  • In this video, Clay and Dale from EMF give themselves Death Wobble in a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually to show the viewers what happens and what some of the other contributing factors such as loads, tires and steering systems play in the outcome.
Check out Part 2 of our video series where we discuss the Steering Box being the main root cause of Death Wobble.

I've been procrastinating on buying a set for my pick up and I was going to get the steering ones as well when I do buy, but looks as though I waited too long. Unfortunate but understandable. Good videos, glad you guys are taking the time to explain all these things.

Thanks for the video. I've recently looked into this issue. I believe it's more than one thing and it's more about stacking tolerances. Bad ball joints, tie rods, tires, control arms and bushings, track arm and track arm bushings, steering column bearing/bushing, and a factory weak steering box that leaves the spindle/final shaft with a small amount of flex that eventually wears the steering box spindle spline. All these factors are present on my Dodge ram. When you add up all the sloppy tolerances or stack them it's a recipe for failure. It's bad engineering and parts from the factory. Basically junk.
Soon I'm going to have my ball joints replaced but I'm going farther and go with new track bar B&D drop links, Redhead steering box and a steering brace, new Delrin steering column bushing, BOB track arm bushings, and Core control arms. I will have new tires. All together these upgrades which should already be factory on a truck will lower the tolerances and slop in the axle, steering, and wheel interfaces and reduce the wear and opportunity for death wobble. So it's probably a combination of things going on out of spec that create this and I'm hoping to isolate as much any probable causes and I just plainly need to replace my worn out parts at this time so why not go all in and do it whole hog so to speak.

Will you guys ever consider building steering components again in the future?

Thanks guys, most helpful. I have a 2013 RAM 3500HD turbo with bad D.W., now I know what to look for and how to talk to the shop.

I was expecting you to shut the engine off mid-wobble to see if killing hydraulics would stop it. I'll be picking up some of your joints for my dodge this year.

It's a shame as big as an issue this is on these trucks how many people haven't seen this video. Excellent information, I've got your ball joints on my shelf while I'm reviewing your install process. I wish you still offered Dodge steering Synergy MFG just upped the price on their T Link from 750 ish to 930 USD; I had to bite the bullet looking at my Moog Y link installed by the previous owners.

I have work in and out of used tire shops for 20 plus years and I can't tell you how many times I have slept a brand new set of tires on just to find out one of them is out of round

Glad somebody finally showed how tires can be out of round, you can balance a football but it wont roll…

I changed everything and and I ave a brand new steering gear box siting in the passenger side. But I think I'm going to go get my wheel balanced. I can't drive on yellow head trail at all.

@@EMFEVO try the procomp MT2's. i work at a truck/jeep customization shop. we go through a mountain of tires every single year. honestly the most consistent ones that performs great on-road and off-road are the Procomp MT2's. take the least amount of weight to balance(tire manufacturing quality) and quieter. made by Maxxis.

Yes Tires, Ball Joints, tie rod ends etc can and will cause DW. However, I believe a lot of it has to with the gear box.

BFG KO2 tires will always induce more death wobble on these trucks. They are a horrible tire. Don’t blame me talk to Don Thuren about that
