After 35 years in he FD one of my favorite stories is meeting this Icon! I was a USAF firefighter, with a specialty in Rescue, taking Army Combat Skills Training at Ft. Carson, CO in early 2006. We went to a friend’s house in CO Springs to do laundry and enjoy a few hours away from the Army. We walk in the hose and Kevin Shea was in the kitchen with his wife. I was awestruck but he was down to Earth and just as nice & humble as he could be. It is one of the highlights of my career. Great interview!

As a kid I remember watching an episode of Firehouse with Mr. Shea and Rescue 1. I can't even count the number of times I rewatched it, but being able to watch the podcast tonight was like meeting a childhood hero of mine. Awesome show like always Kev, Pete, and Lou, and thank you Mr. Shea for sharing your story with us.

Great show, Kevin Shea is a fireman’s fireman!!! I still remember that rope rescue in Manhattan. Rescue 911 aired the call. I was and still am in awe of Rescue One and its crew. God Bless them all!

Lt. I was 19 years old back in 91 when I was confused about what career I should pursue. 2 things happened around that time that led me to taking the FD exam, and became a 40 year beloved career of mine. 1 the Backdraft movie came out and I was very interested in the job, then your rescue was all over every media channel in the country. Watching you work put me over the edge. I took the test and got hired. I’m still active today stretching & loving it! Thanks for sharing your story with us. You really were & are an inspiration.

I am exceptionally happy that Kevin decided to come on the show. Wire to wire, the best episode to date. No slight to the other guys, they've all great.

I wish I’d listened to my father. He wanted me to become a FDNY member. I chose to work with him in Holyoke MA. Listening to you guys, he was right! The Brotherhood is alive and well in the FDNY. My experience in Holyoke was horrible. The guys just didn’t love the job! BTW, I had 3 years on the job when I saw Kevin and Pat make that rescue. They were instant role models for me. I wish my career had been like Dennis Smith wrote about in Engine 82. However, I still am proud of my time serving with my Dad and still LOVE the fire service. Thank you Kevin for being such an inspiration

Kevin’s famous rope rescue was shown in my academy class during ropes & knots training in the early 90’s. I have watched this interview more than once. I am amazed that after all Kevin has been through he is so positive and up beat. What a humble man. I think it’s great that he’s still sharing his knowledge with other brothers. We used to have FDNY guys come to our firehouse here and there for training on drill night. They are all a wealth of knowledge and great to learn from. Stay well Kevin and try to enjoy retirement! Thank you for sharing your amazing story with all of us.

Our station (#2) firefighters recently went back to the basics in training....catching hydrants, stretching attack lines in multi-story structures. So refreshing to hear emphasis placed on going back to the basics of firefighting! I was shocked to hear a few days ago when talking to new probationary firefighters of all the operations/skills that they no longer teach or cover in collegiate fire academies. Actually alarming!

Watch Boston stretch on calls of smoke in, or coming from, a bldg.. Better to stretch and NOT need it than to walk in empty-handed and then realize that you DO need it. Complacency will kill people.

Great show Guys!! I was and still am in a Suffolk department and we had training at the fire training academy and it was Lt Shea ‘s 1st night and he was with us. He was and still is a very humble man , everyone that night new of kevin and taking back by how down to earth he was . Shaking his hand that night and telling him thank you for tonight was one of my greatest moments of my life. A true gentleman. And thank you Lou, Kevin , Pete truly love your show.. And one more thing I had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Norton Burke . Another great guy I probably sat and talked to him for 30 to 45 mins. And just like Lt Shea a very humble and kind man .. be safe be well .. stay low and go🤙🤙

Hi guys happy new year. You were talking about engine 239 which was a single house in the day of the original quarters of the Brooklyn fire department. Now they are co chartered with ladder 114 which was on 5th Avenue in Brooklyn also a single house. Wow how times have changed. Great job on the career of lt. Kevin shea. Good memories of a great firefighter who devoted his life to the protection and service to the citizens of new York. God bless you
