I never met J. Fred Muggs, but he and his kindred were neighbors of mine in a triplex apartment I rented from Buddy Mennella outside of Tampa decades ago. The middle unit was most always vacant during my stay, rented as I recall by a merchant marine. The chimps greeted my coming and going noisily over the first few days, but after that acquaintance there was only eerie silence when I passed by. They knew me! In the middle of the night you'd sometimes hear the rattle of a cage door or a low hoot, but such beginnings almost always marked the beginning of a chorus that would grow louder, ending with climactic banging and screaming from the whole group that would briefly rattle the walls. This was routine for them and peace soon followed. Remarkably, one gets used to such things, just as when you live by the train tracks or an airport, and once I became used to the chimps I found those noises easier to live with than the customs of most human neighbors.
I watched these guys as a kid. They had a contest to name the new chimp, all these postcards that were sent in were spread them out on the floor. They let her go and apparently the one she put her frenzied little hand on was Phoebe B Bebe. I’ve always wondered what the other cards said.

Nobody ever has an outro that I want to see. As soon as the content is over I ram the slider home to get the next suggestions, then hit the comments and voting. If I was in "the business" I might care about credits and such, but I am just a customer and nothing that I ever care about is ever marketed to me.....I'm just a 65 year old chimp that does NOT like bananas.
Hey I know the farm you're talking about. When I was 11 that where my dad took my dog Abe. I use to write him but he never wrote back or called so I just stopped. My dad said it's a nice big farm with rolling hills and squeaky balls fall from the sky as well as hunks of meat grow like flowers.
Muggs, I think, loved Dave Garroway. I think the Benzedrine in the orange juice story was true, but it wasn't Dave. J. Fred Muggs didn't like Jack Lescoulie, which is why he attacked him on the air by trying to destroy (and very nearly succeeding) his desk. I think Lescoulie is the guilty party.
