Akechi actually does get some great moments in this game. In the early game he's more tolerant I think due to the unknown circumstances but as it progresses and he interacts with characters like Naoto, Koromaru, Ken and Shinji it really opens up his perspective and shows elements we didn't see in P5. When it comes to this I think he just wants to deal with this movie so he can gain a full understanding of what's going on and FEMC is of course, naturally polite to him.

Though PQ2's just "P5 is so cool!" I find the way Minako asks questions just so polite and not invasive at all. I think she has a way of praising people that sound genuine.
It’s more than “P5 is so cool!”, it’s also “Hamuko is so great!” For real, what was the point of her? It would’ve been interesting to have the Makoto, Hamuko, and Hamuko’s world. Makoto’s SEES already got their time in the previous game. Hilarious that for the first time they ever got to meet or be acknowledged by ATLUS, those two hardly interact meaningfully and all it is is Hamuko being “sooo cool” w/ the other SEES members. It would’ve been better to see her SEES since they’ve only been featured in one game, while Makoto’s has been in 4 other games.
It's fitting of her character as well. Think about it, in PQ2 Minako feels like a genuine outcast among her P3 counterparts because she knows all of them, but they don't know her. And what are the Phantom Thieves "Outcasts who were unfairly labelled" it would make sense that Minako of all people would feel a connection to them. If there's one character who stands out in this game it's Minako.

Yu: Kingpin (it fits) Yosuke: Ninja (because he's quick, agile and uses daggers) Chie: Dragon (because of kung fu association) Yukiko: Blossom (because of the whole "proper japanese lady" thing) Kanji: Crossbones (because of his shirt) Rise: Star (she is an idol, but also stars were used for navigation way back when, and rise is the navigator) Teddie: Ted (if morgana's code name is just his name but short, then we can do the same for teddie) Naoto: Prince (because of the whole detective prince thing) Minato: Blues (his hair, but also the music genre fits with him wearing head phones, and feeling blue is a synonym for being sad, and minato is literally dead inside) Minako: Sparkle (bright personality, but also a single spark can cause a destructive flame, and based on the lyrics of wiping all out, minako wants to be taken seriously, like fire is) Yukari: Sniper (because bow and arrow) Junpei: Slugger (because baseball) Akihiko: Champ (because boxing) Mitsuru: Empress (i would pick queen, but makoto already has that) Fuuka: Guide (that's her job) Aigis: Ribbon (it fits) Koromaru: Koro (same as morgana and teddie) Ken: Lancer (jup, his weapon) Shinjiro: Cloak (his outfit, but he also tries to keep his past cloaked) Some of these might not seem too creative, but i would like to point out that of the eight core phantom thieves, three named themselves after the shape of their masks
What's funny is that, if the P3 crew mention they are stopping Apathy Syndrome, the P4 Crew would know about it, especially Naoto since it would be in the news and all over the internet and such
@Alexander Carr You’re taking too seriously. The joke I made is when Kotone/FemMC mention that the PT changed to their uniforms like a magical girl style and I referenced that Violet’s transformation sequence was like a Magical girl sequence like sailor moon.
@Alexander Carr joker is mute in this game, Morgana has to reason to mention, and none of the other PTs know about her so there’s no reason to bring her up Hell, this could just be a reference to her
@@ma.2089 I don't exactly think it's possible to reference something new in an old game like this, especially seeing as Royal came years after PQ2. -Bit of spoiler below- There could be hints pointing at Kasumi/Sumire here and there, but outright references aren't possible in the slightest
P3 gang: Represent their will to fight for the world and saving them without any recognition P4 mystery investigation team: crushing the tarot card to grasp the truth of this world and hold on to their own destiny P5 theives: Using mask as a rebellion against society that won't accept them and will fight it for the their own justice
The "fate" they destroy. The "fate," the tarot cards they take into their own hands and accepting your own "past"... Or something, I ain't good at explaining
Q2 has full acting though, it just has far more dialogue quite a number of those scenes had to use stock sounds. Fortunately Q2 has the better story and the better gameplay to back itself up though.
Ya Atlus assumed PQ2 wouldn't do as well in the states so they didn't bother with a dub. Which is sad but hey at least we got the game for awhile many thought it would be exclusive
Seems like it’s unanimous that using code names on missions is cooler. While putting a gun shaped device to your head can sometimes give the wrong impression, pulling off a mask and getting a costume to go with it is overall cooler. But the P3 cast are overall more organized as they do have an official sponsor in the Kirijo group.
Keep in mind, the Phantom Thieves are a vigilante group and media sensation that publicly and quite flashily announces to the world that they are going to steal a person's heart, while SEES is a top-secret corporate-backed operations unit tasked with operating during a period of time almost no one else is even aware exists.
I love how weak everyone else's codenames are, save for Narukami. I feel like Chie could be Dragon, Yukiko could be Phoenix or smth similar, and P4 cast could continue with that mythical creature naming system, with Narukami staying as Kingpin.
I feel like you could connect it to their P4A nicknames Like, Ressentiment for Yosuke Dragon for Chie Snow Black for Yukiko Emperor for Kanji (matches up with his Arcana, too) Superstar for Rise (because Idol is, in fact, too obvious) Beast for Teddie Killjoy for Naoto (on the one hand, oof, but on the other, it is kinda cool) Slugger for Junpei Pink Sniper for Yukari Two-fist for Akihiko Imperious for Mitsuru Pretentious for Ken Tenderfoot for Koromaru And then we can expand that to others, like Dick for Adachi.
@@demi-femme4821 Actually, Ted for Teddie makes sense since they were following the same logic with Morgana where his code name was just a shortened version of his actual name, same with Sophia in Persona 5 Strikers where her codename is Sophie.
This is during the Sae arc, regarding PQ2. What's real interesting is that Akechi is playing the Phantom Thieves, yet they are also playing him. They're going to be ultimately betraying each other, yet here they are, working together. It's just something that's underlying everything going on in PQ2. The Thieves know he's gonna betray them. Akechi thinks he's got the upper hand on them. Before the year is out, Akechi's life will end. Just... sobering when you dwell on the dynamics of their relationship for this game. They're goofing around, yet they have to stab each other in the back. Akechi STILL has his plan to kill Joker in custody. Just adds a layer to EVERYthing the P5 crew does in this game.
PQ definitely has more of the “how both teams operate” with their conversations about the dark hour and tv world. And the P3 gang give more of an explanation as to why they use evokers to summon personas. But I especially liked when Mitsuru said that both teams simply have different burdens that they carry, as that difference shouldn’t invalidate the P4 gang’s efforts for saving their town vs SEES with saving the world. But Q2 was just more focused on how cool the P5 gang are for having outfits and code names, and long conversations about giving everyone code names that honestly kind of dragged on for too long for me. (Even some of the characters got annoyed too) And then only one comment from Ryuji and femc about the different ways to summon a persona, you’d think there be more to talk about... (this game really is just “P5 featuring 3 and 4” huh) However, I feel bad for P4 in both games... yeah tarot card crushing isn’t as flashy as using a mask + costume or shooting yourself in the head with a gun, but it’s still a different summoning method. And each member has a different way of crushing the cards (Yosuke literally does a flip, I love how extra that is!) Edit: Decided to come back to this long comment, and I’m amazed at both how many ppl liked what I said, and especially how respectful the comments have been! Heck, I’m more surprised that ppl have been discussing on this thread all this time and even now. My opinions on what I said in my og post haven’t changed, but I enjoyed reading what everyone had to say or add on regardless if I fully agreed or not. I hope y’all continue to keep it peaceful down there, and have more fun and interesting discussions ❤️
For another look at things, while the p3 crew worked more to save the world from entire death, they also didn't directly face a god. In fact, the character with a connection to Nyx even would rather side with the crew over just killing everyone. Meanwhile, the P4 crew directly found themselves in the middle of a god's machinations. The difference in the trial and the willingness of the others to go along with the journey may also be included in the difference. P3 had the active threat of death present, so the persona users needed the resolve to face death itself in order to activate their personas. P5 had persona users that were so frustrated with the state of affairs they were faced with and the events around them that they shed their weaker, more powerless selves to become the phantom thieves of heart. P4 crew mostly just learned important lessons about themselves and tagged along for the ride, hence the most simple way of summoning their personas. Then again, this is just some thoughts I have about this.
@@2reinrein I was gonna make a counter, but yeah Nyx isn’t a god. Ryoji called her the mother of shadows. She is basically death itself, not a god or god of death like other beings And I didn’t mind your addition, I see your point
Probably because the P3 and P4 cast already met... So the players know what they think of each other... Since P5 is the new guy, players would like to know more about how they'd interact with the P3 and P4 cast, thus the emphasis on P5. That's just me playing devil's advocate though.

I LAUGHED HARD like how Naoto answered so fast and of you think about it, out of all the characters in the group Naoto is actually the one with the real weapon XD (possibly Akechi too)
Akechi has no real gun. He stole the guard’s gun to kill him and shadow Ren, then he left the gun behind. Akechi’s meta verse gun is nothing but a toy.
Yeah that bothered me too... it’s not as flashy like the others but it’s still their style. You’d think there’d be a conversation as to why each member crushes the card differently, like Yosuke doing a flip or Naoto shooting it with a gun
Well, tarot cards are supposed to "reveal the truth" right? It fits the i.t & the themes of persona 4 quite nicely since they each faced the ugly parts of themselves
Yu - Kingpin (The leader, has that player aura about him) Yosuke - Prince (Referring to Prince of Junes) Chie - Dragon (Referring to Trial of the Dragon) Yukiko - Phoenix (Majestic, her persona uses fire attacks) Kanji - Bulldog (Often seen as vicious, but like most dogs he has a softer side) Naoto - Jack (fits with the card theme (Joker, Queen), a nickname for a detective) Rise - Harmony (Musical term referring to her being an idol, provides support for the team) Teddie - Ted (It's Ted...) Not as familiar with P3 since I've only watched the films but I've got a couple: Makoto - Prophet (He is literally Persona Jesus) Mitsuru - Butcher (Nickname for an executioner) Junpei - Slugger (Baseball reference) Akihiko - Gladiator (A fighter with unbreakable spirit) Aigis - Android (A robot with human spirit)
If I understand the metaphysics of the SMT/Persona world correctly, the Phantom Thieves aren't just wearing their will as a metaphor, but literally. Their current outfit is made of will energy, the same meta componentry that makes up the castles/dungeons, the sparks created by pistol summoning, and the bodies of the demons/persona themselves. It has no weight or constriction as they're not technically wearing a "thing", but an energy form resembling clothes that covers them, so they can bound around with full flexibility. They may also technically be naked... 😳
Bring in team nineties from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. They’d probably be called geezers and grandmas, by the teams from 3, 4, and 5. And then there’s be this odd moment: Oracle: why is it that Joker is the only one of us that can summon multiple personas, while you guys can apparently share your multiple personas? Baofu: you kids are fucking ameteurs.
The p3 team that essentially goes into another world via waiting for the hidden hour finds it hard to believe that the p4 team can go into another world via entering inside of a tv. Find it hard to believe to not believe.
Now I really want to know... If SEES and the Investigation Team end up in the Metaverse, then will they transform into phantom thief attire? They may not have in PQ2, but that could be because they've never been to Mementos or any Palaces before.
Although different in appearances, I'd assume Tartarus and the Midnight Channel are inherently no different from the Metaverse, realms of cognition. So whatever means each group has of accessing each of their respective places probably won't change if they do so in a different place, so no outfits of rebellion for them likely
@@saltyfishface4618 That is an interesting theory. Does that mean if those two teams entered the Metaverse, would they not get their outfits? I guess we don't know exactly how the Metaverse works
In Arena the Shadow Operatives enter in the TV world and they discover that they don´t need to use evokers to summon their personas there. They only needed to think about it. Then Inaba turns into a Dark Hour and the Investigation Team still could do their stuff without evokers. I think that if both groups enter in the Metaverse they won´t get their attires for not having the "rebellion" awakening, they don´t need to hide themselves from society but they probably will be able to summon their personas without problems and without needing a mask. Anyway would be really cool if any persona user who enters in the Metaverse gets a costume.
@@Amarant127 Good points. I'm sure they would be given special attire because Atlus wants to be creative and they can milk them for merch. I also wonder if the Thieves would still have their attire in Tartarus or the TV World. Maybe we'll find out if they make Persona 5 Arena :)
@@dustydave961 In the Cinema world it works at least while their weapons don´t for cognition reasons so who knows. Would be awesome to see Narukami in Phantom attire.
it's funny that the p4 team says that saving the world is something you only see in movies and stuff when later on in P4 you have to do the exact same thing lol
The P3 cast are able to summon their persona in the real world right? P4 and P5 are able to use it in an alternate world. Damn P3 cast are something else with that much force of will.
Is more because the Dark Hour takes place in the real world and they force it with the evoker. In P4 Arena it happens in Inaba and everybody (P3 and P4 casts) can summon their personas in real world too. If a persona user enters in a certain zone (Dark Hour, TV World or Metaverse) his/her powers will work accord to the area (for example, in TV World they don´t need evokers so P3 users were calling their personas with their minds).
@@Amarant127 it sorta depends. Cuz Fuuka was shown in P4A able to summon a persona in the real world and outside the dark hour. Something Rise could not. Also something that Makoto could do that Yu (and Ren) couldn’t was move fusion. So it feels like the P3 cast are likely stronger since it does take more to summon their personas in the dark hour compared to the TV world. It’s possible for everyone else to do it irl, but none of them have shown capabilities like Fuuka and Makoto (tho might not reflect on the other kid’s capabilities since he has the universe arcana and held death within his body). That said, didn’t the P3 cast still use their evokers in P4A? Other that that moment they’ve never been to the TV world.
Same for the P1 and P2 casts. They all can use multiple personas each and can summon their Personas just by posing in situations like The Dark Hour. However, them being far stronger than the P3-5 casts is likely related to why the events of those games happened (Phil and Nyarly), whereas P3-5 happens without their involvement. And it seems that the fool persona wielder causes the other kids to get their persona; rather than it being given by Phil. Instead of everyone being given it, it seems it’s only given to the “fool” (0) who then gives it to other arcana ppl.
@@ma.2089 In Arena is shown that the Kirijo Group has objects that can recreate the Dark Hour in a room. I think it was the reason of why Fuuka was able to using her persona. Of course Rise has no idea about this so she thinks that she did it outside. But Rise is powerful, her multiple faces and constant change makes her the user closest to a wildcard. She can´t change personas but can change hers to adapt it to the current situation turning it into a fighting one or a king size like Satanael. About Makoto, the Universe arcana power until now is to kill yourself to become a seal. He can perform fusion spells due to death that makes him the wizard of the MCs. The fact is that Joker is the agile one and Yu the physical stronger, their stats in Q2 (or in Star Ocean x Persona 5) reinforce this (wizard, rogue and tank). Each MC is special in his own way and the teams equal. For example, Elizabeth was in panic when Yu unleashed the true power of the wild saying that she hadn´t seen anything like that before. I don´t see how to use a tool to force your persona to go out is to be strong. The IT had to face the worst of themselves and be almost killed in the process to get their personas. I don´t remember if the P3 use their evokers in the Dark Hour in Inaba but they didn´t in the TV World because they discovered that thinking about it was faster.
I see a lot of comments saying P5 rips off a mask, nobody mentions that it looks like their face under the mask goes too, considering how bloody it looks. Edited for spelling errors
The other teams are commenting on how weird the PT's outfits are, when really it's just as weird fighting monsters and solving murders wearing your school uniform.
One thing that annoys me is how Narukami and Amamiya don't fit into the game's character limit for names despite the fact that there are characters in the game with longer names too. Akihiko and Morgana for example.
In fairness, the character limit was probably made with Japanese characters in mind. With Japanese characters, every name you just mentioned would be 4 characters long (though their names would also be stylized as Kanji and therefore no more than 3 characters long)
Could you imagine if THAT broadcast in 5 had aired before the events of the game Yu: there body’s end up on Tv polls Ren: does the name toro Adachi rings a bell Yu:yes Ren: I have good news Yu: yeah he works with my uncle and he sometimes eats dinner with us Ren: I have bad news
For P4 codenames Yukiko: Hostess could honestly work, otherwise Nurse Chie: Butcher, kinda aggressive, but I think it's a good mix of fighting and meat Kanji: Wrestler, come on guys, that was obvious Yosuke: Ninja Teddie: Bear Rise: Idol Naoto: Detective or Gunslinger Yu: Samurai, I don't understand why Kingpin should work for him, granted I haven't seen the entirety of P4's story, but him using a katana and his persona being quite literally one of the first gods in japanese mythology, Samurai seems fitting for me The beauty of P5's codenames is that it's a simple but effective codename, saying that Idol is too obvious when the guy wearing a Fox mask is called mother fucking Fox is a lil bit hypocritical SKULL
For P3 Yukari: Archer, simple yet effective Akihiko has to be Boxer, as much as I love the gag, if it was supposed to he serious, Boxer it is Shinji I would go with Brother, as much as that sounds strange, it is what defines him best, other than that I could only think of Yakuza or Gangster soooooo Junpei is Batter, both he being a baseball star and the way he fights Mitsuru is Empress, it's literally what they called her, but in a single word Ken as Lancer is simple yet effective again Koromaru I'd say either Gatekeeper, Guardian or plain ol Dog Fuyuka I have no idea, Strategist is too big, Advisor is lame, so yeah, got nothing Makoto and Minako could be Musician and Muse or Blue and Red, both represents them really well as complementary or opposite simbols
The Kingpin part is a reference to the fighting game where everyone has a title. Yu's was Sister Complex Kingpin of Steel which is why they immediately mentioned Nanako there.
@@leonardodelimaferreira8509 I don't know but it fits for me in a way I just can't explain. He just feels like someone you'd call a kingpin. I'm guessing the folks who made Arena thought the same thing.
@@leonardodelimaferreira8509 There's actually some reason for that. Basically, before Persona 4 released in Japan, Japanese fans called him "Banchou," which is the name of a leader of a group of delinquents, as Izanagi's long leather jacket looked like a Banchou jacket. It was picked up for Persona 4 Arena, but in the West it was translated as Kingpin, as "Leader of a group of delinquents" is obviously too long, so they needed something snappy with a similar meaning.
I like the fact that Ken wants to know more about the Phantom Thevies. I want to see a Fanfiction where Ken helps Shiho who’s been transferred to another school after the whole Kamoshida incident.

I would love if the P3&4 cast got Phantom Thief outfits and proper codenames at some point. Granted they operate a little different from thieves, but still!
A reminder over the burden the young team from P3 had, literal teens forced to carry on an unfathomable burden to save the world with only a handful of people ever knowing of their courage, sacrifice and bravery. The Investigation Team and the Phantom Thieves both also faced many hardships yet the constant threat of death the S.E.E.S. faced has made them my favourites.

Yukiko: Blossom (because of the whole "proper japanese lady" thing)
Kanji: Crossbones (because of his shirt)

Technically, Leblanc sponsors the phantom thieves.

(this game really is just “P5 featuring 3 and 4” huh)
However, I feel bad for P4 in both games... yeah tarot card crushing isn’t as flashy as using a mask + costume or shooting yourself in the head with a gun, but it’s still a different summoning method. And each member has a different way of crushing the cards (Yosuke literally does a flip, I love how extra that is!)
Edit: Decided to come back to this long comment, and I’m amazed at both how many ppl liked what I said, and especially how respectful the comments have been!
She is basically death itself, not a god or god of death like other beings
And I didn’t mind your addition, I see your point
Probably because the P3 and P4 cast already met... So the players know what they think of each other... Since P5 is the new guy, players would like to know more about how they'd interact with the P3 and P4 cast, thus the emphasis on P5. That's just me playing devil's advocate though.

Think of it like Bayonetta, her clothes are pretty much her own hair.
Wasn't it explained that the outfits were basically formed from their own Will of Rebellion to protect them from the Distortions in the Metaverse?
Meanwhile in P2 their will is reality

Bring in team nineties from Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. They’d probably be called geezers and grandmas, by the teams from 3, 4, and 5. And then there’s be this odd moment:
Oracle: why is it that Joker is the only one of us that can summon multiple personas, while you guys can apparently share your multiple personas?
Baofu: you kids are fucking ameteurs.
The p3 team that essentially goes into another world via waiting for the hidden hour finds it hard to believe that the p4 team can go into another world via entering inside of a tv.
Find it hard to believe to not believe.
Junpei's Believe It Or Don't finally got a second season.

I think that The Dark Hour is the equivalent of Mementos combining with the real world, that is why it is possible to summon Personas.

Koromaru I'd say either Gatekeeper, Guardian or plain ol Dog
Fuyuka I have no idea, Strategist is too big, Advisor is lame, so yeah, got nothing
Makoto and Minako could be Musician and Muse or Blue and Red, both represents them really well as complementary or opposite simbols
The Kingpin part is a reference to the fighting game where everyone has a title.
Yu's was Sister Complex Kingpin of Steel which is why they immediately mentioned Nanako there.
@@alexanderticonuwu7591 yeah but why kingpin?
All this just makes me want a big crossover game with no cut corners involving all the cast members. Obviously that'd be a big ask but the pay off would be worth it.
Naoto really was like: DID SOMEONE SAYS *GUN* ?
i wonder of all the mascot characters represent a force of human consciousness
like morgana was hope is teddy love?
that would explain a lot of teddie's behavior tbh
I would love a legit persona game where all the protagonists and their friends comes together to fight one major enemy
technically the P4 cast did save the world....i mean kind of
i think the final villain wanted to basically erase free-will from what i remember
Yeah but at that point they thought it was just Inaba
@@maxenswlfr1877 ....that is actually completely fair didnt know when in the persona 4 game the Q games occur tbh
The plan was to turn all humanity into shadows that isn´t too different of being killed.
@@Amarant127 yea....i mean they'd be alive but not in the same way
@@alakazamlover4908 Being a mindless monster accord to some creepy scenes in P3.
6:19 Kotone predicting Kasumire’s first transformation.
I would love if the P3&4 cast got Phantom Thief outfits and proper codenames at some point. Granted they operate a little different from thieves, but still!
4:44 never heard thus line before and I LOVE it. No context.
Meanwhile akechi standing in the back trying not to unleash loki and blow everything up
A reminder over the burden the young team from P3 had, literal teens forced to carry on an unfathomable burden to save the world with only a handful of people ever knowing of their courage, sacrifice and bravery. The Investigation Team and the Phantom Thieves both also faced many hardships yet the constant threat of death the S.E.E.S. faced has made them my favourites.
Seeing Shinji's remark on how Akihiko dumps protein powder on his food is more funny to me now that Reload retconned that retcon.
Kanji should've been Bunny because that's the most common animal he crochets.
Maybe, but it doesn't really help that the bunny in this game is a villain who turns into one because of his insatiable sex drive. Does that fit Kanji?
@@Akechi_The_Phantom_Detective .... a fair argument
A truly fair one...
Mitsuru: do you all not use guns?
Naoto: *Clicks gun* I have a legal permit and everything
Ted might be the worst suggestion for a codename, imagine the phantom thieves trying to hide their identities calling each other Mak, Gor, Har or An.
Tell that to Sophia. Why did they think Sophie was a good codename?
@@ilycea”pinocchio” i think would be a good fit but i guess it doesn’t really match the rest of them
18:15 No, Haru. Just no. Don't you know that being Lancer is suffering?
But is the name of deltarune's best boy
Haru ga shinda!
@@NEETKitten Shouldn't be Ken? He's the Lancer.
@@neoforrester4401 Yeah but I wouldn't care if he died, even as a gag.
