So thorough, so well made and presented. This video, for me, is actually better than owning just the plastic. Every game should come with a video presentation like this. Whether it's Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord for the SEGA Master System, or Toe Jam and Earl, I know you'd cover every inch of the game. Amazing and a great length.
+stringanime Thanks man, it really means a lot to me, especially coming from such a creative/talented person as yourself. And don't please don't take that as forced flattery, I really mean it! Looking forward to your next project!
17:20 From what I read though, Valkyrie doesn't use her ship here, instead actually walking on the rainbow to the other side. Project x Zone even made jokes to this (and as long as I remember, no mentions to a ship was made). Anyway, been a big fan of this character so seeing more informative video for a game I've had bit difficulty going through is always appreciated.
+KonaKonaKaabisteru Thanks for watching! Yeah, as far as the rainbow thing, in the remake, Valkyrie does indeed walk across it to get to the frozen continent, and has a battle with an airship and pirates on the way (I think they made an appearance in the SFC Sandra spin-off game as well). But it's odd that in this Famicom game, you need to have the ship in order to trigger the rainbow, and it disappears as soon as you cross. So who knows what's going on, ha ha. XD I haven't played the PxZ games, but they sound like a lot of fun!
I knew Valkyrie was a thing - I've been eye balling the playstation remake for awhile. But now I really want to try the original. Maybe after Star Tropics I'll give it a serious attempt.
The remake is a great game, and my desire to do a video on that is what spawned this video and the others to come. It's like the perfect marriage between the Famicom and arcade sequel. :)
Fantastic video. I think I prefer this style overall. Really well edited and lots of details on the mechanics and aesthetics of the game really give me something to sink my teeth into. Whichever format you go with, it is much appreciated.
+Nathan Thach Thanks very much--I haven't been actively trying to go more detailed in my recent videos, I just find I have more I want to say/cover with each episode. I'm glad you liked this video, despite how long-winded it was!
Do you folks prefer long, (overly) detailed videos like this one, or the short but sweet ones like Nekketsu Oyako? Let me know! Also, this episode was fairly devoid of my awful humor. Thoughts?
+RengaBeats Thanks a lot--it was fun to edit that section, more than doing gameplay and stuff! I had to scan and edit a bunch of pictures from a Valkyrie series artbook just for that section--I'm glad you felt it worked! And I love 80s-ish adventurous anime series'. Record of Lodoss War is a personal favorite of mine. :)
+Larry Bundy Jr I must admit, in passing I've heard of "Chase the Express" before, but knew nothing about it. Doing a search or two only came up with results to a PS1 game...so, ha ha, I'm a bit confused to what you're talking about! XD
+Larry Bundy Jr Please let me know what it is when you do--and Game Center CX, eh? I am shamefully not in on the GCCX scene, despite having been around it for years in game shops living in Japan and such!
Now that Namco games are on NSO (Mappy-Land and Dig-Dug 2) hope we get this game too, seeing as Arcade Archives/Hamster recently released the arcade sequel to Valkyrie.
That shot of the Valkyrie character with the Japanese flag behind her was lovely. I really need to get talented at photoshopping. Hey, I remember that famicom cartridge :) Seeing Link's head on Valkyrie was pretty creepy, but I wouldn't expect anything less from this channel! Nice touch with the broken record bit. Did you put that watch on just for the camera? haha Gameplay reminds me a lot of Hydelide or Faria on NES. Just much better, especially Hydelide's case. Yuck, that game. I rented it a couple times from Diamond Head video. Looks like players could get overwhelmed quickly with the combat. Those items just pop into existence. Yup, wow you got clobbered instantly almost. Nice use of music in the video so far. I love the soundtrack for Dragon Spirit. Your audio levels sound fine to me. "Using her faithful ship to make the journey." You mean, using her imagination? Cause I don't see a ship at all. These old NES action RPGs are so good. Brings back many memories of taking the time exploring and figuring out how to advance further. Meanwhile, racking up tons of gold and exp! Valkyrie does look tricky with some obscure parts. Definitely an AVGN bitchfest. So you finally finished the Valkyrie vidoe. Congratulations indeed. oh look, Mappy Kids in the video at the end. hehe... Well, here's to more successful Hapa videos on this series! Excellent start so far. :D And I approve of long winded, well explained videos.
+Retro Island Gaming Thanks for the strange "live commenting" style of message here. It was a little discombobulated like a David Lynch film, but I can appreciate that. Anyway, you're always welcome to join Jimmy's Photoshop Camp anytime. I've offered multiple times, but you seem to be preoccupied with creating the best natto and raw egg vegan smoothie.
An excellent video, as always. So, finally you review this clasical character. I remember the first time i see her was in "Namco vs Capcom", and being mystified as to who she was, especially as i loved her design. Now, let tell you that hearing you say that this is a 3 part video make me really happy! Thank you! By the way, happy 2016 and as always, a pleasure to see you video!
+hesstarr2 Thanks you, happy new year as well, let's make it a good one. Well, as good as it can be, anyway! :) If you're happy about this video, I'm twice as happy! Hope the other videos will do the same!
I'm so glad I found your channel today. Finally found a very good channel that is fully dedicates to imports. A small dream comes true. Your editing skills are superb. Combined with your very good narrative, it makes the videos so enjoyable. I think the first game is pretty "boring", in my opinion. Thank god the arcade remake is so good. I really like her character design.
Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you like what you saw! I used to think this game sucked back in the day, but it grew on me very recently. I especially like the remake, which is the only reason I made this video, to be honest...I wanted to cover the remake! I'm far from the only game in town when it comes to covering Japanese games, so I'd recommend a few other channels. Of course there's Kid Shoryuken, who does more than just reviews. Game Dave is kind of half/half, and currently only covers Famicom games import-wise, but will be expanding into other consoles eventually. And he hasn't uploaded anything yet, but Karcamo Gaming will soon be focusing mostly on imports...a certain bowl-topped import reviewer guy may be appearing in his first review, too. ;)
Nice, I remember fighting against the Valkyrie in the bonus challenge tower in Namco's Tales of Eternia, good times. I prefer long and detailed videos, but that doesn't mean I didn't like the shorter ones ;)
+bartoman2 Thanks a lot! Yeah, it seems like the Tales series in particular has had a really close connection to Valkyrie, or at least a penchant for Valkyrie cameos. ;)
I came across this channel when looking up info about a different game, and I am very glad I did. This was extremely informative as I've always been curious about Valkyrie when I saw her in Project X Zone 1 and 2. Love this. I am now subbed and will catch up on your videos!
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) They really are good and help introduce us to new characters we wouldn't know about or know very little about. I just hope their prequel, Namco X Capcom, gets like an HD rerelease or something.
Kagekiyo...He's the one that looks like a Kabuki Samurai paired up with the little boy I think is called Tarosuke? I've never been able to play it (PS2 Emulation is too complicated) but I did watch an LP a few years back. I do remember most of the characters at least.
Watching this review after all this time (read: three or so years) makes me want a remake of this game in the style of Breath of the Wild. It would be a perfect fit.
Glad this came out, claims be damned! As far as length of videos, i always say it depends on the topic. If the game you choose has much to discuss (like Valkryie) then 20 minutes is perfect, but if it's a game that is a quick fun romp, keep it short. either way, more IGFTW is always a great thing!
I feel like that english was pretty complicated for Japanese gamers to fully understand at the end. Also, keep up these long videos! I have been in a real "long, in depth youtube game review" kind of mood lately.
+Avalanche Reviews Funny you mention that, since the guidebook I have felt the need to translate the ending message because of that reasoning. It's funny that in the credits, some guy is credited as an English consultant or something like that. I honestly don't know why the ending is in English...I thought maybe it was for space constraints, but there are Japanese characters present in the game...I guess it was just cool or novel at the time.
Great, detailed video! Great way to come back! Well, well worth the wait. Also, huge bonus points for the Quest of Ki / Kai no Bouken music at the beginning! :) I would love the detail, you bring more details to your videos that are hugely helpful to people like me who cannot read Japanese (at least for right now). So keep the details please.
+BJ Wanlund Huge bonus points for RECOGNIZING the Quest of Ki music! ;) I used a few tracks from that game as well as the Tower of Druaga for this video...only seemed fitting to do so, plus there are only three or so music tracks in Adventure of Valkyrie total, so I had no choice really. I'll stick with doing detailed videos, I think. They take more time to make, but if they're more helpful to people who watch them and decide to play the games for themselves, then it's totally worth it. :)
I prefer videos to be long, packed with as much information possible. Of course i understand with some titles that's not possible but if you can then sure make them long. :D
+Charmchar Thanks for your feedback! I feel like my videos are becoming longer and longer anyway, without any sort of conscious effort to make them that way. ;)
Ah, great timing. I was just looking at this game on eBay. Seems legit. I love that you've got the vintage strategy guide to go along with the game. :-)
Yeah, we might have our own Marvel Land soon because of the Disney takeover, huh? Funny enough, the game Marvel Land from Namco has nothing to do with Valkyrie, but takes place in fantasy theme parks... To be honest, a translation patch for this game is wholly unnecessary...there is barely a sentence worth of text to translate in the entire game! XD
Amazing job. I first saw this character while playing Project X Zone and I was hoping to find a video exactly like yours about the game. Amazing job. Keep it up! Cheers from Brazil.
+Valmir Silvino Thanks very much, and I'm glad you were able to learn more about Valkyrie from this video! I was surprised at the odd lack of coverage on her and the games she stars in. I hope you'll like the next video in this three-part series as well. Cheers from Japan. :)
Thanks for this - I know the character mostly from Namco X Capcom and Project X Zone, and this really puts some of her abilities, especially the menu ones, into perspective.
Thanks for watching, glad it gave you a bit more of an understanding of the character. I ended up doing a video on The Legend of Valkyrie a couple of months ago, so if you haven't seen that and want to learn more, check it out sometime. Namco X Capcom is great...but I have to admit, I've not played Project X Zone nor its sequel. Yet.
I have seen the other video, and I'm looking forward to part 2. The interconnectedness of the games, especially considering her player 2 character Kurino got his own platform game, is one of the more interesting things about them. PXZ1 has great moments, but PXZ2 is even better, and the Maiden Knight's setting has more focus on that one too, although not as much as NxC where her game had a bigger cast (although you can get and equip Kuruno's items, for example). Now that I'm playing Super Robot Wars Moon Dwellers, which follows from events in PXZ, the game does get another level or interest, but then again, the insane amount of connectedness between Namco/Banpresto games that get tied up into the SRW continuity is rather fascinating to me, although there's a lack of videos about that out there *wink wink nudge nudge*
+Slayerthecrow Very true--some of my favorite Namco characters also grace us with their (rare) presence in that game, like Taira no Kagekiyo and Wonder Momo!
Woo another multi-part series of Import Gaming FTW! Couldn't have asked for a better Christmas gift. ;) Well done telling the story of this game. Really sounds like an epic tale! 7:32 This comparison is pretty much my exact thought when I saw the first bit of game play in the video. Zelda game play with a Dragon Quest-like visual style. This looks like a fun game, but I definitely get the sense of the difficulty just by watching. I can't wait to see what the other games in this series are like. :)
+RPGtourguide Ha ha, well, the only time I did a multi-part series, I ended up cancelling it before it began! XD Thanks for watching, as usual, and of course an RPG guy would immediately think "Dragon Quest" when you saw the style--legit!
I have this game on a bootleg NES multigame cartridge, currently a level 7. Also am I the only one who noticed the cash register on the item price guide in the manual said "$256? " Obviously a Pacman Easter egg.
You always put a ton of work into your videos, and the high quality really shines through here. I've always wondered where Valkyrie came from, so the history was much appreciated. I know you mentioned there's no Japanese dialog in the game, but there was a point in your video where there was Japanese on the screen. I'm a pretty bad noob when it comes to Japanese (took an intro class in college) so my question to you is: Are there any choices you have to make when playing that revolve around reading Japanese text?
+Dongled Hey Mike, really appreciate the kind words man, and I'm glad you know a bit more about the origins of Valkyrie now. As far as Japanese in the game, I guess you're talking about when the game is paused? Aside from that, the ending message, the stats shown at the inn, and a character or two in game, there is NO text in the game at all. No choices, no language barrier, nothing. The same can't be said about its sequel, though. ;)
Awesome review Jimmy^-^Never played this one but i knew Valkyrie from Namco X Capcom and now i´m even more glad i bought Namcomuseum 3 and 5,cause now i can play Tower of Druaga and Legend of Valkyrie!Once again very good review and nice beginning with the Quest of Ki music,GCCX Anyone?!?
+kenshiroonline Thanks a bunch man! And good ears--that is indeed The Quest of Ki's standard stage music playing in the beginning of the video. A game that is really special to me--unfortunately, I haven't watched GCCX other than in passing while at game stores. I need to remedy this.
Dude, how cool that you cover this game! I played the hell out of the Arcade Version on Namco Museum Vol. 5 and I loved it. So i came along to import this game when I was just a small boy.....I get quiet nostalgic, while whatching your video :) As always nice review of an awesome, not that well known game!
+schweinefeigel I'm really glad you liked it, especially as someone who has memories of playing it! Hopefully you'll enjoy the next episode as well, since it's going to be about Legend of Valkyrie. If you skip it, I don't blame you! :) Anyway, thanks a lot!
A video featuring one of my favorite girls in gaming? Very fitting that it would be released around Christmas :) Will you be featuring the Namco Anthology 2 remake of this game in one of the upcoming videos perchance? Kinda funny that you encourage people to take this game on blind after sorta giving us a walkthrough of the game in the video :D I prefer the longer and more detailed videos and especially when it is about games I love or extremely obscure games.
+Tanerion Thanks for the feedback! And actually the reason I decided to do this three part series is because I wanted to cover that Namco Anthology 2 remake. Originally I was going to do an episode on that and briefly cover this game and Legend in the beginning, but Super Derek sort of convinced me to do three full episodes. Ha ha, and yeah, I wondered if anyone would think that about the "mini walkthrough." Originally, that line came before the walkthrough part, but I changed it to make the video flow better. I was going include a warning/spoiler alert, but figured, eh, people will forget about this video soon enough, so it wasn't necessary! XD
Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Oh that Derek... :3 I'm just glad to see some Valkyrie coverage in English so never better if there's several episodes that really go into detail. But if there's three episodes and you intend to cover the remake and Legend then does that mean that you won't cover the Xandra/Whirlo game or do you plan to work it into one or more of the episodes?
+Tanerion That's our Derek-kun! Well, I planned on mentioning the spin-off game briefly, but not as the focus of a full episode. I thought that maybe I'd leave that one for another day or project. ;) Plus, that's a game I haven't beaten yet!
+Alex Krasny Thank you for watching--I'm planning the next one to be about as long as this one, if everything goes accordingly...so prepare another cup of tea or two, and I hope you enjoy it! :)
Great game, but the story just made me realize how depressing it’s implications are. So Valkyrie, an immortal is fighting for all of her immortal friends to become mortal, and thus be able to die. Purely because of making immortality not an option, Zouna has become my most hated villain of all time. Seriously, this guy single handedly ruined immortality for an entire world’s population. How do you become so evil that you can make a world give up its immortality just for the ability to not have to deal with you?
+cyrus649 Yes, VERY different, as you already know. The Legend of Valkyrie is the superior game, but its predecessor has grown on me and I might actually like it better now...
Dear Jimmy, Please stop spending my money for me. You've showed me so many super cool Famicom games that I always go out and end up buying to add to my collection. The late great Jew Wario had the same effect on me. It seems you truly picked up the torch and I couldn't be happier. Love, InnovaX5
+InnovaX5 That's really kind of your to say--thank you very much. I don't know if anyone can truly "pick up the torch" for Jew Wario, but it's great that Japanese games are getting more exposure these days, and his legacy has not been forgotten. It's funny that you mention him, since a certain RPG reviewing, nice hair style having friend of mine suggested I turn this episode into something like You Can Play This. I decided not to, since I think it would come across as disrespectful, but someday I'd love to do something like that as a tribute to Justin.
I've only ever Imported the Sengoku Basara series. I do wish some of these games get Easier to import or actually come over here to the states Fingers crossed one day one these things will happen
There are so many great games worth importing, IMO (obviously, ha ha). I hope more people will have the chance to play the games I've covered with proper localization, though with this one, it's completely unnecessary.
Great video! Not sure I would be able to appreciate the game (I'm so bad with very cryptic games ha) but wow some of that old school hand-drawn art looks amazing D:
+MsSunnyGamer Thanks! Yeah, I love the old art style from games and anime from the 80s and 90s. Since things have gone mostly or all digital regarding art direction in entertainment, everything looks the same and boring...at least in my opinion.
Yep I can totally see where you are coming from. I think a lot of companies may be going "X sold well so we need to make sure our new game Y looks like X!" so there might be less push to make the art look unique. There are also a lot of shortcuts artists can take with digital, so I think quite a few people take that a little too far which can make their art look a little "samey". Well, I don't know anyone in that industry so that's just my guess ha.
I very much enjoyed this video and learning a little bit more of this franchise since I have zero experience with it. I can't wait to see the next ones!
+Brandon Helmers Thank you very much, and I hope you get just as much from the next video. If you feel you need to do some research on your own before then, though, I'm all for it! :)
I like Both sizes of Videos, since some games lack the depth to say much about but are still worth recommending & playing for their charm. I played this months ago, never got far though - it's too cryptic!
+Ashuten Thanks for the input--I hope that you can get further if you decide to pick it up again, since I kind of spoiled the entire game by including a mini-walkthrough! XD
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) can you upload an Ost of the Legend of Valkyrie The Key of Time on your channel or ask Crunchii music extensions to make one ASAP?! IT SOUNDS SO GOOOOOD!!!!!
Was Valkyrie Profile supposed to be a homenage to Valkyrie no Bouken? Tri-Ace Staff was formed by ex Namco staff members and the original Tales of Phantasia had the original Valkyrie in the game (and lots of references to nordic mythology).
+Kristóf Muzsik Thank you! I'm surprised with how familiar you are with Japanese games that you haven't played this one to death yet. I hope you enjoy the game if you pick it up...if not, at least it's a cheap game, and a cool collectible!
I've had this game for a while now but haven't finished it. I've spent more time with Valkyrie No Densetsu on PC Engine, much more of a pick up and play game.
+KidShoryuken It's definitely a better and more enjoyable game, but there's an even better Valkyrie game than Legend, IMO. You should try out the arcade version of LoV sometime if you haven't--coop is super fun.
All official--most of it was scanned directly from an art book called "Legend," which mostly features art from the spinoff games and PS1 Namco Anthology remake.
+Famigamers Yep, it's a pretty good, if not a bit difficult, spin-off/prequel to the Adventure of Valkyrie. I have an extra copy, so I thought I might throw it in a Hapa Box for you if you decide you want one. :)
+Famigamers Yep, it's a pretty good, if not a bit difficult, spin-off/prequel to the Adventure of Valkyrie. I have an extra copy, so I thought I might throw it in a Hapa Box for you if you decide you want one. :)
+RibbonPL Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! I'm hoping to have a video...or videos...about Legend of Valkyrie out in the next few months. I had everything ready earlier this year, but decided the script was too long and am in the process or re-writing it.
+TootyUk Thanks a bunch Tooty! The next video in the series might take a while to get out, since I'll be out of country for half of January, but I'm setting things up so it won't be TOO delayed because of that. :)
+Nick Q Most of the art I used in this video are scanned from the "Legend" Valkyrie art book. It's an awesome resource for the series, and not too outrageously pricey. :)
Awesome, glad to hear you picked it up, especially with that map. Can't get those with games these days outside special editions...can't get manuals, either.
+samuraiyue Ha ha, well, thank you for the kind words. Even though my videos could be much better, especially this one in particular, I take a little bit of pride in them, silly, meaningless UA-cam videos that they are. :)
I heard that this game isn't actually based on Norse mythology, and that she's not even an actual valkyrie, just dresses like one. Can't tell if this is true or not
Question: I've been playing this game a lot on my 500 in 1, and is it normal for a single teenage male to have a crush on an 8-bit Sprite of a girl with a sword and a shield? XD
Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Actually I was wondering if you upload a 30 minute custom music track that starts with the level up theme right before transitioning to the Overworld theme because the way you made it sounds so epic that you should do so. It's not just an intro skip button you know! I'd LOVE that! I love your Valkyrie videos and I want you to do that. Just those two tracks put together into one would make my life a complete one.
l don't know... l wanted to like this game because the art is so cool and the main character is cute, but this game just is not player friendly at all. It's not a game that invites you to play. Instead, it's a game you have to aggressively attack and stay with despite wanting to quit. Those aren't the kind of games l like to spend my time on, especially for a simple text ending.
I always thought your script/editing was too slow. You convey too little information in too much time. This is only getting more problematic in longer videos. I like long videos, if they are well made. Just look at this part from Battle Zeque Den here. ua-cam.com/video/J75-rrybM5Y/v-deo.htmlm53s You need over a minute for something that could've been said in 10 seconds.
+Ryuma King I'm guessing you thumbed down the video? If so, good, I appreciate what I assume is your honest opinion. Always pleased to receive criticism, as it's something I always want, but rarely get. As far as your critiques, I like to pace my videos and give the viewer enough time to take in and process the information the are presented. It can be seen as slow, but in my opinion, it's better than having things shown or said too quickly, especially for what I'm trying to do with this series. I'll keep what you said in mind, but I can't say the way I edit or write will be much different, if at all, from what you see here. Regarding that Battle Zeque Den video, I decided to do that montage more to add style than anything else, basically to show a bunch of footage/tropes from other beat 'em ups. I know I could have just explained that in a sentence or two, but I thought it would be more interesting in the way I decided to present it. I wish I could have done more with it, though, as well as that episode, since I personally dislike that video in particular. Anyway, thanks again, and it's too bad you didn't like this video. I put in a lot of effort making it, and while I felt it was indeed boring in parts, I also felt it was well made. You win some, you lose most, though! XD
In a perfect world, every game review would be as thorough and informative as this. Great channel.
Well, all I can say about that is thanks a lot. :)
Is he paying you to talk like that?

From what I read though, Valkyrie doesn't use her ship here, instead actually walking on the rainbow to the other side. Project x Zone even made jokes to this (and as long as I remember, no mentions to a ship was made).

XD
I haven't played the PxZ games, but they sound like a lot of fun!

I really love how you did the story part.. looks great, and kind of feels like a intro to an 80's, adventurous anime series! Great stuff!!
Looks rather interesting, kind of reminds me of that Chase the Express Famicom game.
+Larry Bundy Jr I must admit, in passing I've heard of "Chase the Express" before, but knew nothing about it. Doing a search or two only came up with results to a PS1 game...so, ha ha, I'm a bit confused to what you're talking about! XD
Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!)
I'll have to look up the Japanese name for it, but it's appeared o an episode of Game Center CX once.
+Larry Bundy Jr Please let me know what it is when you do--and Game Center CX, eh? I am shamefully not in on the GCCX scene, despite having been around it for years in game shops living in Japan and such!
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) It's Challenger by Hudson. It was a season 2 episode of Game Center CX.
+Kusoge Thanks for the info--I've passed on that game several times...won't make that mistake again!
Nice username and icon, BTW. :)
Now that Namco games are on NSO (Mappy-Land and Dig-Dug 2) hope we get this game too, seeing as Arcade Archives/Hamster recently released the arcade sequel to Valkyrie.
2:06 - Valkyrie Amiibo
16:05 - Whirlo

An excellent video, as always. So, finally you review this clasical character. I remember the first time i see her was in "Namco vs Capcom", and being mystified as to who she was, especially as i loved her design. Now, let tell you that hearing you say that this is a 3 part video make me really happy! Thank you! By the way, happy 2016 and as always, a pleasure to see you video!
+hesstarr2 Thanks you, happy new year as well, let's make it a good one. Well, as good as it can be, anyway! :)
If you're happy about this video, I'm twice as happy!
Thanks a lot, and I'm glad Valkyrie is becoming more well-known outside of Japan. Haven't played the PXZ games...yet.
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) They really are good and help introduce us to new characters we wouldn't know about or know very little about. I just hope their prequel, Namco X Capcom, gets like an HD rerelease or something.
Yeah, fingers crossed (no pun intended) for a Namco X Capcom re-release. I mean, it has Taira no Kagekiyo from Genpei Toumaden in it...awesome.
Kagekiyo...He's the one that looks like a Kabuki Samurai paired up with the little boy I think is called Tarosuke? I've never been able to play it (PS2 Emulation is too complicated) but I did watch an LP a few years back. I do remember most of the characters at least.
Why does UA-cam recommend me this video..... 8 years later!!??
Watching this review after all this time (read: three or so years) makes me want a remake of this game in the style of Breath of the Wild. It would be a perfect fit.
I agree wholeheartedly. Man, that would be something!
@@ImportGamingFTW That'd be one heck of a way to reintroduce her to the modern audiences~
+The Dali Popka Thanks buddy! But to be honest, I don't think I like doing long videos. XD
I feel like that english was pretty complicated for Japanese gamers to fully understand at the end. Also, keep up these long videos! I have been in a real "long, in depth youtube game review" kind of mood lately.
+Avalanche Reviews You didn't get the memo? UA-cam viewers like short videos! 1 minute, tops.
That makes sense. Americans have been getting fucked up Kanji tattooed on their bodies for that same reason.
+BJ Wanlund Huge bonus points for RECOGNIZING the Quest of Ki music! ;)
I used a few tracks from that game as well as the Tower of Druaga for this video...only seemed fitting to do so, plus there are only three or so music tracks in Adventure of Valkyrie total, so I had no choice really.
I'll stick with doing detailed videos, I think. They take more time to make, but if they're more helpful to people who watch them and decide to play the games for themselves, then it's totally worth it. :)
En serio que ha sido unas de las joyas de Namco
I had no idea that Sandra was connected to Valkyrie until now. That's freakin' awesome!
Oh yeah, one can't have Sandra without Valkyrie...I couldn't even separate them for the thumbnail on this and the second Valkyrie video.
Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Ha! That's adorable! xD
+CAPMAX Gaming I'm a big fan of those old school Famicom guides and pick them up pretty much any chance I get!
Marvel Land? Sounds like a Marvel Comics Amusement Park. Also i might have to check this one out. Good thing there a Translation patch. Good Video.
XD
I love how Project X Zone 2 has some fun referencing and using the fact 2 different games call their worlds the same thing.
I remember this character in the opening in Namco X Capcom, but it's not the only obscure character from namco in that game
+Slayerthecrow Very true--some of my favorite Namco characters also grace us with their (rare) presence in that game, like Taira no Kagekiyo and Wonder Momo!
Valkyrie lo vi en NAMCO X CAPCOM, Project X Zone 1 y 2 y también En Imágenes de Fetiches de Patas
XD
Thanks for watching, as usual, and of course an RPG guy would immediately think "Dragon Quest" when you saw the style--legit!
Np bro, always enjoy your reviews and yeah watch some GCCX!Take Care^^
I'm still waiting for part 3, Jimmy
The game is now on Switch in the Arcade Archives collection!
Anyway, thanks a lot!
Dont`t worry, I would never skip an episode from you :)
+schweinefeigel Well, I appreciate that. :)
I can only hope I can do Legend justice! It's a great game!
I love every Zelda game, so this game is right up my alley
Also the green guy looks like sour patch kids candy
LMAO, I totally see that.
A video featuring one of my favorite girls in gaming? Very fitting that it would be released around Christmas :)
Will you be featuring the Namco Anthology 2 remake of this game in one of the upcoming videos perchance?
Kinda funny that you encourage people to take this game on blind after sorta giving us a walkthrough of the game in the video :D
I prefer the longer and more detailed videos and especially when it is about games I love or extremely obscure games.
I'm just glad to see some Valkyrie coverage in English so never better if there's several episodes that really go into detail.
I thought that maybe I'd leave that one for another day or project. ;)
Plus, that's a game I haven't beaten yet!
Nice one! I like the long ones. I like to enjoy them over a cup of tea like a nice tv show.
Ha ha, I never really gave it that much thought--Zouna sucks!
Absolutely love your videos. The editing is amazing.
+theflyingninja1 Thank you very much--I'm always striving to improve the way I edit videos.
I enjoy the pc engine title, but didn't realize it was different to the Famicom version
+cyrus649 Yes, VERY different, as you already know. The Legend of Valkyrie is the superior game, but its predecessor has grown on me and I might actually like it better now...
Biggest jimmy video to date! Deff looking forward to the reviews of the more modern entries into this series.
Excellent episode bud! Can't wait for the followups! :D
+SuperDerek RPGs Always appreciated, my finely groomed friend. I'm sure you'd like these games.
Dear Jimmy,
Please stop spending my money for me. You've showed me so many super cool Famicom games that I always go out and end up buying to add to my collection. The late great Jew Wario had the same effect on me. It seems you truly picked up the torch and I couldn't be happier.
Love,
InnovaX5
+InnovaX5 That's really kind of your to say--thank you very much. I don't know if anyone can truly "pick up the torch" for Jew Wario, but it's great that Japanese games are getting more exposure these days, and his legacy has not been forgotten. It's funny that you mention him, since a certain RPG reviewing, nice hair style having friend of mine suggested I turn this episode into something like You Can Play This. I decided not to, since I think it would come across as disrespectful, but someday I'd love to do something like that as a tribute to Justin.
Give it a little more time. When it feels right, you'll know. If there is any channel who could make it feel natural and beautiful, its yours.
+InnovaX5 Thank you for the kind words. If I decide to go forward with such a project, I only hope that it does come across as natural and beautiful.
True
Also, I love this format best. Keep up the awesome work.
XD
I don't know how to say this but how about to make review on not so good game for Famicom Hoshi wo miru hito aka stargazers
Wow, I had thought for years that she was just a soul caliber character @.@
+HistoricNerd Ha ha, well, the more you know!
Thanks for the awesome episode!
I've been eyeing with the game for quite some time, and I'll make sure to pick it up when I can.
+Kristóf Muzsik Thank you! I'm surprised with how familiar you are with Japanese games that you haven't played this one to death yet. I hope you enjoy the game if you pick it up...if not, at least it's a cheap game, and a cool collectible!
This is a great video, I like long informative ones and you pretty much covered every major detail of this game, looking forward to the next two!
+David Richard Thank you for the feedback, and I'm glad you liked the video. I'm hoping to get part 2 and 3 completely finished by March!
Hey Jimmy. Longer is good for me, and i love your humour so leave it in lol. Also can you do London Seirei for ps1 after these? :D
Followed the trail of breadcrumbs and found this comment (and your message reply). Yay :)
I love the art, was it taken from any official material or was it fanmade?
All official--most of it was scanned directly from an art book called "Legend," which mostly features art from the spinoff games and PS1 Namco Anthology remake.
I think I've seen a platform game using the Sandra (?) as main character and wielding a pitchfork or something similar.
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Could be... Could you remind me the name? I can't recall...
Awesome review! Great to watch and listen. I've always been interested in Valkyrie series so I await next episode.
+RibbonPL Thanks for watching, glad you liked it! I'm hoping to have a video...or videos...about Legend of Valkyrie out in the next few months. I had everything ready earlier this year, but decided the script was too long and am in the process or re-writing it.
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Great man, take your time. Your videos are very fun and professional made.
The music is in Project X Zone 2
+VGBC P3rs0na The legendary Valkyrie theme. ;)
another cracking vid Jimmy, looking forward to the next instalment
+TootyUk Thanks a bunch Tooty! The next video in the series might take a while to get out, since I'll be out of country for half of January, but I'm setting things up so it won't be TOO delayed because of that. :)
where can i find all of the art you have in the video? it's amazing
+Nick Q Most of the art I used in this video are scanned from the "Legend" Valkyrie art book. It's an awesome resource for the series, and not too outrageously pricey. :)
thank you for the response! I love this series (especially the SNES entry you didn't cover here) . I think i'll pick up the art book! thanks again!
+Nick Q You're welcome, and you're in luck, since you like Sandra's Adventure, because that art book has tons of art from that game. :)
eSOS JUEGOS TENÍAN MÁS HISTORIA QUE LAS COSAS GACHAS QUE AHORA NOS ENCONTRAMOS, X'D.
Just discovered you channel! Love it!! Please continue!
Thank you very much. I'll continue at least until the end of this year!
Found a boxed copy that came with the map :3
Awesome, glad to hear you picked it up, especially with that map. Can't get those with games these days outside special editions...can't get manuals, either.
WHY YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO GOOD??? ;_____________;
+samuraiyue Ha ha, well, thank you for the kind words. Even though my videos could be much better, especially this one in particular, I take a little bit of pride in them, silly, meaningless UA-cam videos that they are. :)
But still so gooooood ;_;
+samuraiyue Well, thanks man, you're always so nice, I'm so glad you like my vids!
This game is on arcade archives
The items in this game seem like animal crossing games
Interesting. I haven't played too much Animal Crossing, so I can't make the connection. I'll keep it in mind if I ever play AC again, though.
XD
If it's Valkyrie, perfectly healthy IMO.
looks a bit like hydlide
+sean hill Sure does--I thought about making that comparison in this video, but thought...eh, do I really want or need to do that? :)
Plays and looks just like Zelda...hmmm no I don't think it's for me...
0:05
LOL, is that an "intro skip button?"
The music is terrible in this game. It's as if they took zeldas music, removed half the notes, and threw it in a blender.
l don't know... l wanted to like this game because the art is so cool and the main character is cute, but this game just is not player friendly at all.
Just look at this part from Battle Zeque Den here.
ua-cam.com/video/J75-rrybM5Y/v-deo.htmlm53s
You need over a minute for something that could've been said in 10 seconds.
XD
