I love that Slash respects Billy when he plays his solo by getting in the background, letting billy solo away, then coming back up front for his solo. That is a sign that you respect the other player and his solo, even if yours might be better or worse than theirs.

Billy Gibbons is possibly the coolest man ever to live. He doesn't even need to play, he can just stand there and it'll still be awesome. His bad ass playing is a bonus.

One is not better than the other. They are two of the legends together on one stage. Incredible jam! If Slash seems to be "highlighting," it's because it's his freaking birthday party, and Billy is being a good guest by letting him shine.
You're totally correct Billy's just letting Slash run loose on a song Slash probably has heard hundreds if not thousands of times.
And dang, I bet Billy has played it a few times as well with ZZ Top. I admit, the Slash dance was quick but cool and Billy is just giving Slash a birthday gift and respect. Two legends who could cut a cool album!
