  • Working on Acura TL 2003. In this video I am showing steps needed to remove the transmission. Since I did not find one online, thought it would be a good DIY and in demand as well.

    Owning an 03 Acura 3.2TL as a first car is definitely great when feeling the motor going to 65 on the interstate but damn is it plagued with transmission issues. Got the torque converter chillin in my garage waiting for the day I need to replace it, and now I have the knowledge for it thanks to you. I appreciate it

    Just picked one up, has 338,265 on it… hell of a deal from a questionable character with a solid backstory and legit title and bill of sale. Ran and drove home fine, everything works, sunroof opens. The sub crackles a little bit constantly but even in the back it’s not audible with the tunes up even the slightest bit. I’m really fortunate and know I’m going to be torn between flipping it and running it into the ground. In love with it

    My 2nd gen crv made this noise and I had no idea it was a sign of a bad torque converter! Funny enough it went out a few months ago and I replaced the transmission as well for a lower mileage one for a wrecked car, right after I got my garage. I’ll keep this in mind for any other automatic Honda/Acura I will potentially acquire.

    You can remove the CV shaft by undoing your lower balljoint and lower strut. The entire spindle lifts up and swings right out. Also with the brakes I found it easier to simply undo the 2 19mm bolts in the back and slide the whole assembly off the rotor

    I just did this job on my 2001 Acura CL with a transmission from a junked 06 Accord. Took me 2 days getting the transmission out of the Accord then another week swapping it into my CL. I decided to replace my rear main seal and my transmission mounts at the same time (the old mounts were literally falling apart.) I also made sure to clean out the shift solenoid screens which weren’t all that dirty considering how black the fluid was. The most time consuming part was trying to put the transmission in only to find out there was an old dowel pin stuck in the engine block hitting the one in the transmission. So if you’re doing this swap make sure you take out any dowel pins from the engine side. I used a harbor freight transmission jack in conjunction with the jack in the trunk to help line the transmission and engine up. I also busted up my lower ball joints and decided to replace them but I don’t trust them because they have no grease and I didn’t press them in properly so replacing them again is as the top of my to-do list. The only issue I’m seeing with the new transmission is a slight 2-3 shift flare so I’m probably gonna go ahead and drain that DW-1 fluid I put in and use some Red Line D4 in about 100 miles. I’m also probably gonna replace those pressure switches and hopefully that smoothens things out.

    • @mrOnlinePolice
      @mrOnlinePolice  9 місяців тому

      Is it a direct swap?

    • @mrOnlinePolice
      @mrOnlinePolice  9 місяців тому

      I used 40% red line transmission fluid when I drained mine. Loved the way it was shifting smoothly and quickly. But then my transmission blew a hole bunch fluid from who knows where. So, I had to mix it in with autozone fluid as I was in the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma.

    • @zaviermayo272
      @zaviermayo272 9 місяців тому

      @@mrOnlinePolice yes sir its a direct swap, just gotta swap the wiring over. Did this transmission ever do that again and are you sure it was trans fluid? If it was maybe it was the heater/cooler on top of the transmission.

      @@jeffreycicero6685 yes thats the one , make sure use the CL neutral safety switch and cover , transfer to odyssey transmission- the odyssey transmission has longer dip stick so use the CL dip stick as well. On the side note - just cover the throttle cooling hose of the CL if you cant fitting the 1/2 to 5/16 fitting. Since Odyssey uses trans cooler , might as well buy any 3rd party trans cooler with 3/8 hose fittings. Never use 2007 and above v6 honda or Acura trans- coz bell housing does mot match. Good luck!

Now that im reading these comments, im seeing you people are putting transes from accords and pilots. Who can tell me what transes i can put in this car? I dont really want to put the same trans from the same car in, if i can get an upgraded trans from a newer Honda or Acura. Mine went south with only 60k miles of light use on it, so makes no sense to put a junkyard trans of same type with possibly higher mileage.

    I am now having the same problem. I was driving and the rpms rose and the speed was going down. Pulled over and shut the car off. Restarted and drove fine a d then did it again. I got home and have been doing what others have. Checked solenoids and screens . No clog and work. Replaced 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches. Drained and filled trans fluid. Added lucus trans fix. And then it started to make that whining sound. If I rev to 2,500 rpm the torque converter engages. So I ordered torque converter. I hope this works. Did this fix your problem?

      ***** Part of it was trying to make them engage smoother, they miscalculated the amount of clutch wear though. That lead to dirty fluid and clogged solenoids, pressure sensors, etc. and killed the transmissions. I think this is partly due to Honda making their own unique transmission design which doesn't use planetary gears like most others. It's not necessarily a bad idea they just messed up a bit in the execution while trying to make it better.
