@@SuperChaoticus I once spent half an hour in the air because the tornadoes kept grabbing me and throwing me so high in the sky, by the time I fell back down, another storm had started and the cycle repeated. I spent half the time annoyed and half giggling at how absurd it was 😂
It is a great game, but one has to like the genre to appreciate it. Everything is randomized out of possibilities and the same assets can be re-used by different quests. There is a lack of meaning to everything, but if one enjoys exploring, managing, building and crafting and cooperating there is fun to be had. But for what it is, it is a wonderful game that got redeemed.
I think playing through the storyline is worth the purchase price alone. The fact that you can go on playing the same character after the end of the story is a bonus, but it does get boring eventually. I popped back for Expedition 14 which took me about 5 evenings to finish. My main character has farms built for everything essential now (gold, oxygen, sulpher etc.) and runaway mold farms for nanites, so I can buy anything I want anytime I want. I'm not into building huge bases just for the sake of it. All the same I put a lot more hours into this than Starfield.
@@ziploc2000 That's right. However, the frigate crew incidents sounded much more interesting than what players can experience, but overall the update is still a good step forward. You've essentially played through the game, as have I; now I like to pop back into the game every now and then to see what's new and scan planets. My base is on the freighter and I hardly spend any time building bases on planets. Because the last animal on planets is sometimes hard to find, I'm also thinking of giving up scanning, because the last animal has always taken the fun out of the game for me sooner or later.

5:58 - actually they've been doing that ever since the very first update. Base building was never promised or mentioned in the interviews, yet they did it in their very first update, as well as added tons of features never mentioned anywhere over the years.
Makes sense that they test and iterate on tech that they will use in their next game. They can already get sales from it, players are happy, and the new game has less technical risk.
Such a crazy way of doing business! Risky too.... I mean, look at Arkane Studio. They were a team known for making immersive sim games and had zero experience in FPS games, along with almost none of their technology of experience from their previous games being transferable, and they absolutely nailed it with Redfall! Oh.....wait. Sarcasm over. Isn't it wild when people who specialize in something continue to further develop their specialization, versus throwing everything they're good at out the window and doing something where they're forced to learn everything from scratch with no clue whether or not they'll be any good at it?
@@1_underthesun Comes down to management who has no clue about technology and runs after market trends and quarterly statements to earn a bonus. Studios like Larian have a CEO who actually knows about games and game production.
Funnily enough I was a lot more forgiving on the original release then i would normally be for most games, while it had tons of issues, I did appreciate how ambitious it was and at the time I knew they were a small studio and took their claims with a massive grain of salt.
Same here. Even though i was disappointed about some things, i still sunk about 80 hours into it before any updates came out and I got bored. But every time ive come back over the years so much has been added that its hard to keep track of lol.
the full spectrum swing of my level of respect for sean murray and his team is crazy, they really dug in their heels and restored the reputation for their product developing a game is hard enough, now you have to work even harder to undo its bad rep and they've stuck with it for 8 fucking years, what a huge achievement
I downloaded it for the first time last week and I'm in love with it. Everything from the graphics, gameplay, playerbase to soundtrack. As an elite dangerous fan it scratches that itch that all other space game seems to miss
What I like about no man sky is the fact that it is a story of a man who never stopped dreaming, even when the whol gaming world hated him. He sticked to his dream and created something amazing. And that is why I believe in light no fire.
It is now arguably one of, if not the best space exploration game out there. I've been playing on and off since day 1 and I'm so glad Sean and his team never gave up on this gem. It really is an incredible come back story.
But there is no exploration. Planets dont have POI, planets contain only one biome, in space there is no interesting POI. Game dont have fraction and living universe like in X4, dont have interesting space like in Underspace. It is mediocre sandbox. Empyrion is much better
lol best space exploration, you say? What a load of bollocks. After looking around one planet, maybe two, the rest of it is the damn same with a different coat of paint. Best exploration, my foot.
As much as I really dig the core game concept of No Mans Sky, I'm more excited to actually get my hands on and _play_ Light No Fire as a variation on that concept. It just seems like an inherently more refined version of it, pulling back from a whole universe to a single planet feels like it has more potential for immersion.
Big shout out to the truly dedicated players that put up with the bs. Every time someone needs something you lot rush in to insure this game survives. The RPG players in one area of the galaxy building lore, the guys in the hub giving out resources, and any one who helps or even enhances the experience through their own initiative. Thank god they kept going, and thank god every time the truly dedicated players stuck through. I feel like they should look at the records and say hey, what do you have in the game plus how long, here's your reward and our thanks.
I purchased No Man's Sky at launch, in the 8 years it has been out they have not charged me once. Yet have consistently released impactful content. QoL updates that were not only asked for but ones that fundamentally improved overall feel. And have now totally reworked a core system of the game just to make it feel that much better. And they seemingly have plans for more before the end of the year. Without question they have earned our money and respect.
Using NMS as a test bed for the technology for the next game, while at the same time improving and expanding NMS and buying a lot of community good will, is a very smart strategy
Under the assumption that Light No Fire will be very successful, i can see myself bouncing back between these games whenever i get my "minecraft" fix for a given game theme.
I dunno if they have added multiple biome planets yet, but if they manage to do that that will be a massive win to have earth like planets with many different varied biomes
Seeing the greatness of NMS now makes me even more hype for Light No Fire. I hope that even during its launch and life cycle that NMS still gets those juicy updates
Got much respect for the team. Considering how dire it looked at launch and where they're at now shows you the determination they had to make something good.
A lot of Light No Fire art feels like it's straight out of the Dragon Riders of Pern paperback coverart, this looks like good stuff! I'm a little overwhelmed with all the features and things that NMS has given to me, but I am so glad that it has been a success! I cannot wait for Light No Fire, it will be a day one purchase for me. I'm even hoping I can run a dedicated server for myself and my friends starting day one, if it isn't broken anyway xD.
Lmao, same. I just bought the game last week and thought "Okay, this expedition kinda starts out nice and cozy. Verdant planet. Wtf giant Sauron Eye". I just ran my ass off planet as soon as I get my ship. Eardog Sigma?
I haven’t really played since starting it thought cause the game is REALLY laggy for me for some reason despite me just building a new computer and stuff. It ran just fine on my old laptop too weirdly
No Man's Sky is the greatest exploration game of all time, and it's even more than just an exploration game. Great writing, Great story, great art! This and Cyberpunk are the two greatest achievements in gaming history, in my opinion. If you haven't tried it, you should. It's better than you think it is. Sean, I'll back you in anything you do, you earned it. Someday when I'm pursuing my dev career, I'm going to come find you!
well, bethesda already tried... they made starfield and really drove the point home for a lot of people for why no mans sky is so great... the only reason to really look back and remember starfield at all is the ship building and customization and thats simply because you can't do it in no mans sky ... yet...
I'm not sure a big studio can do what Hello Games have done. They have so much overhead and so much pressure to release the "next big thing" no matter what shape it's in. Imagine going into an executives or shareholders meeting and saying. "We're going to issue free updates for eight years until we have the game we promised." They'd skin you alive! Looks like I'm going back to NMS, yet again, and Light No Fires is going on the wish list.
@@realhorrorshow8547 yes they have such a big studio they should have been able to deliver on launch. But now not only are we getting 100 dolars games, but they often are full of micro transactions.

This redemption arc is what's possible when you don't have a bunch of bloodsucking shareholders insisting that you cut every corner possible to make their dividend checks fatter and fatter.
I love just getting home from work checking out the coordinates database and exploring new bases and discoveries. This game passes the vibe check for 8 years straight
Wow! I got No Man’s Sky like over two years ago on sale and the reason was because it supports VR and I have a VR headset and wanted to play it for the first time in VR. Sadly never got around to it yet. With this update maybe it’s now a perfect time to play this in VR.
you are in for a fucking experience. my advice. savor each step of the main story, drag it out and explore rather than beeline it. it will be far more enjoyable the further you branch out and learn everything before completing the main story, all the pieces of the story will come together that much better if you learn the lore of each race and their languages before taking on the atlas path imho.
I'm almost exclusively a VR gamer these days I and I just got No Man's Sky 2 weeks ago. I'm loving it. It does take a beefy system to play though. The feeling immersion and scale is amazing. There are a few bugs I hope they get worked out. The most annoying one for me your body doesn't turn right if you turn physically so you can end up looking at your own back. I've reported it. Hopefully they'll fix it. VR is less polished than flat screen mode. But even with that bug and some other minor weirdness I'm hooked.
NMS was definitely oversold at the beginning, but it was decent without the hype. Now it's changed and improved so much it's an entirely different game and close to the hype, something I never expected
Decent ? It was barely qualifying as a game, more like a glorified tech demo. And it was sold on promises of things that didn't exist (remember the controversy around the alleged multiplayer functionality that wasn't even there ?), while also being an awfull buggy mess. That wasn't a decent game in any way, and certainly not worth the full price it was sold for. Sure the overhyping didn't help and led to the huge backlash it got, but on the other hand without it the game would have simply fallen into obscurity. Certainly it's a nice redemption story, but it has also sent quite a bad message to the game industry : that you can sell some unfinished, buggy mess as a game, as long as you promise to fix it later. It's not an example that should be followed.
@@Butelish yeahhhh... while I do respect the studio for working to improve it, last time I played maybe a year ago it was still the same boring experience I had at launch.
@@TheNatosI understand, yea the AMBITIOUS features that was originally was gonna be in the game, are still not unfortunately. 😢 And personally, i prefer the art style of that originally build, not talking about the release game version. Cuz the release game had downgraded graohics specifically the lighting effects and more simplified terrain and props!
@Dave_Nosdivad not really, the sales of the game funded the comeback, if anything sony is what made them release the game in it's original state because big publishers want things done on a deadline, something that indie companies cannot always do, especially on such an ambitious project, with a team of 15 people if memory serves. Their comeback story is their success alone.
Light no fire could be so good. I have always thought "why dont gaming companies use proc gen to simulate a world and then go in after to curate it?" And someone is finally doing it. You can get way more scale without feeling like theres no point to being in an area or that you wont miss something if you run through it.
Well I am now getting back into playing action VR games and just recently purchased "No Mans Sky" for my PC, so I will be a beginner at this game. I have watched many you tube videos on the game and looks very exciting to play. There is so much to this game to learn and explore. Thanks for your video on about the updates for the game.
I love NMS so much (I've bought it on 3 different platforms over the years). I'm so happy to see new people coming in and enjoying it. Hello Games are a genuine marvel, I absolutely love their redemption arc. Great video!
Have considered this, but the publicity will be bad if they did this ..I DO think LNF is the ancient history of the NMS universe - another simulation and where the anomaly/travelers started.
I played for about an hour at launch, then refunded. Decided to give it another shot based on what people were saying and I've put in quite a few hours over the last couple weeks. They absolutely came a long way and put a lot of effort into this game which is refreshing to see.
Been playing it since day 1, since the bad launch back in 2016. Its be a rollercoaster of a journey...if the rollercoaster was just going up and up and I never seem to drop down the other side :)
I'm actually one of the few that enjoyed my time in No Man's Sky as at that time I wanted to explore everything I could find on one planet, expecting it all to add together and repeat when I went to the next planet. When I stopped playing was when I went to the second planet and played for a bit before scratching my head in confusion as I found many techs but not the hyperdrive one I needed to go to different systems. So I stopped playing for a short bit thinking it was a bug and then saw the news about people hating it and finding out I got rather lucky from myself not wanting to move on from one planet to another till I had gotten most if not everything done with it. I haven't returned to the game yet as I did then see the writing on the wall when I looked back on my second planet's experience with the terrain being same-ish and then thought it wasn't going to be fixed or redeemed especially as I didn't like the idea of the cargo ship or base building update since those just felt like that they didn't fit with what the story premise was that I purchased it for. Which was, "Be a nomad wondering through the universe ever drawn towards the center of it not ever knowing why but find out possible hints and bit lore along the way while additionally rarely finding signs of someone else having come before you", I still don't know what was at the center of the universe as I heavily kept myself away from it incase I did want to ever return to the game and finish what I had started.
I taught my 7 year old son about space using NMS, and now he is fascinated with the universe. I also explained to him that we can't travel to the stars yet but showed him some rocket launches and the moon landings. He did want to be a pizza delivery guy (he loves garlic pizza), but now he wants to build rockets when he's older instead.
i really hope they do things like removing di-hydrogen crystals, because these certain things that are exactly the same on every planet makes it feel like you haven't gone anywhere new
This came out when i was 14, and it gave me an escape from home life and the lack of school since i had to drop out. It took a little more imagination back then, but i havent ever felt like its a bad game, and its been amazing to grow with the game, even if i took a break for a few years when i went to college to catch up on my education.
"more dense rendering of foliage" I mean last 3 times i played i would run around, stand still. and then it took a solid 30 seconds for all the foliage and details to pop into existence... having it be more dense is sure going to be interesting. (and it's not just me with that issue based on the sheer number of replies on the thread i made about it)
@@simon88397 oh damn. that's good to know. Ill give it another try sometime then. because that issue was really turning me off from playing before. it's also weird because in the past i never had the issue. or didn't notice it. and quite enjoyed the game. but it became so damned jarring at some point.
I've been off and in with No Mans Sky since release always excited to play after the new free updates. Hello Games has truly set the standard on how studios need to conduct business. I have over 40hr on the new update. The water and clouds are now chefs kiss
While I play it solely on Switch, I am so grateful that I bought No Man's Sky when that port came out in 2022. It's become one of my favorite games to boot up and screw around in for a couple hours at a time. It may not be as robust as the PC and Stronger Console Builds, but Worlds Part One has still made a huge difference in the quality of the game. I seriously cannot wait to see what's in store for Part Two. I'm kind of hoping that the devs can instill a way to bring in Gas Planets and interact with Stars.

some guy commented a few days ago below another video: "The greatest redemption arc in gaming history". I think he is absolutely right. Never seen anything like this.
NMS is definitely good. As a legacy player and build master, the game keeps giving. Hello games have never given up and continue dishing out update after update. The Worlds update is more than cool.
I recently purchased it while on sale. I kept seeing the major update videos, and I figured it was time to give the game a shot. I'm about 6 hours in, and I'm enjoying it. I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what's available.
I bought the NMS soundtrack from 65DaysOfStatic before I got the game, it is phenomenal record, and I am so happy that the game eventually did it full justice.
Dealing with environmental effects was one of my favorite parts about NMS. I had a huge adventure on a hazard world using a submarine to scan for downed ships while dipping in and out of the water to avoid weather. I should've went to the hazard universe. I wish there was more bio ship types though. At least I get to pretend to be the X Universe's Xenon while in a sentinel ship though.

Yes there are bugs but it’s not game ending, everything is free, and the community is amazing. This Game is the Comeback Kid of Gaming.❤
I think there's a lot to be said about the iterative model of game development, instead of trying to do everything during development, instead you build something modest and then slowly add more things over time.
If you want the Normandy, use a save game editor to activate it! I don't consider it cheating because if you're away for a while, or just don't hear about an event, then you're "locked" out.
Ngl i hope the dev team for nms is feeling happy. Not just any happy though, that one true, concentrated, pure, happy, that you remember from when you were a kid and ever since youve been chasing that 2nd hit

Exactly. Try that trick in permadeath mode, and if you survive, you'll never try it again.

@@ziploc2000
That's right.
Because the last animal on planets is sometimes hard to find, I'm also thinking of giving up scanning, because the last animal has always taken the fun out of the game for me sooner or later.
you wanna know how good nms is? the initial trailer looks worse than the product we have, not just visually. the biggest thing from the trailer we lack is more diverse creature interactions
I feel like that's a key ingredient if you're creating a virtual alien ecosystem
@@jokatal oh I have a wishlist of things too add, that being one.
That being said seeing the initial announcement trailer in 2024, we really have come a long way, and they more than lived up to that initial trailer.
I remember the first time I heard of the game was from a machinima happy hour sketch, now I consider it a better space game than starfield
@@felixader I think we need slightly more complex npcs all around. I'm confident we'll get it eventually though. Who knows maybe that's what world's pt 2 is, making the world's feel more alive
@@alexello1189 no joke, i wish starfield have same system but with its rpg element, nms just what starfield supose to be.
Oh absolutely, they released it at a time where the technology was still only just available for the first time and still in its infancy.
Bought the game last week. Already 30 hours in!
the full spectrum swing of my level of respect for sean murray and his team is crazy, they really dug in their heels and restored the reputation for their product
developing a game is hard enough, now you have to work even harder to undo its bad rep and they've stuck with it for 8 fucking years, what a huge achievement
It really is an incredible come back story.
agreed
But there is no exploration. Planets dont have POI, planets contain only one biome, in space there is no interesting POI. Game dont have fraction and living universe like in X4, dont have interesting space like in Underspace. It is mediocre sandbox. Empyrion is much better
nope
lol best space exploration, you say? What a load of bollocks. After looking around one planet, maybe two, the rest of it is the damn same with a different coat of paint. Best exploration, my foot.
As much as I really dig the core game concept of No Mans Sky, I'm more excited to actually get my hands on and _play_ Light No Fire as a variation on that concept. It just seems like an inherently more refined version of it, pulling back from a whole universe to a single planet feels like it has more potential for immersion.
Sean released NMS and got " "threats, now he he send emojis and everyone loves him. I love it, the team all deserves the love.
Thank you.
I love it. It's not everyday that we can get news of "bad thing does its best and is now good, now becoming even better, people are happy".
It can't be understated just how much immersion good grass and flora add to this game. I'm finally hooked after 8 years of owning it.
Holy crap, the good feels in this report. Thanks, guys, for talking about this.
NMS is so much better now, and to think all of these major updates in the past 8 years have been free. Other companies would have made them DLCs.
There is another step. Overwhelming positive.
And we all know, its only a matter of time
100%
Using NMS as a test bed for the technology for the next game, while at the same time improving and expanding NMS and buying a lot of community good will, is a very smart strategy
Under the assumption that Light No Fire will be very successful, i can see myself bouncing back between these games whenever i get my "minecraft" fix for a given game theme.
I dunno if they have added multiple biome planets yet, but if they manage to do that that will be a massive win to have earth like planets with many different varied biomes
I don't think they will ever do that.
Seeing the greatness of NMS now makes me even more hype for Light No Fire. I hope that even during its launch and life cycle that NMS still gets those juicy updates
You should preorder
Got much respect for the team. Considering how dire it looked at launch and where they're at now shows you the determination they had to make something good.
You know, I haven't played since like 2020, and I think it's time to jump back in again. This looks incredible.

If this is what a small company can do, imagine what bethesda could do to elder scrolls 6 and bioware did to dreadwolf if they actually tried.
well, bethesda already tried... they made starfield and really drove the point home for a lot of people for why no mans sky is so great... the only reason to really look back and remember starfield at all is the ship building and customization and thats simply because you can't do it in no mans sky ... yet...

I'm not sure a big studio can do what Hello Games have done. They have so much overhead and so much pressure to release the "next big thing" no matter what shape it's in.
@@SlavTiger There’s a story? Now I’m piqued.
Now it's changed and improved so much it's an entirely different game and close to the hype, something I never expected
it is same game with same gameplay loop and same dead ingame universe

@@majdeath123 honestly, I really think that Sony's deal was what funded the comeback.
@Dave_Nosdivad not really, the sales of the game funded the comeback, if anything sony is what made them release the game in it's original state because big publishers want things done on a deadline, something that indie companies cannot always do, especially on such an ambitious project, with a team of 15 people if memory serves. No Man's Sky and Hello Games puts AAA to shame.
You gotta remember how it all began. The big criticism with AAA games is releasing an unfinished product and finishing it later.

Light no fire could be so good. I have always thought "why dont gaming companies use proc gen to simulate a world and then go in after to curate it?" And someone is finally doing it. What if Light No Fire is simply the name of the next update for NMS.
What if Light no Fire IS NMS?!
Hello Games deserves all the love and praise that they're getting and more!

I am so thankful this game didn't die on the vine before it reached its full flower, I've spent a fair bit of my time enjoying it.
i really hope they do things like removing di-hydrogen crystals, because these certain things that are exactly the same on every planet makes it feel like you haven't gone anywhere new
This came out when i was 14, and it gave me an escape from home life and the lack of school since i had to drop out. It took a little more imagination back then, but i havent ever felt like its a bad game, and its been amazing to grow with the game, even if i took a break for a few years when i went to college to catch up on my education.

I'm always surprised at what the No Man's Sky developers have done, actually keeping their promises and then going way beyond.
I’ve been playing this game the last month and there’s so many layers to the game it’s insane

I bought the NMS soundtrack from 65DaysOfStatic before I got the game, it is phenomenal record, and I am so happy that the game eventually did it full justice.
This is an amazing game. One that keeps on giving and my favorite is the Steam VR integration. It is truly amazing.

It’s fun to play, relaxing but challenging in parts , gorgeous to view. The future could be amazing…
