  • In this video you'll learn my 3 easiest maintenance checks to keep your XTool D1 laser running in tip-top shape! I'll cover the top three things that give new machine owners the most amount of grief.
Reduce downtime and ruined projects by performing the steps in this video!
The Laser Channel is geared towards new machine users and those bridging the gap between creating projects and operating a laser tool.
Each check is covered step-by-step and also explains why that particular maintenance check is important. There's certainly more things to check on a laser machine and I'll cover those in-depth in a future video!
We've updated some of video equipment and added a green screen to make the studio a bit more attractive!

Oh my goodness! I was so lost when someone asked if I oil my rails… I clearly had not, luckily I’ve only had it a week! Your video helped me save my machine! Thank you so much! ❤

Thank you- a little maintenance goes a long way in keeping the machine running like new!

I would not take the lenses off the laser module. The only one that can get dirty, is the outside face of the outer lens which can be cleaned without removing it. Taking them apart only creates the chance to get the other surfaces dirty if you are not careful. The only time you should remove them is if they need to be fixed.

We disagree. Removing the lens serves two purposes in the video:
      1. It shows people they can be removed for cleaning or servicing
      2. Really dirty lenses often need to soak in alcohol overnight to fully clean.
There are many ways to clean and service the laser machine- this is how we clean ours and the machine continues to work like new.
Your cleaning methods may differ and that's ok.

I am considering purchasing the D1 Pro 10 Watt. But I am a little bit concerned about the UA-cam videos that I have seen reference to protective lens cracking. As long as you keep the protective lens clean will that prevent the cracking issue?

Thank you for watching the video. You have a very valid concern and I get this question a lot! Yes- an air assist kit will keep the lens cooler and most of all cleaner. A dirty lens will not pass all of the laser energy to the work piece- the "lost" energy is absorbed into the lens and heats up the lens making the lens much harder to clean. At some point there's too much heat built up in the lens and the lens either cracks or has a hole burned through it! Regular cleaning/inspection and an air assist kit will keep you running trouble free for a very long time! Enjoy!

My laser suddenly started burning thick lines rather than cutting basswood. It's pretty new, I've only used it 10 times. The X and Y axis both work fine, laser is moving normally. distance is set to where it should be. Just not cutting. Any Ideas?

Sorry to hear your laser is not cutting like it used to. It sounds like your lens could be dirty especially if you are not running an air assist kit- lenses can get foggy with smoke residue very quickly!

I see the plastic shield around your laser head is removed. Do you recommend removing it? And is there an advantage to removing it?

I recommend following manufactures safety instructions. For me, I removed mine for making videos and found less smoke debris build up with it removed; I do wear the safety googles or run the machine inside an enclosure when not making videos.

At 2:50 you say some of the wheels are hard to get to, so you use your finger to see if they are clean. You DON'T show what you do if they are not clean.
