Growing up on the West Coast, I never realized how awesome Michigan is until I got to visit New Buffalo and see Lake Michigan a few years ago. Such a hidden treasure!
Pictured Rocks is stunning, but there are lots of incredible places in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Keweenaw Peninsula, the Porcupine Mountains, Crisp Point, Whitefish Point, Tahquamenon, Kitch-iti-kipi, and the list goes on! And fall is probably the best time to see it, especially the Porcupines.
@@prowrestlingisart6742 We'll be releasing videos on our channel in these places and more of the upper Midwest over the next several months, if you're interested.
@prowrestlingisart6742 Also, if you're visiting Michigan, it's worth a trip to Mackinac Island & Sleeping Bear Dunes, which is on the western part of the lower peninsula. As a Michigander, I love when people come to visit & see all our state has to offer.
The sights all around you are absolutely stunning. The sheer beauty, your super, informative narration, the enthusiasm of you and Pops, the inclusion of your yummy lunches, that cruise sailing past such magnificent sites,..., the hiking trails, have made me want to visit Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. You and Pops have done it again, Josh. FANtastic 🏞👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤠🎊
We just returned from our first trip to the UP. The fall colors were amazing, and all the sights including Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and getting to view the Northern Lights at Sand Point were awe-inspiring. We also went to a Packers game in Green Bay making this the trip of a lifetime. Thanks for letting us relive some of it.
12:06 The way Miner’s Castle looks from the water with those caves underneath-breathtaking! Seeing it from that angle really brings out its beauty even more than from the land.
Totally agree! We were in Marquette last week and the Porcupines on Friday and Saturday, and the woods look like they're on FIRE right now with vibrant colors!
@4:50 that 3.5 mile hike to the light house, if you go along the lake shore instead of the trail, will usually show multiple 1800’s shipwrecks. Amazing area.
We spent a week in Munising this summer exploring Pictured Rocks. We started with the 10 mile hike on the Chapel Loop, then kayaked along the shore, and last we took the same cruise you did as the sunset. One of our favorite trips so far!
Thanks so much for this video- I took detailed notes. Planning a trip around Lake Superior- Canada and the US- in the next couple years and will definitely make a stop here- so awesome!!
Wonderful tour of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore! Michigan is an amazing place to explore. Another gem in Michigan's UP is Tahquamenon Falls State Park - something else to consider on your next trip to this awesome state.
It will still be a while before I travel Michigan state and I can't wait! I've never heard of Pictured Rocks, but plan on traveling around Lake Superior and Huron when I go.
It's interesting how the trees grow right up to the edge of the rock cliffs. Looking at the cliffs from below, it doesn't seem like there'd be enough dirt to sustain growth, but apparently tree roots find enough loose rock/dirt to sink into. The whole trip was spectacular. Such a gorgeous place. So good that people have saved it from development and made it accessible for public enjoyment. Sure, stairs are a pain, but the effort is worth it, and there's probably places where less able visitors can go and experience the beauty. Thank you.
Aw great to see you visiting one of my most favourite places in the world! I really love Grand Marais - so few people have ever been there - once! You want to escape - a good place to go!
I'm glad you and your dad enjoyed Pictured Rocks. It's a great place for backpacking and hiking. So many beaches, waterfslls, and spots you can be alone (even during peak season). You may even run across a black bear or two! One spot I would love for you to check out and share with your audience is Isle Royale. If you want adventure, this is the place to go. It's the country's least visited National Park. The only way to get there is by a three hour ferry ride or by seaplane. The mainlodge on the island is incredible. Your stay will be rustic and spectacular. There's nothing else like it in North America.
Hey Josh!! So happy to see you both up in the UP. Next time you are there, two hikes you MUST do are the Chapel Falls to Mosquito Falls Loop, which is about 10 miles rt. The other is the hike from Upper Tahquamenon Falls to the lower Falls, an out and back which is also about 10 miles. Both are life-changing treks!! I went to the bottom of Log Slide in September when I was there. Had to prove to myself that I could still do it! :) Needless to say, going back up was intense!
Pasties are from the county of Cornwall in England. Known as a Cornish pasty if it's made in Cornwall. Thousands of Cornish miners emigrated to the US to work the mines. The ones you ate were a little rounder than the more traditional oval shape. Usually made with skirt (a cut of beef), potato and swede, locally know as turnip, then plenty of seasoning 👍
was just here in september, loved the cruise, i went at sunset! i also hiked to the au sable lighthouse which was amazing they have tours there as well. and i had pasties at the same place
@ThroughMyLens they had special lighthouse passport stamps and a special lighthouse keeper junior ranger badge, only 300 made, only one like that in the system. Just wear pants and long sleeves because the biting black flies on the trail were brutal!
We did that area tour a couple of years ago. It's truly beautiful. If you didn't see Tahquamenon Falls which is near Pictured Rocks and Bond Falls which is near Paulding MI (western U.P.) you missed the best falls in the U.P. in my opinion.
Wow, you guys really packed it in to do all that in one day! Next time you're over there, you really need to hike (walk really) to Au Sable Lightstation. The station is very nice, but the sandstone around the lake there is incredible with lots of different colors, and the remains of an old shipwreck are a beach along the way.
POOR POPS AFTER THIS TRIP HE WONT WANT TO LOOK AT ANOTHER STEP .I LIKE THE WAY YOU SAY THE THERE ARE STAIRS BUT LUCKILY THERE SHADED IM SURE POPS WAS HAPPY .WHAT A BEAUTIFUL LAKE IN THE BEGINNING AND GEORGEUS FALLS ALL OVER BUT THEY MAKE YOU WORK FOR THE VIEW.THE BOAT MEANT NO STAIRS AND I AGREE THE CASTLE LOOKED MUCH BETTER FROM THE WATER THE ROCK COLORS WHERE .COOL .GREAT TRIP THANKS FOR TAKING ME.ALSO JOSH TELL POPS I MISSED THE PHILAPINES VIDEO FINALLY WATCHED IT AND COMMENTED ALSO THANKS
After living in a single story house for 13 years, my legs would turn into limp noodles after all those stairs! 😂 Great video of an area I used to vacation near when I was a kid.
Another excellent video. I REALLY wanna add this to the trip list. Question: Does anyone know if there is any sea glass along the shores of the Great Lakes...especially in the areas where Josh n pops visited...? Thanxo ❤

Summer & fall is best in Michigan. It can be pretty, if there’s snow, in the winter but can be cold & grey a lot.
My favorite spot in the comments is near the top.
haha!
Those are some of the most impressive rock formations not in the southwest.
