Hey, Elliot. Thanks for sharing this with us. You’re amazing, mate. I’d like to add that your voice sounds even more gentle now since you’re a father of two 😄
@@ETJEnglish But if Im speaking, for example: ' my Mother is amazing' in British RP dialect, so I must speak with 'r' always? Not like ' my motha is amasing'?
I watched harry potter .. I felt like improving, I can understand their words and sentences, even they're fast, the only problem is my vocabulary, so I need to upgrade my vocabulary whenever I hear new words, but yes you're really helping me so much..
Mate! I love your British accent, it's amazing and I would love for you to make more content related to British culture and phonetics and grammar, I just love it.
Hi Elliot. Wonderful vídeo, it is more clear for me now to understand how and when to conect words. It is always confused for me as brazilian person. Have a good weekend.
Quick question for your course I've been wanting to purchase it ever since I've discovered your channel to be honest The only reason I didn't do it yet is lack of time. It wouldn't be useful to subscribe to it if I barely work on it But now that I'm starting to be slightly more available, how much time a day/a week do you usually expect/recommend? I guess it depends on the person obviously, but on average. Knowing that I think I have a decent-ish accent already and I'm fluent when it comes to understanding. Regarding speaking, I'm not sure. I know I am aware of the words, but I'm not sure if I'd think about using them or if I instinctively go for more basic ones
Hello! Thanks for your question. It's great to know that you're interested in working with me on your accent. To be honest, it's about fitting it in to your daily life. I will give you tips and advice on this (based on your situation and accent) at the very beginning of the course, when you send me your first voice message. For example, each sound (on average) takes my students 10-14 days to build muscle memory - so you would only need to watch one of the lessons every 1-2 weeks. During the time between lessons, you can send me voice messages on WhatsApp to get corrections. This could be a 30 second clip practicing some sentences when you're having a busy day, or it could be a 10 minute conversation message, when you have more time. I will respond with feedback and keep the conversation whenever there is any. So ideally, you would try to practice every day.. I usually recommend short but frequent practice throughout the day (eg. 10 minutes of listening practice in the morning, 5 minutes of reading out loud during the day, 10 minutes of free speech/sentence practice in the afternoon - or whatever works for you). It's completely flexible and I created the course with busy people in mind. Let me know if you have any questions. If it's easier to email me: etjenglish@gmail.com Cheers. Elliott
Elliot, am I wrong or some British singers sometimes pronounce the 't' the way Americans do? The Beatles come to mind like in "Hey, Judy"... "Take a sad song and make it better..." What do you say?
It’s a very popular thing in the music industry to borrow bits of the American accent. This is one of the main reasons why I don’t recommend using music for learning pronunciation
I've always thought that connective speech was the same as linking, or linking words... If I got it right, linking is actually a part of connective speech, is it so? What else is there? Thanks for your videos!
I like British accent more than American
British accent is by far more appealing.

why your speaking is much more clearer than any other British people,i can totally understand every words
Because it's modern RP

Thanks! Yes, I definitely have developed a softer voice since having 2 kids 😅
@@ETJEnglish 4:28 It is a constant norm that in such cases the 'r' is always pronounced, or are these exceptions?
R is only pronounced in RP English when it comes before a vowel sound, or if we are connecting our speech.

I've always thought that connective speech was the same as linking, or linking words...
If I got it right, linking is actually a part of connective speech, is it so? What else is there?
Thanks for your videos!
Connected speech is the general umbrella term for all of the things that make it happen: linking, intrusive sounds, assimilation, elision etc.
Do you have any video on assimilation?
Again, thank you so much for what you do!
thank you Elliot! You´re the best pronunciation teacher 🙂

Can you smelalalalala what the Rock, is cooking
Sorry I had to 😂😭
FINALLY! (Another Rock reference 😅) somebody said it 🙌🏼
I cannot understand this concept of linking, I am German 😂
¿There are a lot of people or there is a lot of people?
There are
because of my children, watching Peppa pig cartoons I realised the narrator says "Peppa (r) and George.." adding a R between vowels
Yep, very common. It is called an intrusive /r/ and is a different type of connected speech.
I am indian 😢
