  • Here is the initial look at the latest night vision scope release form Arken Optics. It is the Zulus HD 3 x 12 R. What differs from this and the HD 5 - 20 R is the lower zoom, which caters for close up rat shooters and squirrel. It also features a rangefinder that in my case works from as close as 4 yards, and out to 1000 yards for those with rifles with longer legs. All in all, a great new release from the manufacurers of the Zulus. In the next video I will show the differences between the two. The prices are the same for the 3 x 12 and the 5 x 20 version, plus if you already have the 5 x 20, the there is no difference in operation.
For more on the 3 x 12, or 5 - 20 just check out the links below:

Science degree and £600 required. Couple of the new Chinese stand alone scopes do everything you need at night out to 60 yards. At £130, you will not be so peeved if it breaks in 18 months time. Like my ATN did. Very good in depth advert.

OK, I do have a Physics degree but that's really not necessary. Nor is £600 if you're savvy. Mine was £540 and it's worth every penny. This is my third NV system after an X-sight and a Pard 008 and it blows those two out of the water. That ballistic calculator is as much of a gamechanger for me as thermal imaging is for a spotter. The rats don't stand a chance.

Very informative mate so thank you. One point though,if the weather conditions are important that means every time we go anywhere we have to check the temp, pressure etc, and maybe alter the scope settings before we shoot!! Just ordered one of these so trying to learn as much as possible.

Yes, its's best to check the conditions and to make adjustments to the settings if needed.

Did you have to measure scope hight and add that info into the ballistic calculator, thanks

Focus fussy 😩 ,at night picture brilliant and day time but that focus was a deal breaker

Easy enough to focus though? Anyway, hack for this issue: Drill a hole in the centre of the lens cover. Start with an 8mm one and see how you get on, you can always make it bigger. It works the same way as reducing the aperture does on a camera (increases the depth of field). Obviously you may have to up the IR level as less "light" will be getting to the sensor but it will massively improve the depth of field. Don't want to mess up your lens cover? Stick some tape over the objective end and put a hole in that.

Can these Zulus hand larger calibers or are they only for airguns? what is their rating limit?

Definitely not just for airguns, it works fine on my .243.
