You don't have to be rich to buy a good watch, you just need to be sensible with money.

The last guy was correct. To begin the purchase history, you need to build a very good relationship with the AD. This is how I got my first Rolex through an AD. previous ones were grey market.

Rolex makes over 1 million watches per year, but they manufacture scarcity to maintain the aura of exclusivity around their brand. It's part of the marketing strategy of these brands to make their product more coveted by limiting who can purchase them. If you want to buy the model you want, they'll tell you it's not available - but that the model available is a starter watch, maybe about 5-10k. Then, over the years, you'll be recommended other watches they have in stock as you build a relationship with them. In truth, the starter watches they sell you are not worth very much at all - and can be purchased for cheaper on the grey market, which is a much better indication of market value. Like the guy in the video said, only a few particular models and styles will hold or increase in value.
To put it another way - Imagine you're Rolex and you want to make a lot of money and build a high-end luxury watch brand. People don't desire something they can have so easily - it's human nature to want things that are hard to obtain or exclusive. So you have to make the cool looking watches rare and limited. But how do you sell these? If you priced them at grey market prices, you might earn a little more for the rare ones, but then nobody would buy the starter watches. Not to mention, if it was always available in-store, it wouldn't be very 'exclusive'. So in order for Rolex to sell you this watch, they make you go the long way around - selling you on shitty watches over and over again, building this 'relationship' with you as the client/buyer and reinforcing that relationship by rewarding you from time-to-time with a deal on a rare model, worth a lot on the resale market, but only at retail pricing! You could spend $1 million to get a phone call that a rare $150k watch is on special at $50k, for example - although some have said they've spent more, and longer.
If you're serious about wanting a rolex - go to a dealer.

It works similarly to the Hermes’, from the starting point to purchase unwanted or less demanded models to build up the relation with the authorised dealers then by the time come the stronger profile of purchases make you to be eligible for being offered certain highly sought after models which has significant benefits from the secondary market

The waitlist is non existent. Each Authorised Dealer has a different rule structure. It’s mainly purchase hustle but also can be about the relationship you create with specific reps, or whether you are likely to flip the watch for profit a few days after purchase which is frowned upon and can often get you blacklisted.

maybe most of the different ethnic Asian parents in au were war refugees, escaped the commies or came to the AU country for far better wages, and living standards is prob why u see plenty of them 🤔

They want to suss out your reactions. If you're unfazed about waiting periods, that's a plus. They won't make you wait as long as they say, just trying to shake out the resellers. It's identical in the women's luxury handbag scene.
They hate resellers with a passion, which is fair enough. Resellers will leverage on making a watch immediately available for sale, so they charge a premium for that.
Overall though, it's all about what you have rather than what qualities you have as a person. JIMO. Interesting at first but then if you don't have anything to back you up, it's pretty empty.
