      I would have thought the same thing after I had once tried to play Crusader Kings 2 and got overwhelmed, failed, and quit. The UI in CK3 is the best I've seen in any game, period. Have you ever seen something in a mouse over tooltip that you wanted more information about, but you couldn't mouse over that to get more information because if you did, the tooltip would disappear? Well that problem is solved in CK3. There are infinite tooltips within tooltips. When a tooltip comes up, and a faint progress bar completes, you can then mouse your mouse pointer onto that new tooltip to hover over other icons and keywords for even more information.

      Also, losing is fun in this game. In my game, I, as high king of Ireland, had married off my daughters to high Kings of other countries, one of which was Denmark. Many of those countries, especially Denmark, found themselves at war with my next-door neighbor, England, a military superpower at the time. I had an obligation to assist them in that war against England. Otherwise, it would have been a waste to marry off my daughters to them. We lost all those wars, but my participation in those wars was more than any other country so, I still gained positive opinions from them, but now, we're in poor standing with England.
      Time passes and my high king passes away of old age and my son heir takes over the throne of Ireland. Not everyone is happy about this because the heir was contested and others also had claims to the throne. Add to that, I also had a debuff on opinion from everyone because I was a new ruler.
      I then noticed a warning notification in the UI that the current heir of one of my vassals was from England. And that vassal was 67 years old. Once he died, I will have lost that territory to the kingdom of England. I was not having any of that, so I looked into ways to prevent this. I tried to increase my authority as high king so I could dictate who that heir would be, but according to Irish culture, that increase of authority was prohibited. It would have taken too long to convert people to a different culture more accepting of increased king power, so I was desperate to keep England from taking my land.
      So, I decided to attempt an assassination of the heir, who was a 12-year-old boy. I started a plot to murder him and I asked my spymaster to help ensure its success. After about 6 or 7 months of planning, my spymaster saw an opportunity. He befriended the boy and offered to take him on a trip to somewhere (I forget) and then took him into the forest, where he left him overnight reporting back that he went missing. Later, the boy was discovered mauled by some wild animal, but my spymaster became so guilty that he confessed, which implicated me as the murderer of the boy. Now, public opinion of me as tanked, especially by the close family of the boy, which there were apparently several Irish people in power who were related either by blood or by marriage. That being said, my plan technically worked. The new heir to that territory at risk was now under my authority, but it now comes at the cost of my reputation with literally everyone.
      Now, my number one priority is to ensure than my next heir maintains his right to the throne long enough to give my dynasty as a second chance at ruling Ireland.
      And that's where I'm at now.

      @@chessplayer8798 I know what you mean. I spend the first 1-2 hours just paused diving deeper and deeper into the multiple nested tooltips leasurely. If it were any other system, I'd feel exasperated that is have to dismiss the current tooltip to go into a different menu to reference something (that I feel like I need to memorize eventually) and then come back to the previous menu to hover over what I was looking at before to read the tooltip with a better understanding. All that can be cut out by simply moving the mouse pointer to what you don't understand, and they game will tell you.
      Ya, it's a long tutorial, but I was done with the tutorial in less than 8 hours, including lots of long breaks without prompts towards the end.

      @@chessplayer8798 i know this probably comes as little of a surprise but read tooltips carefully and repeatedly, stop time often to read and think and read again, use the built in encyclopedia and read even more. play it slowly, embrace defeat and other setbacks. your goal should not be to win, but to have fun with countless alternate histories and stories developing over the course of every new match. as for the tutorial, play it slowly, conquer ireland bit by bit, you can take 30 years without waging a new war, you have time to spare, use the fact that you start with a lot of gold to increase levy size through buildings or use the gold to pay men at arms (basically mercenaries) to win more territory.

    One good way to get knights, especially early is to marry courtiers off to high prowess characters. You have to select a matrilineal marriage to get the person to come to your court, otherwise your courtier will leave to wherever their spouse is.

      @ykp0799 2 роки тому

      You can marry male courtiers to characters with good congenital traits like genius, beautiful, and herculean so that they have kids with good traits for marrying or for being future high quality vassals, councilors or knights.

    13:05 I may be misunderstanding the mechanic, but my experience is that as a king (Created a Kingdom) I have less direct vassals slots and I instead give my less valuable vassels to other vassals until I only had like 2?

    • @PartyElite
      @PartyElite  4 роки тому

      Let me know if this helps:
      As you go up the ranks, you're allowed more direct vassals.
      Duke = 20
      King = 40
      Emperor = 80
      There are penalties for having more counties than your domain limit, and for having more than 2 duchies (iirc). So you want to hand out titles to people to make them your vassals under you. Keep the best territories for yourself! To stay below your vassal limit, when you're a king, you make people dukes, and give them counts under them. And when you're Emperor, you make people kings, and give them dukes under them.
      The way to organize vassals is based on "de jure". Make sure the right counts are under the right dukes. That way you get the most out of them.
      I hope that helps? Might've just made it worse!

You have by FAAAAR the best pacing, explanations, examples and coverage I've ever seen on Paradox games. Please keep making these, they're incredibly useful! For people like me (and im sure there's a lot more out there), these an be the difference between giving Paradox games a chance and ultimately enjoying them, or giving up in frustration. Thanks a bunch my guy! Fingers crossed for a long series of these, touching on specific topics. Basically anything character oriented.

    Awesome tutorial!
    I really hope Paradox work on the vassals a bit, even looking at this tutorial I can see that "powerful vassals" are kinda broken.
    they need to fix what's defined as a "powerful vassal" like you had a vassal with 150 troops and he was considered powerful which is just annoying,
    also the -40 opinion is a bit to harsh.
    I really hope they work on that as it's a real pain to manage "powerful vassals" when most of them are not even powerful, and they demand seats on the council despite
    having either shit traits or there being no more space.

    • @PartyElite
      @PartyElite  4 роки тому +1

      "powerful" is determined by their strength compared to each other, iirc. So if one guy makes more money and raises more troops than another, they expect preferential treatment because they're "kind of a big deal" compared to the other guy

No suddenly just racing through menus unexplained or jumping around at what the maker notices; but, a consistent level of information covered with purpose and delivered with relevant provisos. Played as Duke in in Italy, went on war yolo cuz it seemed suggested, bit sussy that it was mostly suggested again muslims, like Ali, i guess they were invaders of south Italy, and mby same strenght. Guess what happened, Ali got friend to chime in beat the f out of me 😂, i had to get my daughter be married to king of Hungary, we still lost 😂. Called him few times, his back is probably broken now. Ali danning, saying fell the wrath and justice of Allah (lowk conflicted since fam muslim) 😂. That was fun. Then later on my brother who is vassal, wife look at me bit weird, suggestion box asking homie to make a movie, stay quiet or snitch on the bich 🤣, guess what i did? I cheated with her 😈, later on a idior snitched on me , and blackmailed me. He snitched, DRAMA happened , like its turkish show, then i went on war against the snitch cause snitches get stiches 😂, i invited Hungarian homie. Guess what happened, yet another loss in war lol. This game be hilarious and hard, love it. Later on i got detrowned, my son became heir, i believe he got killed in sleep..😅 Yeah lol. I read many turorials now, its alot. Now Im about to watch this with choco 🍫. Thank you, its a needed video ❤😂. I bet could make for a more fullfilling and more enjoyable experience in this adventure. 🌊🌈✨

    Religious taxes are way higher than anything else. This depends on your religion too. Tribes don't have many temples but you can swap the head. Actually, if you can't control them they still give up to 50% of the taxes and 100% of the levies if they like you 50+ so religious part is really really important.
    The best way to impress powerful vassals is to choose them and breed them yourself. You got to choose the council from the vassals you got. This excludes the ones that are in your kingdom but isn't in your direct vassal list. When you grant lands, you can sort based on skills, and take over a vassal from others, and then use in council. If you can make them a duke, then he will be powerful, he will hold a council position, and he will like you. Prevent breeding stock from ever being a knight. Give each powerful vassal a style: one will be a diplomat, one will be a steward, depending on religion you can't choose the bishop so don't have learning-focused powerful vassal, you can have multiple martial focused since they die and not an issue to get another, they can train themselves. lastly, you can have intrigue focused ones, but you can also keep in court and family, training girls, nieces and lovers to be good spymasters. this way I managed to get 3 generations of perfect stewards and even train my own kids to be perfect stewards using a council I put in position. If you can choose their wives, it's all the better, like marry court members to family members or good stat girls with their focus, then give them land. This means a healthy government is your holdings, plus 3 dukes, 4th duchy maybe for the spies. I found it bad to breed spymasters, since they can kill you if they hate you, and increases the crime rates and adultery, and it's annoying, low intrigue people will commit less crimes and this is something that goes down in families, culture and country. Just try to get a wife with 30 diplomacy skill and focus on diplomacy, all your kids will have 8+ diplomacy very early in their life, and a lot of kids will have good diplomacy education. Same goes for martial or stewardship or any other skill.
    Stop the game in January and assign guardians for every kid in your court that is 6+, and every kid in your powerful vassal's court (offer guardian). This sounds like a lot of trouble but the base is 50-50 that the kids get 2 points each year, with a guardian is 60-40. With a genius educator, the chance goes up by 15 points (base is 60 points 40 points, from there comes a lot of calculations). it's a bit complex but 15 points are around 5-6% better chance that the kid will be smarter each year. genius is 15 points, intelligent 10 points, quick and shrewd 5 points. then each point in the focus area is 0.4 points (20 martial is 8 points, 30 is 12 so a genius is still better) and 0.2 from learning. So 20 martial 10 learning is better than 10 martial 26 learning if you want a good martial education (holy order leaders are generally the best at that). But 15 martial 10 learning is worse than 10 martial 25 learning. One small boost is if they got a spouse or are in the council, they will have a bit more skill than others who don't, and lastly, their traits might influence the kid.
    This is why your number one choice is yourself, you can boost your traits with your wife. Second, best is your wife. The third is council members. It's a free opinion boost with the bishop to offer a ward, and that gives extra bonus for both of them to like each other and to like you. As I said learning is half the weight of the focus, so you want a high stat young bishop. As long as he has 20 learning and 10 in something else, he will be able to train that too. High learning is also good for physicians so you can employ your bishop as a physician or your wife. You don't have to offer your heir to the bishop, any courtier kid will do, just for the opinion boost. actually, you can repeat that by offering kids close to 16. You can do this as a kid ruler waiting to become 16, the bishop does not endorse you, and you can't sway him but you can offer wards and get re-wards :P
    You can also change focus once, so it's worth taking wards for yourself just to change their focus then drop them and give a good educator in that area, you can do this with courtiers, family members, but you can only do it with vassal kids if you are their mentor. Don't let girls go martial or intrigue focus, and don't let anyone go learning focus (if you are a Christian). You won't be able to give a council position to a girl marshall if she is crap at it, but she will demand it and hate you for it. You won't be able to kill off a girl marshal too often as she won't command armies all the time, while if a male asks for the marshall, you force him to die. it's the only area you can have competition so you want a lot of male marshalls. Maybe it sounds a bit sexist, but you will understand what I mean when every time your liberation war has a girl marshall as a leader :D
    the exact numbers are 0-6/7-10/11-14/14+ for each education. they got 2 points each year, 6 to 16 and it's a coinflip. I think 3 star is good enough, but 4 star is amazing. in 40 years that 10% stacks up and really shows in skills, so I prefer a high education councillor over a high stat one. They will be better educators themselves. Meanwhile, 2-star education is real bad and won't make them anything ever, the flat bonus is not that much but 10% bonus is over a few years. Makes the game way better if your powerful vassals aren't full idiots.

    Paradox should be paying you! The CK3 tutorial is next to useless and really badly integrated. It isn’t even self contained, as soon as you get to the war section and have to unpause the game, the game actually starts even though technically you’re still in the tutorial. Suddenly there’s all these pop ups and things happening and I’m like “wait how do I move my army again, what’s all this mean?!”. Without this vid I might have given up. Thanks!
