My dad and I used to listen to the Fisherman's Friends together. In fact, it was one of his favorite bands. The last couple years the both of us suffered from depression and anxiety and this song brought us a light. Now, a couple days after my dad passed, this song gives me an incredible happiness that reminds me he's still watching and that this road to nowhere has somewhere to go after all. To be fair, there were probably many Cornish people in your Newfoundland fishing community in the past. When the Cornish moved house, they really moved, for them it was as big a move to Canada as it was to England. If anything, it was better to go to Australia, Chili, Canada or even America, because you might find a Cornish community there.

My sister's family was having a really tough time of things this past year, and I had slept over one night, for a morale boost. The next morning, I volunteered to drive her to work and the kids to school.
"Uh, Uncle Andy....we just passed school...?"
"WE AIN'T GOING! WE'RE GOING TO THE BAY!" and I told my sister, "Call off work, call the school! Tell 'em we're going down to fix the boat! It's an emergency!"
"....but you don't have a boat!"
    "They don't know that!"
and my niece pulled this up on her phone!
We rented a skiff and cruised around the Delaware Bay in the bright October sun all day!

    Come, all you no hopers,
    You jokers and rogues
We're on the road to nowhere,
Let's find out where it goes
It might be a ladder to the stars, who knows
    Come, all you no hopers,
    You jokers and rogues.
Leave all your furrows in the fields where they lie
    Your factories and offices;
    Kiss them all goodbye
Have a little faith in the dream maker in the sky
    There's glory in believing him
And it's all in the beholder's eye.
Turn off your engines and slow down your wheels
Suddenly your master plan loses its appeal
Everybody knows that this reality's not real
So raise a glass to all things past and celebrate how good it feels.
Awash on the sea of our own vanity
We should rejoice in our individuality
Though it's gale force, let's steer a course for sanity

I know plenty of people call the US the greatest nation ever, but honestly when we look past politics, military and economy, its Britain. It has so much faith and good cheer and is willing to spread it to others. But ultimately we aren't seperate nations, we're all a single people, children of God and this song is what we all need to look back and remember what truely remembers. Thanksgiving is coming up and maybe you'll remember this song and think on what you have, your faith, your home, your family and be thankful for it all and maybe you'll be thankfull to these singers in Britain for giving us this song to help us remind us of what truely matters.

Just discovered this fabulous group after watching the movie. Late to the party, but so glad I came - amazing music! Visited Cornwall 3 summers ago and would go back in a minute and now hope to see the group singing!

The movie and music always brings a tear to my eyes, my mum was diagnosed with cancer and was determined to see the film while she was able.
It was the last time I saw her really happy and for that I will always be thankful to the Fisherman's friends.

Love this song, Johnny Mac gives it an extra edge with his Yorkshire accent. They create unusual harmonies with their range of voices, a magical sound that forces you to join in.

I got here randomly and how fitting is that!
It’s like my wondering spirit attracts this stuff. That n algorithms.
37 now, lived in Australia for 2 years driving half way around working the land n stuff. Built a bed in my 4x4.
Lived in NZ for a few years too and moved out to the Canadian Prairies for 4 years. Hit the road up obviously, John Denver playing double obviously.
Been to 50 something countries, some by luck, others accidentally. Had an 1 of 2 engines go on my plane and we bailed out in Iceland.
Writing this because I’ve lost my sweet, Welsh Grandmother a few days ago. She was a traveller at heart, different times mind. Different affordability.
I come back to the UK to settle down, every part of my soul belong on the road, wondering, exploring, feeling. Trying hard to keep my head down but I am my Nan, restless.
The road makes my heart kinder, wish I had the courage to except that’s were I belong.
