Just realized at 20:05 the text I had there just says "C" (C is my shortcut to cut while editing so it probably got wiped on accident).....What was meant to go there is that we do not know if Sonic Rush was in fact going to be a prequel or sequel to 06 but just that the two games were going to be connected. Always take an extra look over your work before submitting LOL
So she has a lot of ability’s that are similar to sonics and was meant to be a parallel of him and many of her story beats are like knuckles… so that’s why she’s purple! In all seriousness it’s probably a coincidence but I still think it’s funny to think about it.
I think she’s actually a big parallel they’re both yellow eyes purple cats but ones royalty with fire powers and the others a fisherman hows often around water
@@weirdbones1784 That’s an interesting parallel to draw considering that these two could not possibly be more different as characters. Still hoping to see both of them in a mainline game again but they both appeared in Team Sonic Racing, so maybe there’s hope.

But awhile back out of curiosity I wonder what MBTI (meyers briggs personality test) type sonic was. this lead me down a crazy rabbit hole of finding out The type sonic is most associated with (ESTP as majority ruled by the personality database site) would get along with and be romantically involved with is ISTJ
Which happens to be voted as Knuckles AND Blaze’s personality type.
And when you look at the way the MBTI site and various others describe ESTP/ISTJ relationships it really does pin the dynamics of both sonic and knuckles and sonic and blaze’s down to a T. It really is a quick and easy way to figure out how and why they click the way that they do.
Its interesting because it made me realize how alike Blaze and knuckles actually are, straight down to their creation.
Granted, If you share a type with someone, its not saying that they are literally you, just that the ways in which you go about life and acheiving your goals are similar.
Blaze and Knuckles definitely aren’t the same at all, but its interesting how much they have in common, even down to their color theory.
Tails being orange/yellow to COMPLIMENT sonics blue, amy being pink because its INBETWEEN orange and blue, knuckles being red because it CONTRASTS blue and like OP said (though it may be a coincidence) blaze happening to be the EXACT color you get when you mix sonics shade of blue with knuckles’ red.
The difference being, that purple can compliment blue as well as go against it, which is something that red doesn’t do.
Ntm knuckles and blaze were both created to serve similar purposes
This comment wasn’t meant to add anything to convo, just an interesting thing i noticed personally that i wanted to share. Its just crazy how many different ways the character designer over at SEGA can create a character for the same purpose and go in so many radically different ways.

The prototype makes Blaze look dark and mysterious; I love that! Also, the whole gem on the forehead thing reminds me of another powerful female, Raven.

One of my personal favorite characters. Always was fascinated with a lot of her earlier concepts. When it comes to the dark looking Blaze concept art, honestly, it would be cool if they pulled a Morpho Knight from Kirby and reuse that design for a new character.

Blaze has been one of my favorites for a long while. Her story and overall personality is one I can really relate with and it's always a treat to see her despite the infrequent appearances.

I love Blaze, I like all the character concepts and all her prototype art is very beautiful and has interesting ideas, I wanted to say more things but you already summed up everything i was going to say in the video lol but i'm glad the development videos are back, i love this kind of content, it's cool to see the ideas the team and artists had and how they envisioned it on paper

I'm glad SEGA hasn't overused Blaze...they easily could have, and the fact that they haven't makes it easier to enjoy the games that she's in.

Blaze is also one of the few Sonic characters that Sega/Sonic Team hasn't ruined (portrayed horribly), but I guess that's because she wasn't in a lot of games compare to the ones they had ruined

They ruined her lore in 06 and made it a confusing mess. I feel like the writers got to a point where they just choose to ignore her. They have zero clue where to take her character as of now.
@@godfrey4461 The problem is that Akinori Nishiyama was appointed as the general manager for titles from Sega. The bad news is that he hasn't worked on any Sonic games since the Black Knight. So without him Sonic Team may have a hard time using her.
The good news is that there's an indie game called Freedom Planet 2 that has a character similar to Blaze called Lilac.
@@godfrey4461despite 06 it's very fixable mostly anyway rush adventure did come out after 06 and sported the same origin as rush did for her and Yuji Naka has been pretty discreet that rush's origin of the sol dimension is the direction they will stick with to the ends of time for blaze (eggman nega has had more of a weird change but the complete opposite the fact it was changed in the same year as rivals and rush adventure came out roughly the same time makes it weirder) think the problem stems from the games from the 2010s and maybe onwards haven't used her at all probably because of the games that get pitched rarely include her so writers don't have much control to get her in unless it's a spin-off in which you can be all over the place. The IDW is proof enough the writers at least the western writers have a good idea on blaze it's just they don't have the control to insert it in the games unless said game pushes the narrative more which admittedly for the past few years they rarely have except the more recent frontiers
It’s such a shame that at this point well for me Blaze is basically the Waluigi of the Sonic Series as she usually only ever appears in Spin-offs.
Blaze had so much potential, she's my fave female Sonic character and I'm sad Sega just wasted her potential.
I would love for the cape to become a part of Blaze's outfit that she wears outside of combat, maybe when she's performing her royal duties? Or if she ever appears as a playable character again, an unlockable costume.
Blaze is one of the most underrated characters in this franchise. Shame she didn’t get much screen time in 06, or be a part of the resistance in Forces. Also really cool video! I have a recommendation, try something about knuckles chaotix.

I thought I was a mini Blaze expert since she's my favorite of the cast. Yet you still showed me things I didn't know. The Mephiles like Proto Blaze I didn't know (which should totally return as a villain). Nor have I seen the side profile Arabic concept art. I really like how you can see her concept arts having an influence on her finalized design, despite looking so much different.
The Proto Burning Tiger Blaze, which looks sick, honestly looks like it could've influenced Shade the Echidna. Like, Shade is just a more sleek version of that, just without the Super Saiyan powers.
I loved Blaze when I was growing up, we need more Blaze action in games and media
To be honest, while I never doubted Blaze’s greatness as a character, I found it hard for the longest time to find her fascinating. But that may be because I’ve never played the Rush games. Still, I think her self reliance and experience as a princess shows she has a lot of leadership potential, and it would be nice if SEGA decided to expand on her backstory like how she was ridiculed because of her fire powers. And as I was writing this I thought that she’s a bit like Elsa from Frozen, except with her power being reverse (Blaze is still better, I actually really don’t like Frozen). Out of all the concept designs, I think the one with the salwar and the bit of jewelry dangling from her waist is my favorite. And LOL when I heard the part about her running in high heels I was half-expecting a Jurassic World reference.
We need a Blaze-centric game fighting Eggman Nega in the Sol Dimension.
Blaze has been my favorite female Sonic character since she debuted in Rush.

I don't know if anyone has pointed out, but honestly, Blaze's prototype design feels like the artist did that thing you tend to see in comics where if a character is kept mysterious and hidden, their entire character is shaded out and mostly black with only a few colors and hints of the full design peeking through.
Also her prototype design can't help but make me feel like she was going to be utilized more in '06, I don't know if she would flat out replace her, but her story arc feels like it fits much better if she was counted at the main princess in '06, plus there is a lot of things that sort of make a lot more sense if you think about the story in that context. I have no clue if that's true, but it was the same case for Cream who appeared not too long before Blaze, having a similar development history of being specifically made for Heroes' gameplay, but had her debut and story origins in a game released right before the big console entry. I mean her design feels very much reminiscent of what Mephiles' design was, like to a scary degree, feels like a lot of her promotional art for the design is another take on the idea of what Shadow was when he was introduced, being the possible "villain" to Sonic's "hero", MAYBE, that bit is just an assumption on my part (well, technically ALL of this is, but this was mostly an assumption of an assumption). Plus it would make her inclusion feel a lot more impactful than the story we DID get where, basically, she was only included to die, which also didn't amount to anything.
Yes I know, she has some lines referencing she might recognize Sonic and it was stated somewhere that "it's the same Blaze from Rush so clearly it takes place after it", but honestly that sounds just weird when you examine the game as a whole, especially when nowhere else in the story is the idea brought up or expanded on. At best she only has 3 lines where she even comes close to alluding to her knowing Sonic, and they're all only at the start of Silver's story, after that it's never brought up again.
Another thing I find REALLY weird about Blaze, she has a very Indian or Arabian influenced design, yet the subjects of her Dimension/kingdom are a bunch of Koala's and Australian-like citizens. Although granted, there was a lot of Arabian designs going around at this time when you look at the big picture, it's still odd:
- Blaze's early outfits
- The Babylonians as a whole
- The fact we got a whole game based on the idea with Secret Rings
- One of '06 villains/bad guys is named Iblis which is derived from Djinn
- The version of Blaze's palace that we see in the IDW comics where it finally shown off what it looks like (dont know if it will stay canonically that design or not considering the games are not canon to the comics but it's true the other way around, being our best guess as to what the current canon/lore is)
Also the credits being misspelled in Rush feel all over the place because in some spots they spelled some of the names correctly when others aren't.
This is just a side thing because footage keeps being shown, I honestly hope that Team Sonic Racing's visual mechanic for the Rings gets carried over into future titles, I like the idea of being able to spot the glow of some rings when they're off in the distance (can also double as a good programming aspect for things that are too far to load in, sort of acting as a "fog wall", at least for rings, maybe for general items an enemies too? not sure)
Blaze is absolutely my favorite Sonic character, and just one of my favorites in general! I'd like to know more about her world/family/history/etc not only in comics,but in her own game. If only Sonic 06 wasn't rushed, we could've seen her story expanded instead of being retconed. Lastly, who would dare make fun of Blaze as a kid?!

On the topic of the Guardian comparison between Knuckles and Blaze. Something I'd like to point out is that the games(and IDW Comics) don't have to explain around Blaze showing up since she can carry the Sol Emeralds. However, outside of the Adventure games and 3&K, the games completely drop Knuckles being the Master Emerald Guardian because it's a hassle to explain around it.
I never get kids teasing someone with powerful and dangerous abilities. You're literally messing with fire here.
Imo, Blaze is an excellent character and should be playable again, while mostly useless, her gameplay from Sonic.T.H.2006 was the best from what I’ve heard.
I didn’t like her being in Sonic.T.H.2006, she wasn’t as interesting aside from the Iblis fire connection, it wasn’t utilize that much.
Also had an idea to turn her concept Blaze design for a form that’s an equivalent to the Hyper form, the Black Fire form.

It's safe to say that Sonic 06 happens before Sonic Rush at this point, though likely with Blaze just remembering Crisis City itself as a result of being Iblis new vessel and having been transported to it by the Sol Emeralds before the reset.

One of the greatest characters in terms of character arc and personality. Only female Sonic character to fight Sonic to a standstill.
This is a really sick video man! I loved that opening edited to Back 2 Back Blazy Mix, that shit was rad.
I never really got "shy" from Blaze's character, that's an interesting interpretation. I always saw her as a bit proud, bit mostly stone-hearted, only trusting herself and not wanting anyone to be hurt by being near her, either by her flames or those after the Sol Emeralds.
But Sonic Advance 3? GOAT? No way man, the screen crunch of the Advance games is bad enough without stages designed by a 12 year old.
Also I had no idea Radio Redux/Sonic Wrecks man was the one who first showed off that proto-Blaze. I remember hearing him talk about the design on Radio Redux saying she looked a bit like a lion

That IGN score just blew my mind.
I find it funny how Blaze In Rush paralleled everything about Sonic by having similar moves but done different, like how she twirls instead of curl into a ball, or does more more ballet style breakdance rather than the cardboard matt style Sonic does. The reason I find this funny is mainly the way she runs, Sonic doesn't pump his arms and lets the speed of his legs do all the work, so he splays his arms behind him and leans forward to be more aerodynamic, so Blaze parallels this by running more up right and tucks her fists to her sides, but she's actually replicating the way Classic Sonic ran minus the circular motion with the legs.
blaze is just a fire-type espeon
Blaze's first design concept dates back to Sonic Adventure 2 as the possible antagonist for the story. This would be scrapped and idea changed from a cat to a black Hedgehog who we all know today as Shadow. Because of this, you can see that Blaze has a personality similar to the Ultimate Lifeform.

If Sega started bringing more playable characters into 3D Sonic again, Blaze wouldn’t be a bad place to start. She’s similar enough to Sonic gameplay wise, has been a fan favorite since Rush, and combining Sonic and Blaze’s worlds in one game could make for a big adventure

(Sonic '06 spoilers ahead, for those who haven't played it) I always figured the whole deal with Blaze being in Sonic '06 was that the game takes place before Sonic Rush, and that Blaze being sent to another dimension at the end of Silver's story was a way of tying the two games together: she was born in Silver's future of Sonic's world, is sealed away in another dimension, and then presumably at some point becomes princess of that dimension and guardian of the Sol Emeralds. Of course, that doesn't explain why she doesn't recognize Sonic at the beginning of Sonic Rush... maybe she lost her memory when being sent to that other dimension. (Of course, by the end of Sonic '06, Iblis never existed and the whole story is wiped from time, but I'm guessing that change never affected Blaze's dimension, making her something of a temporal refugee. Doesn't she say something regarding how she never expected to see Crisis City again in Sonic Generations? Of course, that undermines my earlier idea that she lost her memory of the events of Sonic '06... aaaagh...)

wait, if the sol emeralds come from the sol dimension, then would that make sonic's own dimension the chaos dimension?
Blaze is the *perfect* alt character for Sonic games. She even works in modern games because she has a boost.
Sega should just make a new game where the Sol Emeralds do some weird thing and merge both worlds so we don’t have to have a reason every time. Marine could even be her Tails, or just Cream. Still have her use the Sol Emeralds that you collect along side the Chaos Emeralds which would still be the main Emeralds (or just have the Sol Emeralds get destroyed and Burning Blaze is just through the Chaos Emeralds now). Plus now that Silver is basically always in their time, they can be partners like in 06.
Blaze, Shadow, Metal Sonic, and even Silver if they rework his powers to have a psychokinetic boost, would be great playable characters in future games. If Sega wants to connect the IDW comics, Surge would also be a great boost character. Especially for a “Dark Story” segment.

So a few of the articles here mention that Blaze was intended to be Sonic's equivalent in the Sol Dimension, but when I try to find the original source it takes me to a bio page in Japanese, which according to Deep L doesn't seem to mention anything about that. Do you know of any source that confirms she was intended to be Sonic's equivalent? Because I'd really like to find one.
