    So nice of you to fund raise for the Legion!
    What a camping experience..the ground is like a wet sponge.
    It really gets windy. It’s all wide and open exposed to the elements.
    You made it through the night without any strange occurrences..only a moist bivvy
    and the tarp seams held up. Good timing on leaving
    Take care ❤️🇨🇦🌧️

    Great video. I've got a grey one and been using it all year on Dartmoor and Snowdonia. It's brilliant! I replaced the lines with 2mm and they were good until 50mph winds and then they slipped a litttle. Am now going for 3mm which should be bombproof. Also learnt to plant the front pole right way up as mine slipped in high winds the other way around. After a second tensioning after sunset, you can go drum tight and sleep in peace.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  3 місяці тому +2

      Cheers buddy. I've bought some (I think 3mm 🤔) guy out lines so hopefully will stop the slippage. Haven't had a chance to use it again since though. Too many others to test out 🤣👍

    I once put a survival blanket over my down quilt as I was worried about condensation from the tent & could not believe how quickly the quilt got damp. That has put me off putting anything over my sleep system. Some people swear by those bivy bags though. 🤷‍♀. think i might give the tarp a try...in the middle of summer

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  9 місяців тому +1

      I think it was to do with the breathability of the bivvy. Apparently the British army goretex ones don't have that issue. Might try one of those.

  • @davidminor6537
    @davidminor6537 9 місяців тому +2

    For high wind conditions, if you have the room, extend the guylines that are taking the wind load to their maximum so the tensioners are no longer a factor. (Provided the pegs hold :) )

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  9 місяців тому +1

      Good idea. Although I had shortened them as the wind was coming under when they were longer. May habe been a pitching issue though as first time but will have a look. I've heard these guy lines slip through the tensioners and it's better to get thicker ones so may try that too. 👍

      @@NoviceWildCamper Best way to learn is to get out there. 😁I hope my first go is a bit smoother. Looks like the bivy you have is one of the waterproof types. Looks very easy gather condensation. There are more breathable types that are made to be paired with tarps. In those conditions everything would get damp anyway though.

      Cheers Gary. Yeah I just don't think the oex is as breathable as they say. Been looking at the army ones but my first choice was the alpkit hunka xl and should have gone with it. I went with the oex as someone was supposed to send me one to use that night but they didn't so had to buy something on the day. Waste of £50 🙄

  • @danos5181
    @danos5181 5 місяців тому +1

    Nice review. There is a flames creed Tyvek sleeping bag cover that would have been good to review that night. From the other reviews I read it breaths relatively well and there is very little condensation. I have a MLD Patrol tarp clone from the same company and it has performed good. However, to use it in storms with a very low pitch is highly uncomfortable (like the Trailstar). However, the Trailstar design is supposed to "shine" in extreme windy stormy weather but obviously, as your video shows, in a very uncomfortable way.

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah I was looking at that tyvek cover. Might get one as I've now got an alpkit hunka xl bivvy but it's a pain to get in and out of specially if you're under a low tarp but the tyvek one has a central zip I believe which would make life easier. One day 👍

    Well done for giving this a bash on a cold wet night. This is something I have tried and intend to try again. But as yet I don't quite 'get it', damp, draughty, dirty, kit blowing away, crawly. Interesting review, is this tarp much bigger inside than say using just the fly of the Lanshan 1+ ????

    • @NoviceWildCamper
      @NoviceWildCamper  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes way bigger. Its about 3m across and obviously you can pitch it at whatever height you like. You could easily sleep two with gear even pitched low like I had it to avoid wind. Even though the wind flattened it but that's because the guy out lines need to be thicker so I'm going to replace them. 👍
