Even a pastor can't help but laugh at how obscenely heavy the breakdown is lmao

Breakdown gave him the ole stank face 😂
He will need some prayers and cleansing now😂
Which one do u mean? 😅
@@j.l.1210 Yes.
I like how metalheads and non metalheads hear this and are all just like: 😀what
LMAO
lol the song is fire tho 🔥
Been a Metalhead about 25 years, and honestly I laughed and cried at the same time with this one
Very true
Im not sure why metalheads would, its literally an evolution of deathcore and beutal vocals. Not conplaining though, dope to see heavy music in the spotlight again.
pastor: oh, breakdown...
that true breakdown: hold my beer.
The true break down: Hold my infants, I’ll annihilate them in a minute.

This is true for most bands, but I feel like Lorna Shore especially, they don't normally use their lyrics to convey a message, they use the lyrics as a conduit for the emotions the song is trying to convey. That's why he uses these almost archaic phrasings to stir up those dark, almost lovecraftian vibes of fear of the unknown and fear of what lurks beyond the veil.
All if Lorna Shores songs have been about the same type of subject matter, witchcraft, mental illness, dying/death, and they like the old names bc let's be honest, 1000yr old Egyptian names are cooler than Hubert or Norm...lol
nice pun.
That guy reads minds
> almost lovecraftian vibes
That's what I got as well.
Lorna shore does a lot of story telling in their music.
This song is basically a conversation between someone dying and Azrael. Azrael convincing him that it's inescapable and the inevitable acceptance of that fact.
And it is an absolute masterpiece.
I think you can't take metal lyrics literally. You have to read them as a story or a form of art. Like horror movies, they're not endorsing the evils and such that they portray, it's more of a dark story. Many of the metal musicians and fans that I know are the most full of life, loving people. It was nice to hear your take on it, much love!
THIS YES!!!!!
I think this is spot on. Prime example, I watched a 30 min inter view with Will from Lorna Shore and he’s such a down to earth decent, fun loving guy. Always smiling, super happy about the opportunities he’s had and you can’t help but smile while listening to his excited.
Exactly! Everyone loves a good horror movie with ghosts demons and much worse! Death core is just the same story for our ears!
metal should go closer to story than anything. that's why i consider behold the kingdom of the wretched undying the best piece of metal ever made.
Yep
From being a Christian all my life, I’ve had several people who are close to me disparage metal music for being “satanic”. It always made me feel partially guilty for listening to this music even though I like it so much. Only recently have I come to understand that just because I like this genre of music, doesn’t mean I’m praising satan or anything near it. I really feel like the newer generations need to make it understood that you don’t have to be a satanist to like metal music and that you shouldn’t feel bad about it.
I’m an ex Christian and now I guess would be considered a satanist. Basically I follow the ideals of the satanic temple, who are atheists and not satan worshipers at all. They basically just adopted the name “satanic temple” for publicity purposes and to contradict traditional teachings of the Hebrew religions. There’s a huge misconception that all “satanists” worship Satan when most satanists are actually just atheists with progressive ideologies. Either way, even when I was a Christian I loved this kind of music and so did most of my family, as devout baptist Christians. Deathcore does get so much heat especially from traditionalist Christians for being satanic or “devil worship” music. And it’s not just deathcore that gets attacked either, it’s just about any kind of metal or rock. Don’t feel bad about it, honestly if I were you and still a part of Christianity, I just wouldn’t tell anyone about your interest in deathcore. But I think it would be nice if there weren’t so many misconceptions about metal, I just wish more people were open minded of things outside their bubble. I think people get scared of the sound and look of things without actually taking the time to try and understand it. But you shouldn’t have to explain to people why you like a certain genre of music, nor should you feel bad about it. Honestly, when I was a Christian I wish I had a pastor like this dude 😂
@@Meow-oo7yk I appreciate your words. I think if you’re an atheist, you should be that. Not a “satanist”. Satan has meant pretty much the same thing throughout time and the way that people try to make satan seem as not such a bad being in culture nowadays is something that can’t be supported by believers in and followers of God. I get it. I just can’t agree with that. I have experienced mostly the same thing that you have with metal music and Christianity. It’s truly a shame
@@devon9822 Well the satanic temple doesn’t think satan is a good figure at all nor do we worship such a figure. In the case if satan were to be a real being, we would never support his ideals or follow him. The satanic temple just uses the word “satan” for publicity in the media in order to get their message out to a lot of people. “The Mission Of The Satanic Temple Is To Encourage Benevolence And Empathy, Reject Tyrannical Authority, Advocate Practical Common Sense, Oppose Injustice, And Undertake Noble Pursuits.” They’ve actually helped a lot of victims who were stuck in abusive situations, as well as help adults and children who are victims of sexual assault. I completely understand where you’re coming from though, the “satanic temple” doesn’t really sound too great but I promise our intentions are anything but evil. The group of satanists that you gotta watch out for are those who identify with the church of satan, they’re actual satan worshipers. I don’t really call myself a satanist nor do I even really call myself an atheist because part of me still believes in higher beings, especially because I’ve had personal experiences with entities before throughout my whole life, so I’m not completely atheist. But I do believe in the mission of the satanic temple and what they are doing to be a good thing. Anyway, just keep your head up, we all have our differences and no one has to like the same things or live their lives the same way. One thing I actually like a lot about deathcore is that it has some biblically accurate lyrics and actually represents certain stories in the Bible sometimes, which is super cool. I think if people of the church would just take a minute to understand that then they wouldn’t think it’s so bad.
I too have had the same life experiences… the way Ive always explained it is I know my power over darkness, which Is why I don’t fear it….
I also once heard someone explain how if the voice of God is described as “thunder” in the Bible ,
what makes us automatically associate Heavy vocals with satan?
..Also a band like Lorna shore is KEY for proving that not all deathcore bands only talk about “evil”, in a sense of praising it,
but more so the evils we face everyday in our human experience….
So true, especially since most bands barely have anything to do with religious or satanic topics.
Their descriptions might definitely be considered a little biblical or apocalyptic, but that's rather to better portray the world they want to show in their songs. Metal mostly consists of so many emotions that aren't even supposed to be taken literally. If some part of me wants to completely rip the head off of someone because they did something really bad to me, does that make me a bad person? As long as I don't proceed with these actions, no it doesn't. And metal has always been my way of coping with my emotions, especially things like this song is just an instant relief and calmer for me, no matter how stressed or angry I am in that situation.
Fun Fact: The Vocalist from Lorna Shore is new to the band!
Have you listened to any of his old bands?
Cj is better

RIGHT!
I interpret the song as a tragedy, thematically. No glorification, simply describing a horrifying situation to be found in. The snarls at the end feel like the demons of hell receiving our unfortunate narrator, as sort of a final affirmation of the horrors depicted in the lyrics.
This is what I was thinking too
Perfect description
You know what, I was thinking the same thing but I couldn't find the best way describe the snarls at the end. How you described it was PERFECT! Kinda how I feel too when I think about all the atrocities of the world today.
Agreed, and combined with melancholy acoustic bits . . . he might have been willing and accepting of it, but then he gets there and is not so happy, hence the expletive, and the "pig demons" start tearing him apart. Seems to me that not confessing his sins was a bad call. Many would say this is Satanic, but I don't know. It isn't exactly painting an attractive picture of that.
Well said
"Those breakdowns are brutal"...indeed pastor Rob...indeed.😌
That second one thoooooo
Just to say, this particular album is 3 songs, 1. To The Hellfire, 2. To The Abyss 3. As I Return To Nothingness, the songs in order stand for 1. Life 2. Death 3. Rebirth.
huzzah! someone who's actually listened the entire concept EP ?! (shoutout to you my man!) god I always cry with "..and I return to nothingness" it's such a beautiful banger
These reactions are perfect. Because they aren't shoving anything down our throats. They are listening to the music with an open mind, no matter what the song is. This is what the metal music scene needs honestly. Since you can find a lot of people that are more leaning towards being an atheist. So watching these to give you a different perspective is a great thing.
I found the metal scene is the most gatekeeping wannabe exclusive while wanting everyone to experience the music. Yet at the same time wanting to be the edgy cool guy too good for the scene.
Hypocritical at times but still great music.
Great music shitty comunity
@@greatgallade I find almost a strange opposite sometimes though. I got more into metal and especially death and metal core that the more people I talked to about it the more inclusive and inviting they were to introduce me to more cool stuff

Hey Pastor, been watching your reactions for a long time (since Thy Art is Murder - Holy War), and while I don’t agree with most of what you say I will say that you do seem like a genuinely good guy lol. As someone who doesn’t believe in any religion: I must say that as a pastor willing to listen and discuss even topics like the one in the song Holy War, and the word play in this song, it at least shows you are willing to be open to some degree and I have the utmost respect for anyone willing to learn and see views from others eyes. Have a great day sir and keep it up!
If you haven't found it yet, they actually have done a reaction. As always it was a thorough breakdown and explanation from a Christian point of view.
This is a freakin awesome comment and I fully agree. Also he seemed to enjoy it even more (musically) ´than his son.. pastor stinkface lol :)
Totally agree
👍
I just realized, I'm the only non-Christian of my family and extended family. And I can honestly say I experience more Christian doctrine than they do through your channel and similar ones to yours.
Yeah, Pastor Rob is great because he’s not afraid to be normal and isn’t afraid to explore and appreciate art that is on the opposite side of the spectrum. I wish more Christians would learn to stop being so uptight.
Its not only in Christian, this people mind about (doctrine) is also happen in another religion, muslim too.
When they just got too blind, throw their mind, thougths, or brain lol. Then do everything like the bible said. And its .... just like misconception of religion is.

@@bagaswahyuillahi6009 I agree we can't just target Christianity for this, happens in almost all other religions.. I can respect ones faith, but that means they also need to respect ones non faith and art or whatever it might be.
delicious use of the word "doctrine"
I was listening to this song the other day and my wife walked in right at the end of the solo. All I said to her, a woman with a healthy fear of evil, was “You might want to wait before you come in, this part of the song could ruin your day.”
Pastor Robs "Stank face" is golden 😂
I think alot of musician's that do songs like this are equally telling a story to you so you don't end up on that path...
Same thought man
Wow that’s a compelling insight
Example, Black Tongue - Second Death
Exactly. Telling a tragic story does *not* mean the author thinks "hey kids, you should try this"
Yes. The ending especially makes it clear there's nothing desirable in this fate.
Im so happy you did this song. I took the lyrics as a metaphor for the things I was going though with depression. It literally KICKED me out of it. I took it as accepting the guilt and the what I understood as my mistakes. I fell deep into depression. Accept and falling deeper and deeper until something finally clicked. This song helped me so much mentality.
Im glad to see you re better bro! Hope you re doing well now my man, good and healthful recuperation for you! Stay safe!
You have to listen to Immortal by Lorna Shore now! The guitar solo in that song is so dope as well

Immortal tells a damn good story honestly
@@salmanman3771 I also love that song but I like Immortal more for it's guitar
I feel Death Portrait is WAY heavier than Immortal, and so I prefer it. Immortal repeats the chorus so many times.
@@Benobot99 yeah but it's way more melodic which is why I like it, but as also stated above, I love Death Portrait as well. That guitar during the chorus is dope 👌
I truly love that even in disagreeing with the views and lyrics of a lot of these songs you can appreciate the music and also discuss in a objective manner super refreshing so
Glad I subscribed
I love when Pastor Rob breaks down the biblical references
Thank you for this. This is the best thing I've seen. As a growing Christian, follower of Christ... I enjoy heavy metal but know the meaning of Salvation is most important. This message and video was refreshing.
As far as the song, it's always struck me as someone dying who was never Saved, but he still acknowledges Biblical things like Azrael and damnation.
Kind of the dying of an unrepentant sinner. It'd be a sad song if it wasn't so brutal, imo.
This song made me want to go back to church, it's that good...
I don't agree that this song "romanticizes" death, hell or damnation. Sure, some bands in the genre might actually hold that view legitimately, but with Deathcore, this topic is usually explored as a means of storytelling, sort of like writing from the persective of another individual, while some bands only use the topic to present some shock value into their lyrics.
Yes!!! Thank you!!!!
I think Pastor Rob was just commenting on the possible romanticising of hell or damnation. It can be spiritually harmful to some people who are very impressionable. I think he's just trying to look out for people who are none the wiser and may actually perceive it as come to the dark side it's cool and edgy.
@@Pandaface24 That's fair, I can see how that could become an issue
some believe that Hell is the true paradise. some who are Satanists dont believe in heaven or hell. Satanism is a real religion but not yet accepted because of the fears created by movies, the media and such. its just really how you see things, living your own truths. The vocalist speaks about his beliefs and is very passionate about it, and that this song reflects his own truth.
@@HELL_HOUND13 This song in no way expresses that hell is paradise.

Actually.
The tracks go 1.Life, 2.Death, 3.Rebirth.
Now go back and interpret the lyrics in each track in order in that mindset and it gives more insight to his lyrical motive. Deep stuff.

Its crazy how I got in love with this song because of a dark place I am emotionaly. And I am looking for the lyrics and the singer's performance through you tube, and I ended up in this video and God using the pastor to speak about the Truth of confessing and the declararation of The Gospel. Thanks pastor. And Thank son for this video. much love.
Y’all should check out “don’t ask don’t tell” by Chelsea grin. Killer tune!
I nearly cried in joy at how hard that was. Musically, that was like opening my ears for the first time. WOW.
If there were more Christian bands that could/would play like that. Dang.
No holding back gospel, Christ-centric messages, and deliver them with that merciless play through.
I'm still listening to The Crimson Armada and In The Midst Of Lions to fill that void.
@@donadrian_ Cool. I can't speaks for lions, but I do know that Crimson is a Muslim band though..
@@truthliberty5695 i dont think thats true. Only one member was considered to be Muslim but he is the replacement for the original singer. In fact, many of the members are Christians themselves. Yes, they pull lyrics from the Qur'an they themselves are not a Muslim band. Go listen to Impending Doom, super christian death metal.
Interesting point, and something that I have pondered - why does so much explicitly Christian rock & metal kinda suck? The problem, IMO, is that artists are often preaching and the song quality comes a distant second. A lot of political artists have exactly the same problem: crowbar-ing overbearing lyrical delivery into work that needs a different touch. The artist needs to be a bona fide genius to make this work properly, and, well, there aren't many of those.
Not saying that artists can't be religious or political, just that 'preaching' and 'good songs' are usually mutually exclusive.
FWIW I'm an atheist so no skin in this game. :) Christian metal is an interesting field as whole sections of the art form seems to be - stylistically - difficult to square with traditional 'Christian' messaging!
EDIT: Having grown up in the 70s & 80s I well remember the 'satanic panic' and mainstream US Christianity's inability to discern the difference between using demonic imagery in a fictional setting and actual devil worship. So yeah. Christian metal has an uphill struggle against it's own community too. So... do they want to please their pastors or write objectively 'better' (to an outsider) music? Tough call.
the only thing about this though is that it teeters on the line of black metal, which is a genre based on anti-Christian beliefs and messages. Deathcore isn't quite on that level, but it pushes the boundaries
I don't believe but big respect to you guys and your analysis. It's always interesting to hear your thoughts. Much appreciated!
So Lorna Shore is a band from NJ, their old lead singer Tom Barber is now the vocalist of Chelsea Grins. Lornas music is typically insanely heavy and the live shows are insane!

I agree with you so much Pastor. Never accept that you are destined to burn in Hell. I felt I was deserving of the fire earlier in my life and that would surely suffer perdition for past transgressions. But thankfully I was raised in a good Christian home and I'm slowly becoming closer to the Lord everyday.

Lead singer of Lorna Shore Will Ramos did a interview with Loudwire and mentioned y’alls channel a couple days ago. He watched your reaction. 5:20
Your analysis of the lyrics is interesting to me since it's quite literal interpretation of the lyrics like it's written as genuine thoughts of the person who wrote them. Like they are accepting damnation without regrets and writing a song about it.. And while I agree that the dark aspects like hell, Satan, demons, monsters etc. are pretty much the metal standard I feel like it's simply the image and traditon, and as such fiction. They are horror stories more than anything.

Just found this channel, interesting to have a spiritual take on this. I'm a firm believer in God and the resurrection but I do also enjoy this sort of genre to a degree. I try to avoid outright satanic stuff and have found a nice niche in Black Metal in particular that isn't all about that.

Guage- (sorry if it’s misspelled)- dang, haven’t seen you this “into” the songwriting of a song before. This song caught me off guard because I was expecting pretty normal chugs and a few riffs but they really WROTE something musical. The contrast throughout, the false and true breakdowns, knowing when to lead us on, the solo, the layering, the sheer instrumental/vocal performance...what a great song!
Inyereating point when you say you forget you like deathcore and only listen every so often. To me, there’s so much stale deathcore out there that when I come back to it, it all sounds awesome. I mean who doesn’t just something super heavy. When I listen to lots, it get boring and repetitive. I feel the “next wave” of deathcore is starting to implement melodic ideas into the formula which adds a nice variety to the genre (IMO).
Here are a few (more recent releases) groups I really enjoy that you might like to check out- Mental Cruelty, Brand of Sacrifice, Within the Ruins, Shadow of Intent, Abiotic, and Left to Suffer...and my absolute fav- Slice the Cake- Odyssey to the Gallows (they’re older)
I don’t listen to much deathcore, so I’m sure there’s many more! Hope people share their favs!
🤤Brand Of Sacrifice🤤
It’s only a sad to people who believe, I used to believe but now I don’t, accepting death is crucial to non-believers.
Love your son. His taste in metal and his knowledge was similar to my self and this was refreshing to watch.
I commented before the end of the video… SOLID closing words my bro, that truth needs to be heard consistently. 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
Would love to hear you guys react to Dark Days by Parkway Drive
Just a thought, it seems to me that metal bands tend to "romanticize" damnation as a way of rejecting religion. It's a defiance of religion. You can think of it more like anti-God more than pro-Satan, which is how I interpret this song. Of course, it is also possible that it is just a thematic thing and doesn't necessarily reflect on the band's actual views.
You said it perfectly. A lot of bands have this sound for shock value and/or as a response to a negative experience with Christianity/religion.
99% of people who make art that is seemingly “pro-Satan” aren’t actually pro-Satan. They typically use Satan as a metaphor or a symbol of defiance or freedom or morality (yes, morality). They reject the idea of a literal entity known as Satan just as much as they reject the Christian god and all other gods. For example, the overwhelming majority of satanist do not literally worship Satan as a deity or believe he is real. In an alternate reality, if the the Christian God’s adversary was a pink baby bunny rabbit, then I’m sure that reality’s version of Satanists would use this pink baby bunny rabbit in the same way as Satanists use Satan in this reality. Things/people that are actually pro-Satan (believing he LITERALLY exists) aren’t even remotely as common as some believe.
Carnifex is another blackened deathcore band but their lyrics focus mainly on depression and suicide and the idea that hell is a better alternative than continuing on with life. It’s much more about bleak hopelessness than satanic worship.
Yeah considering the band's past releases (Grimoire) I'm pretty sure this single was NOT an ad for christianity!! I like Pastor Rob but he seemed to be really quick to assume there was a religious intention in this song, and more surprisingly a biblical intention, out of all the religions.
Though I agree with your point, from God's perspective, if you aren't for Him, you're against him, whether you're pro-Satan or not, Satan gets what he wants, you being separated from the creator through deception and distractions. If you want to roll the dice with hell, I can't stop you, but I ask of you, please be patient with Christians, now and in the future who are just trying to look out for you. If you've got it all under control and don't need a savior from anything in this life, then you've got nothing to lose. Rock on friend!
