Whenever the gaming industry is free reign it's bound to happen. There should be governmental laws in place that apply the same way to regular products e.g equality control. The fact you can openly buy a product that is broken and not function, and ( if you're in america like myself ) can't even get your money back; there needs to be some change.

The audio quality is incredible, it gives the exact same experience as actually watching King Kong in Cinemas with someone loudly scrunching a crisp packet next to you. Truly ahead of its time
They somehow ruined the only reason why you would play a game as King Kong, which is the fact that he is a giant kaiju. Since the art designers on this team apparently don't understand how to model scale appropriately, you get trees that look like tall bushes and effectively "angry ape simulator".
This. Like aside from everything else that's wrong, this is the main thing. Like even with the terrible graphics and uninspiring gameplay you should at least be able to find some entertainment in the fact of playing as a giant ape fighting other giant creatures, but the way it's done it looks like you are just a normal sized gorilla.
If you get a chance play the one that's based off of Peter Jackson's King Kong , possibly one of the greatest licensed movie games ever made!
I played it on ps2 and it still keeps a special place in my memory.

Honestly the least shocking thing, learning about this game’s backstory was that, starting from literally 0, the team had 1 year to push this out, cause it truly feels like an early pre-alpha build
I want to know what other requirements were placed on the devs. They knew they had only a year and still went with a mostly realistic looking action game. Did they have to do that?
Ya i feel like we have been giving the benefit of the doubts to devs for a while and so many games thats come out the past 2 years have been really buggy and bad and some of them had years of development. So ya no they should have went a different route and made a actually game.
The sad part is the devs had to start from the ground up making concept blackouts etc with little to no real fleshed out idea and with a deadline of 1 year the worse part is for some big games pre-production takes up a full year this game basically had to do this process wayyy faster and the result is an unpolished game
KOTOR 2 was made in 1 year. And a lot of other great games too.
It's just not an excuse.

The devs(iguanabee) did an anonymous interview where they blame publisher(gamemill) for the state of the game.
Basically saying they had only a year to develop so the Sh*t quality.But, if you look at what they have had time to get Done in that time frame, from animation to asset design,gameplay,UI etc....the problem is quite clear.They simply dont have the Talent pool to design such high caliber games.
They(Iguanabee)can try to scapegoat by blaming Gamemil.But at the end of the day, Iguanabee failed at making this game worth the money.Its a lack of talent and trying from their part

It blows my mind how this and gollum came out in the same year as tears of the kingdom and baldur's gate 3. Truly a year of all time.

it feels like the entirety of the story was told through the achievement descriptions
I like how instead of Kong being the guardian of the island like he normally is, defeating monster’s only when they threaten the balance of Skull Islands ecosystem, he quite literally is just a bloodthirsty monster that kills every single animal he comes across. If Kong were his actual size, almost every enemy would be just a fly to him, completely harmless.
This isn’t modern Kong, this is the 1933 King Kong, who is canonically 20-25 feet tall.

Devs have come out and said they only had a year to make this. My assumption at this point is that GameMill Entertainment (the publisher) had a contractual obligation to release a licensed King Kong game, and forced a team to churn this out with minimal time and budget. Neither game arguably should've ever been released, but Gollum at least had some misguided passion and funding behind it. Skull Island: Rise Of Kong is pure corporate greed at its worst.
Clearly you have no clue how games are made then. This isn't some blockbuster AAA release and clearly was never meant to be. NO a year to make a game isn't "short" or "overworking devs" I also hate to break it to you but the article im sure you got this from on Woketaku, also mentions the team was 40 devs which is also not that unusual, games generally don't have hundreds of people working on them.
Majoras mask was made within a year and is a beloved classic. This game has no excuse

spiders do have claw like appendices at the end of their legs, except they dont resemble hands in any way, they look more like little hooks or tree branches.

What’s crazy is that the 2005 King Kong PS2 video game looks 10x better than this. You could play as the main characters from the movie and King Kong himself. It had some survival horror to it and it’s pretty cool that you could fight the T-Rex from the movie. That Game should get a remastered copy.
I played it on either Xbox or Xbox 360 but you are so right. That masterpiece needs a remaster.
And somehow they make it require like 32 time stronger setup
Played it on psp, genuinely amazing and in certain situations scary game, highly recommend.
That game fuckin rocked. I remember playing the demo at a Gamestop when the 360 first launched and my mind was blown. Eventually played through it, great game. Looked fantastic.

Luke Stephens uploaded a video on this game the other day. The audio wasn't completely screwed up on PC, so the Xbox port is somehow even worse. But the best part is, when he hovered over the game icon in the taskbar, it's just the default Unreal icon and the game is labeled _"Monke."_ No joke. I guess the project name was Monke and they never bothered to change it.

Kev really has a talent - after Gollum washed out his entire game in red light, now Kong served him potato quality audio. Neither of which I have seen others experience, so either he is uniquely capable breaking broken games even further, or he is the victim of an ancient voodoo curse.

It feels like the team was making a Donkey Kong game and the producer came by one day and was like "No, it's King Kong, not Donkey Kong". That's why the scale is shot and the sounds are busted because they had to change the echo so it fits in a larger setting, and why you can't even tell Kong is 100 ft tall.
When you see rare achievement - chapter 2 you know the game's gonna be amazing

The few moments you get to play as Kong in *Peter Jackson's King Kong* are awesome. They nailed the graphics, atmosphere, and Kaiju scale of him rampaging through mountains. Play that one if you haven't, and thank you, Kev, for taking this one for us all.
Yeah I didn’t expect that game to be survival horror when I first played it on the original Xbox. Those times where you were alone made me felt uneasy.
@@chaoticboy626 Yeah. Crazy that they did it with the limited tech back then. Peter Jackson was involved as well, so no wonder the atmosphere was perfect. Game had no HUD and you're up against all kinds of crawlies. I felt uneasy as well because I too didn't think it was a survival horror game. It's a great game but I expected it to be a scappy fps or stealth game. Too bad, a remake or remaster of that game with updated game mechanics would've made more money than this pos.

kong is a beautiful well crafted game, with a deep and interesting lore that make you feel like Kong, that said, The Rise of Kong Skull island is the most videogame of all time.
What happens if you beat the "supposed to lose" first Gaw fight?
Im not 100% certain but I saw a video where Gaw got stuck on a tree/shrub and the person was able to do a crap ton of damage while Gaw was unable to attack but it still triggered the death cutscene for Kongs Parents so I believe it's scripted to be unbeatable
Gaw's health won't go down past like half, someone else got him stuck and hit him for a while and once his health got down to a certain level it wouldn't go down anymore

@@elvickRULES Honestly don't get why more of the "scripted to lose" fights don't do stuff like this. If you make it intentionally difficult to beat cuz you're meant to lose, then give the player some sort of silly reward for winning so they feel accomplished, and give them a laugh at the same time, such a big win.
I imagine this being the concept product that they presented to the company and then thought "You know what? You can't steer away too far from the concept game if you just release the concept game itself!".

I looked up this game's publisher and it's the aptly named game mill, whose most famous game is called Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing and suddenly it all made sense.
May I just say that I find it utterly hilarious that the beginning of the video, when he was looking at his game library, we can see he's currently almost done downloading Armored Core VI (a truly fantastic game) and yet he chose to play this lmao. I'm not sure if that was there intentionally to be funny but I sure got a chuckle out of it.

The UI elements are place so far in that it feels like the game was supposed to be letterboxed, which would be a terrible decision but the left the UI in place

despite it atrocious gameplay, i do like how it gave some of the raptors fully feathered arms and ability to flap. Not to be too nerdy, Maniraptors were covered in feathers, and at least the smaller species may have had ability to use the arms to provide nominal lift in jumping or to scale steep terrain.
Kev is a true Martyr, willing to endure the worst of the worst... so we don't have to.
The video I needed came out two days before I knew about it, and it's even better than I needed it to be.
If the devs wanted to give a reason to fight enemy spam, they could have just went full Dark Souls and made them give "Fury points" on death. Those points could have then been put into boosting your HP, rage meter, attack power, etc.
Then they could have filled their huge, open levels with more enemies so they don't feel so uncomfortably empty.
Being a kaiju fan has it's periods of ups and downs. I thought we were doing great right now with Godzilla Minus One, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong all coming out. But oh boy does this game hurt.

I've noticed a lot of people wondering, "how'd they get the King Kong license for this shovelware?"
The answer is, I don't think they actually did. Due to some weird licensing shenanigans that I don't fully understand but that involves a novelization released too far ahead of the movie, several elements of the original story, including King Kong himself, are technically public domain. If there's any reason at all to release a Kong game in 2023 (and heck to just call it 'Kong' instead of 'KING Kong') it'd be to ride off the Monsterverse, but if they actually had a license, wouldn't you expect the enemies to be things like skull crawlers, and other additions that Legendary made to the mythos? Would the final boss be a generic Hasbro dinosaur named "Gaw," if they were working under a massive movie studio with close connections to *Toho?*
This is worse than licensed shovelware. Worse even than a bootleg. This is *legally distinct* shovelware.

After learning what the studio had to do in a year time with no budget under a frankly horrible publisher, it's a miracle the game even run, and a shame that players will associate them with it.
