Where these licensed games always made on the cheap? I'd say that Western developers had a much better grasp of the NES, but when you look at western IP's developed by Japanese studios, they're often of vastly superior quality.
It's a shame there was no Marvel Comics equlivilant for the NES Mini in the West. I'd say DC too, but it was pretty much just Batman and Superman on the NES.
That would have been an awesome product...and even though so many of those games are pretty bad, they're still much better than a majority of the titles in this Jump Famicom Mini.
I wanted to buy this for the cool box and the fact it's gold but after watching the titles maybe u am far better of buying some moor games i will play more on my switch. It would cost me $218 AUD to import it which is just s little on the expensive side for the games you get. I could buy 4 or 5 good physical editions on the switch. I still really want it in a way though. You never know I might get it

I collect the Japanese minis. There are a few games here that really interest me and look superb. Unfortunately 20 untranslated games does not seem paying $80 or more. I'm still tempted considering I really like Famicom games. If this would have had more titles it would be a no-brainer.

OMG I wan that just for the Captain Tsubasa game! I used to play it in Cuba in one of those 100 in one fake consoles, in Japanese too. The game plays like a Football Strategy Real Time RPG.
A fun little system, but yeah, probably not gonna pick this up. I might get Magical Taruruuto-kun and its sequel for the actual Famicom, those look fun.
I feel Dragon Quest was included not just for it having its own manga. One of the biggest reasons why Dragon Quest became such a phenomenon was because it was featured in Shonen Jump with Toriyama doing the character designs. They hyped the fuck out of it...
Anton Nielsen I believe Dragon Quest was also included because Jump had 1 or 2 DQ manga series serialized in it. Dai no Daibouken (Dai's Great Adventure) and Abel Densetsu (The Legend of Abel) I believe.

Mine just arrived yesterday and was able to get it for a great deal less than average. Very happy to have this iconic piece of gaming and manga/anime history in my personal collection.
That's definitely something collectors will be fighting over in the future. It's got pretty much all the niche qualities a gaming collectable needs. Keep it safe so you can sell it to buy a house one day maybe. Just trying to imagine how poor a Marvel based NES classic would be for outside Japan. There's probably enough games for one but it would be a bit dire. To match the quality of games they could give it a limited edition cigarette stained yellow look.
For like 95% of the people who picked up the Famicom Mini, I'd say the same. Good for people who grew up reading Weekly Shonen Jump and playing these games back when they were new.

That would have been better, as the current SNES mini cannot be hacked to play Dragon Ball games. That said I picked this one up as well as I already picked up the Super Famicom mini.
I really like the card based Dragon Ball Z games for the Famicom, and the one for the Super Famicom: "Super Saiyan Densetsu" is the best Dragon Ball Z game to date, anyone can fight me on this.

Ya know. Seeing and hearing that dragon quest game made me think of that horror jrpg game, "Nanashi No Game" on the DS which I'm assuming is what that game is loosely based on. I know Halloween is a few months away and a DS capture card is a bit cumbersome, but would you ever consider a Halloween special on that? Yeah, I know its asking a lot but I'd be great material!
I do like the gold colored case, but IDK how badly I want one of those.... would be cool to try Dragon Quest without having to worry about the passwords (just drop a savestate and pick it up again later) but surely a lot of those are better if you're fluent in Japanese (which I'm not... not really) but that was a great look at the console and the included games!

They didn't include Hokuto no Ken 2 (released in America as just "Fist of the North Star" with some minor cuts)? That one was much better than the first game. (Still not a great game, but better than a lot of the stuff that was included.)
Jeff Jacobson The game was originally going to be named "Ken the Great Bear Fist", the name that Toei gave almost all non-Japanese releases of FOTNS, but then Viz (who was a small division of Mirage Comics at the time) jumped in and told Electro Brain who was the publisher of the game in the US, to change the name of the game to the name of their localized version of the manga that we all know now as Fist of the North Star. Despite the game being based on the second half of the series, the box art and cart art shows Kenshiro and Toki fighting.
I wish they'd release this in the USA and UK...but of course that'll NEVER happen... cause they'd have to do a little work and translate a couple games :(

I want Nintendo to Released a Capcom or Konami Edition of the Mini NES or/& SNES.
If you like Konami go for the PC-ENGINE mini. Totally worth it. It's loaded with other 3rd party titles also unlike other minis.
This came out in July because I was in Japan during June and couldn't find it so I bought the standard famicom mini.
I didn't expect Shonen Jump to be so thick. I was expecting the typical magazine thickness. :o

All Japanese here, but of course you could hack the system and put any ROMs you'd like on it, including English versions for some of the games here.
