One of the many things I love about this show is how Ted reacts when his folksy sttempts to connect don't land the way he means them to. Like in season 1 with the plastic army men and what they symbolize when he gives them-- but when he tries to give one to Sam, he politely refuses it because he'd rather not have a symbol of American military power. Most people would be hurt and offended, but Ted is just like, "Oh, right, imperialism. Gotcha." and moves on without holding it against Sam. What an amazing way to model being responsive to other people's persepctives.

Even on matters that are much less important, I've been learning to modify my language. When someone offers me a choice of things, I try to say "I don't mind" instead of "I don't care", because what I mean is "one of these things is just as good as the other, thank you for offering" rather than any unfortunate inference that I don't care about the things they're presenting.

Usually the longest serving player gets the captain, or the most influential. Let's disregard Jamie's first stint in the club as he was nothing but an arse. When this team first started looking like a lasso team, Sam was the main man (no idea why Dani Rojas didn't get that much recognition as an ace). And even after Jamie's resurgence, Sam was still one of the leaders in the dressing room. So yea, could have gone to Sam or Jamie, but Sam serve longer in this lasso team, so it's him.

In 2003, ESPN tried its hand at an original, scripted series called Playmakers, about a professional [American] football team. Like Colin's character arc, the team's fullback is gay and is outed by a magazine. Coincidentally, he is also the only member of the team to make the Pro Bowl, to be held in Los Angeles. At the first practice after the outing, he addresses the team by saying, "I guess we all know something about me now. Yeah, I am the best player on this team. Seriously, yes, I'm gay. But I am not going anywhere---except Los Angeles." [Paraphrased from memory] The team accepts him, but the league pressures him to turn down the Pro Bowl invitation.

There's nothing corny about it, just that we're not good enough to appreciate it.

There's a saying that you don't decide familiy and your football club, otherwise crap clubs or fc bayern wouldn't have any fans at all*. So the comparsion between sexuality and your sports team does make sense to us :D.
obviously there's also a healthy dislike of professional sports is also on the spectrum.

From a football perspective I will say I miss the 15/16 EPL season so much. If this lot really were Mary Sues we would have had a different ending.
Besides, 3x08 was our reminder that many of them are kinda dumb blokes at times.
