I've been watching many videos of these devices, and you have narrowed my choice down. The fancier ones look great, but something simple like this is fantastic. Thank you for putting the effort in and producing these quality videos.
@tomfinler odin 2 not released yet you should check it out, pretty much end game for affordable emulation. Capable of emulating switch and 4x upscaled ps2 gamecube etc... on my rg35xx I've been playing Castlevania aria of sorrow, I love playing pokemon rom hacks, metroid, mostly gba and snes!
That's strange about the charging, I charge mine with my phone charger which isn't a hardwired plug and it charges just fine. Though sometimes I have trouble charging my phone with various USB cables so the issue is probably with the cables themselves. Anyway, great review! My wife surprised me with one of these a few days ago and it's my new favourite thing, she says I'm like a kid at Christmas with it 😅
@@GoldenKingdom-kp6dt I swapped them out as soon as I got my RG35XX because I’d heard the one it comes with can fail, just didn’t want to take the risk
P.S. The original RG35XX, although less powerful than the 2024, Plus, and H versions, is able to run N64 through Batocera Lite and Drastic through a mod for Garlic OS. I personally switched back to Garlic with NDS since CFWs for the original aren't stable yet.
By the way, regarding the charging: if you have some USB-A to USB-C cables and a power brick, try that! I have kitchen scales and a battery-powered mini-fan that also refuse to charge off of USB-C to USB-C plug and cable, but USB-A works, for some reason. Plugging them into an old USB-A power bank works, as well. Not sure why that is, maybe it has to do with minimum power that these plugs and power bricks can deliver?
Now you’ve mentioned it, there might have been a USB-A to USB-C cable that came with it, I’m not sure I ever tried it though. I’ll have to look for it!
Great review man! I really enjoyed it. keep the video coming. Also might i recommend you do a video on your favorite retro games? I am new to retro gaming and only really played gamecube and a bit of gameboy advance. I'm not really sure what's good.
Thanks I’m really glad you enjoyed it! And that’s a great idea I will have to remember that, I’ve only played a few so far but once I’ve done more I’ll be sure to do a video on it!
Great video! Hearing someone's practical experience and usage with a device is really useful. I'm getting mine soon and i'm wondering how the durability is like, have you ever dropped it? Any noticeable scratches?
Hi! Thank you I’m really glad you enjoyed it! The durability seems to be okay, I wouldn’t say that I treat it super roughly but I also don’t think I’m overly careful with it either. I don’t think I’ve ever dropped it on a hard floor but I’ll happily throw it across to the sofa and it’s fine. It does come with a pretty good screen protector so I’ve not got any scratches on the screen! If it helps when I was doing some research on which one to buy I did read that the RG35XX is a bit more durable than the Miyoo Mini +, apparently that device is much more fragile.
These small retro handhelds are so cool, and I really want one, but I have so much stuff lying around already... The thought of getting another device kind of gives me anxiety! 😅 But man, it does seem like a perfect device to play some GB/GBA/SNES stuff that I missed back in the day. I tried some virtual console injection/emulation on a 3DS (I have a hacked one), but it's honestly pretty slow, and the screen just doesn't look great playing those games. GBA games in particular take forever to load, don't really have save states or other conveniences like that, and the graphics just look dull and poorly fit the screen resolution. Maybe I should bite the bullet and just get that Anbernic after all...
Sounds great hope they enjoy it! Good thing about the RG35XX is you know there won’t be any inappropriate ads or accidental micro transaction purchases! Plus, if it does get broken it’s quite a bit cheaper to replace than most phones 😄
@@matthewfewings6023How weird! Mine came with no games at all which at least makes a little bit of sense. Just removing Mario games sounds odd! Maybe Nintendo got to em 🤣
Hi! Would really appreciate it if you can share what games you showed on this video. I just recently got my RG35XX and I’ve been having a hard time identifying what other games I can add to my favorites or games I can try. Thank you so much! Hi! You can save Pokémon games yeah I pretty much only use the in game save and it works fine. You can’t trade though sadly, at least not at the moment. I think there are emulators on PC that can do that so you could always move your save file over to PC temporarily, but just on the RG35XX it’s not possible 😔
Not at the moment I don’t think. I have seen some emulators are getting wireless local trading for Gen 1 & Gen 2, currently that’s only on the Miyoo Mini + I think. So I’m hoping one day in the not too distant future all emulators will be able to trade 🤞
So I went straight to the Steam Deck charger BUT I just had a look on the Anbernic website and it says “5V/1.5A, support C2C charger”, so if you’ve got a 5V plug seems like the way to go!
