I have the D500 and D800 so should have a flying start, but acquiring the D850 sends me back to school. What a camera! Instruction books always confuse me and if I look for some genuinely informed video presentations, the videos are mostly never complete and tend to be unstructured.. So your clear and very comprehensive run through is a dream “go to “ for me. Very many thanks....many hours of frustrating hunting for information has been saved.
Thank you for explaining the use of the Nikon Settings. I laughed when you said, “If you can remember how you got to that setting.” That was a relief to hear. I thought I had a bad memory.
Maarten, I recall viewing your review of the Nikon D500. I indicated then that it was unequivocally the best review of the camera I had seen. Your review help cement my decision to purchase the D500. This time around, I went ahead and purchased the D850 to replace my D810 before seeing your review of the D850. Yet, reviewing it now, I find it just as informative, well thought out, superbly presented, and quite frankly yet one of the finest reviews I've seen. Thank you again.
If that’s the official answer, it’s clearly bogus. For the photographer who forgets to turn off his camera, the preventative setting should be somewhere in the thousands.
What an amazing review and tutorial. Amazing. I own and use the Nikon D750 and see no reason to upgrade, (I'm no pro and the outlay is simply unjustifiable), however this is a dream camera! Thank you so much Maarten. You truly are the best reviewer on the web!
I should say honestly that Nikon should be glad to have you as a reviewer you have a very natural style doing this and is very detailed that kept me quite in focus for the whole episode of this review. Great?

Thank you for a great review. I watched it three times today. I photograph catalogue jewelry and it was a great help for really using my new D850. Thank you again
You have a very calm, soothing, voice. *thumbs up* from me :) I just purchased a D800, used (naturally), a few months ago, but I still like to watch videos of what the new cameras offer :) Thank you for an enjoyable review :)
Great video, I haven't purchased the D850 yet, but when I do i will come back to review this video again, as it seems to be the most in depth video I have seen on the 850. thanks for a great explanation of the Nikon D850.
Great job Maarten! I have been shooting with Nikon's for a while now and purchased a D610 2 years ago and recently upgraded to the D850 (after became available) and really appreciate the thoroughness of your review. I will be using the review as a reference. Thank You.
Another very nice video. I remember watching your review of the Sony RX10III at about the time I purchased it (my first "real" camera) and now I stumbled across this review after ordering the D850. As always I find your method of reviewing very meticulous, informational and entertaining. Though in this particular video I miss a verdict on the camera overall. Thanks for the nice video and I am looking forward to your future work.
Nlce job I've been looking at the 850 . Nikon has come out with two mirrorless but they dont seem to be replacements for the 850 so far unless your into video. I think this is a choice Nikon made so that the next mirrorless will be more on par to the 850 or surpass it. Whether that camera shows its' face near xmas or sometime next year hard to know since I dont follow Nikon that closely. I know it is still one step behind. My guess would be the next camera will be built stronger have a higher 50 mp or higher chip. Dual mem card slot and fix some of the complaints on the other two. So I figure the z6-7 are the transitional models. Since I am not a pro the 850 should last me a few years fine then if the next best mirrorless is out I can trade it in. Thank you for the review.
Thank you very much for this profound and detailled description! So well done! Shooting with D800 / D810 / D5 on a daily base this review was extremely helpful and precise!
Maarten, just a quick note to say thanks for the in-depth, sensible and concise review. I've taken the plunge and the D850 is now on order and the D810 will be passed on to somebody else. Great video too, thank you again, and keep up the great work!
Awesome review! The last optical viewfinder camera before electronic screens take over EVERYTHING we look at? Sad. I need to really save up... and take two.
I could live with that. I think I read that Nikon really wants the best EVF experience on its upcoming mirrorless cameras.... so maybe they will copy the idea that the best EVF is one that is PAIRED WITH AN OVF. Or maybe standalone OVFs could plug in and integrate with the mirrorless EVF cameras as add-on pieces?
Great review. I’m glad I watched because I’m now convinced that I don’t need this camera. There’s just too much to wrap my head around. Does anyone really need all these features? I suppose so, but not me. I will admit it’s a wonderful piece of technology.
You have such a unique and pleasant approach to your content! It’s always uplifting to experience your videos! This one is just as informative and insightful as your D500 video! I ended up buying that D500 after watching many videos about that unit! I don’t regret it one bit. It’s by far the best camera I’ve ever had the pleasure to own but watching this one could be dangerous ;-) I mean that with great affection! It’s very apparent you love the craft as much as I do!
If this is the last dslr to be made by Nikon is it a bad time to upgrade and spend the money on it? Is holding out for the Nikon Mirrorless a better option? Loved the video and info. Thanks so much!
I appreciate the kind words, thanks. Well, yes and no - if Nikon gets it right, it could be fabulous - on the other hand not many first generation products solve all the problems. I'm wait and see on this one. However, I would have no hesitation in purchasing the D850.
Maarten..... a question for you, does this camera have a factory reset button facility so basicaly if you make a mess of setting the camera up, you can revert all the settings back as to when the camera came out of the box? excellent presentation and review!!!!
Not a full reset as some do (so you don't reset the time, the wifi, etc), but there are several menu sections where a return to default settings can be done.
You man are awesome!!!!! one hell of a clever and talented guy....... this is my next camera as was told by a friend this set up of equipment is in the top 5 in world for excellence........ you have confirmed that and your hands on view is first class although i will admit to watching and taking it into my rather average brain at the 0.75 speed!!!
Mr. Heilbron you've just earned my respect, (above all), my like and my subscription. You sir along with a few (no more than a few unfortunately), other presenters, are a breath of fresh air in a world full of garbage videos in YT. I am amazed by how methodical, clear , precise and agonizingly factual your review process is, and also loved your scientific approach to the more technical aspects of this presentation. I really was very pleasantly surprised , as I thought that I have seen it all before. If I had to rate your review on the D850 I would happily give it a flawless 10 out of 10. Great staff thanks for sharing, keep em rolling and we are here to enjoy, thanks again and god bless.
Wow! What a pleasure to read your kind and generous words - thank you very much. I do assume that I should take "agonizingly factual" as a compliment? And I'll pass your comment along to the staff.
Amazing review, love it. That's the kind of review people should do it, not pushing anyone to buy anything, but showing with great details what's good, what's not so good, and so on. I really enjoy your review, thank you. I don't know if I miss, if not, that would be the only thing missing, how bad is to work with the files, since I assume 46mb would creat monster files and that might generate a problem, like a new computer, external drives, etc... I'm don't know if it is the case, I'm just assuming, but that could be a big factor some people, since it would increase substantially the investment, it would be for me.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Yup, they're big files - but really, the cost of memory cards, or an additional hard drive should be affordable if you're buying this camera.
Well, I just saw your review on the Fuji XH1 and since I sold all my equipment, I might buy Fuji instead. Not sure yet, I still suspect that Nikon will announce either or both, APS-C and Full frame mirrorless camera and if they follow the steps of the D850, it will be the camera. I use Nikon since the F3hp, when I jumped from my Minolta. Same thing happens back then, I manage to sell all my equipment to a very good price. So now, I'm again free to decide where to go next and if the XH1 is as good on real life as it is on paper, it will probably be my next move. I want to wait for Nikon, because I really want full frame, but if there's now announcement by the CP+2018, I'll the Fuji. Fuji has being a great temptation since the XT-1. I love the system because of the lenses, they are gorgeous, I love the dials, Ergonomics it just feel way more home then with the new DSLR's. Thanks again for your work, I really enjoy your reviews.
great informative review , im just waiting for my D850 to be delivered and found this video this is my dream camera been saving a while to get it plus a couple of lenses nikkor 24-120mm f4 and sigma 14-24mm f2.8 im mainly a landscape cityscape photographer upgrading from the D7100 i got back in 3013 on release always dreamed of going full frame and now the price has come down enough for a two lens purchase along with the body thank you for making this review instruction video much appreciated
I love your reviews. ive had this camera for almost a year an you took me places I never knew existed. im not a video buff and now I might never be. thank you sir. I just need towatch this 40 more times and figure out how you got tosome of these places.im doing very well with it on the picture side but my brain hurts now. great vid. I intend to watch all your reviews and tutorials. your video on the 72oo was grat also. im on my 8th Nikon and hope to see all of them. id love to see one on the d3 and 810. I kn ow the d3 is a stretch. thank you so much fo all the time you must have put into this.
Having these videos is great for future reference. Seeing as though most early digital cameras don't have such breakdowns and definitely not this high quality. Leaving a Nikon in its ON position uses next to no power, so leaving it on, you can have battery display and it's always ready instantly. Simply leave all meter reset options to default ie, direction pad.
@@dct124 While that advice works up to a point for DSLR cameras as long as you don't use live view, it's not really good advice for mirrorless cameras.
@@MaartenHeilbron Nope, you can still do it with mirrorless. Maybe not other brands but definitely Nikon. If you use LV and have changed the limit to unlimited or VF always On, then yes, it'll drain. But in it's default settings, shouldn't be a problem. It's the equivalent power draw of a Quartz watch when sleep, in the On position. When I had my Z50, I also turned on airplane mode just in case. Maybe experiment but I can tell you I've had the same experience on a D200, D300, D3s, P7700, D5100, DF, and Z50 since 2005.
@@dct124 Leaving the camera "on" and waiting for the power save mode to turn it off is clearly less energy efficient that just turning it off. I also doubt whether that saves any time.
Great review; thanks. I subscribed. Question: If I shoot a picture in FX mode and crop, is quality the same as shooting in DX mode and not cropping? Also, what is advantage of shooting video in DX instead of FX mode? Again, thanks!
Thanks for your kind words, and your subscription. Yes, doing a manual crop from an FX image is (more or less) the same as using the camera to crop to DX - you are creating a lower resolution image from lower pixels. The advantage of shooting in DX mainly applies to video, where with a minimal loss of quality (even 4K is only 8 megapixels) you can extend the reach of your lens. For stills, I'd always prefer to capture everything from the sensor and crop as needed in editing. Hope this helps.
Thanks Maarten, another amazing review. I believe Nikon did great job with this camera, it is really pro camera, amazing for wedding photography, for sports specially with the grip and 9 FPS, also I see it wildlife camera when we turn the DX mode and get the benefit of the large view finder. Thanks again for this nice review. Your channel one of the channels inspired me to create my channel. Thanks.
i shoot with sony, canon and nikon bodies and they are all great cameras that give excellent results, however my sony SLT A mount camera bodies have two major features that lead the pack, first the Electronic viewfinder that allows you to see the finished product before you actually shoot the image which opens the door for many many other features and second is the body stabilization...........i shoot for pleasure....i want to thank you for all your help..
There are many cameras - all mirrorless cameras for example - that provide the electronic viewfinder function you describe. And there are also many cameras that provide stabilization, optical, in-body and a combination. I would agree those are interesting and important features for many photographers. Thanks for your note.
Excellent review. It helped me to decide not to buy the professional battery for the grip as for me the gain would be marginal. I really appreciated the demonstration of shutter and buffer, which enabled me to arrive at a considered conclusion. Thank You!
First of all, thank you for your excellent review of the D850, it must have taken a lot of time and dedication. I have a few questions, and I'm sure you have the right answers in stock! 1. When SnapBridge receives the pictures from the D850, is it only possible to transfer .jpeg's, or are you able to transfer RAW files too? 2. What was your setup to record your D850 menu? Thanks in advance
It’s always my pleasure - and thank you for your kind words and recognition of the effort involved. 1) JPEGS only (2MB size or original) 2) I use an Atomos Shogun from the HDMI.
Thanks for your video reports. I am impressed "JUST GOT A NEW CAMERA. MY QUESTION IS with D850 camera, which type of Lense is better to take a nice Still picture of 1/2/inch glossy tissue slide"?
A pleasure to read your kind words. I'm not sure I understand what a "glossy tissue slide" is, but if it's a small object (going by the 1/2") a macro lens would be the best option.
love the review - just to chime in on the reason that a burst rate limit is put in: presumably this is to stop your camera actually shooting thousands and thousands of frames if you accidentally leave it on in your bag and something is pressing against the shutter release button? That's what i always figured any way!
yes - exactly. The reason it's 200 is because that's enough to keep people happy but not so many that in case the shutter gets pushed down in your bag that the camera just keeps taking photos over and over.. In the video you said you were "still not sure why a limit is needed". So i'm fairly certain that's why the limit is needed :D
If that is the reason, and I’ll note that no other manufacturer seems to be concerned about this, the limit could certainly be larger than the 100-200 limit imposed here.
I have no idea, maybe it would overheat the sensor or the processor? Maybe there’s some legacy issue or a capricious and arbitrary manager? Maybe there’s a superstition?
Thanks for the kind words. It's more than OK, but as a video shooter - and I don't mean to imply that the D850 isn't a more than capable video camera - I prefer mirrorless, which seem to be happier to shoot video than a DSLR. I'm not convinced of any need to have 40+megapixels, or full frame, so If you were to put all three on the table in front of me, and tell me they were the same price, I'd ask if I could have the A7 III instead. That said, If I owned a D850, I would not be trading it in for either the A9 or the A7R III. But that would be true of all three. Does that help?
Cheers from Mississauga. You are the #1. Not even half a second waste. Hopefully I'll meet you one day on the street during your work session... Great job. Thanks

Why don't you have more subscribers is beyond me Mr Maarten... Maybe kindness and thoroughness is boring for people nowadays. You really should have at least 100000 subscribers, hopefully that happens sooner than later. Looking forward to your Sony Rx0 review. Take care.
That’s very kind of you - I’m very happy with the status of my channel on all levels. I hope to get to that before the end of the year ... the next Sony is RX10 IV, which is on its way.
Utterly brilliant review ! If my school and university lecturers were as good as you , education would have been enjoyable rather than just a means to an end .......... Well done :-)
Fantastic video as always Maarten. I need a suggestion from you, My areas of interests in photography are Macro, Landscapes, street and environmental portraits. Being a graphic designer I’m very particular about quality of image I get. Currently I’m using Fujifilm X-T2 and quite happy with it, yet I feel not good enough for landscapes and Astro photography. Currently I have 35mm Lens, is it worth investing further on Fuji lenses as the cost of Fuji and Nikon FX lenses are almost similar. Or... Should I invest in D850 or wait for Nikon FF mirrorless? Request your suggestions sir.
That's very kind of you to say, thank you. Yes, there are good lenses for those needs, although you might consider an extension tube for macro work. The 23mmF2 is good for street, it's small and fast (both aperture and focus).
Hello sir...I am planning to buy a new DSLR body and I would like to know your suggestions. I like shooting nature, landscapes, bird, wildlife and sometimes monuments, and I am quite determined to buy the D500. Should I buy that? Or should I wait, save some more money and go for the D850?
Great job as always I just got a xt2 we’ll have to see what Nikon does with a full frame mirrorless camera I hope they don’t price it out of this world
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I’m very curious to see what they will do, how they will compete and what the status of that model will be in their lineup.
Maarten Heilbron you’re the first person that I have heard said that Nikon’s future is In mirrorless... I don’t doubt it’s true I just don’t known why it’s not being talked about and I think I try to stay on top of things... meanwhile I decided to keep my D500 and bought the x-t2 and loving it too
I'm certainly not the first - Nikon admitted in an interview earlier this year that they would be releasing a full frame mirrorless camera. I too love my X-T2 - and loved the D500 when I took it to Paris for a review last year. That's when I realized that a DSLR wasn't really all that heavy to carry around. Just don't carry it around your neck - that can be painful.
I heard you say this is the penultimate camera, just below the D5. Well, the actual definition of penultimate is different. It really means second to last, or second from the bottom, which the D850 certainly is not. Otherwise, I enjoyed the review and learned a few things too.
Maarten this may be a dumb question, but is there any way to take advantage of the still image autofocus functionality when shooting video? No way to set a focus point and then focus. Move to another point and pull focus to that point?
Sorry my question was badly worded. I guess video can only be captured on a DSLR during live view because that's the only time the mirror is up and out of the way. Live view only has contrast detect autofocus because of the way phase detect autofocus works. Thus it's not possible to leverage the phase detect autofocus functionality of stills while recording video. Maarteen did I get that about right?
Most mirrorless cameras (which only have liveview mode) now have phase detect, so it's not particular to the liveview system. But, yes, you have that right. I suppose that either the complexity or the cost has prevented Nikon from including phase detect for liveview mode.
A new question Maarten, how can I change in the D850 the autofocus mode, from AF C to AF S. It does not let me change it by pressing the AF mode button, it just changes me, the focus points. Thanks for your help.

The 200 burst limit is so the camera doesn’t destroy itself in a bag if the button gets held down. Apparently that’s Nikons official response.

Great video too, thank you again, and keep up the great work!
That's very kind of you to say, it's always good to know I've provided useful information.
Best D850 review I've seen, of many. Quite impressive, thank you.
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting .
The only review that matters! Great work once again!
What kind words - thanks for taking the time to comment.
I only came across this channel today. What an awesome man. Thank you from Australia.
Wow, thank you! I appreciate your kind words. Please say hello to all my friends in Australia - as long as you can do so safely.
Best review available online. Well done.
It's a pleasure to read your kind comments, thanks for posting.
Awesome review!
The last optical viewfinder camera before electronic screens take over EVERYTHING we look at? Sad. I need to really save up... and take two.
Maybe they will use a hybrid like Fuji on the X-Pro series.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Going to be buying a d850! Switching from Fujifilm mirrorless.
Interesting, most seem to be going the other way.
Great review. I’m glad I watched because I’m now convinced that I don’t need this camera. There’s just too much to wrap my head around. Does anyone really need all these features? I suppose so, but not me. I will admit it’s a wonderful piece of technology.
Thank you - kind words are always appreciated. I’ve never complained about existence of features that I don’t use today - there’s always tomorrow.
the best d850 review. hands down.
I appreciate your kind words, thanks for commenting.
One of the best extensive review. Great job Mr. Maarten!
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Thanks for the kind words, always appreciated.
I might pick up a used d850. I would get the d810 to save money, but it is still pricey, and I believe I would get better value in buying the d850.
Sounds reasonable.
Always the best reviews on internet..
Nice to read your comment - thanks for your kind words.
The face recognition wasn't working on you because, well - your face is so exceptional. :)
Another excellent presentation Maarten ...
Oh! I hadn't considered that - it's usually just my glasses. In general, it did work reasonably well. And thank you very much for your kind words.
Thanks, I do appreciate the kind words and it's always nice to know my videos are helpful.
I'm anxious to find out what Nikon is up to also, but the Fuji X-H1 is a very exciting camera.
Sir, I always look forward to your reviews. You always deliver very informative content in your style of presentation. Thank you!
That was very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
It’s unique review in style I never came across in others. I subscribed immediately
Thanks!! Always nice to hear from viewers who appreciate my approach.
just fantastic. i am a happy user of D850.
How kind of you to comment, thanks.
great informative review , im just waiting for my D850 to be delivered and found this video this is my dream camera been saving a while to get it plus a couple of lenses nikkor 24-120mm f4 and sigma 14-24mm f2.8 im mainly a landscape cityscape photographer upgrading from the D7100 i got back in 3013 on release always dreamed of going full frame and now the price has come down enough for a two lens purchase along with the body thank you for making this review instruction video much appreciated
Always nice to hear from a viewer who's found my video useful! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
That's very kind of you to say, I do always appreciate hearing from viewers who find my content worthwhile.
Thanks for your kind words, and this interesting tip.
@@MaartenHeilbron Ken Rockwell has made it a point to never turn his cameras to the off position
Thanks.
A pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for taking the time to comment, and best wishes with your channel.
i shoot with sony, canon and nikon bodies and they are all great cameras that give excellent results, however my sony SLT A mount camera bodies have two major features that lead the pack, first the Electronic viewfinder that allows you to see the finished product before you actually shoot the image which opens the door for many many other features and second is the body stabilization...........i shoot for pleasure....i want to thank you for all your help..
There are many cameras - all mirrorless cameras for example - that provide the electronic viewfinder function you describe. And there are also many cameras that provide stabilization, optical, in-body and a combination. I would agree those are interesting and important features for many photographers. Thanks for your note.
Best tutorial & camera review combo video on UA-cam!!! Well done. SUBSCRIBED
Thanks for your kind words, and taking the time to comment, appreciated.
A simple, easy, clear and concise explanation .. thank you.
I do my best, thanks for recognizing that. I appreciate the kind words.
Excellent review. It helped me to decide not to buy the professional battery for the grip as for me the gain would be marginal. I really appreciated the demonstration of shutter and buffer, which enabled me to arrive at a considered conclusion. Thank You!
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for the kind words, always nice to know viewers appreciate my work.
Amazing review…. Thanks so much. Trading up my D810 for the D850 (just to max out on features).
Always nice to know my video has been helpful in making your decisions, thanks for commenting.
Thank you excellent video. I love the camera. I have tried mirrorless. I guess I am just old fashioned. Thanks again great job.
Awesome! Thank you! I appreciate your kind words.
Great video. Very in-depth and informative. One of the best I've seen!
That's very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Amazingly detailed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind words.
Subscribed! I really enjoy your in depth and honest reviews. I think the D850 is the homerun Nikon desperately needed to hit this year.
If the interest in my video is anything to go by, it should be very popular.
I see you picked up on the limited buffer, but you didn't mention that Nikon says it's bigger.
Previously the limit had been 100, so yes, it's bigger, but.
This is a really nice review. So many details. Thank you!
How kind of you to say, appreciated.
Thank you for the excellent in-depth review. It was very "watchable". Now, if only I could find an 850 out there I'd trade in my D800!
Very kind of you to say, appreciated with thanks.
love the review - just to chime in on the reason that a burst rate limit is put in: presumably this is to stop your camera actually shooting thousands and thousands of frames if you accidentally leave it on in your bag and something is pressing against the shutter release button? That's what i always figured any way!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words - I will note that you said “thousands and thousands”. The limit is 200, so ...
yes - exactly. The reason it's 200 is because that's enough to keep people happy but not so many that in case the shutter gets pushed down in your bag that the camera just keeps taking photos over and over.. In the video you said you were "still not sure why a limit is needed". So i'm fairly certain that's why the limit is needed :D
If that is the reason, and I’ll note that no other manufacturer seems to be concerned about this, the limit could certainly be larger than the 100-200 limit imposed here.
care to suggest another reason? perhaps in your position as a proper reviewing youtuber you could contact nikon to ask? ;)
I have no idea, maybe it would overheat the sensor or the processor? Maybe there’s some legacy issue or a capricious and arbitrary manager? Maybe there’s a superstition?
Really good datailed review.. Love your style of reviewing.. Keep up the great work sir
Very kind of you to say, thanks for commenting.
Thank you very much for a wonderfully helpful review, I am enjoying my new D850 :)
So glad to hear that you found my video useful, thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great review Maarten. Did you love the camera, like it, or was it just ok? How was it compared to the Sony A9 and A7Riii?
Thanks for the kind words. It's more than OK, but as a video shooter - and I don't mean to imply that the D850 isn't a more than capable video camera - I prefer mirrorless, which seem to be happier to shoot video than a DSLR.
I'm not convinced of any need to have 40+megapixels, or full frame, so If you were to put all three on the table in front of me, and tell me they were the same price, I'd ask if I could have the A7 III instead.
That said, If I owned a D850, I would not be trading it in for either the A9 or the A7R III. But that would be true of all three.
Does that help?
Thanks Maarten.
always happy to help
Cheers from Mississauga. You are the #1. Not even half a second waste. Hopefully I'll meet you one day on the street during your work session... Great job. Thanks
Hey! Nice to hear from the 905, and thanks for the kind words and understanding one of my goals (not to waste your time). Please do say hi when you see me.
Great job Brother,, Outside with my telescope trying all your saying,,,,
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. It's always nice to know my videos are helpful and appreciated.
I hope to get to that before the end of the year ... the next Sony is RX10 IV, which is on its way.
really well done! Lots of good info here. Thanks!!
Always my pleasure, thanks for the kind words.
superb video and convinced me to upgrade to Nikon D850 from the D5000.
Good reasons.
Utterly brilliant review ! If my school and university lecturers were as good as you , education would have been enjoyable rather than just a means to an end .......... Well done :-)
A pleasure to read your kind words - very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot, I was waiting for this review 😊
Always nice to know that my content is appreciated, thanks.
Wow excellent walkthrough!!
That's very kind, thanks for commenting.
Thank you Maarten.
Always my pleasure.
Excellent and entertaining review for sure. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Great review!
Thank you for your kind words, appreciated.
great review, going through details about the camera instead of comparisons about other brands...
Thank you, it was a pleasure to read your kind words.
@@MaartenHeilbron ..you're welcome
Hello sir...I am planning to buy a new DSLR body and I would like to know your suggestions. I like shooting nature, landscapes, bird, wildlife and sometimes monuments, and I am quite determined to buy the D500. Should I buy that? Or should I wait, save some more money and go for the D850?
Your determination seems well-focussed (sorry) to me. Get the d500, you will not regret that decision.
Maarten Heilbron Thank you sir. :-)
That's very kind, thank you.
Thank you your review, I love both of my D 850’s.if only the manual was the same size as the one on the D7100
hehe, complicated cameras require longer manuals - although that makes them even more useful as sleep aids.
It is the second to last. The D5 is the last - the "ultimate" - camera in their lineup. Otherwise, thanks for your kind words.
the buttons are the same in all Nikon cameras that are resent so a Nikon user can more between cameras without issue. ie the D500 has the same layout
That is more or less true (lesser models have fewer buttons) and I’m certain it’s appreciated for the loyal Nikon shooters.
Great review, cheers!!!
Very kind of you to say - thanks for commenting.
Maarten this may be a dumb question, but is there any way to take advantage of the still image autofocus functionality when shooting video? No way to set a focus point and then focus. Move to another point and pull focus to that point?
Yes, that’s what I’m demonstrating when I rack the focus from one tulip to another. Use either touch or the focus joystick to select the point.
Really nice video Maarten, thanks!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for your kind words.
Fantastic Job MH. Missed you again at PhotoPlus.
Thank you, lawyer nice to hear from you. I should make it down for that show.
Hi Thanks for the great work - how did you find the D850 for video - is the touch to focus of any use
It is, and it works well - ua-cam.com/video/Xn8rkKBDiIE/v-deo.html
A new question Maarten, how can I change in the D850 the autofocus mode, from AF C to AF S. It does not let me change it by pressing the AF mode button, it just changes me, the focus points. Thanks for your help.
