Won`t bother wasting money on slugs then.Thank you for the info.
I've got the same gun . & mine won't group slugs . Neither will any other sub 12ftlbs rifle that I have ... & I have 40 !
Aren't they meant to work best with a smooth twist barrel i.e slower twist rate.
I don't get the obsession with slugs ... they're shit!
Interesting comparison, well worth a great video. Compared to the JSB pellets, you might as well been shooting a Brown Bess musket with the slugs with 12 ft/lbs.
I love the slugs in my Walnut DRS 700 .22. I use 34gr slug at 1000fps and it is spot on. I think low power guns shoot pellet much better then slugs but i still was surprised by the spread with the slugs in that sub 12 177, did not expect that at all.
they like the speed, they wont get it in a sub 12
Have you tried the slugs without the moderator? I’ve heard some people say that a moderator can affect them especially sub 12.
no diferene but no point wither, I use the moderator to cut noise for hunting requirements so itf they dont work with a mod, they go, the mod stays
Enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing. Take care
Thank you
From what I gather pellets are drag stabilised but slugs are spin stabilised so need to be running much faster.
@@ChrisWilliams-lf4gh I believe that is the general consensus.
My sub 12ftlb .177s don’t shoot slugs well and I’ve tried every make and weight that I could find, but my FAC .22 loves them. 👍🏼🏴
Great review..I was thinking of buying this rifle and been into a couple of shops but both shops didn’t really rate the reliability of Fx rifles ,I’d like something with a higher shot count than the hw 100 ks (keeping.)but maybe more target/ hunting compatible, any thoughts?thanks.
So pellet seem to be suited for this gun than slug. I wonder if the FX has their own magazine and barrel of this DRS series that specify only for slug, it could be a game changer. Like mine Leshy 2, they do have barrel specific for slug, it gives different accuracy result.
wose going to buy this gun but got to buy fx stream line clasic
If I were a squirrel I would much rather be shot at by those slugs. They are simply not made to be shot at low power. I can’t even get slugs to group out of my 40 fpe Dreamline traveling at about 840 fps.
Isn't 25 or 50m too short a range for these airguns?
If you think so, that's your choice. It is a SUB 12 bear mind!
Don't know for sure with the sub12, but you normally have a pellet port and a slug port on the barrel. Might give different results...
Interesting results. I did find in all 3 of my FX guns, 500mm & 700mm barrels (.22sub & .22/.25 FAC) they don't like Zan slugs in general. With the exception of the .25 37grain which is one hole at 50m. Slugs by H&N are the opposite in all my FX, I think the softer H&N lead compound suits these barrels.
Wonder if they make a 500mm .177 heavy slug liner 🧐 would love to see a comparison of the slugs shot out of the superior pellet liner then out of the heavy slug liner!
The furthest left shot at 50m was the zan slug.
Yes I know, that makes it even worse
@@chrisparkin431 ....and even better for the pellets if you exclude it 😃
My FX barrels - sub 12 only liked Mako slugs although Wildman weren’t bad, ZANs terrible all my CZ barrels Sub 12 are good with most slugs, as good as pellets in most cases.
Great video. I've always said slugs are not worth it in sub 12, just not enough fps, with the occasional one that may work. Also ballistic chronos, apps etc can only give aim points based on the data that is used in the chrono/app when designed. The only way to get a true BC is testing, measuring & calculating it for your specific set-up, as everyone is different 😁
Very interesting. I will stick with pellets.
It's horsezs for courses, they suit some people and rifles, just not in this situation
Please can you try the zans in other rifles as I'm getting great results.
thankyou for all the great info at the time,i suffer with bipolar and i find figureing out what a pellet unweighed washed clkeaned does is amazeing, every rifle gun shooter pellet day is different .yure videos inspier me to do more to becomeing a better shot well done.
I don't really say anything about technique on here, that's only done during private tuition with real time feedback from the client asking for, demonstrating and exposing the actual problems and needs
@@chrisparkin431 yes thats fine theres a lot of people who need help for improveing there rifle care shot placement etc.i must admit you dont make explaining things to hard its quiet natural for you.can i ask you 1 question and id like a honest answer.what is the correct range to dispatch a covid rabbit pheasent.i go for 25 yards thats it.this rifle is capeable of more, but whats yure recomendation are is that a question with to many variables ,thankyups my spelling as the bipolar aint good bear with us
Hi Chris I was on with purchasing the Drs but after watching this the results were poor for a stated accurate filled the slugs groups were disgusting, the pellets not much better I can achieve better than this with a rifle costing half of the Drs ,I have Zan slugs and have found them quite accurate, don’t think I will bother with the Drs now
Well you are so much better with another gun so stick with it
Thanks for the video, Chris. I like your methodology and approach.
Think that the slugs would do much better at velocities well beyond what the sub-12 limit would allow. That or a specially rifled barrel.
phusically longer and less `spherical` profiles do work a l;ot better and I still think you need much higher velocities to get them to work in this airgun but it is a sub 12 UK legal rifle
FX regulator with a power curve 🤔😂😂
Waisted lead pellets where designed to get maximum out put from minimum input 2 very small areas of friction they had slugs years ago my granddad told me and that's why the pellet was invented
I agree, slugs are for people who want to use slugs and like tuning, not necessarily for people wanting a simple life and the DRS is definately the simpler solution for those that just want to go shoot and not tinker
Any chance of the fac version
check out the full review of the gun, I did mention I will be getting an FAC version as soon as they are available.
@@chrisparkin431look forward to that.👍
I also did a comparison test with my Air Arms S410 in .22 and this was written up in the Air Gunner. With the gun running at 11.85 with 16grn pellets I tested Wildman pellets at 21grns. These came out at 10.6ft lbs. Next I tried H&N 21grns, they reached 11.38ftlbs. As Bisley magnums sized to .214 jumped from 10ftlbs to 11.86ftlbs, I resized both slugs. The Wildman gave 11.74ftlbs -the H&N, a consistant 11.90ftlbs. As the H&N are the best value but have a shallow HP I tested them on barn pigeons with side shots. They cut a neat hole through the feathers and went straight through, hitting the guiders, so none were retrieved. As the slugs are expensive and no more accurate out of my sub guns, I have now changed to 18grn JTS Dead Centre: nothing to date has matched the accuracy or killing power of these pellets. For rats at ANY range I have discovered 'Gambo Expander Country'. As they expand inside you do not get the 'Smack' of trapped air of the hollows, so are great in echoey barns for multiple rats. Hope this wiil help a few of you out there.
S410 best gun on market at sub 12 had mine many years . Was always a fan on AAdiablo .22. But last few tins just no been right no idea what they have done 😊
👍🏴😁✌️
@@chopperhehehe BSA Meteor mk2 42 paces ,open sights, local tip rat never missed.
I'm shooting 10gn zans out of my Rapid and hw100.
I'm getting excellent groups out to 55 yards.
I'm dialing, and there dialing 5 yards flatter than my usual 10.5 crosman premiers.
What's mad is I've got no zero change .
I would encourage people to get a box to try.
Accuracy is always key
Yes different guns always have different preferences and i actually own an HW 100 so might give them a go, they sent me 1200 to experiment with
Please do!
Harga berapa bang😅
Very nice Drs I like that air gun very simple
That's why I particularly like it
I had the same results last week with zan slugs versus jsb and h&n field trophy. The zans were all over the place.
Bloody great demo, Chris!
Thank you
New favourite channel, awesome stuff mate
Thank you
you need to tune the gun up so the slug is running 11.5+
Or I could review it as supplied and not tamper with it or mislead consumers
@@chrisparkin431 i was only suggesting that when they say slugs designed for sub 12 guns doesnt necessarily mean a gun that is sub 12 with pellets will push a slug out fast enough to get it working. a fair few guns now you have some hammer adjustment and will need adjusting to find a speed that is right for the slug in that gun
Is the DRS using a FX STX Superior Liner?
see video
Heavy liner is better for zans 10g as it has improved my accuracy on my fx impact m3 500mm sub 12, however on the superior liner i had the same result as your testing. Heavy liner has a better ratio with out the choke.
The speed the pellets/slugs are driven at will effect accuracy all my air rifles are running at 10.4ftlb roughly in both calibres which works extremely well for the chosen pellets maybe both of these slugs need driving faster ?
Muzzle energy is legally limited to 12 ft-lbs on this rifle so you cant push them, licensed airguns are a different matter with unrestricted speed/power up to their mechanical limits
Slugs come in to there own in FAC air rifles Sub12 doesn't push them hard enough to see the benefits
The type of barrel seems all important when shooting slugs. The majority of pellet barrels are choked because they give best results with pellets. Unchoked barrels with a greater twist rate are best suited to shooting slugs which is why FX offer different twist and choked or none choked barrels.
Can't get any slugs to shoot with what I could call exceptional accuracy in my two 177 sub 12ftlbs. airguns.
Qys streamlined on the other hand 👍
@stevenlord782
Of my ten air rifles (all sub 12ft) I have a Snowpeak P35 which for some reason shoots slugs with great accuracy, yet it's probably the cheapest of all my PCPs.
Hi, what’s that little rear bag you are using? I’ve been trying to find one like this.
Thanks

@@chrisparkin431
Thanks Chris will do.
You should try some long range shooting perhaps with an Inpact M3.
With a bit of tuning, my impact is doing surprisingly good groups with H&N 30g slugs @ 200yds (low wind conditions)
Even after owning it for a few years now it still surprises me.

Edit
Found it!

Thanks.
@@iantcroft sadly it doesn't interest me
@@chrisparkin431
Have you tried though obviously with the FAC version?
I suppose you must have done to know it wasn’t for you!
I find some of the close range stuff a little boring but I suppose my main interest is making the rifle shoot as well as it can and when it shoots well it’s just a single hole at closer ranges.
It’s all interesting stuff really!
Just purchased that bag!
@@iantcroft i dont own one anyway. I have other guns if i need to shoot
In my opinion, the only thing you managed to prove in this video is your lack of knowledge about air rifles. It's not possible that you don't know that to shoot with slugs you would have to change the barrel liner to 1.16 twist???? Not to mention that the plenum would have to be bigger too. The pellet shit will never be better than slug.
Looks like you dont watch the videos (plural) or follow the channel. this was a specific scenario to see if slugs would work without making other alterations
If you're an experienced airgunner, you're embarrassing yourself by sounding like a newbie who has just watched a few videos and read a few forum posts, and now acts like a know-it-all. For instance, 99% of all airguns with a 1:16 - 1:17 TR barrel can't shoot slugs worth anything. Your silly comment about a "bigger plenum" - assuming you're referring to its ability to produce more power - has also long been debunked. There's a lot more to it than that.
