I love Nathan McCree, he's such a charming and down-to-earth bloke.
God, the more I find out about Core's Anniversary Edition, the more amazing and perfect it sounds like it would have been... :(

He was really fun to talk to, had a lot of knowledge to share and tales to tell, which was really nice =)
Also was very patient considering the technical issues we had during our call

I recorded "Venice Violins" from TRII off to a Fisher Price-esque cassette player with that built-in excuse of a microphone when I was 7 years and was happy to have it. Later I just popped the game CD into my CD player and there was it sitting as track XX in all it's glory!

Got to meet this guy twice. Once at the world premiere reception at Hatfield House, and another time at a concert in London. Absolutely incredible man, and one of the main inspirations for me to compose my own music.

Nathan's soundtrack is as important to the series as any other aspect. He is quite matter of fact about his work it in interview but it is absolutely fantastic and I have never come across a soundtrack in a video game that comes close to summing up the sentiment of the game as much as his work on TR.

well said! I think that might be due to him being British, their artists do tend to have a hard time accepting compliments and are almost always “quite matter of fact about their work” despite having influenced litterally millions of people’s lives

What a terrific interview! I've been in love with Tomb Raider music since I played it as a teen back in the 90s and I've always wanted to know more about the creative process behind the score. You asked Nathan so many great questions and it seems like he truly loves talking about his work.

Great interview Steve! Iconic soundtrack for me... I discovered when I was a kid that when you popped the game into a DVD player it would give you all of the music and voice clips from the game.

Its really fascinating that it only took him 3 weeks to produce the music on tomb raider.
And the way it turned out because Nathan McCree is what made the tomb raider atmosphere real.

    • @KasumiRINA
      @KasumiRINA 9 місяців тому

Why? Nothing surprising if you see the insane schedules classic bands had to record, and sometimes write, legendary albums. Three weeks was the time it took Deep Purple to make Machine Head. Smoke on the Water was written ABOUT the studio they were going to record burning down and Highway Star was showing a reporter "this is how we write songs".
Number of the Beast took 5 weeks to write AND record and it's 40 minutes, not 11. Black Sabbath's debut was recorded in 12 hours, tho they played songs live before. But title track for Paranoid was written in a few MINUTES by the band jamming... they needed a filler. Overall they recorded three full length albums over the period McCree got to work on Tomb Raider.
Of course people cut corners. That's why NotB is so much worse mixed and uneven compared to Piece of Mind and that's why TR1 arrangements are so minimalistic.

Nathan is absolutely brilliant. His music has accompanied me for all of these years. Tomb Raider music has been the soundtrack of my life, the game, Lara and the music all together is the most perfect symphony ever!

    What else to say ...
One of the most iconic music for an iconic game ..
In 1996, 2 games changed the world.
    Tomb Raider and Quake.

When I listen to his music I just feel so good. I cannot describe the feeling I have but it's there. Thx again Steve for this video! Kind regards

Nathan McCree is like the Gustav Holst of the modern age! The nature of how he composed the music for the original Tomb Raider is like how Holst had to compose Saturn: Bringer of Old Age on a tight deadline, too! Great job! :D

Nathan McRee are that composer who give his talent and heart in what he does.
He s a true artist and i believe to see him in the Tomb Raider Anniversary Core edition from 2006 canceled because of western californian sunshine cry babies.
I believe Embracer group gives the rights to Aspyr make that true with Nathan in the music composition and production
