One evening a friend came to my house for dinner. After the meal, she began talking about her adult children and how great her children turned out since she had raised them with religion and had sent them to Catholic schools. When I related to her that my sister and I were never raised with religion, had gone to public schools and that we both were college educated and were fine, productive members of society, she grabbed her sweater, forcing her arms into it with a huff, and asked me to take her home. She said she had spent a lot of money in her endeavor to raise her kids with religion. I told her that I wasn't challenging that, but we parted as friends shortly after this incident. I guess religious people can be rather angry when facts are presented.

There is actually a fair amount of historical, scientific, archaeological, and logical proof for our “magic man in the sky.” First of all, there’s the problem with the Big Bang on its own. The universe allegedly started extremely small (I think on the molecular level), and then a reaction in the atoms basically caused it to expand. But how was that created? If it never began, first of all, that doesn’t make much sense with time, and second, the universe as we know it would likely be much older because the reaction would have likely happened sooner. There had to have been an outside source that wasn’t bound to space and time to create everything. Second, macroevolution doesn’t work. Humans and other animals are irreducibly complex. In the theory, humans evolved over time, but by bit, but there is little to no evidence of the in-between stages and only the beginning and end remain, and, if they evolved bits at a time, they couldn’t have lived because important parts of them were missing. Also, there are passages in the Bible, such as Isaiah 53, that have been proven to be written before what they predicted, yet their prediction happened to the letter. This includes Jesus life and death, the destruction and captivity of Israel by Assyria, king Cyrus letting the Israelites go back to rebuild their city and temple, and the rise and fall of the coming empires (i.e., the Assyrians, Medo-Persians, Greeks, Romans). All of these events are historically proven and there are texts that foretold them before they happened in the Bible. Also, there are eyewitnesses of Jesus’ miracles, death, resurrection, and ascension to heaven. These people couldn’t have been hallucinating because multiple people can’t see the same thing at the same time. The body was clearly missing from the tomb, as the religious leaders tried to cover it up. They couldn’t have stolen it because there were guards at the tomb, stopping anyone from being able to get in and steal Jesus’ body, and moving the stone likely would have attracted the guards, even if they were sleeping. Also, these guards likely had weapons such as swords or spears. The disciples were likely to be arrested, injured, or killed if the guards found them trying to steal the body, or at least chased them off. Thus, Jesus likely rose from the dead. He was God and is. Also, if morality was to be objective, then there would have to be an outside source, as I said, to determine it. Why do you think that we are born with a conscience that convicts us for immoral deeds if morality is subjective and not created by God? If God didn’t exist, then morality would be a social construct, yet we have a natural conscience that convicts us when we do wrong. If God isn’t real, then there isn’t an objective way to quantify morals, so murder would be okay because morals aren’t actually objective. For the same reason, for logic to exist, God would have to exist. Logic, like morality, is a consensus, but can't be objectively true unless there is a God because there is no outside source that created logic to be true. And, since science is founded on the belief that logic is objective, unless there's a God, science itself can't be proven to work because logic is not objective. Also, what about near death experiences? It can’t just be a dream. First of all, it’s consistent across those who have them, even without prior knowledge of this situation. Second, people suddenly learn new things about deceased relatives that they never knew of out of the blue, and what religion do they turn to? Christianity. How intriguing is that. Also, there’s historical and archaeological proof of events such as the parting of the Red Sea (chariots on the bottom and the sand around it melted because of the pillar of fire) and the flood (fish fossils in mountains and multiple ancient religions reporting a worldwide flood). Oh, and did I mention dinosaurs? It turns out, dinosaur fossils actually are found in a position that would have been caused by drowning (a worldwide flood). Also, there are actual ancient human carvings and things that depict dinosaurs on old buildings, almost like they lived with humans. The meteor explanation doesn’t account for all of the other animals that lived at that time or people that are somehow still alive. To look more into this dinosaur explanation, watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/pVTl1YvtPFI/v-deo.htmlsi=BU_NvISU5GUnz5AF. Finally, there’s the fact that the Bible is so consistent despite being written by around 40 different people across thousands of years and multiple continents, and is still as consistent and connected as it is. It points to a God that inspired it.

This is an interesting comment, “when a religion runs its course and becomes mythology”, so it wasn’t mythology to begin with but over time it loses its efficacy for social cohesion?
“man just replaces it with another one”, does this mean the worlds religions could be chapters of the same book? Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, The Baha’i Faith all follow and build on each other like the curriculum in an educational system?
If humanity refuses to move on through the curriculum then it becomes stuck in a lower grade, grows belligerent and becomes entrenched in the dogma and superstition of its own imagining, incapable of hearing the music of the spheres.

There have been many atheistic or religion-hating societies in history. Stalin's rule, Pol Pot's rule, Kim Jong Un's rule, Mao's rule, The rule of French revolution, Hitler's rule etc. I've never heard of a society based on atheism that would've been somehow happier than societies that allow religions.
Of course I personally do not recommend any religion. Instead, I always recommend to seek Lord Jesus. He is not religion but a person. You can have personal contact with Him and no religion can offer anything like that.

It’s heartbreaking to understand the purpose of religion. Made in times where humanity feared death, the unknown, apex predators, and pain of biological reality (physical violence, starvation, disease, hostility, etc…) we should understand consolation, but never allow organized religion to go unnoticed in its power play and exploitation of many cultures, people, and ways of life.

The truth according to a single species' senses at a specific time, doesn't seem like a valid arbiter of what i should be contemplating, in fact there are several human traditions that discount it altogether to pursue a more transcendent truth that they can never know with their senses.
'Knowing' that the earth orbits the sun doesn't seem to be a valid pre-requisite for life, almost the opposite.for a rocket scientist, it would be a critical perspective, but for a blade of grass, the sun orbits overhead once a day, and that proves to be a more valid perspective for the plant. Does everyone need to be a rocket scientist, or some kind of disciple of science, in the modern world?
I went to a Jesuit high school and religion and science were separate courses, in separate classrooms with separate instructors, separate books and separate kinds of tests. We were taught that science and
the Catholic church were "separate magisteriums", and I don't remember it ever occurring to anyone to conflate the two, to apply scientific requirements for evidence to the field of religion, or to poetry or Shakespeare, those of course had contradictions, at least superficially, but we were expected to see through that. Religion and poetry were for spiritual development, science was a tool for a different and more worldly minded realm.
In Buddhism there are the five lights, the five wisdoms (五智); one of them is what we call science, the 'scope of form, properties, and their fundamental laws’ wisdom(法界體性智); it’s a raw material for
philosophical writers who use the modern discoveries of their time to make metaphors, and to inspire
the imagination, speculating on questions that the experiments can’t answer; but it’s not the scientists,
it’s those philosophical or religious writers who are expected to cover the other four wisdoms; it’s rare, but great to see, when the scientist is also the philosophical writer.
The main question for modern science and the one I frequently find under-articulated is how we can apply any lessons or insights from new discoveries in science to our lives and the lives of other creatures
-the fifth wisdom, the wisdom of perfecting the double work of self-welfare and the welfare of others,
insight into effective action, the “complete accomplishment composition” wisdom(成所作智).
My choice of a Buddhist paradigm to answer the question shows that i am not a ‘scientist’; each of us chooses a teacher, and from the abundance of teachers offered by our world, I have a simple principle
of discernment; I look for the teachings that push toward unity, not separation; in a Buddhist humanism I see an inclusiveness and a focus on wholeness, centered on the reality of life; in the worst of science, I see the opposite, the will to power via separation, the ideal of carving up a dead and subjected universe, not organized around life but around a power ethic that can closely be related to death.
Buddhism is a perspective with the purpose of liberation from suffering. One key teaching is that of effective means, using different stories and teachings to guide different people out of suffering. It's spiritual development, not science, so the goal isn't to find truth, the goal is to heal and compose some particular minds so that they find liberation from suffering. The way to examine any spiritual tradition is to suspend, or "bracket" one's current received perspective, and temporarily embrace a different one, and to see if it fits, if it helps, if it leads to liberation.
A metaphor for the concept of effective means is, Buddha sees a forest is on fire and the various kinds of animals are stranded at the shore. He tells the rabbit to swim all the way to the other shore. He tells the elk to walk a third of the way, swim for the middle third, and walk again the last third. Finally he tells the elephant to walk all the way across.
It wouldn't be helpful for the three to argue on which method was correct, or the "truth".
A hundred years ago, before religious community was replaced by scientism, promissory materialism, and nationalism, there was discussion of what comprised "the good life", but with the new isms comes a "truthism" that requires we set aside concerns for our happiness and sacrifice into scientific truth, the "correct" way.
Buddhism is instead concerned with the meaning of the good life.
Seeing the world and the self as empty and unreal is a time honored method for living the good life.
The star on top of the Christmas tree, like the scientific method in the hands of life, is not all there is to the Christmas tree; and like the red nose on Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, it’s kind of weird, as nature and life go, though really useful for everybody in a blizzard on Christmas eve, but that doesn’t make Rudolph the measure of all reindeer; there’s much more to a herd of reindeers’ lives than that red nose, there’s much more to a Christmas tree than that star, and there’s much more to humanity than science, and the content of the world’s religions is much more about that ‘much more’ than the brilliant star of the scientific method; the irrational commitment to reason and scientific method that plagues interpersonal relations across the Christmas tree do not add beauty or importance to the star, on the contrary they degrade its brilliance by revealing a cancerous will to become the only thing there is, the only measure of value, the only thing worth pursuing, an icy wish to frost the whole tree in ‘scientific method’ stars, a dream whose ignorance of the warmth of life is a specter of cold and crystally death. Does everything have to fit into the test tube of cold hard facts and replicable experiments, to be of value, or of interest, or of use to humanity and its friends? Does everyone have to be a scientist to be worth communicating with? Scientism looks like a terrible sacrifice, the need to cast aside so much of the mystical in order to drill down into a replicable method of manipulating so-called reality, and it’s a sacrifice that should be appreciated by others when it provides relief from suffering; what’s rational is to cry tears of joy for the lone scientist who’s given up so much to climb the materialist stairs and make the star shine up there, but then it’s also rational to walk up the other stairs, past reality into the mystical heart of being, and I can’t see the wisdom in warfare between the stairways, when all of us are nourishing the one tree of life.
There's a difference between materialist imagination, and spiritual imagination. Science makes a point of cutting itself off from spiritual imagination, because it is only concerned with what can be seen and proven. Science is a useful tool for surface level facts, but not for the topics that the spiritual imagination takes as its subject matter.
The premise of science is that there is ultimate truth in its perceptions and measurements. Seduced by the materialist prospects of power within the relative truth relevant only in the netherworld of human culture, scientists and rationalists can become blind to the deeper truth of who and what and where we really are, and so while science and reason are useful tools in humanity's toolbox, like a screwdriver, they are not appropriate guides for our lives into meaning and purpose within that much deeper and immeasurable truth.
The spiritual and religious imagination of mankind across the centuries and across the cultures is more like a team of horses and mules than a screwdriver, more resonant with who we really are and better able to guide us on the paths of our lives than the tools in the toolbox we might use for fixing little things at home.
The pragmatic and balanced typically embrace both separate magisteriums, religion and science, just as they use shovels on land and scuba diving equipment in the ocean.
The few outliers who insist on using the scuba diving equipment even when standing in the dirt, like religious zealots ignoring medical technology or ignoring civilized societies' rational restrictions on boundaries, are just over zealously pointing out the existence of an ocean of the numinous to those materialists, who just as over zealously, stay planted in the dirt with their shovels of science, staying away from the coast while insisting there is no ocean and so no need for the scuba diving equipment of prayer and religious practice.
The variety of religions, including scientific materialism as a religion, in the information age is a modern tower of babel. The question isn't what name, what god, who or what did or didn't happen, or what's real and what's fake.. Those are straw men from a simpler age. The modern question is, will we integrate transcendence into our lives. Historically, few have. But some have and some do. It remains a path out of suffering into the bliss of saints..

Intelligence creates yet athiests disregard this, known fact of reality in favor of infinite multiverses where all options exist such as a,universe where space shuttles simply swirl into existence every second from clouds of matter and fly around mindlessly crashing into eachother while fairies with squirt guns ride winged unicorns that shit rainbows in a futile attempt to put out the fires. Buhahaha!!! No it can't simply be a,intelligent creator. Gotta be endless absurd combinations of multiverses...

@@jhonvoyage2564 well you just spewed raw emotions which only is relevant to your psyce alone! Intelligence exists and creates things the laws of physics alone can't. Could the strict laws of physics alone swirl together a space shuttle without intelligence? No. Yet intelligence can manipulate the laws to,create nuclear fision, ice, snow,Gail force winds micro black holes in the large hadron collider and the list is expanding exponentially everyday far beyond what these laws alone can create by themselves / without intelligence. Simply witness intelligence creating quantum computing to create untold unimagined possibilities.

What drives me crazy about these kind of posts is that these Atheists act as thought there was just one religion. Take a religion like Buddhism. Nowhere does Buddhism contradict science.. Or at least it doesn’t contradict science in any meaningful way. And yet these atheist like to put all religions under one roof. Maybe they should expand their understanding of the word religion..

Don't Buddhism presuppose reincarnation? People are reborn, and their past lives have an effect on their present life or something like that? Scientifically, it seems unsupported by facts.

They are all under one roof. They all have "faith" (belief without evidence) whether the belief is in a creator, or what happens after you die. Atheist is a term that is silly. It's like "non ice skaters". What drives me crazy is the fact that the majority of people on this planet believe in mythological nonsense without evidence whilst benefitting from the fruits of science. In my opinion, if you want to think like a stone age goat herder, you should be forced to live like one. If there weren't atheists willing to abandon religion for science, you wouldn't be able to see my comment on the internet right now. Science flies us to the moon - religion flies us into buildings.

Science requires proof (the scientific method), religious belief requires faith. Scientists don't try to prove or disprove God's existence because they know there isn't an experiment that can ever detect God. Religious faith, in contrast, does not depend only on empirical evidence, is not necessarily modified in the face of conflicting evidence, and typically involves supernatural forces or entities. Because they are not a part of nature, supernatural entities cannot be investigated by science. There is your evidence.

Science deals in preponderance of evidence.
      Scientists only tentatively believe.
