There are lot of folks who shouldn't be alive by the end of Scream 6, and frankly I'm one of em! I watched this latest installment at an Austin, TX drive-in when an absolutely insane storm rolled in out of nowhere and forced them to stop the movie in the middle. I picked back up again a week later at an LA drive-in and thankfully was able to finish in peace.
It would have been more appropriate to watch at an NYC drive-in though, because that's where our heroes and villains have all moved to. This time Ghostface is killing people in bodegas, in subways, and even on top of the Statue of Liberty! Okay maybe one of those is a lie... but you'll have to watch to find out.
Plot (via Wiki):
One year after the Woodsboro killings orchestrated by Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) and Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison), professor Laura Crane (Samara Weaving) is catfished and murdered by her student Jason Carvey (Tony Revolori) wearing a Ghostface costume. Jason plots with his roommate Greg to kill sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter to finish the "movie" that Richie and Amber wanted to make. However, Jason receives a call from a different Ghostface, who has killed Greg and subsequently stabs Jason to death.
Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) now live in New York City, with Tara attending university alongside Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), their roommate Quinn Bailey (Liana Liberato), Mindy's girlfriend Anika Kayoko (Devyn Nekoda), and Chad's roommate Ethan Landry (Jack Champion). Sam attends therapy and is ostracized in public because of an online conspiracy theory that she was the true mastermind of the latest killings. Quinn's father, Detective Wayne Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), calls Sam in for questioning as her ID was found at the scene of Jason's murder, along with a Ghostface mask worn by Richie and Amber. On the way to the station, Ghostface calls Sam from Richie's phone, who then attacks Tara and kills multiple bystanders in a bodega, and leaves behind another Ghostface mask worn in the 2011 Woodsboro killings.
At the NYPD police station, the sisters meet with FBI special agent Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), a survivor of the 2011 killings, and reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), who has since written a book on the previous Woodsboro killings, much to Sam and Tara's anger. She tells them she spoke to Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and that she has gone into hiding to protect her family.
From his window, Sam's boyfriend Danny (Josh Segarra) witnesses Ghostface stabbing Quinn in Sam and Tara's apartment before attacking the group and killing Anika, leaving behind a mask worn in the Windsor College killings. Gale takes the group to an abandoned theater she found while investigating, which has been set up as a shrine to the Ghostface killers, featuring many items of evidence related to previous massacres now displayed like film props.
Ghostface calls Gale at her apartment and torments her about the death of Dewey Riley (David Arquette) before attacking her. Sam and Tara arrive just in time to stop Ghostface from killing Gale, who is taken to the hospital. The group agrees to meet Kirby at the theater to trap Ghostface. At the theater, Sam sees a hallucination of her father, original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich). Taking his knife from the original murders, she realizes they have been locked inside. Two Ghostfaces appear and attack Chad. Wayne and Kirby both arrive with guns drawn. Wayne attempts to lend credence toward Kirby being the killer, only to shoot her, revealing himself as a third Ghostface and the mastermind; his accomplices are his children, revealed to be Ethan and a still-alive Quinn, who faked her death to ease suspicion.
The trio reveal that they are Richie's family who want to avenge his death. They were responsible for defaming Sam online and plan to frame her for their killing spree. Sam denounces the Bailey family's motives before she and Tara gain the upper hand and fight them off, with Tara stabbing Ethan and Sam killing Quinn, while briefly knocking Wayne unconscious. Sam then dons her father's Ghostface costume and viciously stabs him to death.
As Mindy, Chad, and Kirby are taken to the hospital, Sam stares at her father's Ghostface mask before discarding it and following Tara and Danny into the city.

Forreal, the double knife swipe of the Ghostfaces is one of the coolest moments I’ve ever seen in a movie

As much as I love Chad, it would've been more impactful if he didn't end up surviving after that

you're one of the first people i've seen that has acknowledged the Scream 3 production issue in one of these videos.
Originally the movie was meant to be a cult of killers based in the woodsboro highschool film club, at the end of the movie sidney would arrive at a house and they'd all be dead on the ground but they'd then rise up and reveal it was a prank, reveal motive, etc. I believe Kevin Williamson also said that Stu was meant to be the one leading the cult as he'd survived his injuries in 1 but I can't remember if it was a studio thing they tried to force in or if Kevin Williamson actually wanted to do it, but Matthew Lilard was paid for Scream 3 despite not appearing.
it was a cool concept but Colombine happened and no studio wanted to risk putting out a film that involved high school students murdering people. They also weren't allowing them to use blood in the movie (well at least to the extent the others had) which is why it has more of a Scooby Doo kinda tone.
Kevin Williamson couldn't write the script as he was directing a movie at the time (Teaching Ms Tingle) so the Weinsteins forced a writer they had undercontract to do the movie, the writer hadn't seen the original movies, there was also a heap of script doctoring, uncredited rewrites and stuff honestly written on the day (the chase sequence with Sidney at the set of her house was only in the movie bc Wes Craven asked the set designers to make a replica and I believe he wrote the sequence himself).

The double knife swipe is one of the coolest things in the Scream franchise. Double Ghostface needs to happen more.
Gale’s scene was one of my favorite in the entire franchise. Very happy they didn’t kill another legacy character even though they did her dirty with writing a new book.
Scream 6 is honestly my second favorite in the series. Ghostface just felt different this time, I could actually feel the anger coming off of him and I enjoyed it so much.

To be fair, she yelled it before she got to the gun. If she didn’t, there’s a chance Gale would have received a fatal blow. Basically woulda been sacrificing Gale to kill ghost face.
I thought that for awhile, but then I realized that it’s okay if they call out but have a gun. When you make noise, the killer will turn and look at you and then you have a clean head shot.
Cam we appreciate the fact that Chad got RIPPED UP in 2 movies and made it thru?! Mans got heart

I cannot explain the goosebumps I got when I first saw that double knife wipe in theaters.
As a Scream fan, that gave me chills.

I forgot how goddamn cool the double knife swipe was. I loved this movie. It is right up there with Scream 1 for me. With how other series seem to decrease in quality over time, it seems like Scream is getting stronger after it dipped with 3, then started trending back up with 4 and then having strong titles with 5 and 6.
Between mission impossible and scream, biggest contenders for best long running franchise

I'm gonna say it.
Scream 6 has THE best cold open. The original is a classic.
But there's just something about the 6th film's open that takes it up a notch.
Kinda ate me up with the “spends the whole movie watching experience thinking of their letterboxd review” line. But it’s okay I know my faults and I cannot change.
To be fair, I feel like that’s just a byproduct of being a huge fan of something like film. When I’m playing videogames, a part of my mind is always thinking about what I’d say in a review for it too.
I want the killer to be Roger Jackson, like in universe.
Like he was an upcoming actor in the 90s that lent his voice to this Halloween scary voice prop as a random side gig, which then got used in numerous serial killings and socially ruined him. He couldn't have friends or get a job, because to everyone who met him, heard Ghostface, he was the serial killer in their eyes, not just a normal person.
And since he didn't own the rights to the voice modular, he didn't even get residuals for it from the Stab movies.
After being a struggling artist for decades, while the survivors of those serial killings and the movie stars of those movies gained fame and influence, he snaps and makes it his mission to kill every last one of them.
The real Ghostface.
It’s such a tragedy that there was no kill in a taxi in this movie.

Definitely liked 5 more than I did 6. Rehashing a similar plot, in that of Scream 2, kinda rubbed me the wrong way when I watched it. Still somewhat enjoyed the film, but was expecting more. Hope 7 can b better n hopefully they bring Neve back. “PAY HER.!” 🗣️💯
I'm still not sure how I felt about this Scream entry. It had good moments, but like you said about the end, it felt like they were just doing Scream 2's ending again. Which I guess kinda fits the meta nature of the series, seeing as this is basically the sequel of the reboot movie. But at the same time, it also feels a little "been there, done that." It feels like they just made it more excessively violent this time around for a little bit of shock value.
I guess we'll see how Scream 7 goes from here lol
If they stay true to following the ghost face pattern of the original trilogy (boyfriend, parent) then the next one will be a sibling. Also it's apparently gonna be set at Christmas.

Scream 6 was straight fire. Took my little brother to see it since he's a huge fan of the movies. That boy opened my eyes to how fun they can be 😂
I LOVED THIS MOVIE SOOOOO MUCH!!!! People hated that people survived BUT I LOVED IT! The Core 4 is the new beloved group of characters that you wouldn’t want anything to happen to at least that’s how I see it. Though they will never top Sydney, Dewey, and Gale…but they at least hit the dart board pretty close to the bullseye.
I agree that the ending wasn’t as satisfying though I didn’t exactly love the ending of the last movie. BUT I LOVE HOW THESE ARE MIRRORING THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY except the motives are different and the way things go down are different.
Scream 5 ended at a house party after the main character was attacked and there were two killers one being the boyfriend and another being an obsessive best friend. Scream 6 took place in a theater with a parent of a killer whom our main characters killed trying to get revenge.
ALSO I LOVEEE LOVEEE LOVEEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH SAM’S CHARACTER! I just think it is so badass that she has that killer instinct and potential to be a psycho. I honestly hope they don’t make her ghostface maybe years down the road they could bring her back and she could finally snap for some reason. But I do love the whole her seeing and hearing Billy thing…but I particularly love how brutal and crazy she is when she fights back.
I think if they did make Sam Ghostface in the next movie it was a spin on it. Like say Sam discovers a group of people looking to kill the core four, Sydney, Gale, and all their friends/families…but Sam and Tara are always one step ahead and hunting them down as Ghostface. So they technically are the killers but they are the good guys.
Killers were predictable. Guessed it as soon as Quinn mentioned her brother died and she got killed after.

I agree. Scream VI was fun but I left the theater feeling unsatisfied because of the major plot armor for the main characters, sloppy writing, and the ending being a rehash of Scream 2

I watched this the other night and I honestly liked this one better than Scream 5. I hope Sidney returns for Scream 7 and they should also bring back Stu since I, among many, believe he’s not really dead and it would also mock how Star Wars brought back Palpatine for The Rise of Skywalker.

This one has a lot of great moments and visuals with ghostface but overall it felt a little hokey sometimes and played it a little safe too. Loved it tho. Great track Ric

I would love if the next one if one of the main characters is the killer. Due to all the trauma for 5 and 6 they had a psychotic break and are either knowingly or unknowingly killing
When I first saw this movie on release day I thought it was the best scream movie since 2. I thought it might have just been recency bias but nah this video reminded me this movie is dope as hell.

I went to this movie with my sister expecting only her to like it since I lost interest after the 3rd movie, but I came out surprised at how much I enjoyed myself, it reminded me that I specifically love “cheesy” horror slasher movies.

I saw this in the cinema which definitely improved the experience like Eric the fake out title card and the synchronised knife wipe I enjoyed for the ending I was hoping while they were walking away you saw someone pick up the ghost face mask but you don’t know who but overall I enjoyed this movie
