- Napoleon: Total War 1vs1: 122-gun Ship-of-the-Line vs 122-gun Heavy First Rate
Nation: France vs Great Britain
AI Strength: normal
*Both ships: controlled by AI.
*I was sitting in a Sloop to watch the battle 😈.
With the exception of the massive Santissima Trinidad, the 122-gun Ship-of-the-Line, or 122-gun Heavy First Rate for Great Britain are the most heavily armed ships in Napoleon: Total War. They pay for this with their exorbitantly high cost, as well as among the worst accuracy, reloading, and speed of any class of ship-of-the-line. With 122 guns, however, even the least accurate ship is bound to inflict heavy damage on its target, particularly if it is close. With the exception of the larger ships-of-the-line, no ship is able to withstand more than a couple of salvos from the 122-gun ships-of-the-line. Only France, Great Britain and Spain can build 122-gun ships-of-the-line: most other factions have to rely on the much smaller 74-gun ships-of-the-line instead, which don't stand a chance in a head on fight. In the end game, however, the weaknesses of the 122-gun ships-of-the-line are magnified with the advent of the speedy yet powerful steam powered ships, such as the 80-gun Steam Ship and the Ironclad.
Despite being such large ships, 122-gun ships-of-the-line have a superior range for Chain Shot that is usually characteristic of much lighter ships. This means that 122-gun ships-of-the-line can, if they manage to maneuver their bulk correctly, rapidly destroy enemy sails from a safer distance than most ships of a similar size.
The 122-gun ship-of-the-lines' worst flaws are their very poor handling and speed. Lighter ships should be able to easily escape unless their sails were damaged first, and reposition themselves in a way so that they may fire on such behemoths without much fear of return fire. The very large size and slow speed of the 122-gun ships-of-the-line make them attractive targets for bomb ketches and rocket ships.
Some factions' ship statistics are different from others; differences are listed below (traits that to not differ are not listed). Additionally, while most factions require steam drydocks to build the 122-gun ship-of-the-line, France may build them at drydocks, which they have immediate access to building at the beginning of the Europe Campaign. Great Britain, Spain and France begin the Europe campaign with one 122-gun ship-of-the-line each.

Wow, the pathfinding of these ships is absurd. There's a bit where the French ship fails to get a single volley off, in exchange to three from the British, simply because it couldn't think to adjust its heading by a few degrees.
Yeah, I should control 1 ship next videos.
@@TotalWar1vs1 Could be interesting to do "player control" VS "no control" videos for ships.
@@TotalWar1vs1 That's too easy. I can beat a heavy 1st rate with a 6th rate, just by cheesing the AI. The trick is to get them to pursue you. Keep the distance, broadside a volley of chain shot just beyond max range, and start running again before they've chance to maneuver around and shoot back. Rinse and repeat until their masts break, then you can loop around to the stern and hammer them at point blank.
@@nozero1 Thank you bro, nice strategy! But I wanna make a fair battle, so I'll do the same thing as the AI.
IRL one ship would have turned earlier to fire chain-shot and dis-mast its opponent from long range at which point the fight is already over
The best part about empire and Napoleon were the naval battles for me, the ships were so cool and the sound of the cannons and the ships clashing were next level, loved every second of this
Me too 👍
And the most brilliant one is that the statistics are not determinant in actual battle, with careful and accurate action, the weaker side in status is possible to defeat the stronger side.
that is a good game
Good old times, when TW games actually had naval battles.
and they were good
👍
@@jemo4211 I mean even thought you can see the AI and pathing is retarded here as well, and the battle lasts 7 minutes, this is still looks way more fun that Shogun 2 FotS sea battles and definitely way more fun that the base Shogun 2 battles.
@@jemo4211 They were good, but an empire campaign with britain and over 1.000+ naval battles and 100- land battles really makes me wish I never do it again. I hope empire 2 gets a good auto-resolve system.
Wow...How can you play 1000+ naval battles...
How long did you complete those 1000+ battles?
2:04 2 ships facing each others
2:52 Full cannon fires from both side - like Pirates of Caribean
6:36 final casuality on both side. 2 ships have same stat but like every time, British rule the wave.
😈👍
6:36 is wrong, britsh ship has much higher reload, and the fight was so close, that accuracy didn't matter.
@@Falcon0BR i think that the reloading stats in the game is not equivalent to what we see in the beginning stats board. I can feel that the time to reload of 2 ships is the same, not the British 3 times higher in stat than France.
@@thanhtc1988 Reload it not cumulative, 15 doesn't mean 5 times faster, you can see that the salvos of the British ship does reload a bit faster, not much, the reload was the reason the British did win, because the France was smart enough (probably luck) to take hit in both sides.
@Tiago👍
5:48 that’s when the battle was sealed the French took too many volleys without returning any receiving more damage than they were dealing
The AI was suck...👍
Watching the AI struggle in this battle was so frustrating. Seeing both ships just stare blankly at each other at the start was driving me up the wall. 😅
Yeah, I think I should control 1 ship next videos.
2:52 moneyshot
😈👍
I didn't know Napoleon had 122 - Heavy First Rate Ships.
Thought only Empire had them.
even better, NTW Spain has a 140-gunner.
@@brainwasher9876 the santissima Trinidad, a massive beast
@@brainwasher9876 yeah i wished it the santisma was in empire too...bc i like empire more, but i just love capturing the Santisma for the British Empire.
That battle is a great depiction of what's happening between Samsung and iPhone right now.
😈👍
if that really happened in the battle ,nobody can survive
Yup 👍
Love to See a Battle where 1 1. Rate Fights against a third rate and a 4. Rate
Okay bro!
But why they are different?
Ship of the line with 122 gun are first rank isn't it?
They are the same. Just different name.
@@TotalWar1vs1 They have some difference.
For example - reload.
@@TotalWar1vs1 But their characteristics different.
Maybe it because first British, second French?Different shipyards/technology or something
@@Leantenant I don't know...
it's just...good buisness
Thank you bro!
@@TotalWar1vs1 i think hes refferencing a quote from th pirates of the caribbean
@@neymarmessironaldo5881 Oh I see 😅
Great Britain had the weather gauge from the start allowing them to maintain control and move away from the French out of the reach of their cannons while they were laid in irons. I'd love to see a battle where the two ships turn to sail with the wind so neither have the advantage and goes purely on ship strengths and weaknesses.
Just an FYI, I'm a fanfic writer currently writing a piece on 17th century naval fighting in pre Pirates of the Caribbean time so I've had to do a lot of research on naval battles.
Thanks for your info bro! Good luck in your job.
Know where I could find a good source of the ‘lingo’ (English obviously) for that time period particularly for those of a naval profession?
this video made me want to buy that game, im sold now! XD
Really worth it! 👍
Hey mr Total war! can you make a video about a spanish galleon vs any 5th rate/4? i want to see if its worth make a fleet full of galleons to defend all my node routes (not as trading ships, but for protect them.)
Okay bro! Will do.
Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me!
😈
UK Ship is shorter and more agility.
This game isn't tbe mose beauty from series, but navy battlle are top.
For me, top 1 is Fall of the Samurai naval battles :D, Napoleon in 2nd place.
Tip:
French ships have better accuracy, so fight at range. You can stay upwind of your opponent and try to unleash long-range broadsides.
British ships have less accuracy but faster reloading speed. This makes a huge difference at close range. As the British player, try to get in close and slug it out at point blank, even better. Align your broadside with the enemy's stern or bow while their sails are out and fire chain shot. This will halve their speed and allow you to get as close as you like.
Thanks for the tip!
this fight alone is better than AAA ship & piracy sea games.
Did you try World of Warships? In my opinion, it's the best warships combat game
@@TotalWar1vs1 I need a pirate era 1400-1800s combat, not modern warfare
@@MasterNuk Oh sorry mate. So Napoleon Total War should be your choice, naval battles are better than Empire
Will you do any attila 1v1s?
I really want to make Attila videos but I cannot... There is no mods which allow me to use all units as general in custom batlle.
god the pathfinding in this game and empire is fucking dogshit, literally takes the fun and immersion out of the game
😅😅
