  • The first time I ever rode in the Tahoe region it was at Hole in the Ground and it really opened my mind to what riding in the Sierras was like. It scared me just as much as it made me excited. The tech was awesome but on the other hand the climbs were a lot of work. From there I was on a mission to ride as many new high elevation rides as I could and somehow over 10 years passed without me returning to Hole in the Ground. Finally the time came to ride it again and I had totally forgotten how much tech was on the ride. However, I definitely didn't forget the climbs.

    As I’ve become a more “seasoned” rider it’s fun to go back and rediscover some of the trails that first got me excited about mountain biking. HITG is one of those trails

      Yeah, I hear ya there. With the riding season at altitude short, it's really hard to squeeze in all of your favorites as well as try something new every year.

      I really struggled with trying to show it was fun, but also that it's a lot of work to ride that trail. I didn't want to mislead people.

    Super chunky fun looking stuff. I have good friends in Susanville they ride all over that area. Maybe you’ll meet up with them someday. Or come out to Colorado and hammer altitude with me. Happy trails.

    How much elevation gain was the ride? Also, when did you do this ride? That area should be covered in snow by now.

    • @B1KER
      @B1KER  7 місяців тому

      @@christhrift6165 I’ve been super happy with Spokex. The silient hubs were pretty awesome until I blew the rear up on a ride. Pretty let down how that happened in about 2 months of riding. I’m planning on switching back to P321 hubs.

      @@B1KER Did onyx warranty them?

    • @B1KER
      @B1KER  7 місяців тому +1

      @@christhrift6165 Yeah, they did. However the more I thought about how quickly it failed the more worried I got about being screwed in the back country. I do a lot of high elevation rides that having a failure like that again could be really bad. Even though the replaced it, I'm just going to use them on stuff that's local or on my wife's bike since she's not pushing the watts I do. I read a little more later and they reccomend the older/heavier design for big guys like me.
