What a fly tier and innovator. Special thanks to the late Al Troth for developing the famous EHC which Randall borrowed his tying techniques and further refined into the deadly Stimulator. I love to watch the old pros, how they manipulate, place tie in the materials on the hook. I just which we had more video of Randall tying flies.
One of my absolute favorites to use when fishing higher in the mountains, although I will switch over to the Amy’s Ant in faster water. I love tying this pattern, and proportionally this fly can be a challenge for a lot of folks. Best advice is buy a 50 pack of cheaper hooks and tie it 50 times before you buy some quality hooks from Umpqua for your final product
Loved watching this. I took tying lessons from Randall when I was 12! Didn’t really know at the time I was learning from a legend!
My all time favorite Dry... learned to tie back in the Dark Ages by following Randall's step by step pics in his Book.
