  • The NES Mini & SNES Mini Classic Editions were awesome... but they were made for a simple reason... a reason I think Nintendo probably won't have again for a long time. So let's look at a Japanese exclusive bundle...

Nintendo is going to do an N64 mini the very moment the technology becomes cheap enough to nickel & dime, with Good performance, whilst still charging a PREMIUM price. The tech just isn't there yet.

@@jug-a-nutstherandomizertom2598 The thing is, Nintendo NEVER sells hardware at a loss. They always like to be able to get their hands on affordable, cheap tech, that works well and they can charge a premium for with $profit$ for every unit sold. The El-cheapo Chinese SoC's just hav'nt reached that level of power yet. But once they do, Nintendo will be all for the N64 mini.

Anyway with that being said that was a huge fan of these when they came out and I wish I could keep the trend going but I guess all good things come to an end sooner or later but why I didn't know it's been close to 10 years already since he sings have been out. I remember getting the NES Classic one first and loving it. There was a shortage but for whatever reason I was able to get one through Amazon. The SNES definitely had a shortage but I slept outside to get one at Best Buy and as I drove home in the morning I stopped by a GameStop to see if I could get one more for my buddy. I couldn't even get in the door cause the line for then SNES one went all around the building. The store likely only had so many obviously but I still go in line and waited. When I made it in I was like the 14th person in line and the GameStop staff said... "ok, people, everyone behind the guy in the blue shirt we're out of them so no more after him" the guy was like 10th in line. Everyone then left sad except me. I waited and then when I finally go upfront I asked for the SNES one and they said they may have a couple left and I was able to get one. Lol. I gave it to my buddy and he loved it. It was hard to get one for weeks after that but it was cool my buddy and I had one. 👍

The thing I don't get about these mini consoles is these companies went through the trouble to design and manufacture them. Why not re-release them from time to time? Like Konami didn't make enough of the Turbo for sure. They could easily re-release them every couple of years and sell out.

If Nintendo puts out a mini, they'll lose money. Why? It's because retro consoles are the elephant in the room now. Many people have been buying retro consoles that has all of the games (especially all of the Nintendo games) that one would ever want to play. Plus, retro consoles have all or nearly all of the games on other consoles including Sega Genesis, TurboGraphic, PlayStation 1, etc. all on ONE device! Thus, why would one want to buy just a Nintendo Mini when there are GREAT emulation consoles that have numbers like 60,000 plus games that WORK??? I wouldn't buy one. Thus, Nintendo would have to compete with those and so would Sega and other companies who would put out a mini system in 2024. It would be too little too late with those out. Plus, those consoles come from a country like China where it's legal to sell pirated stuff. I used to live there and one could buy a ton of pirated stuff that works damn good!

Nintendo needs to do something, I don't even want to see a streaming service at this point. If you guys are good buying things you never take ownership of then have at it, I personally would like them to start manufacturing games again. They would sell, just make like a 2nd edition so you don't hurt any of the original collectors value. T

Fundamentally, people need to understand that Nintendo thinks of itself as a toy company. Everything it does follows the logic of a toy company - artificial scarcity, disposable platforms (*NO* contiguous online store/online account system? not embracing the Wii as a all-in-one living room solution?), discontinued and limited edition runs. Sony fundamentally thinks of itself as a consumer electronics company that needs hit products to drive demand for its goods. Microsoft fundamentally thinks of themselves as a software company, with games as just a genre of software.

It's interesting how people always accuse Nintendo of artificial scarcity but not the other companies when it happens to them for things. But the one thing I've learned as I've gotten older, is manufacturing is insane, there are so many factors in moving parts that the be upset because something is in high demand can't be replaced instantly just shows how entitled we are as consumers.
