The small flowers on the path are white and red (pink) clover, that the bees make "clover blossom honey" from. The planted gold and orange many layered petal flowers are marigolds, the white and pink trumpet shaped flowers are petunias, and the ruffled yellow, orange, red, and pink ground covering succulent leaved flowers are portulaca...They are all from a typical summer garden from the U.S.A. My Dad and Mom, Grand Parents, and Great Grand Parents grew them every year. Did they originate in Japan?!!! Amazing!!!

Here in Seattle, we have a food truck called bean fish, which serves traditional and westernized Taiyaki. I am glad to say that as of a couple of weeks ago, they are still operating. It's seriously one of my favorite things to have made it across the pond.

Thank you for the lovely walk. It's 95F/32C degrees again here (second week of a horrible heatwave) so I am so happy to let you two "walk" for me.
Between the heat and the coronavirus, 😷I am hardly leaving home these days 😟 -- so this "virtual`" stroll in the countryside was a real treat. 😘

It’s Labor Day for the US. A national holiday. (When your video was uploaded)

Lovely video, Shinichi. Thanks for accompanying him, Satochi. Tiny purple flowers looked like they might have been clover. The big ones on the sign you saw were iris, I think. It's been very hot here in SoCal. 117° in Ontario, California. It's gonna cool off a little, but I can't wait for it to be in the 70's all the time...Watch, we'll get snow at ground level this winter...We always get snow on the mountains, which is a beautiful contrast to the palm trees...

We are celebrating Labor Day which honors and recognizes the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development of America. Unfortunately for me I had to work. Other than that it was a beautiful day. The temperature wasn’t so hot, it actually felt comfortable outside today.

What a lovely walk! I love seeing you two out in natural settings. But I'm glad you took a break from filming, Shinichi. It did look hot! Thank you for taking us along.
You asked about the flowers you pointed out. The small purple and pink flowers are clover (or trefoil) from the pea family--they grow wild but are also cultivated as livestock feed or a cover crop. The bright, multi-color flowering ground cover is called portulaca or purslane. The tall purple flowers on the sign are called Japanese Iris in English and are prized in gardens with wetter conditions. (I worked as a horticulturist for the Smithsonian many years ago.😊)

My wife likes red bean soup, which I guess is Anko or Azuki? I prefer the red bean steam bun (Chinese style) & when in Japan all kinds of red bean. Japanese food & cakes are delicious, so too the coffee. But if I'm honest, the difference with Japan is the very nice ambiance of cafes & service. The owners really try hard to make it special for customers (I'm not mean franchise but more independent cafes). Also the Japanese staff are so kind & considerate. I remember seeing a waitress kneeling down to take an old lady's order & be kind to her. It was a great moment for me. Of course I am gaigin, so no one is especially kind to me but they are polite & super efficient ;-)

The flowers at 15:35 is called Red Clover! I'm sure some people would consider them to be weeds but as an herbalist I think they're so precious! They make a delicious tea and have great medicinal properties! Basically a "weed" is any plant that is growing where you don't want it to be, so it's not a weed in my garden bed but would be to someone that didn't plant them there 😁

I worry about this, because there are so many things I want to try while in Japan, but a LOT of anko is used in Japan. It’s in almost all of the sweets I’ve seen thus far. 🤔
Loved the video! I’m drawn to water...so I love when you go to rivers and ponds/lakes. I look forward to your next video.

Don’t worry too much about the anko. I actually didn’t care for it much when I lived in Hawaii. It’s only when I tried the anko here that I started to like it. It took time for me to fully appreciate it. The quality of the beans make all the difference.

I have to say, I was wondering about that as well. There are a lot of things like that. Such as Durian. In the US it’s just awful 🤢. But I had it in the Philippines and it was NOTHING like the durian that we have here. Maybe because they’re never fully ripe? You can’t ship ripe produce (it will spoil while exporting).
