I've read Kristian Lavransdatter (loved it), and Nervous Conditions (I need to get on with the second book). I've also read My Brilliant Friend, but I didn't care for it. I have considered rereading it, because I think the reason I didn't get on with it, was the style of the audiobook narrator (Norwegian translation). The Forsyte Saga is on my list. I'm considering starting it on audiobook soon. Have you read the Barroy (Barrøy) series by Roy Jacobsen? There are four books, starting with The Unseen. Based on the books you mentioned in this video, I think you might like it.
@GuroFlemmen I find that an audiobook narrator can make a big difference to my enjoyment of a book so may be worth retrying! Great to hear good things about Kristin Lavransdatter- definitely making it a priority soon! I've not read any Roy Jacobsen- will definitely check him out, sounds very interesting 😊
I loved Kirsten Labransdatter! I got the Penguin deluxe version and it’s massive indeed but I listened to the audiobook along with it. 😊 great recommendations here.
I've read the first Kristin Lavransdatter book this year and really loved it. I've read the latest English translation by Tiina Nunnally which I think is considered the best one but I'm sure this one is good too.
@@abookhug Oh great, always good to hear good things!! I should have done more research on the translation 😅 Fingers crossed this version is good. I may pick up the Nunnally version of the later books to compare!
I also want to read the Forsyte Saga and the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy! My favorite series are The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice and The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
@BaileeWalsh Always great to find a whole series in the same edition in good condition- that's the dream! I really want to read some Anne Rice- I tried Interview with the Vampire as a teenager and didn't really get on with it, but think I may have been too young to appreciate it. Series are so tricky to manage- I think I prefer waiting until I have a lot of reading time and I can fully commit to one!
Durrell is an unusual English writer. I think if you translated The Alexandrian Quartet into Spanish one would think he was a South American writer. There is a sensual dream and nightmare quality to those books. The Books of the New Sun deviate in storytelling much like Don Quixote or Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics (Wolfe was an influence on his work). Nice to see these books.
@LibroParadiso-ep4zt Yes, I really agree- Justine feels like a bit of a fever dream! Not quite sure what's going on but the setting is so intense that I'm really enjoying it! Oh great, I can't wait to give Wolfe a go!
I’m also interested in reading Gene Wolfe’s series I have it on my TBR might tackle it next year 😊
@aprettybookshelf I think this might be one for next year for me too! Not quite been brave enough to pick it up yet. It's quite intimidating!

@PeeweeM80 yay, glad to hear you enjoyed it! I've still not tackled it quite yet. An audibook alonfside the physical is a great idea!
