I was a member of the CAF employed in 8Wing Trenton directly involved with flight logistics when the PM flew. To say “at no cost to the public” is a joke. He has the most security of any PM in the past. The plane he travels on has a very large air crew to accommodate not only him, his family, security and accommodation for these people. Yes, our PM needs his staff but DON’T insult Canadians by saying at no cost!

Last night I saw a report that said he didn't have an expense to tax payers but his travel group have to get extra accommodations and overall the tax payer expenses were getting close to $250,000

No one is denying that even Trudeau and family can take a family vacation. However, in a time where some restraint in spending could be seen as a positive step for the PM and his reputation, he decided with the blessing of his 'ethics 'police' that spending about $225,000. CDN on jet fuel - return trip to and from Jamaica - would be a wise decision. A pleasant family trip to Bermuda or, God forbid...Florida, using our highly rated Air Canada or WestJet airlines would have fit the bill very nicely. But no, he had use the government plane + security + staff + 135,000 litres of jet fuel a..n..d staying gratis with a 'family friend' at a 'cost saving' of $9,300 per night resort in the Caribbean. Let's just say that as an example of a fair-minded, considerate and budget conscious person - he is not. He would be more likely choose to give all of his detractors the famous Trudeau finger wave from his window lounge seat on RCAF Airbus 02. Very sad. JV.

The bit that nobody remembers is how many of these trips he takes a year. He's probably spending close to more tax dollars than he earns on holidays by the time all the real expenses are paid.

These 3 reporters should pay for PM Trudeau and his families holiday if they think it is so acceptable. When Canadians go on holidays they pay for it themselves and don´t put it on the tax payers. We have to always remember that canadian news media is not objective as they stand to lose government subsidies if trudeau loses an election. It's impossible to be objective when covering the people signing your cheques, and this is another example of the media protecting themselves instead of doing their job.

As a Canadian, I want to continue hearing about Trudeau's trips. He lives the big life at our expense and he takes way more holidays than most Canadians do, even if they are retired. He has broken ethics' rules on a number of occasions, so we have no choice but to follow everything he does because he clearly cannot be trusted. And no, he hasn't earned the holidays. If anything, Canadians need a holiday from him.

Sadly the problem is since Canada's founding, the tax payers have always been paying for the vacations of the Prime Ministers. There were the pieces of the filing of family expenses for reimbursement by John A McDonald still housed in museum in Kingston.
Nor is this a convention invented by Canada. Throughout the Western World, tax payers always pay for their leaders' vacations. From the UK to France, to the USA to Australia - you name it - there isn't a single Western democracy that doesn't have the policy whereby publicly funded vacation is a perk a country's top leaders are entitled to.
If you emigrate to North Korea you might be able to avoid such nuisance - there aren't "tax payers" in North Korea, only slaves and serfs. If you stay in the Western World, however, that's just a frustration you have to put up with. I like it no more than you do. But things are what they are and nobody can do anything to change it.

We pay for a holiday cottage for our PM's to use. The problem for me is that Trudeau seems to need exotic holidays and breaks at expensive locations. He should give the suffering taxpayers a break and try more modest vacations. Trudeau routinely spends hundreds of thousands, endless hours in the air, etc. We need to get back to the days when our leaders went on vacations in our own country, just as earlier PMs usually did.

Most Canadians can't even take a real vacation... mine consists of camping, fishing, relaxing at home and the odd trip to Southern Ontario to see family (usually on their deathbed)... it's been 3 years since I've been able to take the family out on a true vacation, and we live very modestly
