Seeing you two in here, especially actively participating in the focus scene, is like the thrill you get when the characters from one TV show you like show up in another show you like. Win!
I was not expecting Chris' amazing action shot that was teased at the beginning of the video. It is really worth the watch just for that. The fact that Chelsea also made a cameo in that scene was just the icing on the cake.
$400 for a grip almost fair enough I guess, But then $150 for the battery and $400 for the charger!!! What the hell!!! Definitely a great camera but I'm sorry charging batteries isn't that complicated, they are 100% milking people on this. That battery is just three 2500Mah 18650 cells which literally cost $5 bucks EACH! That's not even bulk prices.
As always, TCS makes another unbiased, proper review. Bravo! Loved the cameos of the Northrups and Jared Polin. It's nice to see everyone together in these videos.
Outstanding review, with beautiful shots taken. It was fun to see some other YT community members testing this camera alongside you. Well done as always.
Wow - awesome review! I didn't want it to end. My D850 is arriving Friday. GREAT shot Chelsea got of you while jumping over the hill. Thank you for your great work!
No pain no gain...That photo Chelsea took of you, Chris, is epic! I hope that you are okay...I think the bag affected your balance otherwise you probably would have stuck the landing. I appreciate that it was included in the review. It was certainly informative, interesting, hilarious and entertaining. Dang! I knew I saw Jared in the group!
You guys really knocked it out of the park with this review. I'll probably be taking delivery of my D850 in a few days and I feel like I have an excellent idea of what to expect just having watched this. Thank you!
Actually I went from the Nikon D810 to mirrorless (FujifilmXT2) and going back to DSLR (D850). There is just something about the way a DSLR feels that mirrorless doesn't offer.
Hi guys - a thorough and thoroughly entertaining review! I think Chris got more air than the motocross riders on that jump. I hope this is a successful camera for Nikon given the features they’ve loaded on to it, but as an A7s owner (and an enthusiast rather than pro shooter) would personally not go back to size and weight of DSLR. Very keen to see your GH5 review - I’m thinking seriously of moving from the Sony system to Panasonic. The only things that give me pause are questions over stills capability and how sorely I’d miss the full frame aesthetic (love shallow depth of field). Thanks again guys!
I have conducted numerous lab tests and can safely say that the D40 still has better resolution when viewing at 100%. The pop up flash is also great for photographing bugs/ matchsticks etc.
Thank you for another excellent video! I think what distincts this channel from most of the others is that you don't do bad or even mediocre quality videos at all. Keep on the good work! :)
Great review, but disappointed not to see any climbers on Smith Rock (and crops into them). How about a Sony A99 vs. Nikon D850 comparison for best of the end of an era?
Stevo Philo I dont know why experts like him starts mirrorless vs dslrs debate?Let people buy whatever they will dont tell them one system will going to die. Hardcore wildlife photographers will always choose dslrs over mirrorless cameras but the way reviewers are giving opinion it seems like dslrs are just waste and mirrorless cameras are better but technically dslrs can everything that a proper mirrorless can but a mirrorless cameras cant do a few thing that dslrs are doing. No one talks about battery life, durability, advantages of OVF over EVF but whatever mirrorless camera do better than dslrs they point out.Not the best way to judge a camera the way they judge, evfs are videographers thing and d850is mainly is photography camera which shoots great videos. Just go into wilderness and wait for hours looking through viewfinder for a certain animal and then make a judgement whether a EVF is better or OVF.
@ avinashrai - he gave us his opinion based on both experience and also customer buying patterns at the store. Can't really see anything wrong with that. Are you saying he's wrong and mirrorless aren't replacing DSLR's? If so you're living in the land of de Nile.... it doesn't matter anyway - your DSLR (and mine) will still work for years to come.
avinashrai11141 , well put mate. The biggest problem I find with Mirrorless is the batterylife. I think the mirrorless fanboys are more brand fanboys than actual shooters.
I also use the 24-120mm for almost everything. It's a great lens for general purpose, and portraits, too. It isn't as sharp as primes, and there's a little chromatic aberration with backlighted subjects, but that can be overcome.
Great review, I am one of the many folks waiting for my D850 to come, the day I decided to buy it just happened to be the day you were at Smith Rock and I can see Smith Rock from my house. So, I took that as a sign. One of the main reason I chose the D850 was for its video features, I am slightly bummed that Nikon did not add focus peaking the 4k, but for the way I shoot my outdoor videos I think the D850 is going work awesome for me (coming from a D750). Besides the my UA-cam channel I am a photographer as well so I am really looking forward to many of the other usability feature the D850 has like more cross type focus points and the joystick (again coming from the D750). I am not sure if the more megapixels is really a big deal to me but I will have evaluate that for myself once I start using it. I do have some DX lenses lying around from my D5300 days so I was thinking I might be able to make some use out of them and still get shots with adequate amount of megapixels. I realize that since video is big part of what I do that moving to Sony might be a good choice but since I already have an investment in Nikon lenses it was more economical for me at the moment to stick with Nikon, while still moving me forward with some great video features. Again thanks for the great review it only makes me more excited to get my hands on the camera. Jason
To be honest, although the DR expressed in this edited photo is amazing, I had just the opposite feeling as you had. For me it looked totally artificial, overprocessed, and unattractive. Basically like the typical overprocessed HDR. I tend to process my pictures more subtle... And I'd do so even with this DR beast D850 in my hands, which hopefully will be the case one day in the future.
Absolutely stunning review! Thanks guys! It's refreshing to see Nikon throwing everything into their latest DSLRs unlike some (*cough* Canon) but I do fear ( like you do ) that it may be too little too late vs mirrorless cameras.Keep up the good work guys. Love you ;)
One of the best UA-cam channels I have seen. You guys do a great job. I was excited to see this review. I am still a hobby photographer, so I will be keeping my D610, but the D850 is really cool.
Personally, I think slt tech is the way forward for SLRs as live view through the viewfinder is a major plus as is less moving parts, plus size can be small, the a99ii for instance is a small SLR/slt camera with all the benefits of mirrors and much more. Thankfully sony has re commited to A mount and I really look forward to future incarnations. To Sony, listen, lenses, allow third parties to use hybrid af, it's annoying having all that af ability and not a single lens to use it. Sony lens are way too expensive for A mount, that has to change. Very nice video guys. Keep up the awesome work. 😀
Another fantastic, comprehensive, informative and balanced review. Yours is my goto channel when I want to hear it like it is with no bias on sales like 90% of the others out there.Great work, guys.
I switched from Nikon Full-Frame to Canon 80D because of the much better Video and life view af. As soon as canon releases a dual pixel CMOS AF Crop- or Full-Frame Mirrorless with professionell build and a great EVF i´ll ditch DSLRs forever. But i must say. It was a great time. Thank you Jordan and Chris for you honest reviews.
This was probably your best edit yet. Getting cameos of Tony and Chelsea, Da Fro (Jared Polin) and others in here was great. We have been waiting for a camera like this . I think Tony mentioned last week that he might get one of these cameras.. Sad to see that its not all there yet for video, though really is a great all around camera it seems. We shoot mainly video with our older Nikon 7100's - been waiting to see what Nikon came out with and this camera might be our next purchase. Keep up the great work.
Currently have the D810 and the D850 seems hyper capable minus the video features . Will hold out for the FF mirrorless from Nikon and hope they deliver .
Chris - great video, I'm sold! But a comment on your closing remarks re: mirrorless bodies eventually making SLRs obsolete. The minor weight saving of a mirrorless body is simply not enough for many photographers to make that a reason to switch. Further (and I think crucial to the argument) when I spend hour after hour watching wildlife, sports etc.. I don't want my experience to be via a screen. I don't care how good the resolution, I'm not interested in having life experiences viewed virtually on TV! An SLR is like binoculars or a spotting scope, you get to see the actual animal, the athlete magnified and for real. If all you're interested in is the shot itself, then fine go mirrorless, but for the large number of us for whom photography is part of a lifestyle and a way to view the world, an optical viewfinder simply has no substitute.
Muchas gracias por su trabajo. He visto claramente reír a Chelsea y nosotros también lo hicimos, esperando que no te hubieras lastimado te enviamos un gran abrazo desde el norte argentino.
Good job guys...saving my bucks for the D850, yes, I prefer the pop up flash, but your technical synopsis was amazingly simple and straight to the point...
You mention that the pictures have a tendency to get darker than expected, it's also the same thing I've experienced with the D500, and it's not good, to say the least.
Great Review guys! like how you put so much content in, one thing that caught my eye was how much you used the 300mm lens and how well it worked for pretty much everything you took photos of, very nice!
God I miss Bend. Coming from rainy UK was astonished how aggressively dry the air was, but really beautiful country. Had a few wonderful holidays there eight years ago, and a magical time photographing a cloud inversion on Smith Rock with the old, beloved Nikon D40x. Enjoy the Deschutes Brewery beers, guys?
One thing I would have liked for video test is the use of a video lcd viewfinder adapter as it has double resolution compared to the older Nikon bodies and it ha the advantage of giving you another point of contact for steadier shots in video.
Fantastic review as usual. Love you for your great but mostly unbiased reviews regardless who the manufacturers is/are. Thank you for that. Compliments from Vancouver Island, Canada :)
So apparently the camera is still nightblind in Live View? I wonder how Pentax and Olympus cameras can utilize live view boost for night shooting and Nikon's newest body still can't. That was one of the most important features I had hoped for. Composing in low light is still going to be a hassle then? Too bad. Guess I still have to look for a used D810A.
The D850 seems insanely awesome. The only problem is that it's a DSLR (and this is coming from a Canon user with a large amount of L glass). I'm basically the guy you mentioned at the end of the video... I'm moving on to mirrorless (already have an A7RII and I just purchased an A9). Speaking of the A9... when are we going to get a full review of that camera? Thanks again for the great work!
@4:30 of the video; Chris, D850 is not "exposing" darker, but the sensor is superior, and show details and tonal transitions which D750 could never see because it was clipping them, as D810 did, etc. Images out of D850 contain all precious information, some ~1stop overall less clipping in shadows and speculars together. D850 kicks the Medium Format in the belly, seriously, its speed, versatility, sensor and processing are superior to anything there right now. Thank for the review.
great video. was entertaining, good review and information. love the song selections and seeing other familiar faces. Can't help but think of Nick while watching this :P and!.................................... 15:45 Chris really loves Nikon. Humping the camera and a table full of Nikkor glass
Great video, thanks for the info. Why no comparison to the 5DSR? I would say Canon has two bodies that should be evaluated against the D850, one higher and one lower MP.
a) Great review. I'm mirrorless but as soon as I can, I'm going D850, and b) EPIC FACE-PLANT!!! You're lucky you didn't break something. Hope you're okay Chris!
Why are you trying to influence his buying decision? Seriously. What do you get out of it? Do you suck so badly at photography that you need others to buy the same stuff as you to validate your choices?
Roberto Pavan It's always good advice to wait out the hype, no matter what you're buying. I don't understand why you took offense to his advice? Switching systems has lots of hidden costs so to go back and forth (and back and forth) might not be a good idea.
I've gotta say: Chris's and Jordan's reviews have the most dynamic range in the biz! Thumbs up for them. Bravi! (Italian correct plural for bravo btw).
Very nice review, super complete and even if it's long it did not feel like it. For me, the video is about interviews right now, and the full frame and the manual directed focus (meaning I focus manually) is part of the experience. I don't know if this is the last great DSLR from Nikon, but it certainly looks like ti will be my last one. All point that I am going to love it. Maybe that is the reason Nikon did not hold back, some people will not like the transition, and in the meanwhile, they will have a good reason to STAY with Nikon. It was nice to see Chelsea, She and Tony have a very positive "aura" or "persona" to them. You may want to do a colaraboration in the future.
GORGEOUS shooting to both of you! Yall make the most beautiful videos on YT. Great content, of course!
Tony & Chelsea Northrup yall? Thought you were northerners lol
Seeing you two in here, especially actively participating in the focus scene, is like the thrill you get when the characters from one TV show you like show up in another show you like. Win!
My two favorite channels in the same place!
this has to be Chelsea. Tony would never say "Yall"
I see what you're saying, but only when he vapes.
I was not expecting Chris' amazing action shot that was teased at the beginning of the video. It is really worth the watch just for that.
The fact that Chelsea also made a cameo in that scene was just the icing on the cake.
shit yes, she wasnt sure if it was ok to laugh. priceless.
Her look of shock was priceless
$400 for a grip almost fair enough I guess, But then $150 for the battery and $400 for the charger!!! What the hell!!! Definitely a great camera but I'm sorry charging batteries isn't that complicated, they are 100% milking people on this. That battery is just three 2500Mah 18650 cells which literally cost $5 bucks EACH! That's not even bulk prices.
You guys are the only photography channel on YT I dont mind watching the entire video. Very entertaining and informative content!
As always, TCS makes another unbiased, proper review. Bravo! Loved the cameos of the Northrups and Jared Polin. It's nice to see everyone together in these videos.
Thanks Chris and Jordan for the awesome, comprehensive and unbiased D850 review. Keep it up guys.
Outstanding review, with beautiful shots taken. It was fun to see some other YT community members testing this camera alongside you.
Well done as always.
What I really like about you guys is that you make honest and informative reviews. Great information and recommendations.
Some of the best shots I have seen so far in any camera reviews! kudos to Chris Niccols. Keep up the good work!!
Wow - awesome review! I didn't want it to end. My D850 is arriving Friday. GREAT shot Chelsea got of you while jumping over the hill. Thank you for your great work!

The quality and presentation of this out door review is utterly magnificent ! Well done .

You guys really knocked it out of the park with this review. I'll probably be taking delivery of my D850 in a few days and I feel like I have an excellent idea of what to expect just having watched this. Thank you!
Awesome review, guys. Both on the stills and video capabilities. Very thorough, detailed, and very professional.
I had to watch this out of sight from my beloved X-T2 to avoid any feelings of inadequacy; there’s always something new and sexy coming out.
What an excellent video review, so full of information and useful opinions. You guys really are my must see video reviews of new kit.
Actually I went from the Nikon D810 to mirrorless (FujifilmXT2) and going back to DSLR (D850). There is just something about the way a DSLR feels that mirrorless doesn't offer.
Yes big and heavy and unfortunately no EVF and eye focus!
Mirrorless is like holding a computer to your face. And you need an ammo belt of batteries to get through the day.
2 to 3 batteries are enough for me and do not weigh much and are small and fit easily into the pocket of my pants!
And then the second the XT-3 is announced you'll go back to mirrorless.

Hi guys - a thorough and thoroughly entertaining review! I think Chris got more air than the motocross riders on that jump.

I have conducted numerous lab tests and can safely say that the D40 still has better resolution when viewing at 100%. The pop up flash is also great for photographing bugs/ matchsticks etc.
do you think it is because of bigger buckets (pixels) due to lower resolution of 6 MP (in D40) ?
Thank you for another excellent video! I think what distincts this channel from most of the others is that you don't do bad or even mediocre quality videos at all. Keep on the good work! :)
Great review, but disappointed not to see any climbers on Smith Rock (and crops into them). How about a Sony A99 vs. Nikon D850 comparison for best of the end of an era?
Not really sure why people compare the D850 to the a7rii when the a99ii is the closer comparison. It's like everyone forgot about that camera.
Stevo Philo I dont know why experts like him starts mirrorless vs dslrs debate?Let people buy whatever they will dont tell them one system will going to die. avinashrai11141 how? Lets wait a bit, AS soon AS The a9 has some proper wildlife glass, i dont See why not use it.
avinashrai11141 Your opinion on evfs is bullshit, really.
@ avinashrai - he gave us his opinion based on both experience and also customer buying patterns at the store. Can't really see anything wrong with that. 17:29 Best photo in the review, and it really shows the great dynamic range of the camera!
MoutainGuitarrist Breathtaking, like an old master by Renoir?

Great camera work and editing Jordan! Inspired by the camera and new location no doubt. Nice job by both you guys.
Personally, I think slt tech is the way forward for SLRs as live view through the viewfinder is a major plus as is less moving parts, plus size can be small, the a99ii for instance is a small SLR/slt camera with all the benefits of mirrors and much more. So happy you came to my town to shoot this, I wish I had known and that I could have met you guys, great video!
Another fantastic, comprehensive, informative and balanced review. Yours is my goto channel when I want to hear it like it is with no bias on sales like 90% of the others out there.Great work, guys.
Best camera review you can find on the internet. Great job guys.
If only Canon tried this hard to give consumers what they want...
Great review video!
Oh man I wish I knew you guys were coming to Bend! I would have loved to meet up and show you some of my favorite spots!
I switched from Nikon Full-Frame to Canon 80D because of the much better Video and life view af. As soon as canon releases a dual pixel CMOS AF Crop- or Full-Frame Mirrorless with
professionell build and a great EVF i´ll ditch DSLRs forever.
But i must say. It was a great time.
Thank you Jordan and Chris for you honest reviews.
Yay Bend, Lived there for 21 years. Right now it is clear as a bell, fires have been soaked with rain.
You guys really do the best (and most symphatic) reviews out there. keep up your work :)
Very very nice video... One thing to mention is the D850 has some very interesting features for shooting products. It is very very specific.
Great video guys! Love you both!
Thanks for sharing. Without doubt the best and most detailed review of the 850 so far. If only other UA-cam channels could do as well as CameraStore!
This was probably your best edit yet. Getting cameos of Tony and Chelsea, Da Fro (Jared Polin) and others in here was great. We have been waiting for a camera like this . We shoot mainly video with our older Nikon 7100's - been waiting to see what Nikon came out with and this camera might be our next purchase. Keep up the great work.
Sounds awesome. I can find out for myself if Nikon ever gets its act together and fills the preorders.
Currently have the D810 and the D850 seems hyper capable minus the video features . Will hold out for the FF mirrorless from Nikon and hope they deliver .
I just watched this entire 30+ minute vid with no intention of buying, or even interest in, the 850.
Effing love you guys.....
I am concerned about the D850 shutter life ,do you think I will need a new shutter like every few years
Chris - great video, I'm sold!
LOL, good for Jordan for dusting you off Chris. And a big thumbs up for you Chris for having the confidence to put the clip in.
That was an excellent, comprehensive hands-on Chris and Jordan! Thank you :)
Great review as usual. Hilarious impression of an off road bike by Chris. And good shots too.
Great review guys. I hope you both get well soon.
An excellent and so helpful review, mate. Thank you indeed.
One thing I would have liked for video test is the use of a video lcd viewfinder adapter as it has double resolution compared to the older Nikon bodies and it ha the advantage of giving you another point of contact for steadier shots in video.
@9:40 min, D850 actually has *improved* 3D tracking and continuous focus over the D5 and D500.
your Tony&Chelsea+Fro+mime easter eggs are just great
We go to Bend every summer. Love it down there.
Best "honest" review about this camera on YT, thank you. And yes, I agree - the D850 is an absolutely amazing camera for stills.
I have subscribed.
Fantastic review as usual. Love you for your great but mostly unbiased reviews regardless who the manufacturers is/are. Thank you for that.
Compliments from Vancouver Island, Canada :)
Always great work. The video features have me most intrigued but not sure this will bring me back to SLR shooting.
Great shouout to the A99ii A fantastic camera.
I'm not even thinking about buying, but watched anyway for the entertainment value. Great, truthful review, guys.
Best field test to date. Need more crossover work with T&C and Jared in the future
The cameos in this is amazing.
I hope you visited Sparks Lake, Smith Rock and Tumalo Falls.
It's been 5 years. Camera is down to 2000 dollars refurbished on Amazon. Would you recommend this even today?
I was wondering what happened to Jordan's right hand fingers...
The D810 looks the same as the D850
The light up buttons are awesome I wish Panasonic will do this with the gx9.
this is making me glad I have a D3s. I hate how the newer camera bodies are so small now (compared with my old D70)
Great review, guys. Looked like you had a lot of fun making it!
I really love your reviews and this is one of the best one.
Especially shooting at dark night is the most exciting scene.
Wow, a Fro and Northrups, along with you Canucks. A triple threat! :)
Chelsea Northrop's cunning attempt to take out the UA-cam competition nearly succeeded, fortunately Chris failed to break his hair-do
great video. was entertaining, good review and information. love the song selections and seeing other familiar faces. Can't help but think of Nick while watching this :P
and!....................................
15:45 Chris really loves Nikon. Humping the camera and a table full of Nikkor glass
Great noise when you fell lol. It was fun seeing all the photo UA-cam floating about. I hope you all had a few beers after
Thanks for the detailed review Chris?
Chris, you look awesome on the jumping photo!
Hugely fantastic video, guys! Thanks for covering so many aspects.
Wonderful review
Great video, thanks for the info. Why no comparison to the 5DSR? I would say Canon has two bodies that should be evaluated against the D850, one higher and one lower MP.
29:58 boy were you wrong.. that D850 had a huge waiting list. Even last year it again had a long waiting list. D850 was and is the best DSLR ever.
What about the D810...comparison??
@@nickreid5939 - D810 also had a waiting list, but supply wasn’t much of an issue like now
the D850 is the game changer photography has been waiting for.....
Came here after Chris, Jordan and Ted podcast 😂
haha, it was a bad scene for Chris and his leg. I think it's still a little messed up. But, it made for good UA-cam. ;)
Great video..i've always just prefered tamron lenses over sigma but both very competent..looking foward to your Sony Rx10 mk4 review!!!
a) Great review. I'm mirrorless but as soon as I can, I'm going D850, and b) EPIC FACE-PLANT!!! You're lucky you didn't break something. Hope you're okay Chris!
Think about the future and think about it some weeks so you're not hit by the hype!
You caught some legit air there, Chris. Great review!
I've gotta say: Chris's and Jordan's reviews have the most dynamic range in the biz! Thumbs up for them. Bravi! (Italian correct plural for bravo btw).
how does the Nikon D850 compare to the Canon 5DSR for image quality and dynamic range?
Great review, Jordan doing some fantastic framing
Fantastic review. Looks like the D850 will be my next camera.
Impressive jump! From TCSTV to the Olympics!!!
another great professional video from you two.
Great Video from the two of you, as always! That Motochris-Shot is amazing, though! Kudos to Chris and (was that Chelsea?) for capturing it!
Such a great review. Only one question: Is there a mirrorless today that comes close to compete with D850? I guess no?
