    Correct me if I'm wrong, but it has a slight similarity to schwa: /ə/
    I would like a video of both sounds to see the differences between the two.

    • @sarahdoherty5933
      @sarahdoherty5933 2 місяці тому

      I'm not the teacher but the difference between the two is that this one is stressed and the schwa is unstressed

    I'm eastern European and indeed i use to pronounce wrongly not only this but many others words even if i known the words my pronunciation made it very difficult to be understood by my colleagues etc
    Since i took Eliot course i had improved a lot in my pronunciation and confidence of speaking and having long conversations
    Takin the course was one of my best investments
    I still have to work on my grammar but what's the use to known grammar if people can't understand you😅

    Another great video! Thank you Teacher Eliot!
    BTW, could we say that the /ɜː/ sound is kind of like a longer version of the schwa sound? I think I've read it somewhere before.

    • @ETJEnglish
      @ETJEnglish  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks! Glad you found it useful. It’s very similar to the schwa, but the mouth makes just a little bit more effort to open a tiny bit more. The schwa is a very weak and relaxed sound and this one is strong. Have a nice weekend!

    Hi! I’m Japanese and you mentioned how Japanese people pronounce is very good point.
    As you know we have only one “a” sound so we can’t tell differences.
    So when you showed many Japanese pronounce that, I actually couldn’t understand.
    I feel when you say “work” in laughing face, you probably pronounce Japanese way. Hehe.
    Anyway all I want to say is please keep showing Japanese people pronounce! Then I know the wrong pronunciation.

    Hi, can you do a video to cover "hard attack" please? It's to do with using a glottal stop to say the vowel for words that start with a vowel such as "accent", "attack", "example". It's a very short hard vowel I'm using and not elongated. . Im trying to learn modern rp and Welsh is my first language. I didn't understand why I was pronouncing such words so differently and now I believe it's due to hard attack. It's almost German in nature and doesnt sound smooth. I do this for every word that starts with a vowel I think. Realising this has been a revelation to me. I'd love your opinion on this and how I can stop this hard attack when trying modern rp, thanks
