Generally good advice, some additional pointers: -If its not a curse a paladin is generally expected to dispell. We have the cheapest dispell in the game that removes 3/4 possible debuffs. -Divine Favour is a great heal at the start of an encounter where everyone is moving into position and tank healing is generally limited -you're buffing salvation on warriors? Overwrite salvation on tanks with wisdom -Divine Intervention is generally cheaper then repair costs so use it each and every single time its of cooldown -DI is a full threat reset. If you have a warlock buddy have him SS you and DI + Soulstone rez. He gets a full threat drop and you get quite a bit of mana back. Obviously not recommended with world buffs. -check AH prices for consumables like mana potions. in most cases dark runes are too expensive for the current content, rather chuck a major mana potion then a greater one and then having to pop a darkrune if you miscalculate. -even in average gear the only bosses where you should have to even remember that you have a mana bar are majordomo, rag and onyxia. If you are a utter cheapskate get a Lei of lilies and Second Wind together they give you almost 1k mana -farm gold via jumpruns and lasherfarming the jumpruns give demonic runes (save for bwl) and the lashers drop allherbs necessary for mana potions except ice caps. But its easy to pawn of the unused ones for icecaps. -if you are on a pvp server i strongly recommend invis and swiftness pots or engineering invis generator and stopwatch. preferably both. You can greatly limit your corpseruns getting to mc if you pop invis+speed and Divine Shield. -the stacking bleed effect from the dog packs before magmadar and the fire and armor debuffs can be dispelled with BOP. Just make sure that the tank isn't currently tanking something and rebuff the overridden blessing right away. Regarding talents: Holy shock and Sanctuary are nor needed, so feel free to skill something you can use the rest of the time. If you're feeling tryhard go up to holy power but 20 pts in holy are fine to. If you primarily focus on dispell and don't mind chugging a few mana potions you can heal full MC with zero points in holy. Without any holy talents I sometimes spend up to 30g in potions per run. This is obviously gear dependend. Not only your own but also the raids.
Blessing of Sanctuary may not be needed, but it does help the MTs out. Its not bad to have one Pally in the raid with it. And yes salv the warriors, your fury warriors will love you (just remind the tanks to click it off).
Do not buff wisdom on tanks to cancel salva, if you are in hardcore guild tanks tend to reach buff cap, and then you might overlap some of their imp buffs.
Your tanks can also get a Weak Aura that clicks off Salv. Also it is important to note that we have the cheapest Cleanse in the game and it is not in fact a dispell. The important distinction being we can only cleanse allies and not dispell a boss.
@@Quissy For a rookie raider I was told I did well. :) I actually watched the video so many times I memorized every notable defuff's name and function. Also the timestamps helped since I played the boss's info just before the pulls. Sadly we didn't kill Rag. This is probably one of the most useful classic pally guides I've seen so far - those boss/trash specific tips, tricks and "what to expect" outlines are the best thing you can do to get yourself ready/competent with healing a raid. Thanks so much for the vid - sub'd with hopes that there's more of these to come!
Nice Job... Was about something like this myself for my guildmates, but you safed me a lot of time with that video.... You dont really need your Shadowaura...Just tell the priests in your raid to buff shadowresist, because it wont stack with your aura and also gives you 60 shadowresi. so you're free to use your other auras. For Addons I use Clique, so I just have to hover with my mouse over the players and not have to click on them for spells. It safes a lot of time if you are switching your targets while healing.... that way you dont have to switch your action bar and also can always target the boss so you can see for example if you have aggro from onyxia, or in combination with classic castbars, if a boss is casting a spell and the tank or other people will get a lot of damage in the next seconds, so you are prepared... I also found HealComm so i can see incoming heals and prevent overhealing the target if someone else is already in the process of healing. There are other Addons that have the same features, but these are the ones I use... All i am missing is a nice UI-Addon where I can arrange the different classes in a line, so I have for example all priests next to eacht other and then all mages ect... which would make prioritising targets for dispelling (at geddon) alot easier... any suggestions?
Step 1: stare at raid screen Step 2: cast flash of light Step 3: repeat (Set your flash of light key bind to mouse scroll up so you won’t break your keyboard lol)
On Lucy, after myself and the tanks are dispelled. Dispel 50% or less HP allies prio. Yeah I use ranks 1,3,& 6 FoL, mostly rank 6. Depending on the amount of damage going out. I see a lot of people stacking +healing and only useing rank 1. They have low base stats and don’t have the mana to keep dispelling people affectively wile maintains higher HPS.
Do you have a video with the addons that you normally use? I took a look (fine, a very quick look) and couldn't find any! That'd be nice to know, thanks for the guide.
you should have 1 lesser rank holy light next to your main, it's easier to start with it easy healing a warrior unless the tank goes under 40% hp directly.
Hey Quissy, I'm so glad you made this guide! I just switched from Ret to Holy and I'm trying to get better in raids. I have a few questions, if you don't mind. Do you use mouseover macros? And if you're on raid-healing duty, how do you choose your target? Since FoL is a fast cast, should paladins be topping up people and leaving big damage heals to other healers? (I got some flak in my last raid because apparently I was getting a heal off on a target while others were using a long-cast heal on the same target...).
hey Stitch! I've asked around a few other Holy Pals and they rarely use their Holy Light (longer cast time, bigger heal). I will use it sometimes however, especially in conjunction with Divine Favor which makes it a free, critical heal. A time I often use it is right when we pull a boss, I will use Divine Favor and start pre-casting a big heal (Holy Light). I will keep interrupting the heal until it seems like an appropriate time to cast it on the main tank. Once that Divine Favor + Holy Light has landed, I will resume my Flash of Lights. Also, I don't use mouseover macros, I just have my cursor disabled so you can't see where my mouse is or where I am clicking, lol.
You use holy light if there is some mechanic such as onyxia flame breath, you should have DBM or some addon that tell you when she will cast it so you use devine favor + biggest rank of holy light and be casting when your dbm gives a note "flame breath" to top your tank 1 sec after he got flame into his face, if your tank resist just move a bit to cancel heal, so you dont overheal for logs, and have saved devine crit for next holy light. That should be your priority in that fight. There is other similar mechanic in MC when your tank getts for instance burned on ragnaros, or someone get bomb you can precast on him. But not for the sake of your tanks health. There is no better tank healer then paladin!
My only real objection here is about downranking. One should use at least 3 different ranks of fol. You should never use a bigger heal than you need to. When you can top someone off with a rank 1 or 4 then use that. Not really needed yet, but good practice for future content.
Lillu agreed. During longer fights like Gar, rag, or majordomo I am typically spamming rank 3 or even rank 1 to keep that mana pool going and to put the +healing gear I worked so hard to farm to work. Full rank heals I will use for shorter bosses my dps just chew through. I’d also like to suggest using pvp trinket on 2nd boss to drop fear and keep them heals going
I agree out of principle but max rank is fine for starting out. Additionally with the mana pool and crit from current raid tier you rarely go OOM. Downranking will become more important in more challenging fights down the line.
hey there! For sure, down ranking can be critical - especially when someone lacks the gear, +healing, mana pool, etc. My Druid alt is level 57 and I had to learn that downranking my Healing Touch was critical for me to not waste all my mana and still cast reasonable heals to keep the group alive. As mentioned in this thread, the longer fights do typically demand that rather than a 20 second Shazzrah kill. I'm sure I will utilize my downranked Flash of Light's in BWL!
hey! I actually use the default Blizzard UI. When you're in a party, look all the way to the left of your party menu and click the triangle. It'll bring up a menu. Click the circular 'i' to bring up a bunch of customization options!
The loot addon is called RCLootCouncil - www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/rclootcouncil-classic. Seems like a pretty good system to distribute loot in my experience so far.
I've never seen the need for it on paladin. We got a one-button dispell for three out of four possible debuffs. A mouseover macro is mandatory however.
I'll check it out. I remember using Decursive back in the day, raiding in Vanilla as a Priest. not sure how much it's changed since then but I remember it just being 1 button that I spammed and it did some serious work!
Holy shock is very mana inefficient, so really the only time to use it would be to get a heal off while you’re moving(repositioning to get out of fire or something).
