I met Gerald while I was a cop in Ohio back in the 80s. He recorded a greeting on my phone recorder. We hung out a few times. He couldn’t believe I wasn’t a groupie. And yes, he loved my lips. I was back stage security at the Troop concert. We kept in contact until I moved out of state.

I use to work with his Aunt (through marriage) back in the late 90s/early 2000s and we hit it off. She invited me to a few functions and I met G and became cool with him. I can honestly say Gerald was the best guy friend I ever had in Ohio. I don't care how down you may feel when you was around him you couldn't do nothing but laugh...til it hurts. Hanging out at his then home in Newbury Twp was always an adventure. I do know personally he always wanted to be married. He use to say "Short Stop (nickname he gave me. Yep, I'm a 5'2 shorty 😂😐) i just want my own family, my wife". I use to say "G, it will happen". Unfortunately we all know it never did. Receiving that call about him passing was the worst ever. I was glad i was able to create memories with G. Almost 16 yrs since he left us but i know he still doing his thang up there ☝. Continue to rest G!!! 🙏😘😞

He was good people. He was one of my favorite customers.I used to sell clothes and was a flight attendant, so I could get things to him anywhere last minute. He didn’t know I was a flight attendant. When he found out, he told me that they all thought I was into something other than clothes, because I stayed on planes.

Very good episode! I think Gerald Levert's album Groove On was his best album. Answering Service still sounds as fresh today as it did 20 years ago. Sad he passed away at 40 but the women in his life still remaining closely connected to his family all these years later shows he was a good man.

Gerald was no exception, when it comes down to alot of men in the music world. There's women EVERYWHERE and when they become huge in the business, they have their choice of who they want and when they want them, it's all a part of it, along with ego, excess, luxury and glamor and money. A person can lose themselves when surrounded by all of that. A lot of people depended on him and I think he never took time for himself and what he really wanted.
