I did this back in 2019, your videos were helpful and the only i could find if I had a camera I would’ve made my own but the idiot I hired to help me made the whole process take about two months, I already had everything on-site when he showed up except a transmission jack, he had extra jack stands and his own jack which we used to support the engine with a wooden block underneath and we had prior tied the whole engine to the strut brace with 2 ratchet straps from below wrapped around the engine back up top, loosened them to tilt the engine and slightly lowered the jack and raised it as we needed but we made it work!
Great tutorial! Thanks! My Acura 2002 TL is making the exact same noise and the car does not want to shift and drops into 'false neutral' while moving. I may go ahead and try to doa transmission swap or maybe a rebuild. But after a rebuild, how do you fill up a completely dry transmission with transmission fluid? Dump 3 quarts, turn engine on and continue filling until the required amount is reached?
Jamesee777 If you are going to use a new torque converter, dump a qt of oil into it, and let it soak for a few hours before you install it back onto the transmission. As far as refill......i forgot how i did mine. I think you'd be bettter of checking with acurazine.com
Yes and yes. My torque converter casing was blueish color, indicating it was overheated. So i replaced it. I did take my transmission apart and rebuilt it. I, however, do not have video footage of that. It shifted so good. I used 40% red line transmission oil and 60% OEM. Made shifting very short.
Моя трасмиссия начала буксовать, еле домой доехал:) Вышел код P0721, P0722. Буду снимать и сам пересыповать на моей Acura TL 04 166ml. This is not my first time to rebuilding tranny. I did on my wife's Odyssey 01. So far she is driving without any problems, like a new one) Thx for video!
Yes but you want to find one from an 06-07 Accord because they are much more reliable than the 03-05 ones that have the same issues that the TL transmissions do. There's a few things you have to swap but other than that they are compatible.
+luke sanders i forgot if i removed it or not. I think for removal, you don't have to take the take the CV from the other side. But for installation procedure you do want the passenger CV out for convenience
Great video(s) my friend. I thought it would be harder replacing the transmission while leaving the engine in place, mainly due to lack of space. 2 days to complete the job for a DIY is not bad at all. Thanks for sharing the work you did. I feel more confident now. 👍🏼
GREAT VIDEO MAN THANKS. Do you happen to have the torque specs to put all this stuff back. Just got my rebuilt tranny in and wanted to torque the bolts.
"Hi" I love these videos u have posted! But I seriously need help with a video on u putting new one in! Step by step! I have s 1999 actual tl 3.2 that has gone through 4 transmission already! Now I paid someone to replace another used transmission. He bailed on me and I'm stuck with this challenge! Pls let me know if u have a video of u putting one back in! Ty and keep up the good videos! :)
Nice video. ..so what did you do next after removing the transmission? I have a 2003 tl and like yours it will go about 200ft then nothing unless I turn off and start again then stops after a couple of feet. What did you do and how long did it take you? Also how strong is your air compressor and how strong is your impact gun? Thanks in adavnce
I rebuilt it and installed a new torque converter. It works just as if it was a factory one. For the transmission rebuild i used this video Honda Transmission Repair 1 and for the oil refer to this thread acurazine.com/forums/third-generation-tl-2004-2008-93/optimal-percentage-racing-atf-834299/ I used directions on both and it is working great. it took me about 3 days to complete, but again i had to wait for the parts to arrive. Impact gun is about 750ft/lb that I bought at a Harborfreight about 3 years ago, works great but i don't use often to be honest. I have a huge compressor, 80gal, 11CFM@90PSI but you don't need it to be that big, i just had an awesome deal on this one so i keep it. Loosen your bolt with a breaker bar and you don't need a gun that strong.
I can not see any other way to get at the 17mm bolt up by the firewall. Tomorrow, I take the drive line out of the passenger side of the car. I have tried ever combination trying to get at that bolt and I just can't see any other way. Now, I thing it would have been worth the 600 in labor.
Did replacing the torque converter make the car run better? Cause I got the same problem and don't know if I should just replace it or get a whole transmission?
I rebuilt my transmission and installed a new torque converter. I'm 95% positive that the torque converter was the problem, because I did not find anything major inside the transmission. Yes I replaced the clutch packs, seals and polished the valve body for steel balls to open and close passages freely. Other than that, I did swap electric solenoid, which didn't make a difference. Also I replaced the filter on top of the transmission and inside one as well.
That I do not remember already. But I don't think you can overfill a torque converter. One thing to remember is to place new o rings on the transmission input shaft
My CL S is also with a broken transmission. I am low on budget and very limited on tools. If I ever do work on the car, I can't afford to make any "unnecessary" work. So if I am clear, that noise was from a torque converter? Does that mean I will have to replace the transmission AND the torque converter? I just have a lot of questions and I wasn't sure where to start. Thanks in advance!
So after you take everything off, what you did exactly to the transmission to clarify? you put other transmission, you repair the same one, what was it, whats that rebuild? because i have exact the same problem now and i'm thinking between repair it myself or just throw it to the garbage this car and their blown up transmissions. PD: I already watched that you still have a issues with it a year later.
Thank you for clarify!! I cant find that channel, but i'll do another research of it. Other thing, i saw the last video you upload was year ago with the issue, how is now? did you found how to fix these transmission?what hapened to the car, if you even still have the acura
If you are mechanically inclined, I'd say it is 7 out of 10. Just because front motor mount is somewhat interesting and a number of little connections that need to be addressed
I replaced the torque converter and I also replaced clutch disks inside as well as cleaned and polished valve body passages. Filled with sport oil and it shifted so nice, but I still had disengage problem. Wish I knew the solution at the time, I would have done the repair while it was all apart.
Need to film doing the work, not explaining it after your done. The subtleties of working on a car occur in the act of removing and replacing parts. This video was minimally helpful, but you should have gotten a tripod or a buddy to hold the camera while you worked
Thank you. I really only watched this to see if it was possible to pull the tranny without pulling the motor. Thank you 🙏
Sure. Why are you pulling yours if you don't mind sharing?
Going to be swapping my transmissions on my recently acquired tl I’m glad I’ll be able to leave the engine in the car 😭
I wish you success.

Excellent, thank you so much, this is the same as a 2001 honda accord v6 and is the same as a 2002 honda odyssey so you did me a huge favor, thank you

Did you not have to support the engine from up top???
He put blocks under it

Can the transmission from a 2003/2007 Accord be put into the 2003 Acura TL base model?
Yes but you want to find one from an 06-07 Accord because they are much more reliable than the 03-05 ones that have the same issues that the TL transmissions do. There's a few things you have to swap but other than that they are compatible.
is it a direct swap? Just plug and play or any coding or modifications required?
so I saw you removed one cv axle but I didn t see the second one actually get removed.. I m assuming it was pretty easy?
i forgot to say thank for taking the time to edit and post this video.

So you don't have to drop the engine?
SO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE UPDATE VIDEO?
Car still runs with 235k miles
Well, I am stuck between pt 1 and part 2 need part 3
@@luckjoy69 what are you having a problem with?
My torque converter has went out.

Now putting that shit back together 😭 you think the 2003 type s would have any more difficulties
I think the only difference between base and type S is the engine heads. So this part would be the same
Acura Has a Recall for these Models on the transmission. Check with Acura they may have to do the work free
it has been replaced at 44k miles by a dealer. i checked with them recently. no more recalls pending

Hi at the 5:13 mark in your video you pointed to a part with two pronges that two tubes were connected. what that part called?
i think, but i am not sure, it is secondary power steering pump

topgeartim yes it was a bad torque converter
Online Police Ok, so do you think I can save money by just replacing torque converter?
topgeartim i think you can. shop is gonna charge you more than your car's worth
Ok. And I am also thinking that I get the part, and have the shop put it in so I just pay for the part and labor, nothing extra.
topgeartim shop is gonna charge you same prise for the part probably
How long does it take to drop the transmission just wondering

pain ass i rebuilt it. i could just replace the torque converter and be done, but i decided to rebuild it using a youtube video by Hiram
Thank you for clarify!! I cant find that channel, but i'll do another research of it.

pain ass still have the problem. still driving the car. it has 199.5k miles now
Online Police did it get worse?
pain ass no. in the summer time it stays the same. get worse in the winter. here the video for the rebuild ua-cam.com/video/QfdRD-agb8s/v-deo.html
Does anyone know if this Acura TL transmission will fit a 2004 accord 3.0 v6 motor
So you didnt have to remove the cats or any exhaust components
Not at all
Did you get out another exel from passenger's side?
i honestly forgot. it was long ago. i think i didn't
Ok. Thx, нет проблем

If you are mechanically inclined, I'd say it is 7 out of 10. Just because front motor mount is somewhat interesting and a number of little connections that need to be addressed

how long did it take you to get this done?
I have a 2000 acura tl the D5 light is flashing and the traction control light stays on, pulls off real slow can anybody help?
Otha Crittenden search acurazine.com forum. i think ive come throu that a few months ago and if i am not mistaking it is one of the sensors problem.
Good info
i had 99 acura 300cl wonder how much labor cost to replace other use one?
id do it for 300
Ggg
What does it stand for?

Tom Persons sorry man. theres really barely any subtitles. but ill keep this in mind
