It's been a while, but I believe that was to lower risk of the mutants going before Chaos on the 1st turn (where he's scripted to cast Quake), which would waste their heals.
ertgh i'm not sure you're aware of this but i WOULD think he did this run on authentic console connected to his PC somehow to allow game play recording to commence.
So many hours of my childhood grinding in the FF Legend series.......he makes it look so easy.
I can not tell you how happy I am to be watching this. Very early memories to this masterpiece. And to see someone play as I used to- with precision!
Loved this game growing up, turned me onto jrpgs. Always thought "skeleton meat" was funny.

Yes, the run was done on an original FFL3 cartridge, recorded via SNES console, Super Game Boy 2 adapter, and capture card.
"Outdated" by PC standards is still generations ahead of the consoles.
