48 yo going back to school. Got my AA 20 years ago and never got through a math class. I just didn't get it. Where have you been all my life? Your teaching is just the best. Thanks for using this new WWW. technology to teach guys like me. Getting an A in my Intermediate Algebra now. Thank you. And, Shirley Q Liquor is just hilarious, keep her coming.
lol Happy 2 hear you're enjoying your journey through Intermediate Algebra! Thanks 4 watching! With your continued support, we'll keep bringing more free math tutorials 2 our UA-cam channel. Good luck and maintain that A!
Thank you for helping all of us out!!!! you have made so much difference in the lives of so many. You have a gift of teaching where we actually learn the material and not just memorize it. I wish you all the success on this site and I will definitely spread the word to my classmates and anyone else that needs help with math to subscribe. Again, I can not thank you enough!!!!
Hats off to you man, you are honesty the best math channel on UA-cam, you've made math so easy for me thank you so much, never stop helping high schoolers like me
Love the intros, put me in good mood, takes the edge off of learning math. Mr. Witt is wonderful at demonstrating difficult math concepts so that they are easy to understand. He gives you enough examples so that you feel competent at trying them on your own. GREAT SERIES!!!!!
wonder thank you I finally get it am a older woman who decided to go back to school and math has always been a blocking force but you made it so simple to understand, again thank you and God Bless you for you passion to share the Knowledge God has given you. Blessing
Love your tutorials...I've been out of school for over 20 years and after retiring from the Army decided to go back to college. I feel so lost when I'm sitting in my algebra class !!! Your tutorials are amazing and provide me with a better understanding of whatever topic we are covering in class. THANK YOU Mr. Whitt
I like the way you talk as if you were actually talking through the problem with a student. Also, I love the bit of sass you throw in there. I'm definitely going to share this video with a few friends and family members that have a hard time with polynomials. Thanks for the lesson!
Thank God for Fort Bend Tutoring! I have struggled in math my whole life. I am returning to college in my middle-age years and I've really battled with learning and retaining math skills. I have watched these videos over and over in order to keep the material in my mind. Thank you so much for the help.
+Fort Bend Tutoring Today I got my exam back and I earned the highest grade I have ever earned in my life in math! It almost made me cry because I've been at the point of dropping out of school because of feeling so defeated. Thank God! If I couldn't say a word...I'd wave my hand!
Very informative! I love how you get straight to the point with each video, with also highlighting the key terms. Enjoyed the intro speech as well, very cool.
Heaven help me! I struggled with dividing polynomials in my last class and this video helped. The professor I had showed us a similar way, but I think adding the "fillers" is genius! This sure did help as I continue to prepare for my upcoming class. Yet again, THANK YOU!!!!!
Awesome Tina! Great feedback! I love hearing how FBT videos are helping you prepare for your upcoming class. Good luck 2 both of us on the next video you check out! :-)
You're amazing! Your clear explanations made me understand how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide polynomials! Thank you very much, you've got a new subscribe!!! :)
fbt has honestly helped me through my college algebra course. I love the step by step methods of different types of problems. I will continue following because you haven't let me down once!!
I know this is a few years old, but I'm in pre-calculus really struggling, and watching your tutoring videos is helping me out with understanding some of the things I'm struggling with. Prior to watching this particular session, I spent about an hour watching other videos on Long Division with Polynomials and this one has been the easiest for me to grasp and understand. Just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do!
You're a juggernaut when it comes to tutoring! You set the standard for tutoring mathematics very high! You and Dr. Chris Emdin, Phd should work together somehow.....Really....
I watched the video again and thanks for reminding us to change the sign! I will be starting these concepts next week and have gained a much better understanding. Thanks !!!!
Hey thanks so much Mr. Whitt. I was really struggling with algebra and it was like my teacher just couldn't get me on the same page. Since I have been watching your videos my confidence has sky rocketed, and my grades are going up. Thanks so much.......
I am so happy that there is someone out there that is able to get through to me, math is not my strong point and thanks to these videos i am finally understand, hopefully now i can past my exams :D
I really appreciate the help. I have a better understanding now. I made the mistake of taking a Precalculus class for the summer term and it's tough to keep up since the class is condensed to just six weeks. Thank you.
When I see numbers Im afraid to make mistakes but with the help that youve given me through my high school year I learned a lot.Thank you very much Mr. Whitt P.S YOU AND SHIRLEY ARE THE BEST!!!!!
I wish I woudve watched all this last semester! I managed to pass but I barely understood any of it you have helped me fully understand now. Now Im doing Factoring GFC and factoring polynomials and all that Im going to watch all the videos you have and hopefully I can manage to get an A this time around. thanks for all that you do for taking the time to explain! please keep making videos :)
Wow!! Thanks for the tutorial. I learned more from you than my Math Teacher and its kinda funny to learn more from this channel rather than my teacher. Hahahaha😂😂
Awesome video. What are you using to work the problems on ? This would save me alot of paper. Also this is my first time learning how to divide polynomials and using long division and it has helped tremendously. Thanks so much Mr. Whitt!
+Rehan Essar Use the place holders whenever there is a missing term in the expression. For example, if the dividend is 3x^3 -2 then you would write it as 3x^3 + 0x^2 + 0x - 2.
in that case i had a question as followed , 3x - 4 / 6x^3-14x+17x-12 and i wrote the dividend as 6x^3-0x^2+0x-14x+17x-12 and then i was stuck after some steps
Hi Mr. Whitt! LOVE all of your videos! So much better than the way my textbook tries to explain it! Can you explain a little further the point of the place holders please?
Sure! First, the place holders are optional. We suggest you use them to minimize the risk of you making a mistake and improve your accuracy. They help to align any like terms you have when doing this concept.
Im glad i found this page. I think these videos combined with dedication and studying i will finally get over my test anxiety. Any suggestions for test anxiety, because yet on the other hand im so nervous at test time that my mind draws a blank and i forget everything ive drilled in for weeks
+Dionna Marshall I'm glad you found me as well Dionna! Yes, try to get mastery over the process as well as "drilling". When the process becomes 2nd nature, you'll be able 2 perform better under stress.
hi, I have a question, what do you do when you can't match the terms? for instance, if you have 3x^2 in the divisor and 14x^3 in the dividend... thanks
LOL We took quizzes last month And it was about Synthethic division and Long Division I forgot to review Long but Ik Synthethic. You guys really save peoples' Ass Ty #FTB My Saviour
+/- is like it's own sign when dealing with functions, so wouldn't it be bad practise to write minus on top of the plus sign? Would it be bad to do such in an exam?
It's fine in practice and on an exam. There are many times during the process of solving a problem that a sign, symbol or variable "looks" like something else. Any teacher will know you're not using the +/- symbol when solving a problem like this. They'll know you changed the signs of the terms. The +/- is most often used during the square root property which this is clearly not.
Love your videos Mr. Whitt it's a lot more elaborate and can be understood by anyone even a layman but my question is how come you didn't put d missing coefficient in your other divisors
I'm taking pre-cal right now and my teacher showed us one example on how to divide polynomials using long division. He didn't assign us any homework on this topic because he said it's not important, and only showed us on how to divide polynomials using synthetic division, which only works for linear equations or whatever you call it. I feel like I'm missing an important topic on this subject (and so many other topics in his class) because right now I'm learning on how to find asymptotes and some problem requires using long division to find oblique asymptotes etc., by using long division, which I learned from your video btw. Will I be using long division when I get to calculus?
It’s a place holder used to keep your process organized and to increase accuracy. Since the original problem doesn’t have an “x^1” term, I’m showing that visually by putting 0x.
Here's some helpful timestamps 4 this [fbt] dividing polynomials video!
[fbt] Timestamps
00:32 [1] (-28x¹⁴) / (4x³)
01:30 [2] (2x⁴y⁶ - 3x³y⁴ + 5x²y³) / (x²y²)
03:45 [3] (2x³ - 9x² + 11x - 3) / (2x - 3)
07:20 [4] (x³ - 1) ÷ (x - 1)
10:12 [5] (12x⁴ - 6x³ + 8x + 12) ÷ (2x² + 3)
Peace,
Mr. Whitt

hi, I have a question, what do you do when you can't match the terms? for instance, if you have 3x^2 in the divisor and 14x^3 in the dividend...

What do you do if the numbers and the denominator are higher than the numbers in the numerator?
You'll likely end up with a fraction. You can use algebra to solve for the value you need to multiply by.
