All of my Guides: ua-cam.com/play/PLDLBnN-W_m2lcnvAQ1e6hvu7GnHJnRQF4.html Thank you so much for watching! I apologize if the video feels a little "slow" so you might need to put it on 1.25x speed because I didn't want to speak too fast and lose anyone. I intend to cover a lot more Crusader Kings in the future and I'm really excited to do so. If you haven't picked up the game, you can grab it through my link here: www.nexus.gg/italianspartacus . Hey when you say end date does that mean the game will end and can not be played an further? Or will techs stop and thw game just enters sand box mode or something. New to the series and your videos are a great help just like bannerlord
I actually thought your cadence was perfect. Much easier to digest that way. Also appreciate the markers on the time. Now that I’ve consumed the entire video, if I need a refresher I can jump to that section thanks to the time stamp.
same.. i changed my religion.. mistakes were made because as soon as i did 5 different people just were like YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK YOU and just all declared a holy war.. i fought off like 2 of them.. but then i just got swamped 😂
Yeah I was working my way through Ireland. Locked down Meath, Leinister about to make a move on Osmond and that punk petty King in Thommond when for some reason my dudes allies show up and I got stomped. I do like how you can recover though.
Right? I would argue this game sets you up for failure and leads you to believe your focus should be conquest above all else and doesnt even go in to detail about any game mechanic that is super important to realm management. I would describe the tutorial as "Talks a lot but says nothing."
My first campaign so far: Went to one of those genealogy websites to see how far back I could trace some of my actual ancestry (relatives had a membership). Found my 27th Great Grandfather is some dude named "William FitzWilliam of Bréteuïl" which was in the normandy region. Found a character named "William" in Normandy and went "That'll work." Start the game. "Wait... why do I have a pressed claim on the entire kingdom of England?" Made some allies, called in a few favors, siege sussex and most of southern england, win my first war, enforce demands. "You are now known as William The Conqueror" ".... oh."
HAHAH well, that's one way to really dive into the roots of your ancestry: take over their ancestral claims to the kingdom of England!! I'm only second generation Italian so the lineage back to Italy is still pretty in tact, but I'd laugh my ass off if I had something like: "Marco? We had someone in the family named Marco, that's dumb, what was his last name?" ".... Polo?" "... Oh.." ".. Yeah.." Thanks so much for watching man, i love your work too, it's an honor to have you on the channel and watching along! Hit me up some time! Love to just shoot the shit with ya.
HA! Thanks! I've seen some of your stuff before and rediscovered you whilst looking into CKIII and had no idea you were aware of me or my work XD Fantastic work btw I've owned CKII for probably close to a decade now and only ever had a few hours of bloody play time because I could never fully wrap my head around it, so trying to give it all another go with CKIII has been fun and your content has been incredibly informative in making that happen ;D
Oh man.. I played CK2 and just absolutely shit the bed. I could never get my head around it proper and it was so frustrating for me. Even getting into CK3, I was getting SO angry, but I was determined to not let it get the best of me. I'm glad I can help man. I've got a video coming out soon about making money as that seems to be a big hold up for people, so hopefully that will help as well!! :D Absolutely I've seen your work! I've always wanted to become a voice actor and I grew up watching tons of anime (still do) so I get to see what a voice actor does with their freak talent and ability by watching your videos. It's very entertaining :)
unfortunately i have no clue of my ancestry that far back.. my family is too mixed to really determine that.. so i just went for some random vassal that was still relatively young and he ended up living till like 80 years old.. his son and heir had already died (god knows how he died though) so when he died his 7 year old granddaughter took over.. she had like 10 kids by the age of 30 technically 11 but one died. i became a vassal to this old woman and i guess that when she died my holdings were just wiped off the map.. that sucked
One note on stress: Don't worry about it if your king is old. You'll get stressed, die and your son will inherit all the goodies you "bought" with your stressful life, and have no stress himself. Consider stress more of a currency you can spend, rather than a negative metric you want to keep as low as possible. Obviously, you don't want your 25 year old king having a mental breakdown, but if you're 60 and at stress level 2, you're probably on a good track.
Man that's an awesome way of looking at it. Thank you. I keep viewing it as something I need to zero out vs. A resource towards the end of a character's life
I agree with this. I had an amazing character who had a great “innings”, as soon as I got the “dying” notification, I threw caution to the wind and got that stress level up.
I just want you to know that 2 years later this is still an incredible video. I had to stop myself from launching the game like 5 times to make sure I got all your information first. Thank you.
As soon as I saw my lunatic ruler can call down the taxidermist to stuff his dead son and keep him in the throne room as a morbid way of refusing to accept his death, I knew I was gonna love this game 😂😂😂
@ And it wasn't even my idea. Suddenly out of nowhere my character is saying "I've noticed my daughter has become a very fine-looking young woman. Is it right to feel that way about my own daughter?" So I opened up the options and sure enough it had 'Seduce' and 'Romance'. I was playing a viking at the time.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful and well paced video. Some people say watch "let's plays" to learn the game. But most of those are talking, clicking and scrolling around the map so fast that I learn nothing about game play. But your videos are in depth and informative. I learn to play "TW Three Kingdoms" from you and that increased my enjoyment of the game tremendously. Looking forward to more videos on CK3!
Thank you very much for the compliment and for watching man! I did a let's play of the Norman campaign that I take VERY slow and the audience (its live streamed) actually helps me through some mechanics. So if you want to watch that, you can see me just get brutalized by the game the entire time hahaha
This is the best tutorial I’ve come across for this game. It’s so clear and it covers a lot of ground efficiently. Just got into this game a week ago, I love it. Thanks so much for this video!
After watching this I'm applying to be a NASA astronaut and then finish my medical degree, take my BAR exam, and then invent a new mathematical equation.
Hey man. Great video. I work professionally with communication. Your video is *not* slow. Or rather: People who think it is slow, will probably accept this more easy than if you were yabbing through everything. You have a great narration voice. And also: Please PLEASE do a video in inheritance. It is so confusing, but I am sure I would understand it, if you told me. Peace out!
Thanks so much for this great tutorial. I really struggle with making gold in the game, eventually I just give up because I just can't seem to get anything done without gold.
I’m glad I found you. I spent some time in the tutorial and was still really lost. I feel like I learned more from you in the first five minutes than my time in the official tutorial.
aww man thank you so much, very kind of you. I have a succession laws video going up tomorrow morning, but if you still need help, please check out my friends PartyElite and HForHavoc, they've been playing the game like CRAZY and are familiar with the series with their own tutorials! :D
To anyone else who, like me, just started playing CK for the first time on release day: I would HIGHLY recommend trying Novgorod in 867 start. I've played a few other campaigns and the tutorial but always got my ass handed to me; Novgorod was the first time everything kind of "clicked" for me. Surrounded by relatively weak or similar neighbors, lots of good opportunities for alliances, raiding, and you can start (relatively) small but work your way up from duchy to kingdom within a couple decades. Hope this helps some of the other noobs like me lol
@@betterdonotanswer The Sofia First Chronicle mentions it in 859, the Novgorod First Chronicle mentions it in 862, and the Charter of Veliky Novgorod also mentions 859 as the first mention of Novgorod. It was well established at that point as well in terms of trade and contact with the Varangians.
@@betterdonotanswer They are derived from a common source and are historical documentation. They corroborate other sources and each other, despite having different sources and being from different time periods… Also, Novgorod existed under Rurik in the 800s, with Oleg being recorded as Rurik’s successor as the king of Novgorod.
What a fantastic resource, i’m at the beginning and can’t wait to dive in. I’ve watched intro-level guides but your flow is the best for capturing how I think when playing the game. Setting up all these pieces, understanding what i’m trying to do, and knowing how to achieve those things I want. Thanks so much for the content.
man thank you so much. i was afraid this would be a little slow, but i wanted to take it easy and allow people to jump back to points if they really needed it spelled out. i also recorded it at like... 1am so i'm audibly quite sleepy in the voice over hahahah
I think it works for the viewer who will be seeking this type of information out because it really is about slow soaking it all to feel comfortable in your own playthrough. It’s funny you suggest potentially bumping the speed - I often find myself watching CKIII videos on .75 lol. cheers
Incredible that you did this video in one take. Thank you, Paradox games have such brutal learning curves. I've been playing them for years and barely understand how they work.
Hahahah thank you. All my guides I write down some notes and just hit record. It's much easier for me to be free flowing with this format than scripted! Glad I could help my dude
@ItalianSpartacus There are some things that you didnt get quite right. Let me correct them for you: 1. Spouse is not adding points to your council, but to you. She does not affect the council by any means, but if she has some good stats she often can give you a positive (or if she has bad stats negative) events in which you gain some extra money, prestige, piety or opinion, or just temporary perks that affect your domain. They are usualy consistent with her lifestyle focus, choices and her traits. Spouse with high Stewardship will sometimes spawn events in which you gain additional money or perks that improve targeted county's development or tax income, one with high Diplomacy will raise opinion of you amongst your court and vassals and so on and so forth. 2. You said that Learning stat affects Court Phisicians ability to heal, which of there is no indicator in the game or in the tooltips, so I wouldn't be so sure about that. As far as I noticed the only thing that affect Court Phisician is his Physician trait, as it has a health boost on the tooltip and it says so in the trait decription. 3. You said that Development is not that nescessary, which is HUGE missconception. It is extremely important to have high development in your counties as county's development quickens development in neighboring counties. And the reason you need high development is because the higher Average Development of the counties within your culture group, the quicker you unlock new Innovations that help your domain in staying ahead techonologically compared to your opponents. I know that it seems not that crucial, but the more time I spend with the game the more important it gets (you can't have primogeniture succesion if you dont have certain Innovation, you cant adopt feudal way as a tribe without having all innovations in Tribal Age unlocked, you cant build certain buildings that gives you more tax and levies without proper technology). In short, Developent is EXTREMELY important, and If you dont convert cultures, have your steward improve development in one of your counties, the gains from that are FAR greater then couple % more tax income.
Dude this is huge. Thank you so much. I'm sorry for getting this wrong. Can you help me out a bit with the wife. So she directly adds her skill to yours (based off that number in the upper right of course) right? Then that gives me the passive bonuses to the skills as needed?
@@italianspartacus Its okay, dont mention it :) This game is extremely convoluted and some things aren't as obvious as they would seem at the first glance. Exactly, If you have Assist Ruler in Council tab picked for the spouse, you get 20% of all her skills added to yours, If you pick a specialized stat, ull get 50% of this one stat added to yours. You can see that effect if you put your mouse over ur stats in Character screen . It's a great way to fix the shortcomings of the ruler as well, If you have shitty ruler with some bad stats, you can fix that by having a wife with good stats, or If your ruler have for example a very bad intrigue stat you can fix that by setting ur spouse to help him/her with that and it will fix that for you. @ABDULLAH JABBAR You need the Royal Prerogative innovation from Early Ages (you can start unlocking it from 900AD and if you have at least 10 innovations in tribal era, as long as you are your culture's culture head).
ItalianSpartacus you get to choose what your wife’s stats go towards. By default she “assists the ruler” , giving your ruler a small boost to all his stats based on hers, but you can use the drop down menu to have her assist any specific council member you like.
This has been so helpful, my friends and I have jumped into a few games so far but it never ends well hahaha. The timestamps on this video and the pace is perfect so I can go over bits I don't really understand, and skip bits I do. Thanks!
this game is super in-depth and consequently i found myself a bit overwhelmed when i first started playing (my only experience with paradox games is stellaris, which has a *significantly* lower learning curve) and losing interest quickly out of frustration. thank you for your videos, they're definitely filling in a lot of the gaps in my understanding of the game mechanics, so i'm finding the playthroughs steadily more enjoyable as i keep booting up new campaigns
@@italianspartacus you should set up a patreon or some equivalent if you don't have one already; this is truly a masterpiece of a game and the videos you're churning out provide invaluable guidance on how to properly learn the ropes. I know for a fact that a lot of people would love this game if they had a concrete grasp on the mechanics that govern it
Hehe it should be linked at the end of the video and I have another video coming out tomorrow, with three more in the hopper! I love explaining things like this so it's a real joy of mine! I love seeing how I'm helping people break into it because I was SOOO frustrated in the beginning man hahaha
Just wanted to point out that you can choose perks from any tree you want, regardless of lifestyle focus. For example, you don't have to choose the strategy focus to go down the strategist tree. Any focus will give access to all three trees within the chosen lifestyle.
I’ve been learning the game by floundering, and while frustrating at first, it feels super good to finally be able to build some kind of decently reasonable empire.
i feel ur pain game looks good i really want to buy it, I too struggle with these types of games but long to want to learn, its 20% off costing $39 bucks and think if I should wait for they to lower it a bit more but who knows when that will be I have 91/2 hours to decide🤔 to buy or pass for the time being
So helpful! I appreciate that you take time to actually click through and show us how to execute the tasks you're discussing. And I'm really looking forward to the succession video!
@@italianspartacus The future of the Empire of Britannia rests in your ability to explain the complexities of succession succinctly and clearly. No biggie. :)
30:02 For anyone wondering where these numbers come from, they're her skills divided by 5, rounded down. This is an awesome video for beginners, looking forward for the future more in-depth ones!
Tried playing Count of Montague because the game said he'd be "easy". Managed to conquer Léon before being assassinated and then immediately torn apart. Lasted maybe ten years.
Man I wish I had found this 10 hours ago. I have just been stumblng around randomly getting my butt kicked. This is better than the tutorial. I wish I could go back and buy through the affiliated link to support you. Thanks so much
I think the tutorial needs to be voice acted. I know that can be tedious sometimes because they go TOO slow when they narrate, but it needs direct call outs and pointing to things.. and then linking the concepts together so that you have a frame of reference. It's the best tutorial for any CK, which is saying a lot, but it still needs a BIT more! don't you even worry about the purchase link, I'm just happy it helped! :)
Wasn't all too confident about getting CK3 due to its complexity (and not having played a PC game in nearly 2 decades); but after watching your video, I'll be downloading this game today! Thank you for making it so accessible. I appreciate you.
Thank you for the Time stamps. I know you’re not the most experienced CK3 player ... but I appreciate the guide and it is a refresher of the tutorial and other stuff I missed / forgot about
Even though I thought this was for CK 2 when I hit play I do have CK 3 and just wanted to say that you are a gem of an instructor. Your voice and cadence is perfect for those of us that need someone to stay on focus and speak slower and clearly but with some personality so we don't fall asleep. I am approaching senior years and while I did well in the game when CK 2 was released I am very lost now and fast very animated talkers are hard to follow. Anyway... I wish you much success on UA-cam!
Much better explained and clearly communicated than all other youtube videos so far. A complex deep game indeed...needs someone like Italian Spartacus to explain this.
Looking good! Remember newcomers, it's okay to have a campaign go horribly wrong, it's part of the learning process, and later on... an unexpected feature of the game. The best stories have nadirs, they make the apex that much more satisfying.
I just want to give a huge thank you here, sir. In all my time of gaming, especially strategy gaming, I can honestly say I have never seen such a thorough, well-put-together, and informative beginner tutorial. I stopped, and abandoned the first campaign I started in order to watch this video, knowing I would have a better grip on things in my second and subsequent plays. Massive kudos to you, my friend! And thank you again.
You came out with this video the very day I purchased the game and had the most concise polished overview that I've found on here. You have a new subscriber. Thanks man
I decided to skip the tutorial and figure out things on the way. Started playing as Vratislav of Bohemia, part of the Holy Roman Empire. After learning the controls and everything I noticed my son had a claim on the whole of Hungary. I won the war and gave Hungary to my son. Then the Emperor of the HRE decided to take Hungary away from my son and give it to some King Solomon. I won the second war with Hungary (just buy mercenaries and you can win any war with ease. Lol. I’m in very deep debt). After I became ruler of Bohemia and Hungary I noticed I had 5 electoral votes in the “Who gets to be the next Emperor of the HRE.” And I voted for myself, and I won. Now, on my first play through I control the entirety of the Holy Roman Empire... very good friends and ally’s with Sweden and Norway. Hated by the Pope. But hey, I just rigged the system. Lmao.
Outstanding Guide. For those that are looking at the 1hr+ time.......... beleive me it's worth it. I got so frustrated playing that I then decided to take the hour. If someone had said to watch it earlier I would have. Great work buddy.
A slight correction regarding implicit claims: these are claims that heirs have for their living parents' currently held titles. Though all of the parents' heirs may have an implicit gain for a specific title held by one of the parents, only one will inherit it when that parent dies, and the rest of the heirs trade the implicit claim to that title for a pressed claim. A parent's pressed claims are NOT implicit claims for the heirs- only titles that the parent holds are implicit claims for the child. The parents pressed claims don't show up for the child at all while the parent is still alive, and once the parent dies the child inherits them as unpressed claims.
@@rollercoaster478 No, but if you go to war for an unpressed claim, it refreshes into a pressed claim (whether or not you win said war), which IS inheritable
@@Joostmhw 1. kids all get implicit claims on their alive parents actual titles that they hold. When that parent dies, his heirs divide the titles, the rest of the kids (women usually) get pressed claims on those titles, because they didnt inherit shit. 2. If the parents had pressed claims, then kids will inherit those claims but they will be downgraded to an unpressed claim. That works for all kids, no matter the gender. 3. If the parent has an unpressed claim, kids will not inherit that claim, because unpressed claims are legally not strong and dont inherit. So if you have an unpressed claim and you want your kids to have that claim, you have to declare war, because if you get White Peace in that war , it will become a pressed claim. But if you Surrrender that war then you lose the unpressed claim, and your kids wont inherit it. 4. I will add that your grandkids dont get implicit claims on your titles, there are situations where it can matter, for example if your heir dies, and then your character dies, then your perfect grandkid might not inherit anything, but it all depends on Inheritance Laws I think, so just be careful about that, always check the Line of Succession by clicking on the title you want to check under your characters profile, then click Line of Succession
I paused this video 19 minutes in to just say thank you. I just bought this game after playing Civ for years and I was so lost even after two tutorial play throughs so again thanks!
As someone that’s just started playing this on Xbox, these videos are really helping, I used to play games like this 20 years ago on PC and It’s good to get back into it and see how far they have come. Easy listening and a great narrator. Thanks.
Getting back into CK3 after buying a new PC, so relearning how to play. Out of all of the CK3 guides on UA-cam, I feel like this video series is the most enjoyable and informative to listen and watch. Thanks a ton!
I'm finding making checklists helps, especially when new to the game. Reminds me of things to look at as I go. I build a pretty extensive one for each game I play, and it definitely evolves over time.
Hey Brett, I’m checking comments to see if I can find any pearls - what kind of check list do you make? As a new player this might actually be a great idea, I feel I either get a little buried or get to involved on one thing - and really just don’t stay on track - any suggestions would be appreciated! Cheers 🍻
I know its 2 years later, but just getting into the game now this has helped me not only learn the game, but appreciate the little things I missed, huge props to you man! now on to watch the other vids!
In my last play through I decided to challenge myself by starting out in a remote corner of Mongolia. Rather than focusing on an early alliance I figured at that I could just conquer as much as I could, limit myself to a single male heir, and have the daughters married off to spread some of those good genes around. Since I only had 400 development points it was only a few, but I managed. My son inherited beautiful, pure blooded, fecund, and hale. I married him off to a girl who had the best intelligence trait and I was really hoping to get something out of that. Boy was I wrong. Anyway, I was pretty modest at first but then I somehow became Genghis Khan fairly early actually and I unlock the Mongolian horde. Suddenly my troops increased from the few thousand I was able to muster to nearly 40,000! I was not expecting that and I naturally took full advantage of it and conquered all of Mongolia like it was nothing. Even better I got a variant of the kingdom attacking ability that I can use repeatedly it did not take long. But here is where I made my mistake. I ventured outside of the Empire boundaries of Mongolia. I wanted to carve a path towards the third holy site so I could reform the religion. What I should have done is stuck to the Empire boundaries and focus on increasing control and happiness before I died. I was doing great until I suddenly died and then immediately after starting as my heir the heir suddenly died as well. Turns out one of my grandsons had plotted a double murder, which would have been smart and historically accurate if only that put him next in line for the throne. But no, that's not what happened. It put my heir's daughter on the throne because I died before him. If he died before me that would actually have placed him into a position of inheritance. Then I find out that the little girl I'm now playing as wasn't even really my granddaughter. She only inherited the genius trait of her mother and she did not have any of my physical features. So, basically, my epic reading plan failed. However, there were still people around that had those traits and some of them were still of the genuine family house because I spread my genes far and wide so I figured I would make the best of it. And that's where my other mistake came to bite me. Due to the fact that I had a fair chunk of the surrounding Empires there was too much ground to cover when the rebels attacked and they came from everywhere simultaneously. And I didn't get a predecessor opinion bonus because my predecessor died within seconds of taking throne so suffice to say that campaign ended miserably. Still, it was memorable. The lessons I learned was to not try to take everything in your first generation, don't even let your daughter's sons survive to adulthood, and that the Mongolian horde is awesome to control. I do wish that the Mechanics for Rebels were just a little bit different. They come out of everywhere with numbers far greater than any army I can muster and a typically do it only when I'm otherwise engaged in battle with a foreign power.
These videos are so great! I just started the game after years of putting off diving in, but at last my willpower broke and I’m so grateful to have this guide enabling me.
Just started CK3 after weeks of watching videos. Playing as Petty King Murchad in the tutorial. Going well. Married into an alliance with Aquitaine. Great ally. I get some more claims, take Dublin. Start my next claim on the duchy below it, the south of Ireland will be mine, and I can immediately press my claim on half of half of Connacht. Until someone calls for my help. It’s Aquitaine. And you know what they did? DECLARED INDEPENDENCE FROM FRANCE!!! I can’t decline this, I’ll lose like 350 fame, and I don’t know how significant that is. So I take all 2k or so of my troops and sail to France in a pointless war I don’t care about instead of pressing my claims and securing my rule as king of Ireland LIKE I SHOULD BE. IT’S BEEN YEARS. I’LL BE DEAD BEFORE I EVEN CLAIM SOUTHERN IRELAND!!!!…Also, found out my bishop is a sodomite.
I play as him all the time 1 dont get powerful allies to early hes pretty powerful attack ur weaker neighbors and after ur strong enough attack the petty kingdom next to england and once u win swear fealty to england and u can take as much of ireland as u want and after that get independence and create ireland and be the king
These grand strategy game publishers should really just contract you to make these guides. Some of the best and most thorough new player guides I've found yet.
You are seriously the GOAT I am so thankful for this. Could you maybe go in a little bit on control? How do you impact it besides granting it to someone else or moving your marshal there? It seems like the game wants you to expand early but then any land you take is low control so then I have no levies or taxes. Any tips?
I have watched the majority of your guides and want to say thank you because I did not have a clue how to play this game based on the in-game tutorial alone. I completed 2 play throughs before watching your guides on youtube (this is my first time playing crusader kings). The first 2 campaigns did not go so well. I watched most of your tutorial videos and then started another campaign with Ireland on Ironman. I am now really close to forming an Empire! It is all thanks to your videos. I really appreciate them and hope you keep them coming. And to anyone who is new to CK, I highly recommend ItalianSparticus’ guides.
please check out my buddy HforHavoc then! he knows FAR more than me and he has tons of great info! Here's all of his CK3 tutorials :) ua-cam.com/play/PLUTG4aQjaZ2ERwm4WoTIvl2E47QeBP0ld.html
Once you get a feel of it, which in my opinion watching this vid alone will be enough to start an easy campaign and learn more through actual playtime. I personally suck at any strategy game and I did pretty good with the tutorial knowledge alone haha. Don't think too much and start havin fun with it bruh 😃
@@RighteousMr Shut a rich and rewarding experience. I'm working my way up to be king all the videos paid off and when I go back and rewatch I understand what they are talking about more fav game in the world right now...
Despite it being 2 years old, I found this more helpfull than more recent guides. Good move choosing Poland as a vehicle to expand on, as compared to the Irish which I saw in other vids.
Really great guide, helped a lot. Watching the buffoon I call my chancellor completely piss off the entirety of Ireland every 6 months was quite incredible.
This is absolutely the best way to break it down for a new player. I am a seasoned strategy gamer but this game is next! Knew this would be the place to come so bought with the Fanatical link
I've watched a good few hours of guides on this game on my channels, these guides are by far the clearest most in depth and superior to all others, thanks for your efforts.
What I've found difficult it just starting off as a random character lower down the food chain. I understand the concept of the mechanics, but it's not long into the game when I've been raided or invaded while the liege is happy to watch if there is one, and there seems no way forward. Taking on the Munster/Ireland character it's just much easier, I'm slightly stronger than the neighbours so it feels a lot easier to build up some land.
Tbh, I learned how to play CKIII so much more than the tutorial taught me. This video helped basically keep it both detailed and "Engaging" for lack of better words.
In 867 you're in the Early Medieval Period... not "tribal period" (in fact you could still go back a couple of hundreds of years and it would still be considered "Early Medieval Period", it's the Dark Ages... straight after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. In 1066 you're just before the First Crusade (1096) and right after the Church Schism which resulted in Orthodox and Catholic (1054).
My History grade is going to rise a full letter...retroactively because I left school 35 years ago lol. This game is SO involved! Thanks for taking the time to walk us through this!
I have to second that recommendation to start as Dublin. I did that and married my son to a welsh daughter given me a strong alliance just across the sea. I then married the rest of my kids to various Irish nobles given me an alliance with some of the other Irish fiefdoms. My father died and I inherited his land in Leinster and then invaded my neighbors and then created the duchy of meath. I have the strongest army thanks the martial abilities of Earl Murchad and can easily take all of Ireland
How did you manage once Earl Murchad perished? My first campaign was about the same until Earl of Murchad passed and my titles got divided amongst the heirs.
When I saw I could play ck3 on my Xbox for free with my game pass I figured why not I'll try it. When I first picked it up I was lost and the tutorial didn't help. I thought I was going to put down the game but u figured I'd look up some tutorials on UA-cam. You're was the first I picked up and after watching several of you videos and several frustrating restarts I finally pulled through and created the kingdom of Ireland. I'm finally having a good campaign and I'd have to say it's in thanks to your guild's, thanks for making them!
i love this video it explains everything so clearly but always leaves room for the actual exprrience. i hate "guides" where its not really a guide and ends up being a strict order of what to do and what to avoid. videos like this that leave room to explore for yourself especially for a game where there is not one right way to play make me incredible happy. I know i will learn things best by just playing but this video set me up and prepared me perfectly. it helped a lot thanks!!!
This video and the last one on the playlist have given me thee BEST 2 pieces of advice I've seen so far (and I've watched A LOT of guides): 1) the action lock on the tool tip 2) do the tutorial I watched these last night before I went to sleep and when I started playing today I was at just over 30 hours playing. I started over and did the tutorial and OH MY GODS THANK YOU!!! I thought after all the guides and playthroughs I've watched that I was pretty ready to go, but there's so many of the smaller things youtube guides don't tell you (ummm I guess cause they expect noobs like me to do the tutorial? lol go figure). I was already pumped on this game but now I'm even more excited to start over again on a new campaign tomorrow. Liked commented subscribed! Thank you again!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! OMG I did the tutorial and I was still so lost and I tried just jumping into a game and everything just started going horribly wrong. This is what I needed!
Thank you This game is really cruel if you don't know what you're doing , my whole kingdom got deleted by great pox , just saying lol i had the worst physician i could have , well is part of the fun having challenges but what a awesome game this is to dive into
This was so helpful. 😭 Way more in depth than the tutorial. I couldn't figure out the military part and I kept going in debt. Not to mention my family tree is more like a family wreath. 🤦🏻♀️
I've been wanting to get into this game for years. Love the channel. I can just listen to you play the game all day bro, great channel. Your pacing is perfect. Audio is perfect. If you're not a teacher you should be
get a physician he said... ok got one, then i got sick, and the doc propose me 2 option, a safe one but take long time, or a quick one but risky, i choose quick one, i died. well at least am not sick anymore and it was quick
@@jacobperez7329 Regarding mods, I had no issue using the Steam Workshop to both find and download mods, but I am not sure if this is the best place for them. Paradox does offer a DLC for Crusader Kings 2 that lets you build your own ruler, though I don't know what exactly it does and doesn't let you do (never played CK2). I don't know if there are DLC that allow you make your own culture/religion. That was more of an expression of hope regarding future options :)
CK3 is probably the best game in the Paradox strategy saga. It brings lots of depth, more than Stellaris for sure and the roleplaying is available but optional. Traits add decisions or give a penalty of stress when going against it, but you can still go against it if you want. I highly recommend getting it and looking at getting the dlc pass that saves you some bucks on the first 3 dlc (2 minor and 1 larger than other Paradox dlc ((allegedly))). Ruler creator is coming and appears to be either free or the first minor dlc I’m not sure. You can find the article on the ck3 thread on steam though.

Thank you so much for watching!
It’s perfectly paced imo great job
YESSSSS!!!! Keep them coming!
I actually thought your cadence was perfect. Much easier to digest that way. Also appreciate the markers on the time. Now that I’ve consumed the entire video, if I need a refresher I can jump to that section thanks to the time stamp.
I put it on .50 speed and you sound wasted XD
1 hour tutorial and he is willing to help people in the comments what a chad have a like and sub
Hahahaha thanks brother! :)
I’ve done the the tutorial now 3 times lol and I still feel like I don’t know what I’m doing! Thanks for the video
absolutely man! it just takes a long time to get underneath the mechanics but once they click.. THEY CLICK!! :)
Conquered Ireland and still feel I have no idea what I'm doing or what's next. Just fabricate claims and raise armies over and over...
Attila 22 eventually there will be succession crisis and unruly vassals etc.
@@attila2246 If it makes you feel better, the people who actually conquered Ireland probably felt the same way.
Yo.. I thought I was the only one 😅
Plays the Tutorial: Hmmm...okay. I think I get it. This is fun. Starts up my first campaign: Drowning in my own blood and deposed 45 minutes later.
This was me
Lol same here. I died in my first battle and so did my heir. GG 😂
same.. i changed my religion.. mistakes were made because as soon as i did 5 different people just were like YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK YOU and just all declared a holy war.. i fought off like 2 of them.. but then i just got swamped 😂
My first campaign so far:
Went to one of those genealogy websites to see how far back I could trace some of my actual ancestry (relatives had a membership).
Found my 27th Great Grandfather is some dude named "William FitzWilliam of Bréteuïl" which was in the normandy region.
Found a character named "William" in Normandy and went "That'll work."
Start the game.
"Wait... why do I have a pressed claim on the entire kingdom of England?"
Made some allies, called in a few favors, siege sussex and most of southern england, win my first war, enforce demands.
"You are now known as William The Conqueror"
".... oh."
HAHAH well, that's one way to really dive into the roots of your ancestry: take over their ancestral claims to the kingdom of England!! I'm only second generation Italian so the lineage back to Italy is still pretty in tact, but I'd laugh my ass off if I had something like:
"Marco? We had someone in the family named Marco, that's dumb, what was his last name?"
".... Polo?"
"... Oh.."
".. Yeah.."
Thanks so much for watching man, i love your work too, it's an honor to have you on the channel and watching along! Hit me up some time! Love to just shoot the shit with ya.
HA! Thanks! I've seen some of your stuff before and rediscovered you whilst looking into CKIII and had no idea you were aware of me or my work XD
Fantastic work btw
I've owned CKII for probably close to a decade now and only ever had a few hours of bloody play time because I could never fully wrap my head around it, so trying to give it all another go with CKIII has been fun and your content has been incredibly informative in making that happen ;D
Absolutely I've seen your work! I've always wanted to become a voice actor and I grew up watching tons of anime (still do) so I get to see what a voice actor does with their freak talent and ability by watching your videos. It's very entertaining :)
unfortunately i have no clue of my ancestry that far back.. my family is too mixed to really determine that.. so i just went for some random vassal that was still relatively young and he ended up living till like 80 years old.. his son and heir had already died (god knows how he died though) so when he died his 7 year old granddaughter took over.. she had like 10 kids by the age of 30 technically 11 but one died. i became a vassal to this old woman and i guess that when she died my holdings were just wiped off the map.. that sucked
almost united africa 3 cheating wives in a row some rando inherited everything got frustrated now here i am
One note on stress:
Don't worry about it if your king is old.
A resource towards the end of a character's life
Works in real life too
I agree with this. I had an amazing character who had a great “innings”, as soon as I got the “dying” notification, I threw caution to the wind and got that stress level up.
@@jamiecook4288 hell yeah! He's gonna be dead next year, who cares if he has a mental breakdown!!!
@@tomwallen7271 one last dash for some sweet sweet gold. Haha.
I just want you to know that 2 years later this is still an incredible video. I had to stop myself from launching the game like 5 times to make sure I got all your information first. Thank you.
My pleasure brother!! :)
As soon as I saw my lunatic ruler can call down the taxidermist to stuff his dead son and keep him in the throne room as a morbid way of refusing to accept his death, I knew I was gonna love this game 😂😂😂
I married my own daughter!
@@RolandDeschain1 Something to be proud of mate.
"Pressed claims" nick.
I know I'm late but my queen Character became a sadistic lust murder and killed 5 men in bed...
You should try starting with Denmark in 1066
Blown away by the quality and in-depth knowledge in this video. So useful, and exactly what I was looking for to jump into this game.
hahah thank you very much man, glad it helped you out :)
Pretty sure someone could spoon feed me like a little helpless baby and I still wouldn't understand anything about this game.
Watch my streams - people do that to me all the time and I still fuck up hahahaha it just takes time my dude :)
You can do it!!
Novgorod did not exist on 867 AD, and neither Poland, not to speak of any Polish kingdom.
Those are Muscovite scribbles of the 15-16th centuries that have nothing to do with Novgorodъ and Varangians whatsoever.
Q: derived from a common source...
A: Muscovite propaganda sources derives from its own Muscovite propaganda universe.
It’s funny you suggest potentially bumping the speed - I often find myself watching CKIII videos on .75 lol. cheers
@@italianspartacus Seriously, one of the best videos on the game. Thank you!
The last part was a good advice, not only on this game, but on learning anything.
Indeed , I saved scummed my way through college and got my degree😂
Incredible that you did this video in one take. Thank you, Paradox games have such brutal learning curves. I've been playing them for years and barely understand how they work.
Hahahah thank you. All my guides I write down some notes and just hit record. It's much easier for me to be free flowing with this format than scripted! Glad I could help my dude
@ItalianSpartacus There are some things that you didnt get quite right. Let me correct them for you:
Can u tell me how to unlock crown authority level 3
@ i think it's just you thinking that
ItalianSpartacus you get to choose what your wife’s stats go towards. By default she “assists the ruler” , giving your ruler a small boost to all his stats based on hers, but you can use the drop down menu to have her assist any specific council member you like.
Thanks for the shout-out, ItalianSpartacus. There is a lot in this video to absorb.
im new to this kind of game, and damn, the first pause on my game took me about prolly 1 hour or more just looking at details on what to do and stuff.

Tried playing Count of Montague because the game said he'd be "easy". Managed to conquer Léon before being assassinated and then immediately torn apart. Lasted maybe ten years.
Fucking King of West Francia, he is a snake. I've managed to murder him in a scheme once, that was wonderful.

Looking good! Remember newcomers, it's okay to have a campaign go horribly wrong, it's part of the learning process, and later on... an unexpected feature of the game. The best stories have nadirs, they make the apex that much more satisfying.
12 mins in and this is already wayyy more helpful then the tutorial
I just want to give a huge thank you here, sir. In all my time of gaming, especially strategy gaming, I can honestly say I have never seen such a thorough, well-put-together, and informative beginner tutorial. I stopped, and abandoned the first campaign I started in order to watch this video, knowing I would have a better grip on things in my second and subsequent plays.

Welcome to the family brother and thank you so much for watching :)
Lmao.
Hahahaha that's still so awesome though. That's why I love this game
Are unpressed claims inheritable?
@@rollercoaster478 No, but if you go to war for an unpressed claim, it refreshes into a pressed claim (whether or not you win said war), which IS inheritable
What...I don’t get it
@@Joostmhw 1. kids all get implicit claims on their alive parents actual titles that they hold.
4. I will add that your grandkids dont get implicit claims on your titles, there are situations where it can matter, for example if your heir dies, and then your character dies, then your perfect grandkid might not inherit anything, but it all depends on Inheritance Laws I think, so just be careful about that, always check the Line of Succession by clicking on the title you want to check under your characters profile, then click Line of Succession

thank you so much man!! hahah i'm glad you're enjoying it!! :)
This game is so special. I have like 80h and still feel like a beginner
tanx to you, i went from hating this game to loving it
These videos are so great!
Still have not played been looking at guide videos on youtube for the past 2 days lmao
please check out my buddy HforHavoc then! he knows FAR more than me and he has tons of great info!
This is the most thorough and detailed tutorial! Just started playing this game. June 2023!! Keep it up bro!!!
First ruler lived to 89 in the 800s I feel lucky...too bad ivar’s kids decided my land shouldn’t be held by me anymore
Despite it being 2 years old, I found this more helpfull than more recent guides. Good move choosing Poland as a vehicle to expand on, as compared to the Irish which I saw in other vids.
My pleasure brother :) I've stayed up to date with the game and not much has changed since launch, only added. So it's a pretty timeless video
My immediate problem was that i couldn't decide what to do first. Almost overwhelmed with options....then got invades
Really great guide, helped a lot. Watching the buffoon I call my chancellor completely piss off the entirety of Ireland every 6 months was quite incredible.
This is absolutely the best way to break it down for a new player. I am a seasoned strategy gamer but this game is next!
Knew this would be the place to come so bought with the Fanatical link
dude thank you so much man that's such high praise :D
I've watched a good few hours of guides on this game on my channels, these guides are by far the clearest most in depth and superior to all others, thanks for your efforts.
What I've found difficult it just starting off as a random character lower down the food chain. I understand the concept of the mechanics, but it's not long into the game when I've been raided or invaded while the liege is happy to watch if there is one, and there seems no way forward. Taking on the Munster/Ireland character it's just much easier, I'm slightly stronger than the neighbours so it feels a lot easier to build up some land.
The 867 start in this is brutal. tribals with invasion and conquer casus belli makes playing as any coastal territory nearly impossible.
Tbh, I learned how to play CKIII so much more than the tutorial taught me. This video helped basically keep it both detailed and "Engaging" for lack of better words.
Thank you so much brother. If you need anything else, let me know
In 867 you're in the Early Medieval Period... not "tribal period" (in fact you could still go back a couple of hundreds of years and it would still be considered "Early Medieval Period", it's the Dark Ages... straight after the fall of the Western Roman Empire.
In 1066 you're just before the First Crusade (1096) and right after the Church Schism which resulted in Orthodox and Catholic (1054).
in game there is a ''tribal period'' regarding the culture, not regarding real life historical periods.
My History grade is going to rise a full letter...retroactively because I left school 35 years ago lol. This game is SO involved! Thanks for taking the time to walk us through this!
Hahahaha my pleasure brother :)
Looks lovely. I'll hold off for a bit but it seems I've found my game for the autumn.
I'm just jumping over from crusader kings 2 but wasn't that practiced with that one, so looking forward to listening to these guides a bit.
Beginner's guide. 1 hour long. aaah yeah!
i love this video it explains everything so clearly but always leaves room for the actual exprrience. i hate "guides" where its not really a guide and ends up being a strict order of what to do and what to avoid. videos like this that leave room to explore for yourself especially for a game where there is not one right way to play make me incredible happy. I know i will learn things best by just playing but this video set me up and prepared me perfectly. it helped a lot thanks!!!
Totally feel the same way!! Glad it helped out my dude and left room for your own personal exploration!
This game should be a college course :)
This video and the last one on the playlist have given me thee BEST 2 pieces of advice I've seen so far (and I've watched A LOT of guides):
1) the action lock on the tool tip
2) do the tutorial
I watched these last night before I went to sleep and when I started playing today I was at just over 30 hours playing.
Im gonna rp as Tywin Lannister
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! OMG I did the tutorial and I was still so lost and I tried just jumping into a game and everything just started going horribly wrong. This is what I needed!
Thank you
This game is really cruel if you don't know what you're doing , my whole kingdom got deleted by great pox , just saying lol i had the worst physician i could have , well is part of the fun having challenges but what a awesome game this is to dive into
This was so helpful. 😭 Way more in depth than the tutorial. I couldn't figure out the military part and I kept going in debt. Not to mention my family tree is more like a family wreath. 🤦🏻♀️
I subbed after “is the juice worth the squeeeeze” 🤣
I've been wanting to get into this game for years. Love the channel. I can just listen to you play the game all day bro, great channel. Your pacing is perfect. Audio is perfect. If you're not a teacher you should be
get a physician he said... ok got one, then i got sick, and the doc propose me 2 option, a safe one but take long time, or a quick one but risky, i choose quick one, i died. well at least am not sick anymore and it was quick
Hahahaha the quick one almost always is terrible unless you have a great physician
This video was so helpful thank you. I was completely overwhelmed and confused and this helps me at least make a start and then learn as I go
Happy to help brother :)
@@italianspartacus I’m now high king of Ireland and have converted the whole nation to Catholicism
I was drawn to Stellaris for it's roleplaying potential. Anyone who's played this or CK2, is it more of a sandbox or a set experience?
In my limited experience, it is very sandbox. But you cannot, yet, create your own ruler/culture/religion from scratch without mods.
@@CptRyaffio Is that typically something they add to the game later? Are mods easy to download and use?
@@justagamingbulldog9246 hey if they get to use the same systems for different games we get to compare them
