Honestly I think they just worded this ending wrong. If it said “Get revenge” rather than “Go for the money” I’m sure more people would have chosen this ending.
But revenge didn’t fit Arthur’s character. He always said revenge is a fools game. He never stood for it. So going with John is the better ending and likely canon.
@@elijahcampbell7577 he had TB and Micah and Dutch ruined the family Arthur had known. He is angry and in that moment I dont think anyone would have any morals.
E K either way Arthur gets revenge because In both endings he fights Micha
Luke Everson Not really. He was just going back to claim his money because he’s done so much for this gang and he believes he should have it but then Micah jumps him and he is forced to fend for himself. Same thing with the John ending, Arthur was fighting off the Pinkertons so John could escape but then Micah came up on him and he fights him until his TB takes over or depending on your honor level Micah kills you instead.
Elijah Campbell no micha jumps him when he goes back for the money as well so your point is
*Micah shoots Miss Grimshaw*
Dutch: "Who's betraying me?!"
WTF?
Thunder ikr , he is a fool
He diddnt know if she was betraying him
No it was Susan . Micah shoots Susan. Not miss Grimshaw
@@Boss-ml9tj Grimshaw is her last name. Susan Grimshaw. It's just she's referred to as 'Miss Grimshaw' most of the game.
ThunderGames01 ignore him, that’s my brother Clive, he ain’t right in the head. On account of me being born first, he came out all black and yella but he’s alright
Helping John is 100% the correct choice but Arthur asking micha and Dutch to “come get him” is fire
If you have high honor yes, but if you have low honor, this is the real ending.
micha is my cats name arthur doesnt have cat food does he
@@alexcasares7401Arthur shouldn’t have low honor
@@austinj7228Arthur has whatever the player chooses. That’s the whole point of the honor system
who in the god's name is micha
Say what you will but there's no way I could've picked this ending over helping John.
This ending fucking sucked compared to helping John 😂🙄
That's why I didn't choose it, he was gonna die anyway of tuberculosis. So to save John was the best option
Saving John was more emotional and it felt more heroic and sad and even peacefull compared to getting killed by Micah's blade
Saving john is kind of pathetic tho the way author dies. He just lays there and dies over a disease pretty much. Like damn
But why do people choose the money? He's sick and he dies so why does he need it.
I personally like the “Help John” ending but I gotta admit, the soundtracks to this ending goes hard af
there the same just the saving John ending has violins and this one has a beat and the Lyrics
@@thatkidjay6214 he said soundtracks. That's plural. It has different music than the helping john mission.
@@chickenwings1689 no there actually the same with minor changes. Johns ending has violins and the money ending has the beat and the lyrics
@Gaz same here bro
@@thatkidjay6214 i feel like thats the right ending because in the end arthur dutch john no one was really good mans and in the end anger would take them to do bad things like going for the money to try killing micah not saving john
Micah's voice actor did a damn amazing job at making him sound like a villain and especially making him a unlikable character.
I like him as a character
mason johnson I like him as a character, but I don’t like him as a person. Him being so despicable and hatable is part of what makes him a great villain
SOBEK exactly
I liked Micah in the game he was a very good cool character for a villain imo
Pretty easy when you have those antagonistic lines.
I love how if you die as low honor Arthur it shows the wolf eating the deer, but if you die high honor the wolf is simply not there. Emphasizes more on the fact that low honor Arthur had potential to be good, but the wolf killed his better half
Damn this game is amazing
This ending looks way more badass but dieing for john with low honor is more wholesome and probably cannon but if he dies going back for money then he does for nothing
@@JAWJUGGLER__2 I prefer thinking high honor get John to safety is the Canon ending, bc its the one that most fits the theme of redemption, the franchises entire point
@@CDNBreadDogs yeah i looked it up and thats the cannon ending thank god
If u also get the letter from Mary ( Arthur’s ex girlfriend ) then she saids that their is a good man in arthur but he is battling with a giant so this could be a bit of a reference to the giant winning ( as a wolf is usually considered stronger than a deer )
Honestly a little disappointed that Arthur doesn’t get to be the one to kill Micah. And there’s even a perfectly poetic and epic way to do it. Whether or not you go with John or go back for the money, during the climax of your fight with Micah, Arthur coughs up blood onto Micah’s face and in his mouth. Then Arthur just laughs and when Micah asks what’s so funny, Arthur says “Nothing, Black Lung.” Since TB can take years to develop, in the epilogue John finds Micah and he’s a whimpering, coughing mess that’s barely alive. Then you can choose to kill him or let the disease take him. Just a cool idea I had.
Please tell me why any game company hasn’t hired you for game ideas 😂👍
That would be a perfect ending
Nah, Arthur shouldn’t have died from TB (like he did in 2 of the 4 endings) and Micah shouldn’t either. It’s a game set in the Wild West, where revenge or murder is how the baddest men die - not from a disease.
I liked the idea of Arthur having TB, though, but only to highlight to him the fact that the life was changing for the worse and he wanted to redeem himself before inevitable death i.e. the redemption part of the title.
God damn it dude!!!
Caesar somebody give this man a medal
Well damn, I’m glad I went with John instead. Hated Micah ever since that mission with him in strawberry
it doesn’t matter who u go with, if your honor is low this would’ve been your ending.
Prod. Zero I love this ending cus he gives John all his stuff and it feels so epic just dropping everything and going for the money So his family Could Live wealthy
Prod. Zero so if you had really high honour would he live ?
Pro Black I much prefer the other as it’s much more sad
Rly I liked slaughtering cops
Guarantee if arthur wasnt dying from TB he would have kicked micah's ass
Ryan Gillette hands down
Agreed. In the good ending he was nearly equal to Micah in a fist fight despite nearly dying with TB, in one of the taunts he even says "You can't even kill a dying man" lmao.
@@blackstar-sam8924 I think he was better or equal in the good ending considering he would have reached the gun before micah had a chance to get to him.
@@ampulsion You should play or watch the game till the end. Prologue ending is not what you expect but pretty good.
Plus he was stabbed in the kidney at the start of the fight
This was one of the saddest endings in a video game I’ve ever experienced. Arthur saying goodbye and thank you to his horse, then Arthur dying shorty after.
Right in the damn feels.
He also said thanks to the horse a true hero and gentlemen
This game stab me emotionally again since Square Enix do it first with Zack & Cloud :(
Arthur's with his horse now,my friend
Many books and films have brought a tear to my eye, now a game has. I never seen such story telling in a game, never connected with a character so much in a game. To some it probably sounds sad, but it has brought me the best gaming experience in years. Its funny that something set in a time over a hundred years actually has a lot of reference to the world we live in. Metaphorically I mean for anyone who thinks im being literal.
This is what hurt me the most. And I had the horse he got from Hamish. Art had a great time with him y.y I cried Buell and Arthur as well
17:09 you can literally see it in Dutch, he knows Arthur’s right. That one moment of clarity where he finally sees how he’s been manipulated and now he’s standing over his own son as he breathes his last breath. You can see how hard he’s trying to keep believing the lies because they’re easier to face but he just can’t do it. In that moment Dutch breaks, unable to continue bullshitting himself to protect his ego, but still unable to face the terrifying reality that it’s all his fault for letting a snake in the garden. In the end the bravest man we thought we knew ran away bcs he couldn’t handle the truth. Gods the Facial animations in this game are 10/10
Exactlllyyy. Cool to know im not the only one who noticed this.
I love this. And the fact that in chapter 4 Hosea told something similar to Dutch makes it more powerful.
“You'll damn us all”- Hosea
“You let him damn us all, Dutch” -Arthur
Makes sense why he would belive him over micha, micha has been there for 6 or so months and Arthur has been there for 21 years
and the music, the strings swelling a little in the background as his realization is hitting. it's so good

Also in the "bad ending" I feel like Dutch's reaction is wayyyy better. You see him actually thinking about what Arthur says as the music is rising, compared to the other ones where it's hard to tell if Dutch is realizing his mistake, then the tension gets released as Dutch walks off and Micha finishes you off out of anger, that you were able to show Dutch who Micha really was before you die. I think it's the best ending personally

Abigail said "Dutch's chest...with all OUR money." That is why I went back for the money because I was hoping I could take the money most of which Arthur earned to John Abigail & Jack.
I picked the one where he protected John on the mountain what a end to one of the best games I’ve ever played
It's true but i still disagree with killing Arthur atm I'm trying to figure out where Dutch went after you killed Micah.
@Samovski I was disapointed but that's what makes the game great for some reason. I'm very tired of games where the heros wins and lives happily ever after.
In Red Dead 2 it's not about that, it's about Redemption. That's why the true ending is Jon killing Micah
And that's also why the true ending in the orginal RDR is Jack M. killing Ross.
That's what makes the game great. people need to stop complaining and take a second to look at the bigger picture of what makes this game awesome. Redemption
@Samovski Dont try to come off as cool guy to talk to about games and then call me a dick, you piece of shit
I simply said I liked the way the games concluded with their very long stories. I felt Arthurs was very sad but made John killing Micah (the real ending) SO much better.
It wasn't about the ending rather it was the journey of learning about the characters and how eventually, they all started to turn their backs on the gang And each other. It's brutal but it's actually a realistic reflection of the gang life.
I was very impressed with how the game got darker and darker as it went on. That's what being a bad guy must feel like when the consequences start coming. I guess my point is that as much as I loved the character, Arthurs death didn't really matter. The whole story was awesome. Bravo Rockstar 10/10
@Samovski Well I am talking to you about it. You're just making it mighty difficult for me to talk to you. WORK WITH ME. Forget what I said about the "complaining" part.
You said you felt that Arthur's death was less meaningful then it should have been. I said that I felt that the death wasn't the part that mattered. It's the whole story when you look at it ALL together. John killing Micah was badass as fuck, not to mention Dutch shot him first. There's depth to the story and how it all comes to the conclusion. I liked it, sorry if you think these guys are supposed to go out like super heroes but I disagree, "IMO".
Zachary You haven't played that many games if you sincerely think this garbage was even close to one of the best games ever.
I feel bad for those folks who chose to go for the money. The other ending was beautiful. He died in peace, watching the sunrise. Having his redemption helping Marston escape. That endidng isnt sour to me, but the money path, being killed by Micah must really suck for those who chose that path.
Major Tom i prefer this ending, because we take revenge. It more epic
@@doc_main4228 Unless you were thinking you were Micah, i dont see where is the revenge, Arthur gets killed by Micah.
Actually you go back to get the money as a distraction for John
The final talk with Dutch is the best part about the go with John ending.
Here's the thing though, you dont always get a peaceful death on the mountain. In my playthrough I had about 60 percent of the way to max honor but you need a little more than that in order to get the ending you explain. In mine, micha shoots you in da face lol

@Alex H you mean the guy from red dead revolver yeah but i mean red ded redemtion
Well, they are outlaws, and there was only one fate for them back then
Either way Arthur was going to die because he had a disease that couldn't be cured
Rock God Well that's true tbh... You weren't expected to live long with that lifestyle.
It's feasible because Arthur feels as if he is the one who has rightfully earned that money, which is true. He served for years as Dutch's enforcer and right-hand man, he was the best shot in the gang (as is mentioned multiple times), and he did damn near all of the dirty work. And for what? To die of tuberculosis (which, by the way, he contracted on a job bringing in money for the gang) without ever getting revenge on the snake that ratted his family out and the surrogate father that left him to die, knowing that they will live off primarily his hard work? That's his thinking in this scenario at least. Notice how when the decision is made to turn for the money, he shouts for Dutch and Micah. It's not about the money. It could be called the "selfish" or "revenge" ending as much as the bad ending.
why isnt this comment on the fucking news, thank you drakyth
Motherfucking thank you Drakyth most folk just don't get it! All those 20 years Arthur's ridden by Dutch's side he's taken his surrogate father's word as gospel. Things such as revenge is a fool's game and all that jazz. Sure it's understandable why Dutch would express this given that he's observed people bent on revenge make dumb decisions based on their emotions. Yet time and time again just like De Niro's Neil MCauley in Heat Dutch finds excuse after excuse to break his own pre-established "code". Enough of this I see honorable Arthur making this call as well because it's the ultimate way to spite the snakes in his garden.
why i chose the money. Arthur deserved it more than anyone
Everything here is correct but as much as I want him to burn in a place worse than hell Micah was the best shot in the gang. E.g. after Sean gets shot

Not really a fan of this ending. Not even because Arthur dies, but it doesn’t really make sense for him to do this. At this point, the game makes clear that Arthur no longer cares about stuff like money or revenge, he only cares about protecting the people he cares about so their future is secured after he passes. It’d make more sense for him to try and buy John time to get away rather than going on an out of character revenge mission and to get the money that John doesn’t even want. I get that rockstar wanted to give a choice, but sometimes there doesn’t need to be a big final decision. Just go with the more satisfying ending which is clearly the one they thought of first rather than just creating a second ending that isn’t nearly as good just to enable player choice.
I agree. When the choice came up I was flabbergasted. I was like "really? Why is this even an option?" And not even half a second after the choice came up I had already picked marston. It was really bizarre.

"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
Micah:shoots Ms Grimshaw
*miss grimshaw dying* AAAAAA
Dutch: nOw WhO iS bEtRaYiNg Me
Also dutch: joins micah two seconds later
awww rip morgan :( i like play as john yeah but morgan is the one my fav char :'(
Jiren Lenny was my favourite character 😔
Morgan really grew on me, so much so that I can't even decide who I liked better between John and Arthur, considering they are so badass!
@@tomhuddleston1850 same here
Tom Huddleston John is my favorite
Nice grammar. But to be honest Arthur grew on me.
The moment Micah said "It's been a lotta fun" and stabs Arthur, i was crying... Arthur was my all time favorite video game protagonist ever.. so glad i got to kill Micah and play as John... but rdr2 will never be the same without Arthur.
Wait, so your Arthur got stabbed? Then Why did you play as LOW HONOR ARTHUR???
Same bro
17:22 the music in that scene builds up arthurs death so perfectly
Agree!
Am I the only one that cried more when Arthur said “ I’ll see you around John marston” more than I did than Arthur’s death
Fun fact: Micah's VA admitted he got satisfaction killing Micah.
Can we get red dead remastered in these graphics now . 😅😍
Victor Cardenas cam you shut the fuck up now stop putting emojis in ever sentence it’s backwards compatibility on Xbox so yeah
Victor Cardenas your not getting these graphics nigga it took years they not finna do that shit just for a bitchass remake
Victor Cardenas a retelling would be cool for some dlc.
@@dondominick12 😂😂😂😂😂😌😌😛😛😇😇😒 here have some more emojis
@@thatguy4414 you ain't wrong 😔
15:34 I didn’t choose to go back for the money, I went back for Micah and Dutch.
8:35 the low honor ping after saying all that is badass
That moment you get the bad ending because you didn't realize there was a timer on the choice and you were really tryna think that shit through.
Same man ffs
My favourite part is when micha says “ he lying, he lyyyyyiinnnggg”
My favourite part is when :
Arthur :"Oh i know you goddamn snake!"
Micah :"Snake? Ok then you're a vulture"
The thing that's really terrifying about this ending is that Dutch doesn't walk away because he realizes Arthur was right and he loved Arthur, it's because he felt duped by Micah and was embarrassed that he let Micah control him. If you study his behavior, everything is about him even when times are good.
8:25 is the most badass scene in the game, the music, arthur's voice and the atmosphere where he screams.
It's just so badass
It seems like everybody prefers the ending up on the rocks over this one, personally i loved it also but i always thought this one was more fitting.
The camp burning around them as they fight feels more symbolic of all the chaos and how everything with the gang went to shit.
I have a hard time deciding which ending is the best:
High Honor - Go With John
Low Honor - Go For The Money
This scene is so good that makes me forget about Arthur getting to see the sun rising one last time. It's just so honest. He lived as a bad man and he died as a bad man, just like Reverend Swanson said. So it's when he saves John with high honor. Both the endings are tragic, both are true and both are perfect (the other endings are good too, but they don't have the same weight to me).
Couldnt have said it better. Still tho I prefer high honor going with John.
Swanson doesn't say that if you had high honor.
@@hamzehaladwan
Thanks, Captain Obvious.
@@lobardodelainternet4253 My pleasure
You could go for money with high honor.
This ending is terrible compared to the canon ending. So glad I wasn't a greedy dick.
Is there even an official canon ending?
Alexjt123 the one where arthur reached redemption obviously
@@RobloxfailXDRock But I have yet to see confirmation. People are just assuming it is canon because it is more satisfying and less sad from what I can tell.
Alexjt123 the game is called red dead redemption of course the fucking saving john one is cannon it completely ruins the character and title that rockstar literally make an arc from chapter four to the end of him redeeming himself look at the stranger missions on the last arc
Xavier Peterson Just because an optional ending scene fits the title of the game, doesn't mean it's official canon, essentially any ending is canon, they're all the players preference.
Just finished my third play through of RDR2 and went for the worst ending this time, and even though it was painful seeing Arthur as a bad guy and a killer, 8:25 made it so worth it
This isn’t the worst ending I think it’s the best actually
Unpopular opinion: I think 8:28 is the most badass scene of Arthur’s death out of all his deaths. The music is fire
Popular opinion
8:20 this scene when Arthur was angry !
8:28 This music makes us angry
Going back for the money is the most badass ending imo. “I’ll see you around John Marston”
Low honour/money is probably overall my least favourite ending but damn if they aren’t all great. This ending still has some of the best scenes in all 4 of the endings.
Specifically at 16:45 when Arthur tells Dutch that Micah is the rat. “You’re the rat. Not Molly, Dutch. It’s him. Him! Kill him! (Arthurs little voice crack here is heartbreaking) not molly… not Miss Grimshaw… not even Colm. It’s him…” I feel like he delivered this line much better in the low honour ending when he had the knife in him, he says it with such passion and desperation to Dutch, it’s sickeningly depressing and might be my favourite moment from any of the endings. Music when going back for the money is also insane, even though help John/high honour is my favourite ending, I can’t deny they are all amazing in their own rights.
13:35 Getting stabbed in the kidney area is not fun, yet here Arthur was still able to fight, while also suffering from the late stages of TB. Goddamn
Although nobody would choose this ending, 8:27 is such a badass moment
EVERYONE should do High Honor & Help John for the first time at LEAST.
Thats the gay ending. Die peacefully in the mountains while stares at the sun? lol boring. The money ending with the camp being burnt down in the backround is way cooler
This is definitely the most depressing ending. The way Arthur slowly crawls away from Micah, barely clinging onto life, as the music slowly builds up. You know Micah is going to kill arthur, but you don't know when.
Go back for money low honor: greed
Go back for money high honor: robbing Dutch and revenge against Micah
I still cry when Arthur says thank you to his horse! This was a masterpiece. I wish I could play it again for the first time ❤
Would have only been better if Arthur kissed the horse.
Surely he’s not “going for the money” he’s going to get bait to lure out Micah and Dutch?
"You let him damn us all Dutch"
HAPPYSEBAS11 yep, his face was so shocked, in the epilouge in american venom, dutch says hes there to kill micah too
Hosea was right all along
Maybe helping John ends in a more emotive (and perfect) ending, but man! admit there's nothing more badass than Arthur shooting his way to Beaver Hollow.
I think this ending is the best to be honest, purely because of how badass Arthur is when calling out “Dutch.. Micah.. Come and get me you bastards!”
Losing my horse juul addict was sadder then arthur getting clapped, i had that horse since day 1
Smuke the real big boy man so did mine. I had him since you were allowed to buy a horse. I named him Wybi. God bless him.
Smuke the real big boy man I miss my horse of the name Philly Steak
so if you have rarest white horse you lose it?
Neutrall TTV yeah my friend lost it
@@smuketherealbigboyman okay , if you lose all your horses on endgame maybe i get legendary ones after that
The way micah said "he's lying kinda made me want throw the controller at the TV thumbs up if you agree
I remember I saw someone say something about going back for the money that’s always stuck with me;
Low honor Arthur goes back for the money
High honor Arthur goes back for MICAH.
I thought I was going back for the money to help John. I was like damn when I lost honor for it
Also losing my horse was sad af ngl. My first horse, Major died cause we both flew off a cliff accidentally lol. My sending horse, Nutter got hit by a train. I like to think of it like he was saving my life by pushing me out the way. And my third horse. Butter I had since like chapter 2 so him dying was 😑.
ABAROCKS 42 nutter butter aww
A little late to the party but just finished this mission though I chose to go with John. I had the same horse through the whole game. After everything that had happened it was very sad to see him die like that, not being able to save him one more time. R.I.P. Lincoln.
Arthur Morgan is definitely in my top 3 favorite characters of all time, a very well written character to the end. Watching him die slowly from TB had to be one of the saddest things a game has ever thrown at me. Hope to see him in an Undead Nightmare scenario!
Abigail: my readings getting pretty good
4 years later: you know I can't read
I wish they made this ending a little more desirable to get. Like maybe doing this ending would result in Arthur actually killing Micah or something.
That would give real weight to either choosing revenge against the gang or redemption in saving Marston.
I actually like this last stand better than help John, when the music kicks in the adrenaline goes up!
I just hope it wasn’t get the money but more of “finish off Dutch and Micah” ending.
A year late but you just can't kill dutch cuz he dies in rdr1
So why don't John talk about Morgan?
because Rockstar didn't think that far ahead when making the first red dead
"Then why would you remember me, friend? You've forgotten far more important people than me."
Technically the first red dead redemption is a sequel from this red dead redemption 2 but with different character story, so on this red dead redemption 2 we play as Arthur and in the end as John, same in the first red dead we play as John and end up playing as a young Jack, so we only know the story of Arthur, a continuation
He's mentioned by Abigail riding with John to the McFarland Ranch in one of her missions
@@wallaceavin7490 what is said?
Is nice to be able to listen to this lines without my PS4 sounding like a jet engine right beside me.
Going down for the money is like Arthur’s version of American Venom it’s bad ass and got sick music but it’s extremely dishonorable and goes against what the game teaches you
