Hi Taylor, why don't you use Z6 in this case (with a smaller body, IBIS, same sensor and cheaper price), is it because of one card slot, ergonomics, controls?
Since you use a D850 most of the time, I'm curious how you found the autofocus through the viewfinder. Nikon is advertising the "D5 algorithm" in the D780 even though it has the older AF module (and coverage) of the D750, and I'm wondering how you think the viewfinder AF compares to the D850, which has both the bigger coverage area and the D5 generation algorithm. Thoughts on AF through the OVF? Also, if you like the 85 f/1.4g, why not use it on the adapter with the Z6?
Matthew Wells one card slot keeps me from using the Z series on a wedding day. AF will need proper full day in the field testing before I can comment on it. Overall I was happy with AF on my D750 so I couldn’t see it being worse

I have a D610, a Tamron 24-70 G2 and a 70-200 G2. I would like to improve the camera. I wanted to buy a Z6II. A friend told me that the 70-200 Tamron won't work on the Z 6II and that the Z6II is not good for low light. I got a recommendation for D780. If I buy a D780 then I don't have to buy an expensive back up card and adapter for lenses, like for Z cameras. I photograph weddings, baptisms, children's birthdays... I'm interested in your opinion?
To me the D850 isn’t a wedding camera. It’s a high resolution camera ment for landscaping, model work, high resolution photography. The D780 on the other hand has a fully silent shutter with face tracking and is a perfect wedding camera that doesn’t require extreme resolution. The Nikon D6 is also a great wedding camera but on the heavier side.
Yup, I think the choices are clear. If you want a beast of a camera that can autofocus down to -4 to -5 EV (or even lower) then get the D780. If you are more of a hybrid shooter (both photos and videos) then get the Z6. I don't see a reason to recommend a D750 in 2020 except if your only concern is the price. I'm also glad Nikon got rid of the pop up flash. No need for it for several reasons a) it is relatively weak b) hard to bounce the flash especially to the side c) on camera flash is just not ideal. I'll take better weather sealing over pop up flash any day.
Both the D780 and the Z 6 have the same video features. It's all down to personal preference. If you like an OVF, go for the D780, and if you prefer an EVF, get the Z 6.
@@khuang3663 I believe the D780 has that option as well, but you'd need an external recorder, like the Atomos Ninja, to get it to work. People I agree, you can feel , if you think or need a certain body, plus specs help, plus you can lower the size of raw and jg of the D850 you don't always have to shoot max ...
I was thinking of going with a Z6 until this D780 camera came out. Already own a D750 which performs great for photos. Video was its only problem. But not now with D780 body size, ideal for hybrid shooting and better live autofocus. I have a Canon 80D which does not have inbody stabilization, so I use a monopod at events to stabilize. Could do that with D780 if doing video, plus VR lenses. Just a thought. May sell the Canon 80D perhaps to get 4K in the Nikon, and higher quality video.
I'm a D750 hybrid shooter as well. I'm OK with the video AF if nothing is moving out of the focal plane. I set up BB focus for both stills and video so I'm using the same buttons when I switch back and forth. The D780 appeals to me more than the Z6 because it's stills AF is going to be good. Only issues I have is the cost (although I think it'll come down fast) and the second card not backing up video.
@@markshirley01 For vlogging with no moving subject my D750 is okay in manual focus, however I had problem at reception in autofucus, that the focus in live view kept hunting in and out (manual focus would been better) and bride complained. The D780 or Z6 would solve this problem. I am in Canada, and the price is almost $3000 for D780 body as USD is worth 30 percent more than Canadian. So yes, waiting a few months for price to come down, or maybe get a Z6. I have Canon 80D for now for video. Pros always need 2 cameras (one for backup or video), so it will be Z6 or D780 when price is right.
For 2020 the bottom line is that it doesn’t matter which is better, I have $70,000.00 of Nikon gear inc 3 D850s sitting in my gear room doing absolutely nothing. My device to buyers would be to buy neither and hold onto their money which is the far safer option.
Because of its high resolution, the D850 is not only great for shooting weddings etc. But also great for portrait or commercial shoots. The D780 is the right fit for wedding shooters.
i am a D850 user , i would never go for D780 , but recommend the D780 for you . for the video bonus , for me if i need a video i can go drone or sony a7iii i don't know my videos is good in stills though
I’m new to the commercial photographing world, who just started being a bridal photographer assistant and considering buying a “professional” camera as an investment. I wanted to find a camera which is modern enough (raw files & focusing) for the work and also old school (using old lens and manual focusing) for the fun, is d780 still a good choice in 2024? Thx!
Great video! Would you be able to comment on the viewfinder AF performance of the D780 compared to the older D750 or even the D800/D810? Is it noticeably better in low light and with tracking fast moving human subjects? Thanks!
Brian Sullivan is suspect after a year of solid use the d850 is going to standup better. That said my d750 that’s 4 or 5 years old now is still in great condition. With a regrip it would be looking pretty much new

What are your thoughts in 2024? Thanks!! Perusing your videos, It seems that you have switched to Sony? Please comment!
I need Nikon to make another hibrid camera, like the D780, but with the autofocus of the D500 in it. Or something even better than that! And with IBIS. That will be the perfect camera. And we can use all the lenses, the F mount is more than enough. Nobody needs any Z mount if we have a ton of great lenses already! The Z or whatever they call it and all this new stuff is much more marketing than really new stuff.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Yes, and the D5. But I want an hybrid full frame, D780 like, with the F mount, IBIS and the best autofocus possible. I really don't care about any Z9. The Z9 is another system. I need an hybrid F mount camera with IBIs and so on. I know that Camera manufactors are trying to sell us total different systems which need total new lenses. It's a ton of money they want to make on us! If Pentax can put an IBIS system in all their cameras, why can't Nikon do the same? Is Nikon that much behind Pentax concerning technical knowledge?

@@adrianvanleeuwen the trick is to find a contrast point and recomposed - I rarely can't AF
Wow that was very helpful 😄
What 35mm lens with image stabilization are you using? 😀 Great review btw!
For 2020 the bottom line is that it doesn’t matter which is better, I have $70,000.00 of Nikon gear inc 3 D850s sitting in my gear room doing absolutely nothing. My device to buyers would be to buy neither and hold onto their money which is the far safer option.
What if the banks collapse and that money disappears?
John, that's bad GAS right there bro. Have a clean out and start again.
What about the NIKON D810??
What is the best camera d780 vs z6ii
So what about now? still favor the d780 over all the new Nikon z Cameras?
This was recorded when all they had was the original Z6
Amazing sir🔥❤
Sir am your fan ..am waiting your give way 😀😀😀😀😀😀✌✌✌
Who is the winner ?
Thanks Taylor great round up of the D780. My only disappointment is no video backup. Otherwise it looks a great choice to upgrade to from my D750.
Because of its high resolution, the D850 is not only great for shooting weddings etc. But also great for portrait or commercial shoots. The D780 is the right fit for wedding shooters.
Ahh thank you for this!! Have been looking into the D850 but now seriously considering the 780
i am a D850 user , i would never go for D780 , but recommend the D780 for you .
for the video bonus , for me if i need a video
i can go drone or sony a7iii i don't know
my videos is good in stills though
I’m new to the commercial photographing world, who just started being a bridal photographer assistant and considering buying a “professional” camera as an investment. I wanted to find a camera which is modern enough (raw files & focusing) for the work and also old school (using old lens and manual focusing) for the fun, is d780 still a good choice in 2024? Thx!
Phenomenal guide buddy
Hey, sick editing bro. Keep it up. First comment and first view
Great video! Would you be able to comment on the viewfinder AF performance of the D780 compared to the older D750 or even the D800/D810? Is it noticeably better in low light and with tracking fast moving human subjects? Thanks!
I love it when you said Buy at local stores
How is the build quality of the 780 compared to the 850?
Brian Sullivan is suspect after a year of solid use the d850 is going to standup better. That said my d750 that’s 4 or 5 years old now is still in great condition. With a regrip it would be looking pretty much new
I think this is very helpful content for us. thank u
Taylor, what lenses do you prefer for your Photo & Video?????????
Really looking forward... 😘😘👍👍😎😎
D780 seems amazing!!
Wow, I know this video is 4-yrs old, but I _Just_ picked up a D850, and I'm eying up a used D780; I do Weddings almost exclusively; and presently I'm VERY happy with my OM system OM-1's as my main cameras; but I have 10-11 Nikon "F" lenses that I can still use including the original 70-200 VR.
What are your thoughts in 2024? Thanks!!
Perusing your videos, It seems that you have switched to Sony? Please comment!
I trust you when it comes to camera and lens recommendation. I might buy d780 soon
Nicely presented 👍
I need Nikon to make another hibrid camera, like the D780, but with the autofocus of the D500 in it. Or something even better than that! And with IBIS. That will be the perfect camera. And we can use all the lenses, the F mount is more than enough. Nobody needs any Z mount if we have a ton of great lenses already! The Z or whatever they call it and all this new stuff is much more marketing than really new stuff.
Have you used a Z9?
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Yes, and the D5. But I want an hybrid full frame, D780 like, with the F mount, IBIS and the best autofocus possible. I really don't care about any Z9. The Z9 is another system. I need an hybrid F mount camera with IBIs and so on. I know that Camera manufactors are trying to sell us total different systems which need total new lenses. It's a ton of money they want to make on us! If Pentax can put an IBIS system in all their cameras, why can't Nikon do the same? Is Nikon that much behind Pentax concerning technical knowledge?
I am still a d610 lover with the 35 85 & 135 mm no zooms yet.
great review!
