Hello, I have a question!
Let's say I choose raag bilaval.
Aroh : Sa, Re Ga, Ma Pa, Dha, Nee, Saˆˆ
Avroh : Saˆˆ Nee Dha, Pa, Ma Ga, Re Sa
If I want to make a composition, can I mix those keys any way I want and it will still be raag bilaval?
Can you please make a video on rules of raagas? How they are formed? What can or can't you do? Everything that you can pleaseeee!!! :)
A raga is denoted not by its notes but the chalana. The way these notes interact with each other which is quite different in each raga. If u lose emphasis on a note or skip another.. U will lose the feel of a particular raga. That's the basic difference between scales and ragas
Not necessarily, its not just any combinations that define a Raga. Every Raga has characteristic Sancharas/Prayogas(Phrases).
Skipping a note or giving a certain zig-zag Prayoga may lead to a different Raga. This is how we have Vakra and Varjya Ragas.
Eg:
Kambhoji has Arohanam Avarohanam: SRGMPDS SNDPMGRS
Clearly Nishadham is missing in Arohanam. So in all Arohana phrases Nishadham cannot be there. If its there the Raga becomes Harikambhoji.
Another case is Shankarabharanam which is a Sampurna Raga having Arohanam Avarohanam as SRGMPDNS SNDPMGRS. If you take Kathanakuthuhalam it is simply SRMDNGPS SNDPMGRS. As seen Avarohanam is same but because of that MDNGPS zig-zag jump, the Raga itself changes. Always refer to a certain Raga's characteristic Prayogas and keep listening to many compositions and Alapanas to know the common permitted Sancharas.
