Hey guys! If you follow me on Instagram, I've made notes for this lesson with many example words in my most recent post! Don't forget to follow me @etjenglish Everybody wish Kiki (my cat) a happy birthday please! She's 6 years old today :)
Great to have you back Elliott. I would spend hours to learn from your videos and i am grateful to you for sharing them on UA-cam. I am learning and i will continue to do so.
What I struggled with a bit is to know where there is a difference in pronunciation- learned x learned, blessed x blessed, wretched, naked, crooked... etc
I'm happy to have you back teaching English again on YT Thks for yr time n yr hard work for doing this It's means you still care for us as yr student who need yr help
Lovely. Can use this for my students. It even helps me teach other languages, although "think in phonetics" is an especially valid point with English... but it does apply to others.
Hello! Hope you are doing well. Please discuss the sentence reduction or short form of sentences in British english. For example - in American english people say wacha doing instead of What are you doing. Due to this contraction I can not understand what the british speak.
Elliot i want to learn pronunciation of British accent but the biggest problem is this i cant recognise the symbols of pronunciation okay so i want you to teach me these symbols and their pronunciation okay mate you're best teacher and tell me how can I join your British pronunciation course and please reply me dont forget to reply me I'll wait for your message
Hi. You may not hear it very much, but then you should teach French students. Like many French speakers, their instinct goes for "-èd". I keep repeating myself but it seems useless. Old habits die hard. The worst pronunciation, for French speakers, is remember-ED sounding somewhat like "reemambuhrread". Another issue for my students is to distinguish a vowel from a consonant, not to mention a voiced from a voiceless. My students are industrial apprentices, whose interest in their native or any foreign language is closer to an absolute zero. 🤪 Thanks very much for your videos - they are truly useful in our classes. 👏
First: Happy birthday Kiki 😊 Now, I always struggle with the word "asked".it's so difficult for me. And when I pronounce it, it sounds like ask ( present tense)
as an Indonesian it's quite a challenge to separate spelling and phonetic, in the Indonesian language the spelling is always exactly the same as the phonetic..😅
Hey, teacher. I have a really big question. Many people have told me that it's nonsense to study RP as THE ''British English pronunciation'' because there are many different kinds of British English pronunciation. I'd like to know if RP is still spoken and ''normal'' around there (?) and what you think about this statement. I really like RP accent, but now I'm afraid of being the only one speaking like that, like, clearly a foreigner who's just finished language school and still doesn't know how real people talk '-'
1. RP is definitely spoken here - I teach contemporary/modern RP, so essentially the most common, everyday version of it right now in the U.K. (and it continues to change) 2. Pick the accent you like.. or even a combination of many if you want! If you like the RP accent, learn it… if you like the Manchester accent, you could learn that instead. There is no real answer to which accent is best. 3. Don’t forget that accent reduction is an important thing to focus on first! You can build from there Thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Good luck!
Are the sounds of "s", "es" ending in plural nouns and singular verbs similar to the sounds of "ed" ending verbs? Are the sounds of s, es like /s/, /z/, /iz/?
A "posh" accent (upper RP, for example) does have a few differences to the modernised contemporary RP most teachers, like myself, teach online. It's much less common now to hear some aspects of posh accents and they tend to sound outdated in the modern world... people might look at you strangely if you pronounce the world "goal" or "bowl" with a strong /əʊ/ diphthong (like the queen did). Maybe I'll make a video about this in the future.
Thank you for your response! I would like to see video about upper RP. I don't know if this true but some people claim that Emma Watson or Tilda Swinton has "upper RP accent" and if it comes to the queen her accent is slightly different because of German influences. Also Tilda and for example journalist Jo Ellison have accent mixed with Scotish. I would be very glad if you could show the examples. I like voice of Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan but I am sure they have rather modern RP. Sorry for all grammar mistakes. I am very happy to see you on youtube again. Thanks to you my boss in London praised me for the progress!😂
Hey! So I’ve been following for a while before I started making content myself, good to see you active again…would you be up for joining me for an interview / chat which would then be uploaded to my channel? 🤞🏻
As I mentioned in the description, I just cover verbs in this video. Adjectives are a bit different. To answer your question: /bɪˈlʌv.ɪd/ is more common but the dictionary also shows /bɪˈlʌvd/
He may look like a nice man and talk like a nice man but don't let that fool you. He really is a nice man. Of course l've changed a bit the famous phrase of Groucho Marx.

I know what voiced and unvoiced are from learning Japanese. But my ears still can't distinguish the 't' and 'd' sounds. They are all sound the same. 😅
Wow I’m glad you’re back😊. Pks eat more Elliott, you look very thin❤
I eat A LOT! I just don't put on weight very easily haha. Thanks for your concern and thanks for watching
❤❤
How about "beloved"? This one doesn't follow the rules... I think some other adjectives too...
As I mentioned in the description, I just cover verbs in this video. Adjectives are a bit different. To answer your question: /bɪˈlʌv.ɪd/ is more common but the dictionary also shows /bɪˈlʌvd/
What about INTERESTED?
/ˈɪn.tres.tɪd/
Often, it sounds like -ed to me. Thanks
He may look like a nice man and talk like a nice man but don't let that fool you. He really is a nice man. Of course l've changed a bit the famous phrase of Groucho Marx.
I like what you did there! Thanks
Why do you transcribe "studied" /ˈstʌdiːd/ with a long vowel whereas "study" is /ˈstʌdi/ ??
