As I upload this audio recording, I am gratified to see my subscriber count now reaching 1,000, for which I am so thrilled to see. I appreciate all the interest in these recordings I’ve made over the years. To mark this subscriber milestone, I reached back into my personal files for this one. For many years, Larry Glick (1922-2009) hosted what many considered to have been New England’s most popular nighttime phone-in show, heard over WBZ Radio in Boston. I was a fan of his and was delighted back in the summer of 1979 that he picked up on a story I had been reporting that year for a newspaper I was working for during the time. The story of “The Mystery Girl of Stewartstown Hollow, N.H.” surely ranks as one of the most unusual stories during my early newspaper career. It eventually gained national attention-but what was it all about? Listen for yourself.

Things eventually quieted down in the Hollow. The former school building where the "mystery girl" appeared now houses a church. It is still wooded around there. I remember interviewing an older fellow (he was born in 1884) at the time who told me that years earlier a similar little girl was seen in those same woods and left a field of planted potatoes. The she too eventually stopped appearing. So who knows if something strange there will appear again someday...
