Hi Beth, I don’t know if you’ll even see this, but just wanted to say that I love your videos! You are so positive and your interpretations and breakdowns are always so fun to watch. Tommy Karevik is hands down my favorite singer in any genre. He is incredibly talented and though he is very good in Kamelot, he is outstanding in his original (and still also current) band “Seventh Wonder” as their songs use more of his range and vocal flexibility. He’s also a wonderful human being and has been a firefighter in Sweden until he moved to Canada to be with his wife Kobra. If you’re ever looking for more of Tommy’s vocals I highly recommend checking out Seventh Wonder! Either way, all the best to you and thank you for all of the great videos and reactions!
Tommy is such a good person. In fact, he just quit his daytime job this year (as a firefighter in Sweden), to go full out with music. I think that he really deserves all this!
Tommy is also one of the main singers on Ayreon’s latest album Transitus (Simone Simons also) and other albums. He also sang in the live concert Ayreon Universe Live.
Tommy has done some great work in Ayreon as well. At some point you should have a listen to that project to. "The Day that the World breaks down" or "Everbody dies" could be a good place to start.

Yea. It's true that Tommy does get kinda overshadowed by Roy; and that's speaking from someone who's favorite singer has been Roy Khan for years. I personally like Roy more because of his versatility in the songs themselves (Each album is quite a bit different than the last) and his unique voice. I saw Delain and Kamelot (and Eklipse!) in 2013 and got to meet the members of Delain after the show. Charlotte was super nice and funny and put her arm around me for a photo. I apologized if I was sweaty and stinky, and she laughed and said, "Don't worry, I am too. That's the reason for this!" and she gestured to the hoodie and her pulled back hair. Big fan of her and Delain.

@Beth Roars, I am curious about what you think about Charlotte's breathing here. You can hear almost a gasp when she breathes in, and I am curious if this is something that the music mixers normally edit out, or if she is breathing in more quickly than usual? It's from Ayreons latest album Transitus, released this year. Or Daniels decent into Transitus medley with Tommy as Daniel and Simone Simons as the angel of death with Marcela Bovio and Caroline Westendorp as Furies. I think you'd love both of them. And Arjen, the genius behind the music, usually drops in in the comment section when he notice that someone had done a reaction video.
Hi Beth, check out Tommy along with Simone Simons from Epica in the new Ayreon project 'Transitus' very theatrical, but fantastic: Ayreon - Daniel’s Descent into Transitus Medley (Official Video)
I wonder why you are using the names for them that you are using? Charlotte Wessels is not known as Johanna even if that is actually one of her first names. Also, Tommy Karevik's name is not Paige, it's either Karevik(as he's known) or "Karevik Paige" as his civilian name goes. Paige is his wife('s middle name, not even her family name). It's just as confusing, as if I told you that Richard Tiffany was good in "Pretty Woman" - yes, technically Tiffany is part of his family name, but everyone knows him as Richard Gere... Although Charlotte's first name is actually Johanna, referring to her at the start 0:21 as Johanna is like going up to Elton John and saying "Oi Reg". Sadly I think I was the only person (judging from other comments) who picked up on this. I think I have seen a video of her stating that she finds it weird when people call her Johanna as she is so used to people using her stage name.

Here is another from Devin Townsend called Mountain Top, with Ché Aimee Dorval. If you have not heard it, I would love to see your reaction to it. It is very different to the other songs of his you have reacted to.
Charlotte and Tommy are great. This song is beautiful. On the the studio version, Troy of Nightwish is also featured. Like Nightwish, it’s hard to compare the vocalists of this band. So I just enjoy each era instead
Glad you got to #Charlotte_Wessels. When rounding out the catalog of clean singing metal frontwomen don't miss #Sabine_Edelsbacher #Chiara_Tricarico #Clementine_Delauney #Nicolette_Rosellini and so many other Italians #Maria_Mar #Elise_Bojise?
You should check Tommy Karevic's work on his band "SEVENTH WONDER", it's just mindblowing... So much higher range than Kamelot, check the "Welcome to Atlanta" DVD.
I'm going to push back a bit on the "female fronted metal" thing. I think it is a bit of it's own subgenre, and why shouldn't it be? Men and women have different sounding voices (see the video above for two wonderful examples), and what are those voices but the singers instrument, right? Saying a band is "female fronted" is just a short-form, like you might say "three piece", "chamber quartet" or "choir", because it gives you some relevant information about the band and the way they are going to sound. This can certainly make a difference to the listener, such as myself, because I prefer the sound of the female voice. There are a lot male vocalists I absolutely adore (like Tommy here), but all other things being equal, if you asked me to choose between a male and female vocalist the latter is going to get my vote at least 9 times out of 10. So if you want to sell me on a band I've never heard, saying "female fronted" is a sure way to get my attention. End of the day, like anything else, "female fronted metal band" is just a collection of words. It'd be awful if some talented young women out there let themselves be shamed into thinking that somehow diminishes them or their talent in any way. I suggest taking ownership of it instead.
The point is that "male fronted" shouldn't be seen as the default. If you're going to say a band is "female fronted", you should be calling the alternative "male fronted". Plus female fronted bands and their singers voices vary so much, it doesn't make sense to use male or female fronted as the defining characteristic. We don't seem to do this in other genres, so why do it for metal?
@@fountainPoison Why shouldn't male fronted be seen as the default when those bands are the vast majority? Until that changes, what's the inherent harm? I think there's even an argument to be made that "female fronted" as a term is a net benefit as it does call special attention to those bands. In the long run, perhaps that will inspire more women to get into making metal music because the women who are already doing it aren't hidden among the vast ocean of male fronted bands? Being the minority, atypical or even abnormal is not synonymous with bad. It's not inherently a negative, they all just mean "not the majority". Someone has to _make_ it negative, has to consciously make that determination. I'm saying don't do that. Let the changes happen organically. Think about the medical profession. You hardly ever hear "female doctor" anymore because it's just not unusual (and a doctors sex never was relevant to what they do). Women even outnumber men in many specialties. But doesn't the sex of their OB-GYN matter to a lot of women? In that case, wouldn't it be appropriate to say when recommending a certain doctor to someone that they are "a male OB-GYN"? People need to stop going out of their way to take offence to things.
@@iDEATH you're really over complicating this. Is it that big of a deal to you to keep using "female-fronted" metal band? A number of women singers in metal have expressed they don't like it and explained why. Is it so hard to respect that? It's not saying to never mention or point out that the singer in the band is a woman but a band being labeled as "metal but female-fronted" is othering rather than inclusive. A lot of times these bands with women vocalists don't get to be in the same category as other bands for no other reason than having a woman vocalist despite being otherwise identical.
@@fountainPoison No, it's not othering. Taking it that way is a conscious choice. Offence is always taken, never given. Also, as I think I was clear on in the OP, men and women singers are not "otherwise identical". Their voices, their instruments, are undeniably different. You wouldn't ask for a chello when you wanted a violin. Who doesn't put these bands in the same category? I don't even understand that. The standards are the standards, full stop. End of the day, nothing matters save for the talent and skill of the instrumentalists and vocalists. If they can't cut it, if they aren't good, then who cares about them at all? It doesn't matter what they've got between their legs, really, it only matters how they sound.
Tommy is better than Roy in my opinion. Roy is incredible, dont get me wrong, but i like Tommy alot more. His vocal agility is unmatched, and the diversity he shows in many different songs.. he is just so great!
You're one of the few. I like both for different reasons. Tommy is really agile but is a tenor and can get the higher notes more easily. Roy is a baritone and has the warmer tone when he goes up high which is difficult for a baritone to get as high as he does.
@@Sadion666 Halford singing on iron maiden would be sick LUL The way you phrased sounded like people dislike Tommy because they like Roy xD You can still have Roy as your favorite and like Tommy as well :)
@@RaLk6 Because in Kamelot Tommy started off basically imitating Roy's singing. Doing it differently than how he does in Seventh Wonder. I think nowadays he doesn't do that very much, but it's hard to wash off the stigma...
@@andraskovacs8959 That has nothing to do with anything was said before but sure. I dont think its necessarily a bad thing tho, changing too much can be really bad, they can still compose stuff that reach all tommy's talents. Most kamelot's fans don't even know tomm'y previos work either

Didn't know that. Thanks 👍
I know there are not enough people around, who even remembers that Band, butt if you want to hear a masterpiece, please check out the Band: >Menhir< and their Song: >Hildebrandslied
You should listen to Tommy with seventh wonder, Break the silence live. Such an experience...
What about some Within Temptation in the future?
Not to mention, these vocalists are under huge pressure. They are performing, how some can only perform in private. It's a gigantic feat.
Hey Beth. I'm not losing my mind... you did have a reaction to a Delain video at one point? Or did youtube make it disappear?
She kinda loves that pause button on this video
Beth, "Gamma Ray-Last Before the Storm live at Wacken 2003" pleeeeease!
man you gotta check out Seventh Wonder now! Tommy really gets to show off with that band
So when are you going to do some Delain?
Suggest either "Masters of Destiny" or "Burning Bridges" ..
How about ......................... BOTH!
Would love to hear you discuss Louis Armstrong.
Please react to Delain - Master of destiny
Here is another from Devin Townsend called Mountain Top, with Ché Aimee Dorval. If you have not heard it, I would love to see your reaction to it. It is very different to the other songs of his you have reacted to.
Love your videos! Could you do a reaction/analysis to the song Missing by Everything But The Girl? She has my favorite singing voice ever. Thanks!
Charlotte and Tommy are great. This song is beautiful. On the the studio version, Troy of Nightwish is also featured. Like Nightwish, it’s hard to compare the vocalists of this band. So I just enjoy each era instead
OK you need to check out Charlottes the diveint hearts.
Glad you got to #Charlotte_Wessels. When rounding out the catalog of clean singing metal frontwomen don't miss
#Sabine_Edelsbacher
#Chiara_Tricarico
#Clementine_Delauney
#Nicolette_Rosellini
and so many other Italians
#Maria_Mar
#Elise_Bojise?
@@iDEATH also no one says "so-and-so is a male ob-gyn". Like, that's not part of their title. People just say "so-and-so is an ob-gyn".
It doesn't matter what they've got between their legs, really, it only matters how they sound.
you should hear him with seventh wonder
Tommy is better than Roy in my opinion. Roy is incredible, dont get me wrong, but i like Tommy alot more. His vocal agility is unmatched, and the diversity he shows in many different songs.. he is just so great!
You're one of the few. I like both for different reasons. Tommy is really agile but is a tenor and can get the higher notes more easily. Roy is a baritone and has the warmer tone when he goes up high which is difficult for a baritone to get as high as he does.
@@senditkevin good point. Yes Roys voice got a unique warmth to it.
Please do a review of Tommy with his other band, Seventh Wonder, if you wanna here him i think in his true form.
8:29 Holy shit is that good
Tommy has a great voice, made great albums with kamelot however most people like the roy kahn era
Why not both ?
@@RaLk6 that's the thing, most peoplr have their preferences, same with dickinson amd halford
@@Sadion666 Halford singing on iron maiden would be sick LUL
The way you phrased sounded like people dislike Tommy because they like Roy xD You can still have Roy as your favorite and like Tommy as well :)
You should listen to seventh wonder.. Best tommy band for far..
Pliss rearct to delain - masters of destiny
I think We Are The Others would be better for Beth, considering she's UK based. The story would probably be extra meaningful for her.
You MUST react to Seventh Wonder, Tommy Karevik's band...
Please check out Sleep Token - Blood Sport (From the Room Bellow) . Possibly my most favorite vocalist out there.
We Dutchies got the best women in rock and metal, it seems.
Check out Let all Despair by Ashes of Ares
I got a real deep cut request, Toby Driver's "Gamma Knife".
Beth, Congratulations on 500K Subs.!!! Please react to Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'bout a Thing". At the end of the second & third chorus, the way he holds the word 'out' and then 'off' in the next sentence is most interesting. Please comment
Don't know any other way to get in touch, but you should check out a song called "Raining On The Sky" by a band called NAKED. Actually, the entire album is awesome. Not really recommending for the vocals only. Just great songs.
You should check out chad gray from mudvayne/hellyeah his song hush is great!!
You should react to Tommy singing "Into the Black Hole" with Ayreon.
Roy was indeed amazing, but tommy is just better in every aspect. But tommys vocals are held back in Kamelot, hear him in his own band Seventh Wonder and youll hear his real voice.
The vocal esthetics of men and women are generally very different. Let people like what they like.
