This guy doesn't have a clue. He'll probably wind up as a dispatcher, "sure you've got plenty of time to get from El Paso to Seattle. Two days oughta do ya!''
I went through this exact area at night in October 2021, and at the beginning of US 6 it was raining pretty hard, but as the elevation went up the rain turned to snow and eventually it was complete white out conditions and pitch black outside. It was the absolute scariest drive of my life, but I powered through just praying that I wouldn’t accidentally go off the side of a cliff. Eventually a trucker passed me and it was such a relief because I knew their headlights were much brighter than mine and that they likely had a more advanced GPS system, so I just followed right behind the trucker and they got me safely through the storm and I am so grateful for that trucker and that I made it out safely
I absolutely do that myself. Now & then on I-40 from Albuquerque to Grants, NM. Winterly months anyways. On my end, very wise decision to do. (following a semi. so what, even at a slower pace!) 👍🙏
Hey everyone, aren't you all glad there are more RIDING SHOTGUN videos up and running. Just gives us more to watch. Thanks Mike for taking the time to edit and work through these videos to give us something so well done... WELL DONE. 77 balmy degrees here in Thornton this afternoon. Someone just flipped the switch. Enjoy your break. We will see you later. STILL LOOKIN FOR THE CHICKN.!!!
You say you're light, but your following distance on a wet road is 2 seconds or less! Sadly you're not the only one, glad I am retired from 30 years of driving with no accidents.
I saw that too! I try to keep 3 seconds behind anyone in front of me especially in weather like this. People traveling on I-75 going through Dayton, OH have accidents all the time, and "tailgating and traveling too close are the major reasons for the majority of accidents." However, that said, I really enjoy riding shotgun over many of the roads I've traveled at one time or another in my life time. Keep up the good work!
Hello Mike, sitting on this Sunday afternoon watching your video and enjoying the rain and listening to you talk I love your voice it is so calming. Be careful and stay safe.
MMM, I really enjoy riding shotgun with you. Especially today as I love storms. I, also, enjoy your comments, especially when you share driving rules, regs, and experiences. from wherever you're at. Thanks for the ride. Signed, Arm Chair Mike. 🤓
Just glad you're back. Nice weather. No matter how many terrible drivers challange you I notice you retain your professionalism, deliver the load AND entertain us while doing it. Appreciate it.
Hi Mike! I just recently discovered your channel. Really appreciate your Riding Shotgun videos. They're very scenic, educational and entertaining. Thanks for posting and keep safe out on the road.
I live by Mt. Pleasant, Utah on 89, just south of Spanish Fork Canyon...I wanted to tell you a story about the canyon, and a sad thing that happened some years back.. Just as you were coming out of the narrows and hitting the 4 lane, there is a small mountain community to your right, as you head east...Three teenage girls, 2 sisters and a friend, were on the RR tracks close to that community...They were in the middle of both sets of tracks, standing upright..Two trains going in the opposite direction caught them and they were sucked underneath the trains..It was horrible, they had a small memorial there but I have not noticed it lately... Sorry to tell you that, but I am sure you will remember the story the next time you pass by..My wife is from Canon City, Co and we have lived there for years, on the back road to Cripple creek...I enjoy your humor and your attitude towards the govt, I feel the same way..Keep on a Truckin' -Ron Wood (Gold Star father)
@@ronwood7155 Yes I heard that Ron to bad! We still haul some loads there sometimes but nothing like we used to though. Right after the mud slide in 1983 we hauled corn ,milo, and Soybean from a rail siding in Spanish Fork next to the old sugar beet factory. Because of the rail road track got washed out at Thistle. they had no way of getting the grain cars to the feed mill in Moroni. We did that for 2 or 3 years until the feed mill bought there own trucks.
This Highway is so dangerous! My sis was killed in a spring storm just like this on this very Hwy in 2003. Stay safe everyone! Always make sure you have the proper tires!
Drove East and West 4 passes per week to Laredo, starting in Ogden, over this same road. The time lapse just at 4 years. You never know what's ahead. Be safe thanks for great video.
This is the route between the Wasatch front and I-70. This is the way we go to Moab, There is always a lot of truck traffic on this road. A trucker saved me from hitting a deer I did not see in the middle of the night when he slammed on his brakes and sounded his horn as I was passing him. I slammed on my brakes and just avoided the deer as it darted in front of us. Thanks to whoever you were.
Hi Mike, thank you for another awesome ride!! I just hope you don't have any runs taking you through the tornado country. Can't wait to hear how the grandkids like the new house. I hope you all are all settled in now and able to relax and enjoy it. You stay safe out there and give the grandkids extra hugs!
Be careful driving highway 6. But that's cool cuz I live in price utah and you go right through it on highway 6. God Bless You and thanks for trucking goods to us all.
Spanish Fork canyon has a lot of history to it. It's a beautiful drive in the summer. Been through there many times. Research what happened to the town of Thistle. It's amazing what happened to it!
My grandfather was a heavy equipment operator on the crew that worked to excavate the slide and get the river flowing again... he has some pretty neat pictures of what they were doing up there.
Watching from Australia, my day off, and enjoy your trip, it's like I'm the passenger lol, and ready to go to sleep. Keep up the good work and take care.
Hope you are well. If and when I ever travel outside the USA again. I only have two destinations I dream of visiting. One, japan.. essentially because it's the closest thing to a different planet..lol And two, Australia. I've met many Australians. Every one of them were incredibly smart and compassionate people. One in particular changed my outlook on life forever. Met him at a bar the day after my father died. Spoke with me for several hours. Gave me a hug and pulled me out of a bad place. Man had a way of seeing things that I've never experienced. Basically, one man helped me to accept my father's death over a few beers. That is not a thing that occurs often.lol Im sure that australia has its fair share of messed up people, just as we do here...But as far as I'm concerned, you are all great people.
Watching from the Philippines. I have been across those roads a few times years back and do not miss the snow and ice at all.. I love the scenery up through there though.
One thing I hated more than anything about being on the road was when people **just had** to pass me, and then when they see a cop in the median, they slam on their brakes - it's all I could do to keep from running into the back of them.
Really enjoy your videos. I’m a truck driver, I normally stay east of the Mississippi. Every now and then I will get a Texas Load. I was stationed at Fort Carson for a few years. Colorado is absolutely Beautiful. Wishing you Safe Travels. Keep the dirty side down. Lol
Same here. I was unsubscribed when I finally found you again. I was quite surprised. Could UA-cam have done that? Why? Glad to be riding with you again.

Hats of to you driver for passing on a four-wheeler towing some kind of canoes on a solid double-yellow line @ 41:28. I like your controlled aggressiveness. Reminded me on my good-old Interstate and Highway driving days with RV's and motorhomes. Because once I set my cruise control On nothing could slow me down, except cops hiding on some bushes or behind a billboard. Thanks to my hyper sensitive radar detector. I can see them way ahead of time. Safe driving out there and thanks for showing!
Spanish Fork, UT is south of American Fork, UT. Same county but about 20 miles south. Beautiful area, given that it's home to me. (We're from American Fork (AF to us who live there)). Thanks for sharing this drive.

Tell the story about Thistle!

Good video of rain turning to snow with thunder and lightning
Can confirm. If it isn’t raining or snowing. There usually is a mild breeze or aggressive wind storm
