When I was young, my parents had a Lawrence Welk club of about 6 couples. Every Saturday Night they would gather at one of their houses, have a big pot luck dinner--and then everything stopped for one hour as they all watched the show. During the commercials they would share Welk trivia. They are all gone now, but those were happy times. I am glad I was able to witness them.
I remember as a kid every Sunday the family would go to my grandparents house across the street and we would watch Lawrence Welk. This was the typical type of different musical acts he would show. I miss those Sunday nights with all the family, great music and good times, Castle and Floren were my favorite. 😃👍
Go to Walt Disney World every week, and at Magic Kingdom, Caseys Corner is the Piano players and they take requests I always ask for Lawrence Welk they know him well. About 2 months ago i requested Jo Anne Castle and they played her it was wonderful.
Great vid. Thanks for posting. Boots Randolph once said that every time he played "Yackety Sax" it almost killed him. I would imagine that this tuba player would almost feel the same way after so long, especially playing that fast.
@@Rbigraff - She really was. Floren was a great musician. But Jo Ann was just in a class by herself. At one point, Floren went to Mr. Welk and said... "You need to decide who's going to be the accordion player on this show." and from that point he featured Castle mostly on piano.
lyrics: Just because you think you're so pretty, just because you think you're so hot, just because you think you got something nobody else has got. ...Well, I'm telling you, honey, 'I'm through with you!', just because, just because!
Because they can’t. Find me a bass player who can play string bass, electric bass, and tuba equally well. Find me guitar players who can also play banjo or electric mandolin or steel guitar. Find me woodwind players who can double on flute or clarinet without treating it like another saxophone. Find me accordion players who can play that accurately that fast. Find me a tenor singer who can sing as majestically as Joe Feeny. Find me a tap dancer like Arthur Duncan. Find me a guy who can sing, dance, tap, and play percussion like Jack Imel did. People just can’t do all that shit anymore. That’s what it is.
The tuba has Holton-style valve caps but could also be a Lyon & Healy "Own Make", which was made in Chicago, IL, as was the Holton Model 98 Mammoth Bass in BBb (1917-1918). I suspect there was some interaction between the two companies, as L&H sold their equipment to Holton in 1928. If I understand it correctly, "Mammoth" was used for large BBb bases, while "Monster" designated large Eb basses.
Just Because (lyrics) Just because you think you're so pretty, Just because you think you're so hot, Just because you think you've got something, That nobody else has got, You cause me to spend all my money, You laugh and call me old Santy Claus, Well I'm telling you baby I'm through with you, Just because, Just be-cause!
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT TUBA WAS POLISHED?!! ...but then, I suppose with all those bright TV studio lights- a shiny brass instrument would be a bad idea(?)
That tuba is either silver or nickel. Once you start polishing it. It will turn black in days. I have a silver bari sax and I spoke with a jeweler about polishing it, his recommendation was to leave it alone, BTW my sax is a copy write 1917, American made.
Look at Jo Ann Castle's face.. you can see the start of her alcoholism is just beginning to take it's toll... she really had to pile on the makeup to try and hide it, but, didn't really work too well. It's a shame she let booze run her life for so long.. hope she's booze-free at this point in her life.
Polka is way better than any music we hear on radios.

Sunday night.
If this type of music was still being made & listen to, the world as we know it today would not be in such a sad state!
Amen to that! ❤
Yes, @hammertownpavao, thanks for your comment. Lively, fun music is always a mood changer... for the better.
Grew up on polka music
This is the music I grew up with!!! When I was little, my day would play this song on his accordian. Really brings back memories.
52 years later. The polka is still good. Some of us young folk don't like the rap music. Prefer this any day of the week
You have to hand it to Lawrence Welk he sure enjoyed his work. And brought so much to so many.

You can certainly tell that they are enjoying themselves-!!
I saw Myron Floren in person, many years ago- and he was a VERY charming person!
🤠ump paa paah! All country music 🎶 should have tubas.😊
I get on good moods when watching this. People seem to enjoying playing genuine instruments, not computer dead tunes.
Couldn't have said it better ! Love it !
Agreed!
Computer dead?
Very nice musicall
Joann and Myron, I missed this one!

Joanne is so talented. Great on piano or accordion. Can sing as well. She was superb in skits they did on the show.
Super talents!
YOU BETCHER LIFESAVERS-!!!
Actually Richard Maloof on the Tuba makes this song. He did great!
Wunnerful, wunnerful!
Irresistible...
Joanne Castle is doing all the work.
She was a much better player than Myron.
Don’t discount the tuba player, he kept the rythem going

I wish I could watch this in 3rd grade in 2013-2014
Myron was such a good sport.😁
Nice Holton tuba he's got there. My 6/4 tuba was based off that model he's using.
CorvetteCoonass Can you triple tongue on a tuba ? Just wondering ?
...SOUNDS LIKE YOU REALLY BLEW IT!!!
(SNUCKER-SNUCKER-SNUCKER-SNUCKER-SNUCKER-SNUCKER!!)
Глядя на этих мастеров, хочется улыбаться и поднимается настроение. Спасибо.
Эх ! Хорошо то как ! Спасибо !

JoAnn could go toe to toe with Myron!
Why they don't make good music like that any more?
Blame the pollution of the airwaves by those who are currently rioting and looting with their vulgar hip-hop.

I wish i could make a accordion piano 2013 video in June 2013
This song is very similar to the gospel song "(There's going to be a) Meeting In The Air".
...if you say so-!!!
Amen!

Now I know where Banda Sinaloense comes from.
Very nice. There's also a fun version by Weird Al Yankovic and Frank Yankovic.
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THAT TUBA WAS POLISHED?!!

True! One can't have that type of reflection in TV, can we?
